Chapter Eighteen: Getting Caught Cold-Breathed
Max Thunderman POV
"Where do you guys think Cat is?" Billy asked Phoebe, Nora, and I.
"I don't know," Phoebe answered, "But she has been gone for an awfully long time."
"Do you think something happened to her?" Nora asked.
"Probably, if she's been gone for this long," I replied.
Then all of the sudden, Phoebe stopped in her tracks.
"What is it, Phoebe?" Billy, Nora, and I asked.
"O-oh my gosh," Phoebe stammered, "W-what if it was that Nora girl?"
Nora cocked her head. "What are you talking about, Phoebe? I'm Nora!"
"No, no. Another Nora!"
"Another Nora?" We asked Phoebe, confused.
"Yes! Nora Dershlit!" Phoebe exclaimed, "Cat brought her up and when she did, it seemed like Sam got a little nervous and didn't want us to know about her. Maybe Nora Dershlit took Cat!"
I laughed. "That's ridiculous, Phoebe."
"It's not going to be ridiculous, once I prove to you that I'm right."
I laughed again. "Why would you even want to be right, Phoebe?"
Phoebe thought for a moment about what she said. "I don't... I just... Aagh! Just keep on walking!"
"Where are we?" Billy asked us.
We were about ten blocks away from Sam and Cat's apartment complex in the middle of who knows where.
"I don't know, just keep on looking," I told Billy.
"Oh my gosh!" Nora gasped, "How dare someone steal my beautiful name!"
We all turned around to see why Nora had gasped. We all gasped. Phoebe might actually be right! Standing right in front of us, there was a poster taped to a telephone pole. There was just enough light from the street light right on the corner of the street to see it.
The poster read, "WANTED: NORA DERSHLIT REWARD: $20,000," in huge black print.
On the poster, it had this girl's face on it. She was a teenager with brown hair and brown eyes. Also, her whole entire face looked really psychotic.
"See, what did I tell you Max?" Phoebe gloated.
"Pfffttt! That means nothing!" I argued, "That doesn't mean that she kidnapped Cat!"
"That is true, but I have strange feeling that she took her."
I gulped. "Me too. I just don't like it when you're right."
"Why do you even care if I'm right or not? Finding Cat is way more important than that!"
"Cat and that!" Billy laughed, "That rhymes!"
"Not now, Billy!" Phoebe, Nora, and I shouted.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. Let's just keep on looking," I told everybody.
"Thank you!" Phoebe exclaimed sarcastically.
A few seconds later, I felt this tingly feeling. My eyes turned blue and the shape of a lightning bolt appeared in the center of my pupils.
"Ph-Phoebe?" I stammered.
"Y-you f-feel it t-too?" Phoebe stammered. I nodded.
"What are you guys talking about?" Nora asked us, "What's going on?"
"Our thundersense is going off," I whispered.
"Uh-oh, that's not good," Billy stated.
Then all of the sudden, we heard Cat say, "Phoebe, Max, Nora, Billy, come over here!" We all jumped backwards out of surprise.
"It's Cat!" Billy shouted with joy, as he started to head towards in the direction where Cat's voice.
Phoebe grabbed Billy's arm and pulled him back.
"Billy, don't," she whispered.
"But why?" Billy argued, "Weren't we looking for Cat?"
When was this kid going to realize that we were in danger? Then all of the sudden, my thundersense started to go off at an alarming rate. I looked over at Phoebe. Her's was going off too. In a split second, Phoebe and I both turned around and froze these people who were behind us.
"Woah!" Billy and Nora gasped, amazed.
We each took a minute to look at the people that Phoebe and I froze. There was four of them. Three of them were tall men and one of them was a woman in her early twenties. They each had a burlap sack in their hands, and according to the positions that they were in, it looked like they were trying to stuff us in them. We then heard a rustling noise in the bushes, then we heard something drop in them. Phoebe, Billy, and I quickly ran over to see what was in the bushes to see what was in them. But by the time we got there, all that we could find was somebody's Pear Phone that they must of accidentally dropped.
"Oh my gosh, I think that someone saw us use our powers!" Phoebe told us.
"Shhh, be quiet, Phoebe!" I shushed her, "You don't want the rest of the world to know too!"
"W-who's phone is it?" Billy stammered.
"I-I don't know," I answered, as I picked up the phone. I gasped.
"What is it?" Nora asked, "Did you find out who's phone it is?"
"No, but look!" I told everybody, as I showed them what was on the screen of the phone.
"Hey, isn't that the same recording app that we used to convince cousin Blobbin to help us that one day?"
"Uh-huh," I replied nervously.
"Do you think that they lured Cat into kidnapping her with this app?"
"I don't know, you tell me," I answered, as I tapped the play button to one of the recordings on the app.
"Cat, come over here!" It said in Taylor's voice.
We all gasped.
"Hey, what's this?" Nora asked, as she tapped the play button to another recording.
"Frankie, Taylor, come over here!" It said in Phoebe's voice.
We all gasped again.
"They're gonna kidnap Frankie and Taylor too!" Billy announced.
"It's a good thing that we froze them then," Phoebe stated.
"But what if they already kidnapped them and they have them hidden somewhere?" Nora asked.
"Oh my gosh!" We all gasped.
"Max, check the phone's contacts and see who owns the phone!" Phoebe ordered.
"Ok,ok!" I agreed, feeling rushed, "I will!"
I gasped.
"Ph-Phoebe, I-I think that you were right," I stammered.
"Why, does Nora Dershlit own the phone?" She asked me.
"No. Some girl named Linda Marty does, but look at one of the names that she has in her contacts!" I told everybody, as I showed them the phone.
"Nora Dershlit!" Billy, Nora, and Phoebe gasped.
"How dare she steal my name!" Nora shouted, angry.
I felt like laughing, but I knew that it wasn't the right time because there was some deranged lunatics who have Cat and possibly Frankie and Taylor.
"Do you think that Linda saw you guys use your freeze breath?" Billy asked.
"She must if had to, Billy!" Nora replied, "Why do you think that she ran away so fast?"
"I sure hope that she doesn't tell anyone about what she saw."
"Me too, but she's probably going too. She's evil!"
"Yeah," Phoebe and I sighed.
"So anyways, should we unfreeze those people over there?" I asked, as I pointed to the frozen figures.
"No, just leave them like that," Phoebe told me, "If we don't unfreeze them, we'll slow down their plans. And besides, it's only temporary anyway."
"But what if someone sees them?"
Phoebe thought for a moment. "Quick, help me hide them in those bushes!"
"Ok," we all agreed.
The people were extremely heavy, but with all four of us, we were able to lift them up and hide them in the bushes.
"What should we do with Linda's phone?" Billy asked us, once we hid all of the frozen bodies.
"We should keep it," I told Billy, "It's the only evidence that we have that says that Nora Dershlit is trying to kidnap us."
"Yeah," Phoebe and Nora agreed.
"We have to go get Sam!" Phoebe told us, "We have to tell her about what happened. Just say that we scared them off somehow, instead of saying that Max and I froze them, ok?"
"Ok," we all agreed as we started to run back to Sam and Cat's apartment.
