This is my first Fan Fiction! It's about the Mauraders and their last year of school up. I really hope you enjoy it and if I make any mistakes I would appreciate it if you could tell me so I can fix it. This is based on the Harry Potter series and most characters belong to the amazing J.K. Rowling.

Prologue – “We’re going to Hogwarts!”

A young boy with light brown hair stood alone on the platform waiting for the scarlet train he had always dreamed about boarding but never believing it to become reality. Although he was clearly excited – his legs so bouncy anyone passing-by thought he was about to wet himself – he couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable. Everyone around him was wearing clean, casual clothes but he had already changed into his uniform so no-one could see the shabby clothes his mother spent all night darning for him. His mother was standing a few feet away talking happily to another woman who was surrounded by about twelve children while his father talked to an older man who was with his wife and what looked like a grandson.

His mother called him over with the happy smile that graced her face so easily and he walked briskly to her. “Remus, this is Olivia. One of her girls, Tasmin, is starting her first year of Hogwarts with you.” Remus’ mother pointed out the short girl with fiery red hair who was chasing two of the younger boy’s. An older girl, though not by much, had a baby on her hip and with extreme skill grabbed the speeding girl by the scruff of her neck and pulled her close to her. She whispered something and the younger girl began to pout.

“Tasmins a bit wild, she’s always getting into trouble. But I think most of the time she’s just trying to get the younger kids out of trouble.” The woman said with a shake of her head and a wide smile.

“How many children do you have?” Remus’ mother said as she put her arm around Remus’ shoulders.

“I don’t have any children myself. These are the kids from my Orphanage, there are thirteen.” Olivia said with a sad smile.

“Are you a Muggle? I didn’t know there were Wizarding Orphanages.” Remus’ mother replied excitedly, it wasn’t often she met fellow Muggles in the Wizarding world.

“No I’m a Witch, so are all of the children, though lots of them are Muggle born.”

Remus heard his name being called and looked over to see his father beckoning him. He untangled himself from his mother who was talking animatedly with the other woman and jogged over to his father. “Charlus Potter, this is my son Remus Lupin.” Mr Lupin smiled proudly, delighted that his son was going to be going to Hogwarts. Mr Potter grabbed his unsuspecting son and introduced him.

“This is James, my son.” James, a little annoyed at being dragged away gave a short laugh and ran a hand through his ebony hair. Remus was a little surprised, having earlier though that James was Mr Potter’s grandson.

There was a short blast from the train signalling for the students to get on. Remus gave his father a hug and ran over to his mother to say good bye. She enveloped him in a suffocating hug and he noticed Tasmin and the older girl giving each child a hug goodbye and the two of them wrapping their arms around Olivia before climbing onto the train. Remus broke from his mother and she began to cry softly as she watched her only child leave until Christmas. Mr Lupin took her hand and the last thing Remus saw before disappearing on the train was the look of pure love they shared. Having already put his trunk into a compartment Remus went to find it.

Tasmin followed Savannah half way up the train until she turned and faced her with a warm smile. “You wanna join me?” Savannah asked as she nodded to the compartment that held all of her friends eagerly awaiting her. Tasmin thought for a minute before shaking her head.

“I think I’ll look for some first years, try and make some new friends you know?” Savannah looked hesitant before nodding.

“Okay, but remember to get into your robes and be polite, here’s some money if you want some sweets, but don’t eat too much or you’ll get sick and besides you still have the feast and-“ Tasmin laughed as Savannah rambled.

“I’ll be fine; if I need you I know where you are. Besides, you’re in third year you don’t want me hanging around you.” Savannah smiled and went into her friends but she watched as Tasmin went up two more compartments before seeing one with only one boy in it.

It was the boy from the platform whose mother was talking to Olivia. He was silently reading a book and she knocked on the sliding door. His head snapped up and he gave her a small smile. Tasmin stepped into the compartment and stuck her hand out to him. “I’m Tasmin Green. Do you mind if I sit here?” Remus took her hand gently and shook his head.

“I’m Remus Lupin.” Tasmin sat down across from him and leaned her head against the window. Remus began to read his book again when the compartment door slide open to reveal two boys. Remus recognised the shorter of the two as James Potter. The other boy was a full head taller and just sauntered in and flopped onto the seat beside Tasmin. James shook his head and smiled.

“Hey Remus,” James grinned, he turned to Tasmin gave her an awkward wave. “I’m James.” Tasmin smiled and waved back.

“Tasmin.” The other boy looked between the two of them and put his hands behind his head, careful not to mess up his chin length coal black hair.

“Sirius.”

“What’s serious?” Tasmin asked in confusion.

“My name is Sirius Black.” Tasmin tried hard not to smile but she failed. After a few minutes she started to laugh, it then became hysterical and she felt the tears cascade down her face. James joined her and Remus started to chuckle. Sirius shook his head before throwing his head back and let out a laugh like a bark. Their random laughter was cut short when a pretty, petite red-haired. She looked upset and Tasmin scooted over to let her sit down. The boys kept laughing and talking and when the young girl sat down she pressed her face against the window. She sat frozen in that position for half an hour before the door slide open for what Tasmin hoped to be the last time. The compartment was very crowded.

