Midnights POV
I glared at the woman who sat on the other side of the table and flicked my eyes around the room that I was being held in. It was concrete with a heavily guarded wood and steel door, there was also two vents that were too small for anyone to fit through.
In other words, I was screwed.
Brain had told me that if I helped him he would offer me protection. Our group was the head of a cult called the Oracion Seis.
Over the years we have picked up quite a lot of fame, especially because when we first started we used to kidnap children and adults to be slaves or servants. However, by the time I joined the cult the majority of their slave joints had been taken over by a man named Makarov.
That man that is now the leader of the Fairy Tail New-Republic.
As for my interrogator, Erza Scarlet, she was once one of the people who were used as servants which just raised the factor of how much she despised me.
Honestly, I myself was a slave too.
Erza was also the one who lead the group that had been taking out the other members in my team. She worked with a main team that consisted of a newer recruit- Lucy Hearfilia, Jellal (who was also in our grasp years ago), and of course Erza Scarlet.
"Listen, Macbeth. All I ask for is that you work with me here. Things are gonna become bad for you if you choose to be a pain in my ass." Erza glared at me.
I smirked at her and let out a chuckle,
"You're going to kill me anyways, right? Why should I tell you anything."
"We want to refrain from execution. Every day you spend in here is an extra year that you'll spend in prison." Erza glared and for a second I faltered.
I was sure that they were going to execute me, Brain told me that all of my friends had been slaughtered without mercy.
"Tell me... what happened to the other members of my team, were they killed?" I asked her slowly.
"You aren't meant to be the one asking the questions... they're all alive. They're being held in prison." Erza grumbled.
I felt my heart flutter in my chest but also a sense a dread lurked in me. Brain... lied to me?
"Brain... he told me that he would protect me... that all of the other members of my team had been killed by you." I said softly, I didn't want to believe that it was true.
I didn't want to believe that Brain had lied to me... he was like a father to me. But... Brain has also promised us protection and now we've all been captured.
All of us except for Brain.
That's when I remembered something and Erza instantly picked up that I was hiding something. I decided to break and tell her.
I sighed, "Brain has two personalities, Brain and Zero. My team would keep Zero sealed away but now... now he's free..."
Erza frowned as she thought it over,
"Do you know where he is?"
I shook my head, "no, I don't."
Erza sighed in annoyance and stood up, cracking her neck and shoulders before heading towards the door.
"This is enough for today. Thank you." Erza said and actually turned back and smiled at me before leaving the cell.
That... that stupid girl.
I sensed Cobra leave with Erza and let out a sigh, I had to keep my thoughts focused while that damn snake was nearby. Their strategy was smart on some level but too basic.
The true plan was that we all got knocked out and locked up so that Zero could be unleashed because we realised that we needed him to be able to get into the base but... last time when we captured Natsu I realised why Brain loved him so much. He was a beautiful, pure ruby.
He needed to be rolled around, squeezed, checked up close to see if he was real and when you find a stone prettier than a ruby. You sell the old for the gold.
I want Natsu Dragneel so badly that it hurts me, it frustrates me that Brain could get to him before me!
I want to protect him yet break him down with my own hands! Destroy him over and over until he breaks and is beyond use!
I will get Natsu back! Even if I die trying!
And besides... this was all part of the plan...
Operation Free Dragneel is in motion.
Grays POV
I frowned at Natsu and stopped talking, he seemed completely out of it and lost in thought. I reached my hand across to him and lightly took his hand in mine, making him jump slightly and refocus on me.
"Is everything alright?" I asked him and Natsu's eyes instantly began to well up.
I pulled Natsu into a comforting hug, the stubble on his head prickled my cheek but I didn't mind. I rubbed his back while he quietly cried into my shoulder.
"I'm scared, Gray." Natsu sobbed slightly, his voice cracking and as did my heart.
"Is this because of Midnight?" I asked and Natsu nodded.
"You don't need to worry about Midnight, he won't even be able to lay a finger on you. Now I have the ability to protect you, even if it means taking my own life I am willing to do that for you." I whispered back to him reassuringly as he slowly began to calm down.
"W-Why would you do that?" Natsu asked, his voice still shaky.
"I would do that because I love you, Natsu Dragneel." I told him and pulled away so that I could see his face.
We stared into each others dark eyes, my eyes flickered down to the dark bags under his eyes and I felt a pang in my chest. Natsu's eyes were slightly red and puffy but he still looked beautiful to me.
I couldn't resist it, I closed my eyes as I leaned forward and gently pressed my lips to his. Natsu seemed slightly shocked and I pulled away after a few seconds, my cheeks burning a little while Natsu's cheeks glowed bright red.
