HUNTER HUNTER CHAPTER 4
NIJIKA P.O.V.
I leaned on the wall and observed people as they entered the room. The room that was empty when I first entered was crowded with many people who looked threatening. Notice how I said looked threatening? I didn't get any of the uneasy feeling like how Illumi-San and the red haired magician was giving me.
Which meant they weren't really that strong, and I didn't have to worry about it. As I watched, I was approached by a portly man with an big nose.
"Hey, are you new to the exam?" He questioned with a smile.
I coldly looked at him, my attitude completely different compared to how I acted around the Zoldyck family.I respected that family because of their strength, but this guy was nothing, more like trash. I almost scoffed at his fake smile, but I decided acting innocent might be a good idea.
"Yeah, I am."
"I'm Tompa, I've taken the exam multiple time, so ask me anything if you have questions," he smiled, I became slightly alerted and put my hand in my shorts pocket fingering the knife as he reached inside his bag.
"Here, have a drink to celebrate how we were able to come here!" he threw me a can and I easily caught it. I nodded at the man and opened the can and took a sip, though as soon as the liquid hit my tongue, I spat it out.
"You know, trying to poison people you just met isn't nice," I coldly state as I poured the rest of the can at his feet, "And next time you try it, use a different laxative than what you put in here, I could easily detect the weird taste."
I threw the empty can at him and walked off leavening the astonished man standing there with the can rolling at his feet.
Because of my short height, I couldn't really see the new people coming in so I jumped onto a ledge on the wall and patiently sat there.
The noise of the door opening caught my attention. I watched with disinterest as I saw an older man walk in, boring not interesting.
Though something else caught my attention. A boy with a cocky smirk was walking around with a skateboard underneath his arms, his silver spiky hair stood out while his blue eyes were cat like. I immediately saw the resemblance with Silva-San, so this must be Killua.
Like the rest of his family, he had a strong presence that made me slightly nervous. I eyed the yellow skateboard he had between his arm before looking at his casual clothing which included some baggy shorts with a dark colored turtle neck with another long sleeve above it.
My green eyes curiously followed him as he walked around with his tag of number 99. I smiled slightly as he confidently continued walked around, ignoring the looks he was receiving from the adults. Actually I was receiving a quite the amount of looks as well. Maybe children taking place in the hunter's exam were rare.
I observed how Tompa approached the silver hair boy, offering the drink to the boy as he did to me. Earlier, I learned he called himself the rookie crusher, he enjoyed destroying dreams of the people who wanted to become hunters.
I worriedly watched as Killua drank the drink and quickly finishing it with a burp. But I realized after a minute that he must be immune to poison because the smug look he gave Tompa, he knew it was poison yet he drank it willingly.
I giggled slightly, deciding I like his confident cocky attitude.
The noise of the door opening again caught my attention. To my surprise three people walked out of the door together. My eyes immediately caught sight of the spiky, black haired boy with round brown eyes.
He was young, probably around my age. Next to him were two other males who looked older than him. I watched curiously as Tompa walked up to them, using his dirty tricks once again.
I sighed and shook my head as the boy took a drink out of the can, not suspecting anything. But my attention went back to them when I heard a childish voice, "AAGH... Tompa-San! Your juice has a really bad taste, I think it's date is expired!"
I smiled and looked at the boy, he could tell the taste just like me. I chuckle as I saw Tompa sweat uncontrollably as he apologized. The two companions of the boy also threw their drinks away.
Tompa swiftly walked away looking terrified out of his mind. I chuckled as I jumped off my little spot on the wall and walked towards the boy. I was interested in him, he gave me a good feeling of strong. Unlike Illumi he didn't worry me, but I could feel his strength.
I stopped in from of him and smiled friendly. He looked at me curiously, his round brown eyes staring at my green ones. He was a few inches taller than my 4'9 so he must have been around 5'1 or 5'2. He had a medium sized brown bag on his back and a cool looking fishing rod.
