Chapter 6

Ardens P.O.V

I couldn’t help but feel the back of my neck as I waited for Lia to come out of her house. It tingled as I touched it. I had forgotten earlier to look at it, but now I wanted to know what in the hell it was.

Being a vampire didn’t make me invincible, but it did make me immune to most things. This is the first time that my skin has ever itched or been inflamed. I knew it most of not have been such a big of a deal. Considering how my body didn’t ‘fix’ it while I slept, but it made me wonder on why it was there.

Feeling a pair of eyes on me, I look up at Lia’s mom as she stands in the doorway of the house. Watching me she lifts up her hand as an invitation for me to come in. I stare at the open doorway as she walks away leaving it for me to come in.

Shrugging I get out of my car and go inside. I can hear Lia still sleeping in her room and her parents talking in the kitchen. Walking in I sit down next to Lia’s dad.

Feeling uncomfortable, I stare at the counter top. I listen to Lia’s even breathing as she continues to slumber, oblivious to my presence in her house. A smirk overcomes my features as I hear her mumble my name in her sleep.

I wonder what memories she’s going over. Looking up I notice her mom and dad’s smiles.

“Here’s some food Arden.” Lia’s mom says as she puts a plate full of food in front of me. Inclining my head to her in a nod, I start to eat.

Finishing my food, I hear the clatter of Lia coming down the stairs. Stiffening I feel her gaze as she asses me from behind.

“What are you doing here?” Knowing the question is for me I turn around to stare at her.

“I’m your ride to school.” I tell her with a smirk. Her eyes widen at the statement.

“No you’re not, I have a car.” She huffs at me.

“Your car is at school.” I tell her and then turn back around. I let out a chuckle at the little foot stomp that I just heard her do.

Her parents laugh at the silence we gave each other as she reluctantly sat next to me. My nose twitches at the smell that comes from the cup her mom puts in front of her. Blood. Out of the corner of my eye, I watch as Lia makes a disgusted look as she drinks the stuff. Now isn’t that interesting.

“Do you need some Arden?” Lia’s mom asks with a concerned face.

“No, I already had mine for the day.” I tell her with a smile. Smiling back at me, she takes a sip from her own cup.

“You two better leave or you’ll be late for school.” Lia’s dad says as he looks at the clock.

Getting up I incline my head to her parents to show my thanks. Smiling at me, they direct their attention back to each other. Walking towards my car, I can hear Lia grumble about sharing a car ride with me. She didn’t complain about it yesterday.

As I’m throwing my keys in the air for the second time I hear Lia gasp in shock. Turning around lightning quick, I check to make sure she is okay. The keys make a loud clatter when they hit the pavement as I stare at her. I clutch her arms in my hands as I look for danger.

“What’s on your neck?” She gasped out. Bringing my hand up to the back of my neck, I feel that it’s more agitated.

“I don’t know.” I tell her. I watch as she gets behind me and touches my neck with her hands. The flow of electricity starts again as her breath fans on my neck. I can’t help but shiver at the new feeling, it felt amazingly good.

“What does it look like?” I ask in a whisper.

“It's an infinity sign, you know a sideways eight” She says. I try to think of a sideways eight on the back of my neck, but I can only think of her as she touches the back of my neck.

“Kind of.” I tell her.

“Well that's what it is.” She says as she traces it.

“Are you telling me that I have an infinuty sign on my neck?” I ask her with obvious humor in my voice.

“Yes, I’ll draw a picture for you if you’d like.” She tells me as she drops her hand from my neck. I watch as she runs to the other side of my car and gets in. Okay I guess we are leaving now. Honestly I don’t know why I ever try to understand women, they always confuse me. Shaking my head I get in my car and start it up.

Philias P.O.V

I stare down at my hand that had just touched Ardens neck. What was wrong with me? Why did I do that? Blushing I peek over at Arden as he drives me to school.

Why did he have to show up this morning? I could have gotten a ride from my mom. Sighing I think of the thing on the back of his neck.

It looked like a tattoo, but he said he didn’t know what it was. Therefore, he couldn’t have gotten it done. Besides vampires can’t get regular tattoos, we had to go to a special artist that had special ink. A regular tattoo would just go away once we slept; our bodies got rid of them.

Going through my backpack, I grab a piece of paper and draw on it with my pen. He said he wanted to know what it looked like. Holding it out to him as he parked the car in the school parking lot, I watched as he analyzed the drawing.

“That’s on my neck?” He asks in disbelief. I nod my head as I jump out of the car leaving him to ponder it.

Feeling the glares directed at me I lower my head avoiding eye contact from everyone. Great, just great, I didn’t want to get noticed and here I am coming to school with Arden.

All of the way until lunch I could hear the whispers from everyone around me on why I rode with him to school. The only thing that helped me ignore them was the fact that I could drive myself home.

Grabbing my lunch, I walked towards the tree I had sat under yesterday. A slight blush overcomes my face at the thought of what had happened under that exact tree.

Leaning on the tree, I ate my lunch in silence. I hope he didn’t come again today. Please don’t come again is all that went through my mind while I devoured the meatloaf on my plate. I think it was meatloaf. I’ll have to ask my mom to make my food tomorrow.

Scooting from the tree, I lay down on the grass and stared at the leaves above me swirling in the wind. Closing my eyes, I listen to everyone in the schoolyard around me. Hearing a crunch from someone approaching me, I look up into the eyes of Arden as he stands over me.

“Thinking about me?” He asks with a smirk. Rolling my eyes at him, I watch as he lies down next to me.

“What brings you here Arden?” I ask as I stare at the sky. Hearing him move I look over at him as he is removing a stick from under his back.

