Chapter 33- Relief

-Emma-

My heart was racing a mile a minute and my palms were sweaty with anxiety. My whole body shook with unsettling nerves. This shouldn't have happened, I was suppose to take the bullet not him. Why did he jump in front of me? Why couldn't he just let it be?

I was currently waiting in the emergency room of the city's hospital. Just being here just makes my nerves skyrocket. Waiting patiently for the results, but the waiting was much more dreadful then the news that would come. I kept replaying the scene over and over again in my head, so many things I could have done from keeping this from happening, but yet I did nothing, not a thing.

I felt a hand placed on my shoulder and when I looked up a pair or hazel eyes met my own green ones. "Hey, it's going to be alright sweetheart. Don't worry, I bet he's okay." Aiden said taking my hand into his own.

I rested my head onto his shoulder. "Aiden, you saw the amount of blood and you saw the immense pain he was in. What if he was not alright? God, this is my fault. I should have known that he would do something like this."

"No one knows, Emma." He said stroking the top of my hand with his thumb. "Life is full of the unknown."

I sighed and looked over to the side of me and saw Ashley sitting at one of the chairs in the waiting room. "I'll be back." I said standing up. "Just give me a few minutes." I walked over to where Ashley was sitting and took the empty seat that was next to her. We were silent for a few moments until I broke the silence. "Thank you." I said.

Ashley turned her head towards me with a raised eyebrow. "I know we're not the best of friends. I know we have mutual hatred towards each other. But thank you, you saved my life by telling Aiden what you saw happened in the parking lot."

"I'm that big of a bitch as people put me out to be. I don't like you but that doesn't mean I was going to stand there and watch that happen and not do anything about. I am human after all." She said.

I nodded. "I really appreciate it. So thanks Ashley, I owe you."

"Well, there is one way you can repay me." She said smirking and I automatically knew it was moving towards the topic of Aiden.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Be safe." She said which shocked me completely. "You, Aiden and everyone else just be safe." Ashley said standing up and I nodded.

"You don't want to stick around for the results?" I asked.

"I already know the results." She said giving me a wink and a small smile. "Take care Emma. See you in school."

"You too, Ashley." I said returning her smile.

"Oh, this doesn't me I like you." She said. "This just means I hate you just a little less."

I laugh slightly. "I wouldn't have it any other way." With one last smile Ashley turned and walked out of the hospital's emergency room. I stood up and walked over to where Aiden was and sat back down in my original seat. "Where's everyone else?" I asked clearly I wasn't paying attention to what was going on around since I got here.

"They went to get some coffee and to call their parents." Aiden said grabbing a hold of my hand again and I nodded.

"How are you feeling?" I asked Aiden. Since we've got here he's been worried at me and the results but I haven't asked him how he was doing.

"I'm okay, but I will be better when I know the results." He said and I leaned over and kissed his cheek softly.

"Thank you for saving me." I said softly.

"I would do it again if I have too sweetheart." He said putting his arm around my shoulders pulling me into his embrace. Aiden and I sat like that for a few minutes until we heard approaching footsteps. When I looked up I was beyond shocked to see who was entering the emergency room. Mr. and Mrs. Black caught sight of Aiden and I and scurried towards us. When Aiden looked up to see who it was he was also shocked, probably more shocked then I was. Aiden and I stood up from our seats when they approached us.

"Oh honey. Why didn't you call us?" Mrs. Black said pulling me into her embrace.

"I-It slipped our minds." I stuttered out and it really did. I didn't even think about calling our parents and telling them what happened. I was too worried about what was going to happen.

She let go of me and went over to Aiden and pulled him into her embrace. His dad pulled me into a side hug. "Um, how did you guys know?" I asked a bit curiously.

"The hospital called us and told us. They knew who Aiden was since he would end up here sometimes due to him getting into a fights and such so they called us and told us that he was here, who he was here with and what happened.." His father said and I nodded. "We called your parents also. They're on their way over hear as we speak."

I sighed and sat back down. "How is he doing?" Mrs. Black asked as she sat down on the other side of me.

"We don't know yet. The doctors rushed him into a room and I haven't heard or seen anything since." I said.

"Have you called his family yet?" I nodded.

"That's the first thing we did when we got here. They should be here soon." She nodded. When I glanced at the side of me I saw that Aiden's face was emotionless and he didn't look to happy to see his parents. "Talk to your parents and tell them what happened." I said leaning over whispering to him. "They need their son now and you need your parents. I'm going to go see if they have heard anything yet." I said standing up. Aiden didn't say anything but only nodded. He's finally trying.

