So this is a happy birthday for my best friend because she is just that amazing :D

"So, how was Tyler?"

"A bore."

"He can't have been that bad."

"He talked about gardening tools."

"Wow. You've got a good list developing. First there was Ian and his sports cars. Then there was Jack and his football boots. Then there was Ben who was just downright rude. And Sam who couldn't remember your name. Then Charlie who fell asleep during Hunger Games. And Johnny who tried to get you to quit Girls Brigade. And now Tyler."

"Well, firstly, it's not the worst thing in the world. They did all buy me dinner. And, secondly, Charlie took me out quite a few places before he dozed off. And, thirdly, Johnny came before Luke, Alan and Spencer, who all came before Ian."

"What happened with Luke, Alan and Spencer?"

"Luke didn't get on with my sugar intake."

"No one sane does. But I guess they need to tolerate it to be able to date you."

"Alan kept telling me that I was fat."

"Well that's just a jerk showing himself."

"And Spencer kept telling me that I bored him and that I was the worst girl in the world."

"Another rude one. Okay. Next time avoid talking to guys. Get someone to screen test them for you."

"Jess?"

"Yeah?"

"Shut up. Anyway, I need to buckle down a bit now. The shop isn't having fun at the moment."

"I could never quite figure out why you work as The Music Shop. Yes, it's basically the Wal-Mart of music shops but still."

"Because I love it and you know I do. I could ask you the same about working at The Book Shop. One that isn't anywhere near the Wal-Mart of book shops."

"Alright. I've lost the argument. I get it."

Rebekah smiled before heading to her room. She lay back on her bed and soon found herself drifting off to sleep. She was awoken by a loud knock on the door.

 "Becky?"

"Yeah?"

"Sorry to wake you up now but there's someone waiting for you downstairs."

She looked over to her clock to see it was just after five. She was quickly upped and dressed and hurried downstairs. She walked into the kitchen to see a short blonde girl waiting for her.

 "Hey."

"Hey, Nora. What are you doing here?"

"I needed a place to stay, if that's okay."

"Yeah, sure. Why? What about Jake?"

"We had a fight and I left ."

"Oh, okay. Well, Nora, this is Jess. Jess, this is Nora. Nora works with me."

"Oh. Well, I need to get ready for work. I need to get there early. We’ve got a newbie today. Nice to meet you."

"I'll make breakfast."

"It's nice  to meet you too. Thanks."

Rebekah filled the flat with the sounds and smells of a perfect fry up.

"I didn't realise that you were so talented."

"I've been living with Jess far too long."

"I'm off. Oh, I nearly forgot. I'm not sure if I'll be in tonight. But if I am I'll be late. Nate!"

Jess left with a grin plastered onto her face. Nora looked down at her breakfast.

"Nate's gonna be the death of her. Why don't you take a sick day?"

"But it'll leave you with too much work."

"No it won't. Have a rest. You look like you haven't slept in days. The shop will survive a day without you. I better get ready."

Rebekah left Nora sleeping on the sofa and headed off to work. She was greeted by everyone running around like headless chickens. By the time customers had begun to arrive the mad buzz still seemed to have hold of them all. Rebekah seemed to be wanted every five seconds. She couldn't find the new plectrums to put out and had a broken drum stool to replace. She finally found out a stool and headed over to the bright blue kit that lacked seating.

 "Excuse me?"

"Yeah?"

"Hi. I was wondering if you had any straps on sale?"

"We do."

"Oh good. I'm pretty broke and I was playing this morning before starting my new job and my guitar decided to make friends with my toe. Jess said this place had good stuff."

"Jess?"

"I work with her."

"She wouldn't, by any chance, be Jess Parker?"

"I think that's right. She works at The Book Shop next door."

"Yeah, that's her. You must be the newbie. I'm Rebekah."

"John. How do you know Jess."

"I live with her. So, you play guitar?"

"I've got a band going."

"Sounds good. Well, you better get to the straps. I've got to finish a pick hunt."

The rest of the day was just as stressful and Rebekah was soon glad to reach the end of it. She left, almost running to the Starbucks across the road. She joined the queue and waited in patient silence.

"So we'll meet up tomorrow afternoon? Yeah, I know. It sucks but it was important. Bye."

Rebekah looked over to see John sat at a table, hanging up, staring out of the front window. A slim, blonde woman walked in and sat at his table. Rebekah could feel her heart sinking to her feet. He seemed nice. And he wasn't bad to look at either. She could hear giggling but she didn't want to look. She ordered her drink and hurried out. She sat, waiting for the bus, listening to He Is We as loud as her ears could bare. She kept her eye out but spent most of the time staring at her feet. Her toes were dancing when they suddenly gained partners. She looked up to see they were owned by a tanned man with manic spiky hair.

"Hi. Sorry to disturb you and all but I was wondering if you wanted to get a drink?"

"I guess so."

"I'm Greg."

"Rebekah."

He led her back into Starbucks and she sat down whilst he ordered for them. She got her phone out so she could check on Nora.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Nora. I was just wondering how you were. You get enough sleep?"

"Yeah. I was gonna order food but I can wait for you if you want."

"No, don't. I'm gonna be late so I'll just see you later."

"Okay. Bye Then."

"Bye."

"Who was that?"

"Just a friend. She's staying with me until she finds a place."

"Oh. Well, I've seen some great places around here."

By the time Rebekah finally got home she was worn out and ready for sleep.

"So, I was late because of Nate. Nora was here, eating KFC. Which I might be slightly jealous of. And you were late because....?"

"Greg."

"Did you screen him first.?"

"Nope."

"What happened?"

"He's an architect. Who should marry a building. Not a woman."

"Oh, another good one."

"John seemed nice.2

"What John?"

"The one you work with."

"Oh, yeah. He said he met you. He got a good strap, or so he says. He was all excited because he'd got a date. Someone he'd met at The Book Shop. A customer. I thought she seemed as dull as anything. A girl version of the type of guy you seem to date."

"Good, good."

Rebekah was formulating a plan. What book did she need? Something that made her seem romantic. P.S I Love You. No, that said she was ready to let her man die. The Phantom Of The Opera. No, that said she wanted her man to be a scary but entrancing murderer. She hated things like this. She would sleep on it. And sleeping wasn't going to be hard, she just had to remember what Greg had said. She was soon out and the next day was quickly upon her and she counted down the hours, minutes, seconds until her lunch break. And as soon as it started she was out of the door and in The Book Shop. She could see John at the counter, reading a magazine. She slipped towards the romance section, not quite ready for his attention. She sighed. She couldn't pick. She carried on walking around the shop. She soon came across a book that caught her attention. Looking For JJ. She picked it up and headed over to the counter. john looked up and smiled.

"Hey, Rebekah. Nice choice."

"You've read it?"

"Only one. But I enjoyed it."

"Well, it looked worth a read."

"Who was your friend in Starbucks yesterday?"

"He wasn't a friend. Who was yours?"

"That's £5.99. Thankfully she wasn't a friend. Who knew one person could know as many facts about silk?"

"Oh dear. Well, I better get back."

Rebekah handed John the money and headed out the door.

 "Wait!"

Rebekah turned around to see John running up to her.

 "I was just wondering......."

"Yeah?"

"If we can go to Starbucks as "friends" and not talk about silk?"

"That sounds good. I'll meet you there after work?"

"Sounds good."

Rebekah smiled and walked to the cafe to get her lunch. Maybe this one might go right. She turned on her music and sang along.

"We all have a story to tell."
