Greying skin

Ava couldn't help but feel guilty.
It was her who doomed Rebekah mikealson to a fate worse then death.

A life of darkness.

Her body never started moving to signal breath, and the greying skin caressing the sibling only proved avas thoughts further.

It came to realisation that Esther mikealson was not killed during the battle between blood. Nor had klaus explained why not to the furious vampire son he had acquired or to the girl who just wanted relief.

So instead of worrying yet another attack would be performed on her by one of many mikealson enemy's- blood or blade -Ava stayed with the lifeless corpse of Rebekah to recall the last morsel of humanity Ava felt within herself.

She had watched death before.

She had been behind a knife.
She had bared the brunt of curses- unknowing of course.

But it never subsided the fact at that moment; as Rebekah laid peaceful in her coffin, Ava knew her rest would be far from tranquil.

"So." A soft voice called down the room; notifying the girl who watched over the sleeping vampire.

Ava hummed a response, ignoring the concerned look she received from her sister. It suddenly made Ava self conscious, her hand quickly rubbing away any signs of whatever the hell she had just gone through away.

The bags underneath her eyes, however, still draped down her cheeks. And her skin no longer resembled the same peach complexion as it did previously; Instead her body shone a greyish white hue.

Silently, Camille walked further into the room and handed Ava one of the two glasses filled with bourbon.

The stench of alcohol immediately bubbled up a smile from the smaller oconnell, the liquid instantly touching her lips and gliding down her parched throat.

"You and klaus huh..." Cami chuckled as if she should have seen it coming. But when the words registered with Ava her eyebrows knitted together and the drink still lurking in her lips sprayed across the room.

"What?" Ava laughed, dragging her hand across her lips to get rid off the bitter stickiness attached to her skin.

"You two have been very close recently. Nights spent here..." Cami started, and instantaneously being cut of by Ava.

"Nights spent on the couch.
Whatever happened before I basically died for the second time in my life- that was because I nearly died for the second time in my life. Nothing else." Ava informed her sister, resenting each negative word to leave her tongue.

Did she wish that it was something else?
And if she did, surely she needed one hell of a reality check.

*****

Ava could barely sleep.

Every time she closed her eyes, the darkness would drown her into an oblivion she was far from enjoying.

So when she finally fell into the darkness without gasping awake, Ava convinced herself whilst in her slumber- someone had drugged her.
And when her hearing finally began to hum back to life, her suspicions only heightened.

A low shudder of an engine clicked underneath her, thudding in a continuous rhythm as the vehicle spluttered forward.

Ava groaned as her head throbbed along with the mechanical song threading through the air.

She must be in a car.

Her vision was blurred as her eyelids rapidly blinked to cohere her vision, fast colours darted down what she could only assume as a highway.

"Ah Sleeping Beauty has finally awoken from her 100 year long slumber. Good rest, love?" A British voice softly drifted through the air.

Ava was immediately alerted, her vision finally slotted into place with quickly forming objects and blistering honks from further up the road.

"What's going on?" Ava murmured as she rubbed her eyes once again, the figure lighting up from the road lights pooling through the glass to reveal a smug looking hybrid.

"We're going on a little road trip, love." He answered nonchalantly as they turned off the busy road and onto a narrow path.

"Hold on..."

Ava paused.

"You abducted me?!" She finally screamed her aggravation, her gaze darting around for any more welcoming faces. Camille was nowhere.

"Well, when you put it like that avangaline it does seem quite exciting don't you think." Klaus laughed, the dimples in his cheeks deepening with each intake of breath.

She paused quickly to take in his words. Her eyes hovering over each of his smug aspects, he was enjoying this far too much.
Although, she could tell something was off- something much greater was going on.

His hands groped the steering wheel; only to turn his knuckles white.
His chest would pause for a mere moment as if he had forgotten to breath- deep in thought.
And the way he assessed the road, awaiting someone to come was unsettling.

"No I think you're insane! Where's my sister?" Ava yelled back at the hybridisation of a man, a scowl firmly painted on her face.

"Lie to yourself all you like, love. I know you like the adrenaline." He chuckled, flashing her a fast smirk before gazing back toward the road.

Her fingers carefully slid underneath her phone, ready to press speed dial for her sister- but something held her back.

Maybe she did like the adrenaline after all.

"I would be lying if I said I loved being drugged and chucked in a car to nowhere." She muttered, glaring out toward the scenery that began to fade into the tree line.

The branches danced along with the shallow wind swooping through the air, it was like the sound was a song and each tree couldn't help but move so graciously along. The car began to splutter, dragging Ava from her trance.

"Where are we even going klaus?" She queried as the car jolted forward from the power the man behind the wheel begged for the vehicle to travel at.

The man stayed silent.

"If you're not going to tell me where we are going, Ill just figure it out." Ava continued to bait him into a confession, but the man seemingly just quirked his eyebrow.

She huffed.

It was when she noticed the car travelling at an alarming rate that things began to slot into place.

"We're traveling away from something." She murmured, awaiting the approval only to see an unprovocative gaze glued to the road.

"Or to something." Ava continued, nodding as she saw the flaw in his expression linger.

"To someone. Your mum wanted someone on the inside to find out something; to find out where someone was." Ava slowly assessed klaus again.

His eyes flickered down to his hands and up to the road as the thoughts lingered in his mind. His hands only whitening further from the strength attached to his grip on the steering wheel.

"But who is in danger out of New Orleans that concerns you?
Elijah can handle himself, although he has been different recently- the whole flower scenario happened for him after all.
Rebekah- she's at home asleep if the spell worked correctly.
Hayley- I mean do you really care that much for her?"
Ava rambled as her head span with each person she connected with the hybrid.

It was when the last name rolled off of her tongue she instantly became mute. Her tongue went numb and her eyes bulged with the crystal shade brightening in thought.

Klaus had slowed the car down slightly to listen to avas thought tracking, carefully watching as her fingers recoiled from counting and fell into her lap.

The two were silent for a few seconds as they matched gazes.

"Hope." She whispered so quietly that if it wasn't for vampiric hearing, klaus wouldn't have been able to hear her.

"Your daughters in trouble." The tone her voice came out in was so delicate and guilty that Ava had to gulp down the lump forming in her throat. She had been such a bitch, when after all that klaus still had to be reminded of his baby girl being taken by the new enemy.

The one Ava did not know about.

"And that is why I like you avangaline, nothing gets past you and your inquisitive mindset." Klaus hummed trapping his gaze back on to the car ahead.

"You like me? I thought i was just a plaything as your family have named me." Ava chuckled cynically at her nickname.

She hated that phrase, it was as if she was a compelled doll for niklauses amusements.

The car suddenly swerved and shuddered to a stop at the side of a dusty road. Klaus turned to the girl in disbelief, his blue eyes a cold rage.

"You are not a plaything avangaline. Do not label yourself as such." He demanded, his lips flat and his eyes a blue blaze of anger.

"How can I not when it is a constant theme with your family?" Ava blurted out before she could hesitate. Her eyes matching the ice from his, the air instantly chilling around them.

"By simply ignoring the idiotic bunch of adolescents." Klaus declared angrily, his tone a bitter sweet as he tried to defend the girl.

"We should get back on the road Nic, Hope is waiting." The nickname slipped past her lips before she could comprehend it and her eyes went wide.

Klaus had paused from the name, a sweet reminder of his sister warming the air with her sarcastic wit and fast comments.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean..."
Ava murmured out in fast apologies.

She had over stepped her mark. But as soon as her voice filled the air she was silenced.

Klaus' lips attached to hers.