We sat in silence for a little while longer, Natsu avoided my eyes because he was still embarrassed. I however, took in ever feature on his face yet I don't know why.
I felt like I needed to memorise every scar, every eyelash, every wrinkle, every detail that made Natsu, Natsu. Maybe it was so that no after what happened, I would never forget anything about him.
"Um... Gray...?" Natsu asked, looking sheepish.
I hummed 'yes' in reply.
"Could you... could you do that a-again?" He asked, his cheeks burning brighter than before.
A grin spread across my face and I pulled Natsu close to me so that he sat on my lap with his legs wrapped around my waist. Natsu seemed embarrassed of our position but didn't argue.
I found myself gazing into his eyes once again before pulling him close and pressing my lips to his. Natsu melted into the kiss and slowly began to kiss back to my relief.
I decided not to go too far and start making out with him too early but passion still filled our kiss. He still needs time and I'm willing to give him all the time he needs.
Eventually we broke away for air, panting lightly as we gazed into each others eyes lovingly.
Natsu has always felt like the sun, so close yet always unreachable and always out of my grasp. Even if I got close to him he would always end up burning me.
But now it's different, I know that I can reach him because he's right here in my arms. In my arms where I can keep him close to my chest and never let him leave me.
I am never going to let anyone take him away from me. Never in my life.
"Gray..." Natsu's voice broke me out of my thoughts.
"Hmm?" I hummed in reply.
"I want to learn fire dragon slayer magic again. It won't be from Igneel but I don't think that he'll mind." Natsu said to me, seeming a little embarrassed but my heart jumped up with joy.
I put my hands on his shoulder, excitement coursing through my veins. If Natsu learns fire dragon slaying again, he'll regain a whole part of him that was lost.
"I'm sure that Gajeel and Wendy will be able to help you revise once they get better. Right now they're all pretty shaken up from what I've heard." I reassured Natsu.
"What... happened down there?" He asked, frowning lightly.
"Well..." I paused, "things didn't go to plan and they saw some bad things."
Natsu nodded, toiling at his lap. I watched him raise his hand up to his head and scratch at his short hair.
"What's wrong?" I asked and he jumped, he must have been thinking.
"Oh, it's just itchy. That's all." He waved his hands around.
"Alright." I said and brought my hand up as a replacement for his own, rubbing the stubble lightly.
Natsu blushed, "w-what are you doing?"
"You're right. It is kind of itchy. Lie down here." I patted between my legs.
Natsu hesitated for a second but eventually turned around and sat in between my legs, leaning his head back onto my chest. I continued to rub his head and slowly his eyelids fell closed and he dozed off.
I chuckled and sat there, gazing out of the window as I continued to massage his head, carefully avoiding the wound. However, not even forty minutes later Natsu began to stir.
I looked back down at him with a frown when I realised that he was trembling and soon he began to whimper. Then all of a sudden Natsu let out a scream and started to flail around with tears rolling down his cheeks.
I instantly flipped him around as gently as I could and grabbed onto his shoulders before starting to shake him.
"Natsu!" I yelled desperately and after the third attempt his eyes shot open and stared into mine.
Tears flowed from his eyes and he continued to tremble and pant as he got a grip of his bearings.
"It's okay Natsu. Your okay." I tried to reassure him.
Natsu suddenly cried out and clutched his stomach as he double over in pain which alarmed me even further.
"I'll be back!" I said before getting up and running to the door, throwing it open along with the second one so that I was in the medical bay.
"We need a Doctor!" I yelled, catching the attention of most of the staff nearby and a few nurses instantly pushed past me and into Natsu's room,
Levy then came rushing out of Gajeels hospital room far down the hallway and ran towards me. She didn't say anything as I moved aside so that she could run past into Natsu's room.
They soon came back out with Natsu on a stretcher and I didn't even notice them bring it in. Natsu was clutching onto the sides of the stretcher as they carried him out and into an emergency room so that they could find out what the hell was wrong with him.
The door slammed close and I let out a shaky breath, running a hand through my hair as all of the past events sunk in. What happened? What's wrong with Natsu?
"Gray! What happened?!" A girls voice yelled and I was surprised to turn and see Wendy standing next to me with bandages still covering her body. Worry was written all over her face as she waited for my answer.
"I... I don't know. Everything was fine and then... t-then he started to feel intense stomach pains." I said in all honestly.
"Is... is he going to be alright?" She asked me, searching for reassurance about the matter.
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair again, "Yeah... I'm sure he'll be fine... He's Natsu Dragneel after all."
