Auston's POV- December 2016
"Both my parents are doctors, so it was no surprise to anyone when I decided I wanted a career in the medical field"
Maddy and I had gone to Costco for 'necessities' after practice. My fridge was now stocked with food that she was planning on cooking throughout the week and food that I could snack on. During one of our many trips to unload the car, we bumped into Mo. He helped us, and Maddy convinced me to invite him over for dinner. Currently, the three of us were eating together.
"What do your parents specialize in?"
I reached for more sautéed green beans as she reached for her napkin to cover her mouth.
"My dad is the head physician for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and my mom is the Orthopedic surgeon"
Her moms was a top surgeon in the state of California. She was close friends with the head physician of the LA Dodgers and was the 'unofficial' team surgeon of the team.
"When are you planning on checking out the campus?"
She moved the napkin away from her mouth and reached for the wine glass across from her.
"You can borrow my car" I offered.
She smiled.
"I'll take you up on that offer"
"You do have your international license, right?" I asked.
She nodded.
"I'm actually going tomorrow, the advisor of the program agreed to give me a tour of the place"
"That's nice of her" I noted.
"But that means I have to wake up early"
I chuckled because if it was one thing she hated was waking up early.
"What time are you guys out of practice?"
I looked at Mo.
"It's usually about 2 hours"
"We should be out by noon" I told her.
She set her wine glass down and nodded.
"I should be back by then. I have to be there before 8:30"
"When will you know if you got in?" I asked.
"Until February"
I nodded.
"I'm sure you'll get in, they would be stupid not to accept you" I stated.
She offered me a smile before looking down at her food.
"When was the last time you saw the campus?"
She picked up two green beans with her fork.
"I was real young, we're talking like at least ten years ago"
He hummed.
"Makes sense, you have to make sure you still like it"
"Exactly!"
I reached for the wine bottle and filled my glass.
"Want more?" I asked Mo.
He looked away from Maddy and nodded.
"Yeah, thanks"
I nodded and filled his glass up.
"Anything I should know about Auston?"
She took a sip of her wine and smiled.
"What do you want to know?"
He grinned when I frowned at both of them.
"Got any dirt on him?"
She clicked her tongue and nodded.
"Oh I do, but I promised that I wouldn't tell any of you"
She winked at him earning a chuckle from him.
"Any way I could convince you?"
They had been flirting non-stop with each other since yesterday. Yes it did piss me off, and yes I was jealous. Maddy had made it clear last night that even though she did find 'Morgan' attractive she wasn't here for a relation, she was here to see if the program was good enough for her to attend next school year. She basically implied that she would never date my teammates.
"I'm stubborn, you can even ask Auston"
Mo looked at me and I nodded.
"Who wants dessert?"
"I do" I answered.
She stood up and made her way to the kitchen. I cleared my throat when I saw Mo check Maddy out.
"So how exactly do you know Matts?"
"I don't know a Matts"
He smiled and rolled his eyes.
"Sorry, Auston"
She nodded and turned back around.
"I'm a family friend, his older sister Alexandria is my best friend"
She made her way back and placed a plate with chocolate covered strawberries on the table.
"Quick question"
She hummed as she took a bite of the strawberry. Even I had to admit, my brain turned off and something else turned on.
"Are you going to ask"
I looked at Mo who nodded slowly.
"Sorry, got a bit distracted"
She smiled.
"You obviously play a sport"
She raised an eyebrow.
"You can tell?"
He nodded.
"You've got a great body"
She laughed.
"What's your secret?"
I nearly rolled my eyes, but I refrained from doing that. If Maddy caught me rolling my eyes she'd call me out on it.
"Squats"
"She's not a hockey player" I told him.
"I know that"
I smiled when she cocked her head to the side.
"Yeah? How can you tell"
His eyes widened and we both laughed.
"I'm kidding with you, I play softball"
"What position?"
She finished eating her strawberry and sat up.
"Catcher"
"Explains the squats"
I reached for a strawberry and took a bite.
"So you know your baseball"
I chuckled as she glanced at the snapback on the table. She had made him take off his hat stating it was disrespectful to eat while wearing a hat.
"Yup"
I shifted to pull out my vibrating phone from my pocket and ended the call. The second I set my phone on the table, it began vibrating again.
"Looks like someone is trying to get a hold of you"
I looked at Maddy and smiled.
"I'll call back later" I told her.
"It could be important"
I shook my head.
"It's not" I replied.
I reached for my phone and declined the call.
"I'll send a text" I said.
She nodded and turned back to Mo.
"So you play collegiate softball?"
"She plays Division I for the Florida Gators" I told him.
I was private when it came to my life, I tried to keep it as private as I could. That meant making sure the girls I slept with did not go around telling everyone. If they did the chances of me speaking to them again were none.
"Nice, when does your season start?"
"February"
He smiled at her.
"Your done after this semester, how does that feel?"
She let out a light sigh.
"I literally got a wave of nostalgia right now. I've been there for the past five years, and I've had the time of my life. I graduate in April, but fingers crossed that our post season is long"
He nodded.
"So are you ladies any good?"
I laughed.
"They won back to back National titles" I informed him.
He looked at Maddy and smiled.
"Beautiful, smart and athletic. You're the full package"
I bit the inside of my cheek when I saw her cheeks were beginning to flush.
"Oh my god, that wine just hit me"
She fanned her face with her hands as Mo laughed. I did not find this whole situation funny.