"Hi, I'm Nijika!" I chirp as I stick my hand out. He grinned back at me and took my hand, "Gon, these are my friends Kurapika and Leorio!" He pointed to the blonde with the feminine face and the guy in the suit and work case.
The man Leorio gave me a smirk and wiggled his eyebrows, "I didn't expect people like here would be here!" I scoffed at his perverted attitude, but the blonde elbowed him, making Leorio quickly shut up.
I nod at Kurapika in thanks before looking at Gon, "It looks like we're one of the only few kids here," I comment.
The three males look around before hesitantly nodding. The boy Kurapika looked at me with narrowed eyes, I caught his stare and smiled at him, making him look away quickly. I guess he's the observant type of the group.
"By the way you're lucky that you didn't drink that drink."
The three males looked at me in confusion, making me smile at them.
"I'm a rookie like you guys, but I found out that Tompa guy is known as a rookie crusher, he tricks the rookies and make them drop out by using some messed up trick."
"What?!" Leorio screamed as he gained veins on his forehead. He glared at where Tompa was standing, the mentioned man shivered as if he felt Leorio's glare.
"Ma, at least you didn't drink it cause if you did, you'll probably be in the restroom for a couple of days." I say as I glare at Tompa as well, "I took a sip out of it earlier and immediately noticed the weird taste like Gon did and spat it out."
"Yeah!" Gon cheerfully stated, "It's lucky I drank it first, I often ate plants and buds in the mountains so I have no problem detecting weird taste in foods!"
I looked at him with surprise before nodding, "Same with me! I grew up in the mountains so I learned what poisonous plants taste like, so whenever I eat something poisonous I could tell."
I left the information about being immune to few poison out, since I didn't know if I could trust these three. But by watching Gon's character he seemed like a very honest trustworthy person.
Leorio and Kurapika stared at Gon and I with disbelief while we excitedly chatted about our life in the mountain.
"Suge! You were raised by Yama Inu and Mizu Nekos?"
I nodded, "Yeah! I grew up with them since I could remember and you're from Whales island? I always wanted to go there, I've heard they have some rare animals that only live there!"

I jumped slightly from the loud noise and stopped my chatting with Gon. I looked at where the noise was coming from and saw a man standing on an air vent. I carefully stared at the man with lavender hair that curled at the very ends. My eye curiously stared at his curly mustache for a second before analyzing him. He doesn't have a mouth... Weird...
"Here I am." His voice was polite and deep, "The time for the reception is over." He paused for effect making me feel slightly nervous, "Now the exam can begin."
I shared excited glances with Gon and grinned up at him, "Let's do our best Gon!"the dark haired boy nodded at me.
I watched as the lavender haired man jumped down and pointed to the tunnel, "This way please," the man started leading us deeper into the tunnel, the noise of our shoes squeaking under our feet echoing around us, "We'll begin with a short verification."
I walked with Gon, Leorio, and Kurapika, quietly listening to the man leading us talk.
"This is a very difficult exam. Sometime you can make a small mistake and be injured or you can simply die...." He paused, but didn't stop his walking, "There are moments when you'll get hurt because of a fellow examinee."
I frowned, he was probably talking about when the red haired magician cut off one of the man's arm. The blood of the man was disgusting, my nose twitched when it was first spilled. The burning at the back of my throat told me the countless wrongs he did.
The man suddenly stopped examining us, "Count is ok, 404 participants in the first round of the exam."
I stood between Leorio and Kurapika, "It seems obvious, but nobody has abandoned yet, never the less I hoped that..." Leorio was cut off by a Kurapika.
"It's weird." The blonde mumbled as he stared at the man who was leading us. But I couldn't help but nod in agreement as I also stared at the man. Most likely from the attitude of the man, he was our the examiner.
My eyes widen when the "examiner" suddenly started to walk, but not just a regular walk, but at a much faster pace. It was strange how neither of his arms or legs bend.