I walked up to the desk and asked one of the nurses if they have any new information. She answered with a 'no sorry, not as of right now.' I was honestly getting frustrated that no one knew what was going on, I wanted to scream and punch something, but I had to be patience and just hope for the best. A few minutes later everyone was seated and waiting quietly for the results, our friends had returned and our families has arrived and now by our sides.

"Are you the friends and family of the patient?" A doctor around his four ties with blonde colored hair and blue eyes asked. We all stood up when we heard that.

"Yes." I answered quickly anxious for the results as everyone else.

"Well." The doctor said flipping through the pages on his clipboard. "The patient is perfectly fine." He said with a smile. When I heard that I felt a weight on my shoulders being lifted and that I could finally breathe. "The bullet hit his hip, no major damage. He's lucky thought, a few more inches up and it would have hit him right in the abdomen area which could have caused critical damage. We took the bullet out and stitched him up, good as new. Visitors are allowed, two a time though." The doctor said and we nodded in understanding. "I just need the parents to fill out some paperwork for insurance and such, but that can be dealt with later on." With that, the doctor bid us a goodbye.

"Emma, you should go in." Amy said and I nodded grabbing her hand.

"We should go in." I said and she nodded with a small smile on her lips. Amy and I walked down the hallway passing a few doors till we reached the one we were looking for. Opening the door, Amy and I stepped in the room. It was a plain and simple room, there were a few windows, a nightstand that had flowers on it and a bed. I glanced up to see him looking back with a grin on his face and I couldn't help but grin back as he sat up in the bed. His light brown almost dark blonde hair was swept across his forehead a bit and his blue eyes sparkled a bit. I scurried over to his hospital bed and threw my arms around his neck. "Nick, if you ever do that again I will drop kick you to another country." I said hugging him.

Nick let out a chuckle. "Such a nice way to greet an injured person." He said as I pulled away. Amy hugged her brother and when she pulled away I saw unshed tears at the rim of her eyes. We sat down on chairs near his bed.

"How are you feeling?" Amy asked wiping away her a few tears that escaped.

"Well," Nick said and used his arms to move himself higher up on the bed. He winced a bit from the pain. "My hip hurts like hell, but I'll live."

"If you weren't in pain I would smack you for doing what you did." I said softly look down at my lap, I could feel the tears forming in my eyes.

"Emma." Nick said grabbing my hand and placing it in his. "I've always told you and Amy that no matter what I will protect you guys. Don't blame yourself for this, I did this to me because I wanted to save you." Nick stroked the top of my hand with his thumb. I used my other hand and wiped away my tears. "What happened after I was shot? I was in too much pain to try and focus on what was going on."

"After you 'bravely' took the bullet for me." I started to say and rolled my eyes playfully which caused Nick to grin. I might tease Nick and call him stupid for what he did, but the truth is I will always be grateful for what he did. "Mark didn't think that anyone would shoot him after that bullet was shot, but when I was on ground trying to stop the bleeding from you, Aiden shot two bullets straight at Mark. One hit his left shoulder and the other hit his right leg causing him to fall to the ground in pain. A few of Mark's men came in and started to throw punches towards Aiden and Derek while Mia was helping me with you. But Aiden and Derek being bad boys kicked ass, they knocked out most of Mark's men. out and did some serious damage to the others."

"Aiden was clever." Amy picked up. "Before you guys went into the warehouse he told me that if you guys were not out in ten minutes to call 911. When ten minutes passed I did what he asked. After I got off the phone, I heard the first gun shot. Then I knew I did the right thing. I wanted to run in and see what happened and who was shot. But I never thought it was you." A sob broke through Amy and I wrapped my arm around her shoulders pulling her into a comforting side hug.

"The police and ambulance came around five minutes later after you were shot." I said. The police arrested Mark and his men after his bullets were removed. They searched the building and found boxes of drugs and weapons and took it in as evidence. You were rushed to the hospital before the search though. After the police took our statements we all rushed to the hospital too. Let me tell you Nicky, not knowing how you were or what condition you were in was the biggest scare I ever had. Please don't do that again." I said as my voice cracked at the end.

"Hey," Nick said opening his arms. "Come here you guys." Amy and I didn't waste anytime, we went straight into Nick's embrace and hugged him tightly. "I love you guys."

