(Y/N) walked leisurely with her two friends to her next class. Ayako was chatting up a storm, but that was no surprise.

The trio walked into the class and was welcomed by the teacher, a middle-aged woman with tan skin and dark brown hair. She was wearing a maroon shirt with lightly faded black pants.
"Hello! Have a seat anywhere you like!" The teacher's greeting was very enthusiastic, giving a genuine smile as she seemed to radiate happiness.

The room was very large, probably to accommodate all the instruments and other musical necessities kept there. The class must have been smaller than average as there were few seats. The seats had a small surface that one could use to write on, and they were set up in a semicircle with all the instruments set up in the middle or in the back.

They walked up to three empty chairs and set their stuff down.

"Wow, there sure is a lot of stuff in here," Masato commented, looking around the classroom. "Wait, why did we take this class again?"

(Y/N) laughed, and Ayako just gave a bewildered look

"Do you really not remember?" Ayako asked, obviously confused.

Masato just gave her an equally befuddled expression. "Uh, no."

(Y/N) chuckled again, finally reminding him, "Dude, this was your idea. You were like, 'Guys I really don't want to be alone next year, and this is the only class we're guaranteed to have together!'" The girl mimicked, over-exaggerating just a little.

"Yeah, whatever." Masato's tone was unenthusiastic, but he gave a small smile.

The bell rang, and the teacher walked to the center of the classroom with a ginormous smile etched on her face.

"Hello, welcome to music theory. I hope you all had a wonderful break!" The teacher started, and (Y/N) thought that actually seemed really nice. "My name is Mrs. Shawnee. I know it's a bit strange but it's not too hard to pronounce, fortunately. Okay, and for right now I'm just going to start off with roll."

Mrs. Shawnee went through all the names fairly quickly since it wasn't a large class and went on to talk about what they would be doing for the rest of the year and some other start-of-the-year stuff.

If (Y/N) was really being honest, she wasn't paying any attention at all. From what she had heard this was a super easy class, and she could always just ask Ayako if there was anything she missed.

"Now who here has had any musical experience before? This could be learning an instrument, taking a previous class, or even singing."

Almost everyone in the class raised their hands, save one or two people. (Y/N) looked at Ayako to see her hand proudly raised in the air. (Y/N) had learned early on in their friendship that Ayako was obsessed with music. Ayako spent almost everyday practicing, and she could often be found listening to music when she could. It was a privilege to hear her play piano, and her singing voice was angelic. Although Ayako was normally a bubbly and cheerful person, she was always surreal and passionate when it came to music. (Y/N) felt a little guilty because she knew her friend could've taken the advanced class if it weren't for Masato and her.

The teacher continued on with a presentation on what the students would be doing for the rest of the year. (Y/N) did pay a bit of attention to this, but she was reassured that it was nothing too difficult.

Masato, on the other hand, had a slightly worried look on his face. The boy knew nothing about music, and (Y/N) had a feeling that he would be begging for Ayako's help in about a week, if not even today.

After a little bit, Mrs. Shawnee finished up her presentation. She handed out a few more papers and whatnot, but since the class was almost over, there wasn't much left to do.

"Now, you all can just stay seated until the bell rings."

Mrs. Shawnee then pulled out a binder from seemingly nowhere and started to write several things down.

(Y/N) didn't say anything, but she could see her friends turn towards her in anticipation of a conversation.

"What did you guys do over the summer?" Masato started off the discussion with enthusiasm.

"I actually had a ton of fun this summer! First, my family and I went and hiked Kilimanjaro, and then we went on a safari excursion. We saw lions, cheetahs, and a ton of other stuff. Then we went to Russia for my father's business trip; it was a bit cold there but fun, too." Ayako was clearly happy with her vacation, and she wore a large smile on her cheerful face.

Masato rolled his eyes and (Y/N) giggled at their friend.

"Wow, that's all you did, Ayako?" (Y/N) sarcastically retorted, followed by another giggle.

Ayako pouted, and Masato gave a small chuckle.

"Yeah, Ayako, way to understate what you did."

Masato had a very visible smile playing on his lips.

"Whatever. Let's just get back what you guys did over the summer." Ayako said with a very audible huff.

"Well, I just mostly stayed at home. But I did go to the beach and an amusement park, so the summer wasn't all bad. I also did a lot of volunteering, but that wasn't too much work at least." Masato shrugged, decidedly to play his summer off cool.

"And you, (Y/N)?" Ayako looked over at the girl in interest, almost completely ignoring Masato.

"Well, I got to go to-"

(Y/N) was cut off by the bell, and the three friends quickly packed up their things. They all stood up, and (Y/N) brushed a strand of hair out of her face.

"Well, I'd love to explain my summer in detail, but unfortunately my English class is on the opposite side of the school, and I'd rather not be late on the first day. Plus I wouldn't dream of keeping Itsumi waiting." (Y/N) said with a goofy smile, and she quickly walked out of the classroom.

Ayako and Masato sighed in unison.
