                              Chapter 10 : Merdicus

Lucinda was shaking me violently by the time my mind was wondering what for God's sake the door was banging for.

"Get up you sleepyhead! Do I have to blow your head off for you to wake up! Huh?," Lucinda barked. "The Institute has some announcements to make and the Patrols are here to get us. Now get dressed slimeball!" She let go of my shirt and trudged to her chair, drumming her fingers on the wooden armrest. She eyed me on chin level, I softened my stare, she noticed this and looked at me in the eye.

I saw right away why she changed her attitude. The Patrols, as she called them, are installing the new cameras today and she can't let anyone know what's happening here in the Jibb room. I remember her say before, was it yesterday?, "They're putting up the new cameras by tomorrow, this will be our last talk about the Jibb room and my personal data's and yours. So if thou hast any to tell me, let it be now. We can still talk in secret but it will have to be venued outside of this room. If we may ever have the chance to be out of this hell, that is."

I gave a silent yes directly to her, she saw the message and twitched her eye. Hurry.

I threw on some dry gray shirt, adn some white pants. SInce there were no shoes or anything that goes into my feet around here, I decided to go barefoot. It's not like I have any other choice.

"Ready?," Lucinda mouthed. I glanced at her and looked right back at the doorknob. Yes.

She grip the knob until her knuckles turned pale, she seemed unwilling to open it, as if it was her first time. Seeing her relutancy, I laid my hands on hers.

"It will be okay." I gave her a reassuring smile. Is it really you, Lisanna?, I mentally asked Lucinda, she seemed not to read the message. I turned away, hands still on hers. I grippeed at her hands and she shot me an uncomfortable look, like a monster might pounce on her once the door is opened.

Lucinda was my duty now, seeing as though I have lost Hasmariva. I would protect all those dear to me. Lisanna was my closest friend back then, and she left. She left with the scar I gave her. I didn't mean it to be that way, I swear. We were only playing and I pulled her out of the swing because of the incoming storm. The next thing I knew, she was covering her hands, all bloody and pale. And where was Master Gudo that time? The rained started to fall on our bodies. The pool of water beneath Lisanna was drowned in blood, she kept staring. Staring staring staring. DOw at her blood. Her eyes wide with fear and pain. All she could do was bite her lip and produce a silent scream of agony. It's my fault she had to experience that pain at an early age. And now, it still is my fault that Hasmariva is gone. And that people maybe hurting her or making her taste her own blood.

Lucinda placed her hand on mine, we stood there for seconds. Gazing at each others eye. "You are not that person, Merdicus." She smiled. "There is a difference between, distance and past, although, you have made them quite a fit together. You are putting distance to who you were when you were three, when in fact it already was your past. Look forward to future, there are much to be done."

I didn't know I had left my self so open to emotions that it was plastered on my face.

"You were not that open, Merdicus."

I lokked at her. There was much more to this lady than percieved. There were more chambers hiding down her personality. Many more for me to uneath and discover. Brigh bright Lucinda. Can she read minds? No no, certainly not. But what if it is that? SInce mind reading is not such a fictional doing, it maybe that she has mastered the art of mind reading. If so, my thoughts are not safe from hers.

"No, Merdicus. I do not mind read. Such thought is childish!" She turned with a serious look in her eyes. She mouther the words, "I see through people like clear water, whenever I let myself do it. It is tiring. Oh very much. But we share the same talent. You bore the mark of Olivia don't you? Or maybe Sanes? Or even Zen's? Yes, yes, whatever you may have. And no, I am not lying. Can you keep your thoughts to yourself, Merdicus!" She giggled.

I didn't know what she was talking about! Olivia? Sanes? Sen?

"Zen, my dear. Not Sen. Only three people now bear the mark of Zen. It is much too complex for anyone to handle. And the past who had the mark died. There were exaclty two hundred, who had Zen's. But they died. They didn't know how to control it." She rested her head in the air, waving and waving.

Just as I was about to reply, a loud banging on our door started again. I almost jumped out of shock when Lucinda said we were coming out in a second. She looked at me again, this time, I put my hands away, and let her open the door herself. She wobbled slightly when the knob turned, but she was able to straighten herself when the door was fully opened.

I didn't know the reason to why she was so scared, and then, it so happened my wondering was answered.

They linked somekind of electric wiring to our necks and all it hurt like dickens. Like my whole body was burning. Like I was dipped into hot molten gold. The electricity passed through my bones as if I was being sliced from the inside, like my bones were dipped into pure mercury. Gid it felt like the hair on my skin was being plucked out. I turned in time to look at Lucinda shreiking and struggling, then falling on her knees, then her face with a loud thug. Only then did I see a familiar figure walking to us. But I was to weak to even focus on that single thing walking toward me.

Captain Harth boomed in a voice so loud, "I see you, Merdicus!" And he nudged my stomach, worsening the pain twice stronger. "Bah, begin!" He commanded the ones carrying my electric wire, they began to drag my to my feet toward the familiar figure. The scene was dancing in my eyes now, I can hardly keep both eyes open! Then the figure gasped in horror as she saw my disheveled appearance.

"Merdicus!" She screamed. She started to kick and pounce on her captors but they wouldn't buckle. Poor her, she can't even win her battle.

I was starting to loose my memories, who was this girl anyway?

Out of nowhere, Captain Harth hushed in my ear, "I hope you like my Inventirant, Merdicus." He was referring to the electrical wire around my neck.

The girl was drawing near me, still kicking and, oh my God! She had cuts all over her body. Her leg thigh was swollen violet and her veins were showing. I looked at her face, and at that second so many things happened.

That single name ringed so many memoried back, bringing myself back in control. It would take true love to have reversed the effect of Inventirant, and I had so much of that.

                                   HASMARIVA.

                                                My sweet sweet dream.

       My promise.

                                                    . . . save you.

                                                                                  I . . .

                        . . . so much . . . can't move . . . stay.

                   Hasmariva!

Right there I had the strength to fight these guys. But when they saw movement in me, the clicked open Inventirant. I swear, it could've killed me. The pain oh the pain. Too much to bear. Too much to fight off. Too much to overcome. Too much to control. But the sight of her made me strong enough to push away death's offer of freedom. It was much too tempting to refuse, but it was a thousand times harder to leave the person you love. Specially when you had so many things left to do. So many things left undone.

For now, this had to suffice. One more strangling and I am as good as dead.

Finally, the heavens have heard. I was back home, once again. Hasmariva. My home.