"Love you too." Amy and I said. We stayed in his embrace for a few more minutes and when we pulled away I wiped away my fallen tears and gave Nick a smile.

"When are you getting out of here?" I asked.

"Tomorrow. The doctor wants me to stay the night just in case." He said and I nodded.

"Well, when you get out and feeling better we're doing something fun."

"Paintballing." Nick said grinning and I rolled my eyes.

"Nicky, I will beat your ass in that."

Nick scoffed. "No way, Emmy."

"I will. I have my partner in crime with me." I said resting my arm onto Amy's shoulder.

"Yup, we're gonna kick your ass." Amy said grinning. We stayed a few minutes arguing about who would win and why. We finally came to the conclusion that when Nick came out we were going paintballing with the guys verses the girls and whoever wins has to buy the winning team food for one whole day.

"I will see you on the paintball field. No backing out" I said to Nick.

Nick gave me a lopsided smile. "I wouldn't miss it for the world." Amy and I bid Nick a good-bye telling him we would see him tomorrow and walked out of the room towards our friends and families. I walked over to Aiden, Derek and Matt. "He fine, but he wants to see you guys." I said smiling at them, I didn't see Amy's parents they probably went to go fill out the paperwork so Amy and I thought sending in the guys would be fine.

"But it's only two at a time." Derek said.

I rolled my eyes. "You call yourselves bad boys, sneak in my friend."

Derek glared at me playfully but did as I said, the guys went in to visit Nick as I went up to my parents and left Amy talking to Mia. "Hi." I said as I stood in front of them, I knew the yelling was coming. My parents looked up to me and stood up pulling me into their arms.

"Why didn't you say anything? Why didn't you tell us?" My mother said in a calm tone but I heard her voice crack at the end.

"I-I'm sorry, I didn't know what to say or how to say it." I said in surprise that they weren't yelling.

"Emma, you should know that you can come to us with anything." My dad said as they pulled away and looked me straight in the eyes and I nodded.

"You guys aren't mad?" I asked gingerly.

"No, we're a bit mad, but we're more happy that you're safe." My mom said just as I heard approaching footsteps. I looked back and saw the boys had returned.

"Boys." My dad said capturing their attention. "Come here for a moment." Oh no, here comes the yelling and blaming. I knew it was too good to be true.

When the guys came up they all had nervous looks on their faces. "Thank you for saving Emma." My father said with a smile on his face. I bet our faces mirrored each other with shocked and our jaws were on the ground, well mine was. "I'm glad she has such great friends in her life to risk their own to save her. Especially you Aiden." I glanced over to Aiden to see him blink a few times trying to comprehend what my dad was saying.

"N-not a problem, sir." Aiden said still shocked.

"Call me James." My dad said giving each of them a hug and so did my mom. Obviously they were grateful that these bad boys saved me and so was I. After Mia went in and visited Nick we decided to go out and get something to eat. We told our parents that we each meet them at home and they said that was fine that they was no need to stay any longer. It's funny how each parent said the same thing, parents do think alike.

"How did things go with your parents?" I asked Aiden as we walked down the hospital hallway towards the doors that led out to the parking lot, the others were ahead of us.

"Good." He said with a faint smile on his lips. "I took your advice and told them everything about Mark. After I was done they just hugged me and told me they were sorry that they weren't there for me. I mean it will take time to get back to normal with my parents, whatever normal is. But I'm willing to try and I have to thank you for that Emma. Without you I don't have a clue what I would have done." Aiden said and I smiled leaning over and gave him a sweet kiss to which he returned. "I love you."

"I love you too." I said grabbing a hold of his hand and interlacing our fingers as we walk towards Matt's SUV.

We decided to go to our local diner to get something to eat. When we all were seat and had our food in front of us I couldn't help but look around the table at my friends. All of them laughing, smiling and telling jokes. Just a few months ago it was just Amy and I and no one else, maybe Nick every once and awhile. Never in a million years would have thought that just bumping into Aiden in the hallway would have led to all of this. Never would I have thought that I would be dating Aiden Black, the bad boy, or become friends with Derek and Matt even Mia. Or be thrown into his world of craziness that consist of one dangerous drug dealer. But in all honesty I wouldn't change any of it for the world because it all came with loving this one stubborn, annoyingly gorgeous, but sweet and caring bad boy.

Aiden grabbed my hand and winked at me giving me one of his signature smirks when he notice I was looking at him.

Did I mention he was annoying?