"What's happening here?" Leorio questioned as he looked around in confusion, "They're all so rushed to get out of here?"
I shook my head at his stupid commented and started to jog as well. Kurapika and Gon quickly following me.
"The ones in the front have all started running!" Gon yelled as he ran beside me.
The speed is getting faster and faster," Kurapika hissed as he explained to Leorio who finally understood what was going on.
The jog I had in the beginning was slowly starting to turn into a run as I tried to catch up to the front.
My ears pricked as I listened to the man leading us talk, "I seemed to have forgotten to mention one thing, I am Satotsu, and I'm in charge of the first round."
I scoffed, I think it's already obvious by now, "So I must lead you to the second stage."
I frowned, so the first round already started. I need to try my best!
Satotsu turned around and looked at us while he continued to take a long strides, which would probably equal to three steps for me because of the height difference.
"If you're able to follow me to the place where the second round stands, you have passed the first."
As soon as those words left Satosu's mouth a look of determination appeared on most of the running people's face.
I chuckled, if they used up their energy now, they'll probably die out. We should save the energy we have since we don't know how long we'll be running.
I smirked, so this was an endurance test. It'll most likely cut down half of the people here. I glanced at the three males who ran beside me with slight worry, they seemed like good people, I hope they pass.
Especially Gon since he seems like a person I'll like, a good companion and my age. Definitely friend worthy.
I hear one of the males yell out a question to Satosu, questioning how long we'll be running.
I frowned at the stupid question, this was a test, why would Satosu answer?
I laughed slightly when Satosu didn't answer the question, "I can't tell you where or when we'll arrive. You must contend with following me."
"You guys going to be alright with a endurance test?" I questioned, my breathing even as if I wasn't running at a fast pace.
This was an endurance test yet it seemed like it was a mental test as well. How long can we run, knowing we might not stop running for days?
A small chuckle escaped my mouth. Most people won't be able to take the physical and mental stress together, they'll start dropping like flies.
"An endurance test?" Leorio questioned with a smirk. I nodded while Kurapika also nodded in understanding, "I see, I believe I'll be perfectly fine, how about you Nijika-San?"
I smiled and nodded, "I'll be fine, but just call me Nijika, you're probably older than me and I just prefer Nijika." The blonde returned my smile and nodded before concentrating on his breathing.
Then I turned towards the dark spiked haired boy, "So Gon, how do you think about the rest so far?"
The boy smiled happily, "It's weird!"
I laughed and looked at Leorio, his face had a small droplet of sweat.
His suit obviously made things a bit hotter. He seemed to notice my worried glance and grinned widely, "I'm enjoying this! Where he goes, I go!"
I nodded in approval and continued to run. I could feel a strong presence coming from behind before it passed us with a small rattle.
My eyes followed the silver haired boy as he rode his skateboard. Leorio immediately noticed and glared at Killua, "Hey! Kid, that's not allowed! Stop cheating!"
Killua looked back and looked at the tall man in confusion.
"Why?"
I couldn't help but giggle at the innocent look he was giving Leorio. Since I'm closer to him I could see more of the resemblance between him and Silva. But he didn't look much like his three siblings.
Leorio was fuming as he angrily pointed at the silver haired boy, "You're asking 'why?', it's 'cause it's an endurance test!"
I frowned, well I assumed it was something like an endurance test but Satotsu never said it was an endurance test, right?
As if reading my mind Gon spoke up, "You're wrong Leorio! Satotsu-San only told us to follow him!"
I giggled and nodded, "Yeah, Satotsu-San did only say to follow, but we assumed it's an endurance test."
Leorio glared at us angrily through his glasses and pointed his finger at us, "Gon, Nijika! Which side are you in!" I shrugged while Gon laughed while continuing to run.
A cough stopped Gon's laughing for a second, "You should conserve your energy, you're being loud and your lessening your chance of passing this test." Kurapika stated as he sent Leolio a strict look.
