Slowly and reluctantly, I uncover my face. I blink, close my eyes, and blink again.
Streaks of sunlight penetrate the window and blind me. I sit up, drag my feet off the bed, and rub my knuckles into my eyes. I stretch my arms above my head and yawn. I watch my legs dangle above the off-white polyester carpet. I walk into the bathroom connected to my room and do my morning hygiene. Nearly falling asleep in the shower.
After a long warm shower I get out and went to lotion my body, following that I dress in my blue jeans and put on my Tripple white Air Max Gym shoes, Kennedy had bought fo me and I put on my black hoodie and grabbed my bag, ready to go.
My mother is surprisingly in her room, ok for the first time in a long time. I got out my room and walked downstairs before I grabbed an apple.
I looked around the house before I sighed and shook my head and walking out. The heat of Chicago rubbed against my face.
Anyways I went on with my journey to school, walked pass err'one as if I wouldn't care if any thang happened to me. I felt like something bad was gonna happen, but I knew I had to stay positive.
Across the streets was a group of drug dealers. Staring over at me. God, I wondered why no one else was walking this morning. I walked so fast till I could see the school gates.
"Ohh thank God," I spoke to myself.
"Bad gyal," Kennedy came out of nowhere and hugging me all happy and shit.
"Girl wat's all dis fo'." I said as she stood firm next to me.
"Gyyyyyaaaaalll." She giggled blushing before the girls walked down over to us. "Yu dun know."
"I'll kno' if yhu let me," I said
"Hey, whore," Trin called out before placing her elbow on top of my arm. "Neddy Neddy Neddy. Wah did Danny do hmm."
She giggled so loud. "Him called lass night."
"Nawww," I wrapped my hands around her arm as we walked into the school.
Just as I remembered.
Yesterday I had something I needed to hand to my History teacher, I realised as soon I was gonna leave to go home.
"Oh shit guys gotta go," I said walking back towards the school.
"Tyty where yhu goin'?"
"See yhu guys at break," I said before running into school.

"Baby girl, focused on school lately," Trin shook her head pulling out a cigarette.
Did I forget she smokes? Hell yeah she does.
"Mmm let her do her thang," I said once Malcolm and his squad pulled up.
They're always coming outta nowhere when she disappears.
"Hey, baby how yhu goin'?" He pulled me into a hug.
Danny and Neddy hugged once a "muah" came from Deejays direction. Did they just kiss? No way.
"Ohh," Trinity surprisingly shockingly gasped. "Lexis! Yhu ain't tell us 'bout....dis ." She said once we all laughed together.
I studied all of them, and it came to me that someone was missing. Well, It didn't really feel like it but I felt like it...

"Babe where's da other guy?" I questioned looking up to Mal.
"Tay?" Malcolm said. "TayK."4
"Yeah."
"His at da principal's office, renewing his schedule," He said as I nodded. "If yhu gon' ask why, it's caus' he'on like his other classes, so he wanna be wit' his bros." He said once I nodded and looked over to his friend. Danny.
"Danny, why ain't yhu witcho friend?" I asked.
"Caus' I wanted ta' see her." He planted a kiss on her head before I lifted my eyebrows chuckling with my girls.
"Where's loyalty?" Babe asked.
"She went ta' do somethang, in her history class," I said. "I think."
"Y'all got ah friend named Loyalty?" Danny questioned. "She blessed ta' have dat."
"Royalty," I giggled. "Dat's wah Mal calls her...caus apparently she loyal."
"Yhu jealous huh." Mal laughed. "Yhu jus' mad her nickname Loyalty."
"Boy please." We laughed along walking into the school.

I walked out the principal office after taking my schedule.
It's so damn crowded in this motherfucker.
And I stay catching that same group of guys walking past and death glaring me and shit. I see these niggas err'day of being here, and err'where.
I couldn't help it but walk to their pace.
That's right I was right behind them, I followed them noticing the fact that they headed outside. Through a door, I've never seen anybody use.
I stood by that door watching everything they were doing after creaking the door open. It came to a point I saw one of them pull out a gun.

"Tay," My name was called out before I turned to face Danny. "Wat is yhu starin' at out there." He said taking a peek and turning back to me.
"Nuffin' man," I said. "watchyhu doin' ov'here, watchyhu have right now?"
"We have English together, I guess." He said as before remembered I changed my schedule, to every class he's in. "Yhu sure yhu straight bro."
"Yeah man, I'm straight," I said as we made our way to our class.

It's that time of the day, that annoying voice of Iva talks. I think she has issues with keeping her voice on the low.
"Have yhu seen 'em, two new boys." She said chewing on her gum.
"TayK and wat's da other guy?" Tanya, her bestfriend said..
"Danny." She answered it. "But TayK is ah doll." She melted down her chair.
"Danny is wit' dat Jamaican trick." Her friend said as I turned to her, just as it came to me. Kennedy is the only Jama- holup.
"Excuse me," I said turning to them.
"Wat is it," Iva responded.
"Did I jus hear yhu call ma girl a trick," I said as she stood up and walked to my table.
"Yeah. I can say it again." She said as I scoffed before standing up 6 metres from her. "Trick."
"Yhu wait one day imma fuck yhu up." I said getting up all in her face.
"Yhu can try." Tanya said.
"Royalty, A word outside please." My history teacher Mrs Curtain said before I rolled my eyes, stacked my shit, grabbed my bag and walked out. Lil fucking bitch
"Royalty. What was all dat about?" She said
"Miss she stay talkin' shit 'bout ma friends," I crossed my arm.
"And so what." She said. "You should've just left it."
Did she just tell me?
"Miss, yhu telling me ta'
leave it? If this was yo' daughter being called ah trick, tell me yhu doin' nothin'." I said
"Well they're students I can't do nothing." She said
"Well, I'm a student. And I can do somethin." I said. "Now yhu can go back in there and teach yo' students some respect. And if yhu was like 'em in yo' childhood, yhu can teach yo'-self some too."

I walked away before she could even finish calling out my name.
