Riley's POV
"Riley." Jake repeated once more, but this time, he began to get up and move out, from the bed he was still laying in.
Within all the years I've known Jake, I've never felt this way just because he said my name. My heart was thumping so hard, it felt as though it may jump right out of my chest. My cheeks grew a darker shade of red, and my ears were on fire.
I could tell that there was something different in the air, kind of like last night, except today, it's more intense.
"Jake. I have to confess something." I said when he was merely a foot away from me.
"And what is that Riley?" He replied with a smile plastered to his face.
"Well... It's about what really happened last night... You told me that you loved me.. But before that happened, we had a new years-" With that I had been cut off by Jake pressing his lips against mine, but it wasn't like last night, when he had drank too much. No. Today, it all felt much more real, and this time, he'd remember this kiss.
We pulled away, breathless. All I could think in that moment is 'Let this be real and not a dream!!!' Because if this were a dream, I'd be so.. I don't even know.
"I do love you Riley." Jake said staring straight into my eyes.
"I-I love you too Jake." I'm always stuttering around him lately!
"Well, then Riley Davis, will you be my girlfriend?" Did. Jake. Just. Ask. Me. To. Be. His. Girlfriend?!
Oh my gosh! I can't believe this moment finally came! When some people say new year, new life, they mean it quite literally I guess.. Just a few years ago I never would've thought we'd end up here, Jake asking me to be his girlfriend! It's kind of sad that I wish I had a best friend to freak out to about this, only to realize that my best friend is the one who asked me out..
Wait a second.. I should probably stop standing here like an idiot and answer him!!!
"Yes Jake, of course I'll be your girlfriend!!" with that, I gave him a huge hug, followed by another kiss..
"So.. do you want to maybe hang out tonight..?" Jake asked almost sounding shy!! It's really weird, he's never been nervous when asked if we can hang out!!
"Yah, that should be really fun." I replied to him with a huge smile on my face.
"Ew. Why don't you two get a room!!" I hear Bradley say from the hallway.
I couldn't help but keep my goofy smile, but I turned around and just said "Brad.. Technically we did get a room, you just walked by it!" He basically ignored that.
"Well at least Jake finally grew the balls to ask you out!" Bradley said while running to his room before either me or Jake killed him, but the weird thing is, what he said just made me giggle a little, I was too happy thinking about the fact that officially, Jake and I were a couple now!
"Just ignore him Jake, he hasn't had the guts to ask out the girl he likes yet!" I tell me but he just gives me a questioning look. "What??"
"Have you been eavesdropping on your brother again??"
"Well I had nothing better to do!!!" I say in response to what he said.
"Haha, okay." Then I saw he looked around and then said, "Wow.. Its already 4:30??"
"Well, yah, you were asleep for a while... You drank a lot last night. And also with the whole Annabelle and Ethan thing just before..."
"I guess I really did... and oh yah.. Hey, do you mind if I just go have a shower?"
"No, not at all! Go ahead!"
With that, Jake went off to the bathroom to have his shower. I feel wonderful right now!!
I walked down to the kitchen where my mom had already been beginning to cook supper. I felt so light right now, like I'm on cloud nine!!
"What are you so happy about Riley??" My mom said clearly noticing that there was something different. I'm sure she heard what had happened but is just pretending to not know just so that I'd tell her.
"Um.. I'm not friends with Annabelle anymore.."
"And why is that?"
"Because she's the wicked witch of the west 2.0 and tried stealing Jake from me.."
"And where is Jake now? After I saw Ethan and Annabelle leave, I hadn't heard or seen anybody else leave."
"He's just in the shower."
"Oh, okay."
"Okay! I can't hold it in anymore!! Jake and I are dating now mom!! And I kind of have Annabelle to thank for it! Then again.. If anything we would've been dating for longer now if it wasn't for her... So never mind! I don't have her to thank! But I am so happy!! Jake and I have been best friends for who knows how long, but this is different!! Like, now we're dating and-"
"Wow. Take a pause there. I'm so happy for you two Riley!!" My mom said and gave me a big hug then continued, "But I already knew you two would end up together, just the way that you two have such great chemistry together. I saw it the very first time I saw you two together." My mom finished with a proud smile on her face.
That's when we heard someone coming down the stairs and so both my mom and I went to look at Jake... Only to see Bradley coming down the stairs..
"Oh Bradley!! I love you so much!!!" I said and went over to him and gave him a huge bear hug.
"Mom.. Help... Can't... Breath.." I hear him say, then I hear someone chuckle behind me. I let go of Bradley, turned around and a smile grew onto my face seeing Jake standing there with his wet disheveled hair.
"Oh mom?" I began turning away from Jake and towards my mom instead, "Can Jake eat supper here tonight?"
"I kinda figured that much already, but you two have to go set the table, we're having hamburgers tonight."
