I think Chance was getting worse.

At first he wouldn't be so bad in the mornings, but as the day went on he would slowly get more snappy, and upset.

When I walked into math on Wednesday he kind of had this glazed, hopeless look in his eyes, and he kind of went down hill from that.

By Friday he had stopped being mean to other people, but I think what he traded for not being mean was worse.  He had stopped talking to anyone.  Not in an, I'm going to glare at you until you go away, kind of way, but an, I no longer care enough to deal with you, kind of way.

It made me kind of sad.

His appearance was starting to show some of that I don't care anymore look too.  His hair was sticking out in random directions, and his clothes looked like he slept in them the night before.

I was starting to worry about him more, but I still didn't talk to him.

On Friday I was debating talking to him, but I didn't really get around to deciding......

My thoughts were interrupted by my alarm going off, telling me I had to get up, and get ready for the day.

I groaned, and got out of bed.

"You've left him long enough.  You need to talk to him today," Brandy said sliding into the back of the car.

"Agreed," Hero said climbing into the front seat.

"What is with you two, and getting," I started before Brandy cut me off.

"We just think it's not fair to not talk to someone when they are clearly sad about the fact that you won't talk to them, for no other reason than to not talk to them."

"If you don't talk to him I'm going to invite him to your house, and tie you up if you try to stop me from opening the door."

"Harsh.  How long are you giving me?"

"I d'no.  Today?"

"So if I don't talk to him today you'll invite him to my house tomorrow?"

"Yeah.  Let's go with that."

Note to self.  Don't take Hero home tomorrow.

But that might give him enough time to go talk to Chance....

Hm.  That's problematic.

Maybe I could 'forget' to pick up Hero.

But then I would be leaving Brandy, and she hasn't done anything to deserve that.

This sucks.

I pulled my eyes off the road for a second to glare at him, "I will get you for this."

"I'm sure you will, but what ever you do to me won't be nearly as bad as what you're doing to Chance."

I parked, and turned in my seat to glare at him, "You underestimate me."

He raised his eyebrow at me, "I don't think so.  You think I'm too awesome to be mean to me."

"Are you sure?"

"Let me rephrase that.  You don't want to be mean to my sister, so you won't do anything I can't handle.  Plus you need me to work with you on the quarter final for math."

"That can be done solo," I said not letting my glare waver.

"But you're too lazy to do something alone when you don't have to."

I sighed, and opened my door.  He was right, and he knew it.

That sucks.

Curse my laziness.

I think I'm too lazy to do that.

Just like I'm too lazy to pull 'friend' out of quotes when I'm using the word for Hero, and Brandy.  I really should do that.....

I walked inside with just enough time to run to my locker, and make it to my first class.

Looks like I won't be able to talk to Chance until lunch.

I am planning on talking to Chance today.  If I'm going to talk to him I don't want it to be on the terms of my crazy, 'friend', and if I don't talk to him today it won't be on my own terms.

Would Chance really come over to my house if he knew I didn't invite him?

Hero could probably convince him that it was me....

Too bad.....

"Elizabeth!" my teacher yelled making my head jerk up.

"They cut off people's heads," Brandy whispered under her breath.

I'm going to trust her on that.

"They cut off people's heads," I told the teacher.

He glared at me, "With what?"

"The Guillotine," I guessed.

We were talking about the french revolution.  Right?

He glared a little more, but went on with his lesson.

Hurray for good guessing.  He might have caught it if I had Brandy tell me again.

I should probably pay attention now.  He won't like me if I don't listen again.

"Now," Hero said glaring at me.

I smiled at him, "Nope."

"If you don't you know what will happen," he threatened.

"I will..." I said drawing out the word will, "Live my life to its fullest as a happy flying squirrel?"

"No.  That is not what's going to happen."

I think he was going to continue, but I interrupted him, "Does that mean that I'm going to be a...  dog?  Because I would love to be able to bite you, and get away with it."

"Elizabeth!  Give my lunch back!"

"Why?"

"Because he's a growing boy, and he needs his nutrition," Brandy answered.

"You're right.  He is growing.  Have you gone up in pants size lately?" I asked looking at him with curiosity.

"No.  She means I'm getting taller."

"Defensive much?"

"I'm not getting fat!!  Give me my food!"

Looking over at Brandy I could see that she was trying not to laugh, "What do you think Brandy?  Is he putting on weight?"

"I don't know," she said looking thoughtful, "He has been eating more then usual."

