The next evening arrives and Lindsey along with his mom and dad are walking across the street to the Nicks residence. Morris allowed at Lindsey's request for his brothers to be excused from the event. Lindsey's thinking was that he'd be nervous enough without his brothers wise cracks and generally making fun of him.

The three make their way to the front door and before Morris can knock Barbara answers the door. She invites them all in and the introductions are made by Stevie who has been waiting just inside. Barbara says to them all

"Lets go out back, Jess has got steaks going on the grill."

"I'll get us all something to drink."

They all follow Barbara through the house and out the sliding glass door in the kitchen leading to the back deck. There is a full sized swimming pool with changing rooms on the far left of the pool deck. In front of the pool sits a couple of tables with umbrellas and chairs surrounding them. There is a bar and Jess's grill on the right hand side along with the steps that lead down to the yard. Barbara introduces Morris and Ruth to Jess who is standing at the grill flipping steaks. Barbara goes to the bar and prepares cocktails for the adults. There is a cooler sitting next to the bar with bottles of soda for kids.

Stevie's brother Chris is standing by the steps with a couple baseball gloves in his hands. He says to Lindsey

"Hey Lindsey, my sister says your the best baseball player around these parts!"

"You wanna play catch with me?"

Lindsey looks over at Stevie and sees her smiling at him and nodding. Lindsey gets it, he turns and says to Chris

"Sure why not?"

"Hand me one is those gloves and that baseball you got and let's have a toss."

Chris gives Lindsey a glove and his baseball and leads Lindsey down the steps to the backyard. The two begin playing catch and Chris says to Lindsey

"My sister says your her boyfriend, does that mean you get to kiss her and stuff?"

Lindsey throws the ball to Chris and replies

"Well I suppose boyfriends and girlfriends kiss sometimes."

"There is a lot of hand holding and hugs too."

Chris fires the baseball back to Lindsey and says

"Yuck why you want to kiss my sister?"

Lindsey chuckles and throws the ball back and says

"You'll understand in a couple of years."

Chris shakes his head and replies

"I just want to be a superstar like you and an ace ball player!'

Lindsey responds

"Why do you think I'm a star?"

Chris backs up a couple steps and throws the ball back to Lindsey. He then says

"My sister has been talking about you all day!"

"First to my mom and dad, then to her friends on the phone."

"She says your her dreamy knight in shining armor who defended her honor from boys who wanted to jump her."

Lindsey replies

"Wow she really talks about me like that?"

Chris fires the ball back to Lindsey and says

"Duh she talks about you all the time!"

Stevie suddenly appears bounding down the steps twords them. Lindsey can't help but smile seeing her coming closer to him, her wearing a red and white sleeveless dress, hair braided back behind her head. Stevie's smile is contagious, Lindsey finding himself smiling right back at her as she says

"Daddy says it's time for us to all eat."

Stevie takes Lindsey's hand and Chris follows them back up to the pool deck. Lindsey notices the adults have pushed the tables together so they can all eat together. They all take their seats, families on opposite sides and begin to eat. Jess asks Lindsey several questions about the fight he got into with Roy and the Spruce Avenue boys. Lindsey tells him about the rivalry between neighborhoods. Morris then mentions to Jess that Jim Jimmerson the owner of the drugstore has talked to Officer Martin at the police station and he will be following up with the parents of the offending boys.

Jess is mostly satisfied with what he hears but adds

"Would it not be better if Teedee wasn't playing baseball with the boys?"

"Maybe a different activity would be a good idea."

Stevie responds quickly

"Daddy you know I love baseball and I'm as good as any of the other guys!"

"Plus Mr Jimmerson has sponsored us to get into the city tournament."

Ruth replies to all of them

"Maybe some of the neighborhood parents should attend these tournament games to make sure the kids don't get into any trouble."

Barbara adds

"Why that's a fine idea, Jess maybe you and Morris can find a manager for the team as well."

Morris nods and says

"I'm sure Jim Jimmerson would volunteer, he loves baseball and all the kids like him."

"What do you two think of that?"

Lindsey and Stevie both give their assent. Lindsey agrees all the neighborhood kids love Mr Jimmerson and those Spruce Avenue punks will think twice about any trouble with him around.

The two families continue their meal Lindsey notices the parents all seem to get along just fine. He thinks this is the right time to bring up the talent show. He speaks up and says

"I forgot to tell you all, while Stevie and I where at Jimmersons we where invited to perform at the Knights of Columbus talent show."

Barbara replies

"Oh my father Aaron was always taking Teedee to his shows when she was little, they where quite a duo!"

"What kind of act do you two have in mind?"

Stevie responds eagerly

"Lindsey and I are want to sing a duet as he plays guitar!"

Lindsey adds for good measure

"If you all let us sign up, here is the business card they gave me."

Morris takes the card and reads it. He says

"Ruth and I know Frank and Helen Smith, they own the insurance company downtown and are Nights of Columbus members."

The parents chat a bit more but ultimately agree to let Stevie and Lindsey enter the contest. Stevie says to her parents

"Can Lindsey and I go upstairs to my room and listen to some records?"

"We need to pick out a song to practice for the show!"

Jess replies

"Okay Teedee but you make sure your door stays open."

Stevie rolls her eyes and says

"Yes daddy."

Stevie grabs Lindsey's hand and practicality drags Lindsey out of his chair and leads him up to her room. When they get there Stevie immediately kicks off her shoes and pulls a handful of records off the shelf for her and Lindsey to look through. Stevie comes across a new one by The Kinks. She puts it on her record player and You Really Got Me starts. Stevie says to Lindsey in an excited manner

"Oh Linds this might be the one!"