"Haha! You two have to set the table!!" Bradley said pointing his finger at us and laughing as though this was something that was terribly bad even though, it really wasn't.
"Laugh it up Bradley, but it'll be your turn tomorrow! And you won't have someone to help you!" I said back to him.
"You two are such kids." Was all my mother said as she went into the kitchen to finish making the hamburgers and salad. Jake and I followed close behind her to set the table and Bradley just took a seat at the table.
Once we all sat down and began to eat, we mostly stayed silent, but not an awkward silence, a comfortable silence, until Bradley ruined it.
"So why don't you two just get married now since Jake practically lives here anyways! But just no sex!! I can wait a little bit until I have little nieces and nephews!" At that, I practically choked up the food that I had in my mouth and my cheeks turned a dark shade of red.
"Bradley!" My mother said at the same time that I kicked him under the table.
"Mom, we were both thinking it!" He said and then we remained silent again, this time, it was more of an awkward silence.
"The salad is delicious Miss Davis." Jake said trying to break the silence I guess.
"Thanks Jake, but really, call me Helen." Mom said with a motherly smile.
After we all finished supper, Bradley had to clean off the table. Sucks to be him! I prefer putting stuff on the table than putting things away since that means he has to do the dishes too!!
I grabbed Jake's hand and made my way to my room.
"What do you want to do now?" I asked him because I had no idea as to what to do..
"I have something in mind!" And with that, he sat me on my bed, then walked towards the tv. "Our last marathon of Friends, we only really got through the first season.. So how's about we watch season two? Since last time we kind of both fell asleep.."
He held up the dvd set for season two of Friends with a little smile on his face.
"Pft... What?? You totally fell asleep first..." I said jokingly even though he and I both knew I fell asleep first... Oops..
"Yes.. Of course.. It was me. Not you." He said right back.
"Okay, so how about you go make us some popcorn and I'll get changed into my pyjamas??"
"Ry, you do know how early it is right?"
"Yup, but I like my pyjamas!!"
"Haha, okay, I'll go make us some popcorn then." And with that, Jake went downstairs to make us some popcorn!! It always tastes better when he makes it!
I quickly got changed into some pyjamas, shorts and a tank top, put in the first dvd and then went to sit in bed and wait for my boyfriend (ahhhh I love the sound of that!!! Jake is my boyfriend!!) to come back with some popcorn for us.
Jake's POV
I walk out of Ry's room and all I can think is the last time we did this feels too long ago than it should. I just can't believe that she and I are official now.. I mean, my life isn't perfect or anything, but just the fact that she's been in my life as my friend this entire time makes it better, but now she's my girl. Yes, that sounds kind of obsessive but I don't mean it like Gollum and his "precious", I just mean we're now, closer in a way.
As I walk into the kitchen, Riley's mom is sitting at the kitchen table with a bowl of popcorn in the middle of the table, she got up when she saw me enter the kitchen and gave me a hug.
"Jake, thank you for always being there for Riley. When you're around, I see my daughter light up, and that's just something a mother loves seeing in her daughter. But I know you have no intention to, but as the adult here, I have to say it, hurt her, and I will hurt you." Miss Davis said. I was not expecting that.
"Don't worry, I have no intention of going anywhere."
"Also, I know you already know but still, just know you are always welcome here." She said giving her motherly smile knowing that I don't like going home much. Then she turned and grabbed the bowl of popcorn and said, "Oh! I also kind of figured you two would be watching movies or something tonight, so I made you popcorn."
"Thank you, Helen." I said grabbing the popcorn and then I saw another smile on Riley's mom, a different one. With that I head back upstairs to Riley's room.
When I walked in I saw her laying in bed and I also saw that the dvd was already in the dvd player, so I handed her the popcorn.
"Since you were allowed to get your pyjamas on, can I get mine on too?"
"Nope. Only I'm allowed." She said to me jokingly.
Since I was already wearing my basketball shorts, I simply took of my shirt and went to lay next to Riley but I couldn't help but chuckled at the look on her face and the way her cheeks and tip of her ears went red.
"I know, I know, I look good right?? No need to stare though, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon." I said getting under the covers and then I continued, "So, shall we continue our marathon of Friends?"
"Yah, let's begin. But first..." And with that, Riley kissed me ever so lightly, teasingly, but yet it was still perfect. "I love you Jake." That's when my worry of being friendzoned vanished, and I knew that the girl that I loved, loved me back.
"I love you too Riley Davis."

This was the last chapter of Friend zoned or not... I haven't yet decided whether or not there will be an epilogue.. Maybe!! But if there is an epilogue then you guys will know soon!! I promise!!
Thank you for actually reading my story and for not murdering me for such the long pauses between each chapter. I hope you all enjoyed the story of Jake and Riley!!!
