Kee had been excited when her father told her about Young Justice. She got to work with Robin and Kid Flash for real now! And who else would she meet, would there be any girls on the team? She sincerely hoped there would be, she couldn't be the only female in a sea of guys!
Her dad was setting up the Zeta beam, Batman standing beside him. They were about to beam down to Mount Justice, where she'd meet her team who'd be there waiting when she appeared.She was practically vibrating in excitement, just like Wally usually did.
" Stop squirming around Kee, you'll achieve lift off," Hal scolded lightly, but a proud smile was on his face.
Kee smirked and stood close to her dad, absolutely beaming in her new uniform.
It had been her own design, and with the help of her dad and the overexcited Black Canary, they'd managed to create her superhero uniform.
She was currently garbed in a black bodysuit with tall black boots, adorned with silver buckles. She wore a silver belt where a knife was hidden, a small emergency button behind her new symbol. What she loved most however, was the midnight blue cloak she wore, that billowed behind her when she walked.
On her chest was her symbol, a silver, capitol E in a circle.
She was absolutely ecstatic, and the silver domino mask over her eyes made her feel so secretive, almost like a spy.
She knew her father was nervous, he obviously didn't like letting his daughter out of his site armed with some wickedly sharp knives by her sides. She could tell he was nervous because he kept squeezing her shoulder in reassurance, when in reality, it was him who needed comforting.
The Zeta beam activated with a whir of light and sound, and with pure delight she heard their names announced, and her eyes were filled with a view of her new team.
Young Justice members were standing casually in the transport room, ready to meet their new member. No one had been told anything, other than the new member's mentor was Green Lantern. Although Robin and KF knew the real truth.
" Oooohhh, do you think they'll be nice?" Meghan enthused happily from her spot next to Connor.
" I'm sure that our new member will be kind, Meghan," Kaldur calmed, trying to sooth the easily excited girl.
The Zeta beam whirred to life.
" Batman A01, Green Lantern A05, Elementum B07," The mechanical voice announced.
And there they were, Batman looking as brooding as ever, stepped down from the platform and stopped short near Robin. Green Lantern followed him, assisting a much smaller person down from the platform. The two turned to face the team and there she was, Elementum.
With a small wave, and a shy smile she broke them out of their haze of surprise. For she was so small, so petit in size, and when she walked there was the sound of a dull metal ringing.
Kaldur was the first to greet her, sliding forward and holding out a webbed hand to her.
" Greetings Elementum, I am Aqualad, leader of Young Justice. Welcome to the team," Kaldur introduced, ever polite.
Elementum stared at him for a few moments, the eyes behind the domino mask wide with awe, before she timidly took his much bigger hand and shook it firmly. However, Kaldur was puzzled by her lack of answer or speech of any kind.
" HI! I'm Meghan Mor'orz, but you can just call me Meghan. I'm so excited to meet you!" The martian yipped excitedly, skipping the hand shake in favor of an all out hug that almost squeezed the life out of poor Kee.
When the martian finally stopped chattering, and Kee was able to finally breathe again, the next member came to great her.
" Hey, I'm Artemis, it's cool to have another girl on the team," The blonde archer greeted, shaking her hand as well.
Superboy didn't do contact, so he settled for just introducing himself and waving slightly. Kee already knew the other two so they didn't bother introducing themselves, however, Wally zoomed over and rustled her hair affectionately, causing her to squeak in surprise. And after a fist bump from Robin, Kee decided it was time to greet them back.
' Hello, I am Elementum, protégée of Green Lantern ' Kee signed with a smile.
Meghan didn't understand what she was trying to say, and it took her a few moments to even realize what their new member was doing. Superboy, with his Cadmus knowledge filled her in quietly, and Artemis didn't understand all of it, however a few words she did know.
Kaldur had studied sign language when he came to the surface, in an effort to understand everyone he might have to talk to.
" We welcome you, and if Batman has no current missions for us I will show you your room if you ever decide to stay here," Kaldur offered.
Kee nodded happily and with a quick hug to Green Lantern and a wave to Batman she moved to stand in between Aqualad and Kid Flash.
" There are no current missions, team dismissed," Batman grunted, before wandering back on to the zeta platform, Green Lantern following him with only a few glances back at his protégée.
" Meet me back here in six hours," Green Lantern ordered.
Elementum nodded dutifully and watched her mentor leave with a loud announcement.
' I thought he would never leave,' she signed, a smirk playing on her lips.
Robin cackled with laughter. " Neither did I ".
The team started to drift away, leaving her with the significantly taller Kaldur Ahm who cast her a reassuring smile.
He's cute. So absolutely cute. Well, not cute, more like totally hot! Oh, wait, please don't let him have telepathy, that would be so embarrassing. Oh gosh, he's so tall, and that hair is so cool. Ugh, snap back to reality Keelan, he'll think you're dumb or something.
' So, are you from Atlantis?' Kee asked curiously.
Kaldur smiled down at her as he led the way through the many halls.
" Yes, I am from Atlantis and I still visit it often," He answered fondly, although he was a bit pained as thoughts of Tula and Garth surfaced.
Chucking the thoughts away he decided to focus instead on the young girl trailing obediently beside him.
" Your mentor is Green Lantern, are you a part of the corps too?" he asked curiously.
The girl let out a short laugh that sounded incredibly strange to his ears before replying accordingly.
' No, I definitely don't do the whole lantern thing. I am his daughter actually, the whole mentor apprentice thing is a total ruse. ' Kee signed, still chuckling every now and then.
" My apologies for insinuating wrong. I did not know that Hal Jordan was your father. And your powers?" Aqualad apologized, still utterly polite.
' Well, even I do not entirely know what they entail, but so far I seem to be able to create and wield the elements. Apparently I was born with them ' Kee signed, a little awkwardly.
Soon they'd reached her room, and Kaldur held the door for her.
" Welcome, this will be where you stay when you stay at the mountain. You may decorate as you wish," Aqualad welcomed, gesturing to the plain room.
Kee giggled and launched herself at the bed, flopping on it happily, and promptly ripping off her mask. Aqualad laughed softly at her childish antics, but was curious as to why she was taking off her mask.
She looked up at him from her upside down position, revealing bright brown eyes blinking up at him through thick lashes. Her eyes looked like they told a thousand tales, filled with both excitement and a small twinge of sorrow not befitting her age.
" Does your father want you to reveal your identity?" Aqualad asked cautiously.
She shrugged, sitting up and blowing her hair out of her face.
' He just said villains could not know. You aren't a villain, at least I think you aren't. My name is Keelan Jordan, but you can call me Kee,' Kee signed, jumping up only to trip on the end of her cloak.
Kaldur lunged forward and caught her as she tripped, grasping her shoulders tightly and righting her, allowing her to get her feet under her again.
' Sorry, I'm not used to my uniform yet ' Kee signed, cheeks flushed in embarrassment.
Kaldur chuckled, leading the way out of the room again.
" You will be soon, but for now I believe I can smell Meghan's cooking. Let us reconvene with the rest of the team," Aqualad calmed her, soothing her embarrassment.
Together, they sauntered out in to the hallways, and neither commented when Aqualad walked slightly closer to Kee than before, but of course he was just being protective.