"All the more reason to give me my food.  Eating more means that my stomach is growing, and I need more food to be satisfied," Hero protested.

"Maybe we can figure out a workout plan," I suggested.

Brandy nodded her head, "We can do that when we come over tonight."

"If you're going to make me work out I'm going to need all the Calories I can get.  Can I have my food now?"

"We could also come up with a diet plan."

She didn't look so sure about that one, and I knew why, but she confirmed my suspicions a second later, "I don't think it's possible with the whole......" she trialed off.  That wasn't really a sentence she needed to finish though.  I knew what she was talking about.

"You guys can just start eating dinner at my house.  My mom won't care.  In fact she'll be ecstatic."

Brandy had to think about it for a second, but she finally nodded her head, "That'll work."

"I'm going to make you guys help me make the food though.  Three people is a lot to cook for if you're use to only feeding yourself."

"Fair enough."

"Can I have my food back now?"

I looked down at the hand that was still holding the tray as far away from Hero as possible.

"Sure."

"You guys aren't really going to put me on a diet.  Are you?" Hero asked sounding concerned.

"Na.  But that's what you're going to say if anyone asks," I answered, earning a relieved sigh from Hero.

"It's her way of saying she doesn't like to be alone as much as she is," Brandy said looking at her brother.

"Okay.  That's not too bad."

"Hey!" I protested, "I do not feel lonely when I'm at home alone!"

Brandy looked at me, and rolled her eyes, "Just keep telling yourself that."

"I don't." I grumbled, "I just feel bad about your home situation."

"Don't deny it.  You love it when we come over," Hero said after swallowing his first bit.

It's really tempting to take that back.

I think Brandy knew what I was thinking, because she pushed his food further away, and gave me a pointed look.

Hero gave no indication that he was aware of what she was doing, he just turned slightly so he could keep eating.

Looking back at Brandy I could see that she was looking at something behind me.

"What are you looking at?"

She didn't answer.  Instead she just cocked her head to the side, and kept looking at what ever was behind me.

"Earth to Brandy," I said waving my hand in front of her face.

"Who is that?" she asked glancing back at me before going back to staring at the person behind me.

Turning in my seat I looked at a guy with spiky brown hair, and a scowl on his face.  He was tall, but not quite as tall as Chance.  Despite the fact that he was tall, he wasn't lanky.  Like most of the guys at this school he seemed to have more muscles then fat.  He wasn't too bad looking, but really not my type...

"Not sure," I answered her question, " But I'm assuming you call dibs?"

She nodded her head before she seemed to realized what she was doing, "Wait....  What?"

"You call dibs."

"On?...."

"Greenish brown eyed guy that looks like he wants to kill someone."

"Yes."

"Okay."

"Elizabeth?" The guy asked.

"I don't talk to people unless I know their name," I said without turning around.

Might as well let Brandy know the name of the guy she called dibs on.

"Alexander," he said sounding annoyed, "Look I came over here to talk to you about the fact that you've been ignoring..."

"Look," I said cutting him off, "Brandy already called dibs on you, and I don't want to talk to someone who's already been called.  No offense or anything, I just don't want to talk to you."

Brandy started to turn bright red, and she glared at me.

I smiled big at her, and let my amusement show at her discomfort.

It took him a while to continue, but finally he said, "I'm not here to talk to you about that kind of thing.  I'm here to tell you that you need to go talk to..."

I'm sure he kept talking, but I just put in my headphones, and started to make the, 'he's talking too much,' signal with my hands.

"ELIZABETH!!!!" he yelled making me jump in surprise, "Listen!"

"You're worse than the teachers," I mumbled.

"Maybe they had a reason to yell at you!  I don't know why it's making Chance sad that you won't talk to him!  You're juvenile!"

Wow, he's using big words.  Note the sarcasm.

"Am I really being juvenile if you're the one yelling at me?"

"Yes!  You are the one who was being childish, and not listening to a word I was saying!  To add to that, you are the one that won't get over your stupid grudge over nothing against Chance!  That is....."

Suddenly he wasn't talking, and there was the sound of a body being smashed against the wall behind me.

That got my attention more than anything he'd said, and I turned around in my seat quickly.

Chance was holding Alexander with his arm pressed across his windpipe, talking low, and fast.

It was impossible to hear what he was saying, but Alexander was nodding his head, agreeing to what ever Chance was telling him.

As soon as Chance was done he let Alexander go, and spun around, leaving the room with an agitated walk.

What was that?