In walked a short, painfully thin, greasy black haired boy. He ignored everyone and sat across from the small girl.

“I don’t want to talk to you,” she said in a constricted voice.

“Why not?”

“Tuney h - hates me. Because we saw that letter from Dumbledore.”

“So what?”

She threw him a look of deep dislike.

“So she’s my sister!”

“She’s only a –“He caught himself quickly; the girl, too busy trying to wipe her eyes without being noticed, did not hear him.

“But we’re going!” he said, unable to suppress the exhilaration in his voice. “This is it! We’re going to Hogwarts!”

She nodded, mopping her eyes, but in spite of herself, she half smiled.

“You’d better be in Slytherin,” said the boy. James, who had shown no interest at all in the quiet conversation until that point, sneered.

“Who wants to be in Slytherin? I think I’d leave, wouldn’t you?” James asked Sirius, who didn’t smile.

“My whole family have been in Slytherin,” he said.

“Blimey, and I thought you seemed all right!”

Sirius grinned.

“Maybe I’ll break the tradition. Where are you heading, if you’ve got the choice?”

James lifted an invisible sword.

“’Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart!’ Like my dad.”

The greasy haired boy let out a small, disparaging noise making James turn on him. “Got a problem with that?”

“No, if you’d rather be brawny than brainy –“

“Where’re you hoping to go? Seeing as you’re neither,” Sirius interjected. Tasmin glowered at him, how would he know? The two boys weren’t being very nice and a quick look at Remus showed Tasmin that, although he appeared to be reading, his eyes were trained on the one spot. James was roaring with laughter and the ginger girl sat up, rather flushed, and looked from James to Sirius in distaste.

“Come on Severus, let’s find another compartment.”

“Ooooooo …” James and Sirius imitated her lofty voice; James tried to trip Severus as he passed.

“See ya, Snivellus!” a voice called, as the compartment door slammed.

*

Tasmin was shocked. The castle was magnificent and the boat journey was beautiful. She was standing in a large room with all of the other first years as a tall, stern looking woman began to tell them the procedure of the sorting hat. Tasmin started to shake a little from her nerves and she felt an arm snake around her shoulders. She turned to see Remus smiling down at her and she gave a weak smile in return. The woman turned and barked at them to follow her.

They followed her into the Great Hall, which silenced the chatter of the children. Everything was mesmerising from the ceiling replicating the sky to the thousands of floating candles to the tattered hat on a three legged stool to the four house tables. Tasmin could see Savannah sitting with her friends, the large green and silver tapestry with a giant serpent on it hanging overhead. Tasmin felt a pang of guilt as she remembered the scene on the train and how she didn’t defend her sister’s house. After all, Savannah had been defending Tasmin since she arrived at the orphanage when she was three. Tasmin could still remember the day when she was eight and she had missed her family. Savannah had held her as she cried and told her that she was her family, that they were sisters.

Everyone began clapping and Tasmin was brought back to the present. Seeing her confused look Remus leaned into her and whispered in her ear, “The hat sprang to life and sang. Where every you were must have been good.” He smiled when he pulled back and Tasmin copied it, glad she had already made a friend who wasn’t laughing at her little ‘away with the fairies’ moment as Olivia called it when she spaced out.

The tall, stern woman – Professor McGonagall – pulled out a scroll and began the sorting with “Archibald, Xavier.” The hat spent a full minute before screaming out “Ravenclaw!” as the sorting progressed Tasmin and Remus became more and more nervous. The boy from the train called Sirius was called up and when the hat was placed on his head he looked really grumpy. The hat stayed on his head for a few seconds before shouting “GRYFFINDOR!” and Sirius smiled widely, looking relieved that he was safe from the dreaded Slytherin house.

“Evans, Lily,” was called out and Tasmin noticed it was the ginger girl from the train who had been crying. The hat didn’t take long and when it made its decision Lily was greeted to thunderous applause from her new, Gryffindor house. It soon came to Tasmins turn and Remus gave her hand one last squeeze before she shakily made her way up to the small three legged stool. The hat was placed on her head and she nearly shouted when she heard a voice.

“So much potential, you’re smart. Ravenclaw would be fitting. Yet, you’re more cunning which would be perfect for Slytherin. Too bad you don’t have the cold heart. Better be GRYFFINDOR!” the hat yelled out the last bit and Tasmin saw the entire Gryffindor table bang on the table and floor to make as loud clapping as they could. She looked over to Savannah and saw that she was the only person in Slytherin standing up and clapping.

Tasmin made her way to the table and Lily made room for her to sit down, giving her a small hug as she congratulated her. By the end of the sorting Remus and James had joined her along with a small rat like boy who introduced himself as Peter Pettigrew. The feast was like nothing any of them had before and they all went to bed with their stomachs fit to burst.