I giggled as Leorio became more irritated and glared at all of us, his teeth clenched. I curiously watched as Killua stared at Gon in interest.
His eyes traveled to me for a second before going back to the energetic boy.
"Hey, tell me, how old are you two?" Killua spoke as he skated between Gon and I.
Gon confusedly pointed at himself questioning Killua if he was talking to him. The silver haired boy nodded and gave him a look.
"Twelve!"
A thoughtful look appeared on Killua's face, "Hmmmm, just like me."
Then he looked at me with a nod, "What 'bout you?"
"Around twelve!" A small smile appeared on Killua's face. He suddenly kicked his skateboard into the air and catching it between his arm before he quietly landed on the ground.
"Sugeee/Sugooiii!" Gon and I both yelled as we looked at the silver haired boy in fascination.
"I'll run with you guys." I grinned widely and nodded happily.
"I'm Killua."
Gon smiled back at him and ran, "And I'm Gon!"
I ran between them with a happy smile, "Nice to meet ya Killua! I'm Nijika!"
Killua seemed surprised at my action, but nodded at me with acknowledgement, though he observed me a bit worriedly.
Our eyes met and I tilted my head at him with a questioningly, he just grinned at me.
"Hey Mister, who are you?" The boy rudely questioned making the already irritated man to scream.
"Oi! I'm not that old! I'm of the same generation as you all!"
"EHHHH!" All three of us screamed in shock. Leorio was from the same generation as us? Isn't he a old man?
Gon being the honest one questioned, "Are you sure!!??"
"ARGHHHHHH!!! GON IT'S FINISHED!! I'M NEVER TALKING TO YOU AGAIN!" At the corner of my eye I noticed Kurapika running ahead of us hurriedly while he sweat dropped, was he trying to act as if he doesn't know us?
>>FAST FORWARDS>>
I frowned as I continued to run between Gon and Killua. Those two boys continued to chat happily while I participated in the conversation few times.
It's been four hours since we've started running and we ran around 23 miles or so.Worriedly I looked back to see the crowd we had a few hours ago lessening, I wonder how many has fallen back? And most important of all how much longer were we going to run?
I frowned as I saw Leorio had fallen back quite a lot as well. I sighed, I might as well help him, since I am kind of his friend. I saw Killua curiously look at me while nudging Gon with his elbow. When I saw them both looking at me, I closed my eyes and brought my right arm in front of me. Without really thinking I snapped my fingers.
A sudden wind blew around me making the air whip my short dark brown hair around. My feet lifted off the ground until I was floating in the air.
"Suge!!!" Killua and Gon cried as they both pointed at me their eyes sparkling with amazement. I crossed my legs doing the Indian style in the air before looking back at Leorio and snapping my fingers again.
"UWWWAAA!!! What the HELL!!!" I smirked as I heard the surprised yell of the older male.
"Wow! Leorio! You're floating too!" Gon cried as he watched Leolio in amazement. A sweaty Leorio was floating in the air in a awkward position, his head was facing the ground while his legs were pointing towards the ceiling.
He soon zoomed right next to me, I controlled the wind to pick him up so he could save his energy.
"How you do that?" Killua questioned as he looked at me in interest.
I shrugged, "I actually don't know, I just was able to do this since I was younger," I honestly answer.
"My bag! You, you made me drop my bag!" Leorio angrily cried while glaring at me.
I shrugged and smiled, I rub my hands together feeling a bit cold, "At least I'm helping you!" I paused when I noticed Gon stopping and pulling out his fishing pole.
With great accuracy he used the hook to grab the bag laying on the ground.
"Wow!" I yell as I look at his fishing pole excitedly, that was so cool!
Killua nodded in agreement, "Oh, that's a pretty cool trick, would you let me do that?"
I nodded my head eagerly wanting to try it out as well, "Only if you lend me your skateboard and make me float in the air too!"
Killua and I both share a look before grinning, "DEAL!!!" With a strong powerful snap of my fingers I made Killua and Gon float into the air as well.