Stevie starts to sing and dance around her room, Lindsey takes a moment listening to her voice.

Boy you really got me going
You got me so
I don't know what I'm doing now
Yeah you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night

Lindsey interrupts Stevie saying

"Steph let me runs across the street and get my guitar, I want to play along!"

Stevie pauses the record and says

"Okay but hurry and you can't play loud or mom and dad will have a fit!"

Lindsey nods and runs downstairs and out the front door as quietly as he can. He hurries over to his house and gets his guitar and amp and runs back the way he came. He plugs his amp in and is ready to play when Stevie starts the song again. She sings the first verse as Lindsey finds the right cords. He's got it as Stevie starts the second verse

Yeah you really got me now
You got me so
I don't know what I'm doing
Oh yeah you really got me now
You really got me

Stevie dances around the room while Lindsey gets into the riff and harmonizes with Stevie

You really got me
You really got me
You really got me

Stevie continues singing the melody while Lindsey plays

See don't ever set me free
I always want to be by your side
Boy you really got me so
I can't sleep at night

Yeah you really got me now
You got me so I don't know what
I'm doing now
Oh Yeah you really got me now
You got so I can't sleep at night

Lindsey joins Stevie in the chorus

You really got me
You really got me
You really got me

The song finishes and Lindsey unplugs his guitar. As soon as he turns around Stevie jumps right into his arms while wrapping her feet around his waist. She says to a startled Lindsey

"That was far out Linds!"

"We sound great I knew we'd make beautiful music together!"

Before Lindsey even knows what hit him, Stevie smashes her lips to his. He puts his hands under her behind to stabilize them both so he doesn't lose his balance and drop her. Stevie is attacking Lindsey's face peppering him with kisses.

Not really knowing what to do next, Lindsey backs his way over to Stevie's bed as she continues to shower him with kisses. He manages to sit down on the bed as Stevie knocks him over and lays on top of him. Lindsey grabs Stevie's head with both of his hands holding her still slowing the pace and kisses her softly. He hears Stevie moan as he enters her mouth with his tounge. She intertwines her tounge with his as their kiss intensifies. Lindsey has no idea what he's doing but he knows he's liking it a lot!

They both suddenly hear someone clear their throat and Stevie rolls off Lindsey as quickly as she can. The two sit up abruptly looking up finding Chris standing in Stevie's doorway. He says to Stevie

"Mom sent me up here to get you two, the Buckinghams are ready to go home."

Lindsey says to Stevie

"I'll come over after dark and get my guitar, watch out your window for me."

Stevie nods her head in agreement as she puts her shoes on. Chris asks Lindsey

"You two sure where doin a lot of kissing, is she going to have a baby now?"

Stevie's face turns a deep shade of red as she says in a low voice to Chris

"You had better shut up Chris!"

Lindsey shakes his head laughing and puts his arm around Chris leading him away from Stevie. As they reach the steps he says to Chris

"That isn't how girls get pregnant and don't go saying that to Stevie anymore."

"I'll tell you how it all works sometime okay?"

Chris accepts Lindsey's interpretation of the events and wisely let's the subject go. Stevie joins the two still glaring at Chris as they all go back downstairs and join the others. They families say their goodbyes and Lindsey and his parents head back across the street. Ruth says to Lindsey

"Stephanie seems like a wonderful young lady and I really enjoyed our dinner with the Nicks' family."

"We will have to invite them all over to our house for a get together soon right Morris?"

Lindsey's dad replies

"Sure dear I wouldn't mind talking to Jess more about his business."

They arrive back home and the family goes about its usual nighlty routine. After Lindsey thinks his parents have gone to bed he opens his bedroom window and sees Stevie's light still on in hers. He waits a couple moments and then sees her looking out her window at him. He waves at her and then quietly sneaks down the steps and out the kitchen door. He makes his way across the street and finds Stevie waiting by her garage for him.

Lindsey approaches Stevie and notices her standing in the moonlight in front of her house. She is dressed only in a tank top and shorts. Her long blonde hair flowing back behind her from the cool night breeze. The stars light up the sky as a backdrop to the lovely image on front of him. She has his guitar and amp sitting by the garage. She puts a finger up by her mouth and then beckons Lindsey over.

He comes up and stands right in front of her, noticing that in her bare feet the top of her head only reaches the tops of his shoulders. As if she can read his mind she stands on her tip toes and reaches her arms to him. He reaches for her in kind, softly embracing her slowly. To Lindsey, this moment in time feels like a movie on a screen as if he can see both he and Stevie from afar. He can feel his skin go to goosebumps from the electricity of her touch.

Lindsey bends his head and touches his lips softly to Stevie's. They remain this way for a few moments until Stevie breaks the kiss and then whispers in Lindsey's ear.

"I have to go before my parents find us, they are still awake."

"I'll wait here for you here in the morning after breakfast."

Lindsey reluctantly let's Stevie go and whispers to her

"I'll love you Angel, I'll be dreaming of you tonight."

Stevie smiles and responds by quickly rising up and kissing Lindsey again before retreating back. Lindsey watches her walk back to the side door by the garage. Stevie turns before entering the house and looks right at Lindsey and mouths

I love you too

She dissappears into her home as Lindsey grins from ear to ear carrying his musical equitment back home. He doesn't fully understand what's happening to him but a certain neighbor girl has turned his world upside down. And he loves it as much as he loves her.

What neither Stevie or Lindsey know is that a certain someone has been watching every move they make and has definitely witnessed the young lovers sweet moment under the stars.

Yeah you really got me now
You got me so I don't know what
I'm doing now

You really got me

I won't lie to you all, I was really hearing David Lee Roth and Van Halen do their cover of this song! Haha thank you for reading.
