Beep. Beep. Beep.

(Y/N) slammed down on her alarm clock. 'Twas the first day of school, and this girl 'twas not very happy about that.

Even though she was excited to see her friends again, (Y/N) knew most days she'd be left staring aimlessly off as a teacher droned on about something she'd never actually need to know. Sometimes, especially now, (Y/N) just wished she could experience some of the things that happened in anime and escape her seemingly dull reality.

(Y/N) pulled on her school uniform. The girl didn't really mind wearing a uniform since it saved her the time of searching for an outfit to wear, plus it wasn't horribly ugly. She quickly brushed her (H/C) hair and patted down her skirt. (Y/N) went to make breakfast before heading to school. She walked downstairs and saw her mother, who was currently eating her own meal.

"Good morning, (Y/N)!" (Y/N)'s mother greeted cheerfully.

"You're leaving today, right?" The teen asked rather nonchalantly, more focused on preparing herself some food.

"Yes, your father and I are leaving in a few hours, but he's asleep right now."

(Y/N) knew that any amount of sleep was necessary for her father, since her parents' jobs allowed little downtime, so she just gave a small nod in response.

Her mother continued, looking even more distressed as she spoke, "We will be gone for a month, at the very least." (Y/N) looked sadly at her mother, who was obviously worried about the girl's well-being.

"No need to worry about anything, you know I have neither the will nor means to do anything crazy." (Y/N) said with a small smile, trying to comfort her saddened mother. "I've been alone for a longer amount of time, " (Y/N) added as she walked over to the toaster and popped a piece of bread in.

"I know, I know." Her mother said as she washed her plate, "It's just that I hate leaving you alone all the time." (Y/N) looked at her mother, not knowing what to say. After a few painfully long seconds, her mother broke the silence, "Well, just make sure not to miss too much school, and keep your grades up." (Y/N)'s mother said, trying her best to smile for her daughter. "And one more thing," (Y/N) looked at her mother, "we won't be able to use our phones much this time around since we'll be out of the country, so if you need something, ask the neighbors, they'll help you with whatever you need." (Y/N)'s mother said before giving a faint smile.

"Yeah, okay." (Y/N) replied with a reassuring smile.

Ding!

(Y/N) grabbed her toast and walked with as much joy as she could muster out the door.

After walking for a bit, (Y/N) stood up to her school gate and sighed, dreading all the things to come. But her sadness didn't last long, for she soon heard an all too familiar voice.

"(YYY/NNN)!!!"

Before (Y/N) could realize what was happening, she suddenly made contact with another person and the hard ground.

"Hey, Ayako!! Get off of me!" (Y/N) yelled at said girl and immediately felt a pressure lift.

"Sorry, (Y/N)!" Ayako said, trying to please her angered friend by helping her up. (Y/N) grasped onto Ayako's hand and pulled herself up. Just as (Y/N) stood up, she saw a smaller figure enter the frame. (Y/N) greeted her other friend.

"Hey, Itsumi." (Y/N) smiled gleefully at the blonde.

Ayako and Itsumi were (Y/N)'s best friends, and she didn't know how she would have survived school without them, both literally and figuratively. All schools could be hell, but the student relations there were often a bit intense. Needless to say, it was nice to have people who had your back.

They all started walking towards the school entrance. (Y/N) and Itsumi heard squealing, and they looked over towards Ayako.

"Hey! You guys will never believe what I have to say!" Ayako's eyes bright blue eyes shined, and (Y/N) could see Ayako's azure hair bounce up and down.

Ayako must have had something really important to share. Itsumi's brown eyes looked up with curiosity and a tad bit of excitement.

"What's got you so riled up? And please don't say another thing about Netflix. Last time you spent a whole hour describing one episode of your favorite show." (Y/N) said exhaustingly, and Ayako blushed profusely.

"Okay, first of all, any shows I recommend are pure greatness and you know that, and second of all, this is actually about some juicy gossip I heard!" Ayako stated defensively, her boisterous aura remaining unaffected by her friend's jab.

"Ayako, being the holy, pure human being I am, I cannot stand you spreading such things." (Y/N) joked as she tried to get on the other girl's nerves, succeeding to do as Ayako quickly flared up.

"Just listen, will you?! I heard from Kano that there's a bunch of really cute guys moving in this year and they're possibly extremely attractive!"

Ayako appeared to simmer down once she had finished with what she wanted to say.

"Wow! Really?!" Itsumi asked With a glimmer in her eye.

"I swear, Ayako, not this again." (Y/N) said while shaking her (H/C) head. Itsumi giggled a little, and (Y/N) turned to face the blonde. "Hey, you're no better, Itsumi."

Itsumi pouted. "I don't see what's wrong with finding guys attractive."