“Besides being stabbed by a stick I was coming to ask you a question.”

“What would that be?” I wonder at the question he will ask, but it won’t hurt me to hear this said question.

“Why do you scowl when you drink blood?” He asks. Turning over on my side, I stare at him. Itching to touch his hair as it rustles in the wind I clutch my shirt with my hands. What is wrong with me lately, I shouldn’t even be here talking to him or laying in the grass next to him.

“How’s your neck?” I ask dodging the question. His face lights up with a smile at my question. Touching the back of his neck, he turns on his side to face me.

“Itching like hell.” He tells me as he continues to rub the back of his neck with obvious frustration on his face. I stare at him with wonder. What attracts me to this person? It scares me. I wish I could just get up and run away again, but his eyes held mine in a trance.

The sound of a bell brings me out of my trance. Standing up in a fluid motion that’s faster than human pace. I stare down at him as he directs an amused smile in my direction. Feeling the emotions of everyone around me, I can tell that no one saw that sudden mishap.

“I’ll be seeing you around Lia.” He tells me as I walk away. Reaching the building I look back to see him still lying in the same place. Smiling I walk into school once again to finally get the chance to finish my classes.

The next two classes consisted of me thinking of Arden and trying not to, but the more you try not to think of someone the more you do.

Walking into the gym, I stop in my tracks at the sight of Arden as he walks out of the boy’s locker room in his gym clothes. Oh great, the one class we have together had to be gym.

He smirks at the sight of me. A scowl takes over my face as he tips an imaginary hat towards me. Looking away from him, I gaze across the room to find the gym teacher. Finding him, I walk up to him.

“You must be Miss Adair?” He asks without looking at me. Looking down at my shoes, I nod.

“It’s nice to see you Miss Adair, your gym clothes are in your locker in the locker room.” Staring up at him, I nod as he looks at me. Handing me the piece of paper with my locker number and combination number I walk away to get dressed.

Chatter is heard in the locker room as I open the door. Everyone stops and looks at me the when I go to my locker. Looking more calm on the outside then I felt on the inside I quickly changed into the outfit.

Hearing the last person leave the room I stare at my reflection in the mirror. Taking my hair down from its ponytail I stare as it tumbles down my back. Fingering the tresses, I think of cutting it. I never do wear it down. What’s the point of having hair this long when I don’t even like it.

Knowing it’s about time for class to start I hurriedly pull it up into a messy ponytail as I rush out of the room.

“Alright class today we will be playing dodge ball.” The teacher says as I sit on the bleachers with everyone else. A grumble of unhappiness comes from everyone at the statement. I smile at the grumbles as I can actually feel that everyone is happy about the game.

Glancing over I see Arden with a smirk on his face. Feeling my gaze on him Arden changes his smirk to a knowing smile directed at me. Feeling a blush start to come I turn from him.

“We will of course have two teams. And no we will not have boys against girls.” The boys snicker at the revelation.

“Arden you will pick your team and Scott you will pick yours.” The teacher says as Arden and Scott get up and stand in front of the class. Knowing what may happen I close my eyes and hope he does not do what he will do.

“Philias.” Ardens says first before I could direct a glare towards him. I could feel the curiosity directed towards me as I go and stand next him. Glaring daggers at him, I watch as he calls the rest of his team. Once done he looks at me.

“Don’t look so upset, I know how hard it would have been for you to not be by me.” He tells me. Smiling even more at the look of anger, I still had directed at him he walks away.

Throughout the game, Arden couldn’t help but be next to me the whole time and annoy me. Arden and I were the last two people on our team that were not out in the last five minutes of the game.

“What do you say, shall we win?” He asks me as the other team stares at us. Turning towards him to reply I feel the sting of a ball hitting my leg. The other team cheers at the prospect of only one person left to get out. Waving goodbye to Arden I head to the locker room to change out of my sweaty clothes.

Knowing this is the last class of the day and that the smell of sweat on my body will aggravate me on if I wait to shower when I get home. Grabbing a towel and my clothes, I head to the individual showers.

The warm water soothes my senses on my body as it cleans the sweat from them. Yes, vampires can sweat, but it doesn’t mean we like it.

Finishing my shower, I can hear the last bell of the day go off. While getting dressed I hear the last person in the room leave. Brushing my hair, I decide to leave it down to dry. I could put the top down on my car and let it dry in the wind.

The glare of the sun blinds me as I walk out of the building towards my car. Feeling a pair of eyes on me, I look up into Ardens as he leans on my car. Unable to break eye contact I walk towards him and my car.

Standing in front of him, I notice his hair is wet from his shower. Feeling shy that my hair is not only down but wet I look down at my shoes.

“Can I help you Arden?” I ask him in a low voice. Wanting to see his face again, I look up as he continues to stare at me.

“Thought you should know that I won the game.” He tells me with his always-existent smirk on his face.

“I know.” I tell him. Opening my car door I hear his breathing stop at my hair being caught up in the wind and swirling everywhere.

“Why do you always wear it down? It’s so pretty.” He tells me in an awed whisper. Turning around to look at him, I notice his hand in mid motion as he goes to touch my hair.

“I like it up.” I tell him as I jump in my car. Lowering his hand, he closes my door.

“I like it down. See you later Lia.” With that, he walks away towards his car not once looking back at me. Feeling confused I start up my car and head home.

ALSO the mark on the back of Ardens neck is showed in the picture on the side! I thought I'd give you guys a visual! I know it doesn't really look like a real tattoo, but hey I'm not a serious expert on making things looking like tattoos on photos. If anyone is I'd be happy to post your picture if you happen to make one! :) Just don't forget to show it to me! :)