(Y/N) shook her head. "It's not just one guy though, it is literally every guy that you two find even slightly attractive."

Ayako then chimed in. "Yeah, well at least we put ourselves out there."

(Y/N) shrugged. "I'm fine being single right now."

Itsumi sighed. "You're hopeless, (Y/N)."

"Well of course she is, have you met her?" The three girls turned to see a brunette male behind them.

"There you are, Masato!" Ayako yelled, greeting said male.

"Hi, Masato." Itsumi greeted with a sweet smile.

"..." (Y/N) stayed quiet.

"Oh, don't be so angry, (Y/N)! You know I was just teasing!" Masato exclaimed, patting (Y/N) on the head.

"Yeah, whatever." (Y/N) muttered passive-aggressively, facing away from the boy.

"You're so depressing, (Y/N)." Ayako groaned, and Itsumi giggled.

"What?! I am not!" (Y/N) suddenly shouted, immediately switching her persona.

"There's the (Y/N) we know and love!" Ayako exclaimed, and Itsumi and Masato giggled in the background.

The bell rang.

"Well I'm out of here; I'll see you guys later." (Y/N) said happily as the four parted ways.

(Y/N)'s mood quickly shifted to a somber one as she made her way to her first class: math. She could only groan internally when it came to mind. The only thing worse than having math at the end of the day was at the very beginning. Critical thinking in the early morning was definitely not her thing, though she was pretty sure that applied to most everyone.

(Y/N) walked into the classroom and looked around. The teacher appeared to be outside the classroom at the moment, and about half the students were there as more flooded in. She spotted her good friend in the back and walked up to his desk.

"Hey, Keshi." (Y/N) greeted, as she set her things on the desk in front of his. Keshi put down the book he was reading and looked up.

"Oh, hey, (Y/N)." He uttered a little wearily, staring up with his ocean-like eyes.

"You look tired." (Y/N) said once she saw the exhausted look in her friend's eyes.

"Yeah, didn't get much sleep." He said, turning his attention back to his book.

"You should try to sleep in sometimes. You don't have to be early every day, especially on the first one." She commented and sighed in compassion and tiredness. (Y/N) sat at her seat, setting her arm on his desk.

"What's it about?" (Y/N) asked and was returned with a confused expression as Keshi looked up.

"What's what about?"

Keshi, confused, stared curiously at the girl.

"Your book, is it good?" The (H/C)-haired teen stated back with yet another question as she motioned to his book.

"It's about World War II, so it's not the most cheery, but it's still really interesting." He answered, now closing the book, focusing his attention on the girl in front of him.

"Maybe I should read it sometime." (Y/N) said with a shrug. The bell rang, and (Y/N) turned around as Keshi put away his book.

Everyone looked ahead as the teacher came walking in. She looked to be in her late-twenties to early-thirties, and she wore her chestnut hair in a loose bun. Her flats clicked against the floor. She faced the class and gave a bright smile.

"Hello! I am Miss Fujioka, and I will be your math teacher fo-" she was interrupted as the classroom door burst open and a panting boy stepped in.

"Sorry, I'm late. I'm a little new here."

The boy gave a somewhat dorky smile, though he didn't seem as embarrassed as one might expect.

(Y/N) couldn't lie, he was pretty cute. He had light brown hair and bright, silver eyes. His uniform looked as though he had put it on in a rush, with the tie barely done and his jacket falling down one of his shoulders.

"Well because you're new here, and it's the first day, I'll let you off the hook." She said with a small sigh, "Now go find a seat." She said motioning to the empty desks around the classroom.

A few girls gave him "friendly" waves, while some just looked at him practically with stars in their eyes. He sat down to the right of (Y/N) and flashed her a smile, while the girls in the class quickly shifted their lovey gaze into glares directed in her direction. Besides bullying, boys were also a bit of a problem among the females at that school, though (Y/N) never understood it.

"Well as I was saying," Miss Fujioka continued, "I will be your math teacher for the year, and please reach out to me if you need anything. Where you sit today will be your seats for the semester, unless there is some reason for me to move you."

Once Miss Fujioka had finished talking, (Y/N) turned around and whispered to Keshi, "Guess we'll be sitting together from now on." She smiled and looked forward to the teacher, who started rambling on about expectations and what-not for the year ahead.

(Y/N) had begun to jot down notes for future reference, when she felt a nudge to her right and looked over.

"Hey, you don't have any paper, do you? I don't mean to be rude, it just completely slipped my mind to get some." The brunette whispered quickly, they were near the back, but Miss Fujioka still was still in earshot.

(Y/N) nodded and swiftly handed him a few sheets of notebook paper, and then returned back to work as the class went on.
