2 days later...
Doekjeokdo is a small secluded island located a couple hours away from the mainland, with relaxing beaches and hiking routes. Aira's kind of place. This island provides decent amount of accommodation, and by decent I meant still a lot. I've got the list of people going in and out of the islands and people staying in specifically guest houses within the week.
We got here a day ago and ever since then, we didn't stop looking. I was too busy checking through the names until Jooheon suddenly groaned in frustration
"Ah there's so many names! I feel like my brain might explode", he slumped on the couch as the others sighed deeply
"I'm tired too", Lisa and Minhyuk said in unison
"Then just rest", I sharply cut them off and they eyed me with apologizing look
"You should rest too", Wonho patted my back but I shook my head
"I will. But until then, I won't stop looking", I squinted my eyes couple of times before scanning through the names
01:34 a.m.
It has been an hour since and my eyes were getting droopy, I feel like I might pass out any minute. The rest were pretty tired too. Hyeri and Lisa went back to their hotel room to rest, while the guys and I stayed in Wonho and Shownu's room to keep searching.
Resting my cheek on my palm, I yawned lightly and slowly closed my eyes.
"HYUNG!" I immediately shot my eyes wide open and saw I.M heading towards me through my blurry vision. The others also got startled by I.M sudden yell
"Yah maknae, keep it down. It's like one in the morning", Kihyun yawned and rubbed his eyes. I.M ignored him and looked at me like he just won the noble prize
"Hyungwon hyung, you said you have met almost every family relatives of Aira. Am I correct?"
"Yes, why suddenly..?"
"Do you remember their names?"
"I think so, where is this going?" I took my glasses off and stood up
"Jung Hwamin, does it ring any bell?"
Where have I heard that name before?
"Jung Hwamin? Isn't that the lousy aunt we met at Aira's mom birthday party? The one with bright yellow high heels?"
"Bingo! Her name is registered in one of the guest houses"
"So? It could really be her. I don't want to see her again to be honest"
"ME TOO", Wonho suddenly popped from behind as Jooheon laughed
"I remembered when that aunt of Aira flirted with Wonho hyung like there's no tomorrow. I felt like watching my grandparents", This made the others burst into laughter as Wonho scoffed
"I'm not that old you punk!"
"Aish! All of you this is important, I don't think it's her aunt. Hyung, call Mingyu and ask him about Jung Hwamin"
I did as told and dialed Mingyu's number, thankfully he picked up in matter of seconds
"Hello? Hyungwon hyung?" He clearly was sleeping before picking up, so I tried to sound as calm as possible so I won't disturb him
"Hey Mingyu, I'm really sorry but hyung needs your help with something"
"Sure..", he said with sleepy voice as I smiled
"Thankyou. Do you perhaps remember Aunt Jung?"
"Aunt Jung? As in Jung Hwamin? The tacky aunt?" He yawned a bit while saying that
"Yes! That's the one, I was wondering if she's in Deokjeokdo right now since her name's registered in one of the guest houses"
There was a pause on the other line before Mingyu answered, "That can't be"
"Why not?"
Mingyu yawned once again, "She's in Taiwan for a business trip. My mom just had a phone call with her this evening"
My lips curled up into the biggest smile hearing Mingyu's answer, "Thankyou Mingyu"
I pressed end call button and met the guys stares, "What did he say?"
Grabbing my coat, I was overwhelmed with happiness that I ignored their question
"Hyungwon?" Minhyuk called out as I was opening the door, "Did you find her?"
"I found her"
• Aira's pov •
Another sleepless night,
Eyes were staring at the starry sky while arms placed on the balcony. It has been a week since I left Seoul in hope that I will be able to calm my heart down. But to my dismay, it only become much restless and all I could think about is him
I heard the news, but somehow it made me uneasy. The marriage might be cancelled, but who knows what's inside of his heart? He could mean every word he said to me. I deserved it though, I hurt him badly.
Ring...ring...ring..
The signature iPhone ringtone snapped me back to reality as I took my phone out. Hyungwon has been calling me daily, and consistently. It made me miss him even more, but I don't think I have the gut to hear whatever he wants to say. My heart became stuffy at the thought of him.
You have one voicemail...
With trembling fingers, I clicked the voicemail button and listened carefully
Aira, this is probably the thousandth time I called. You must be feeling really annoyed right now, seeing me bombarding you with calls and texts. But I want to hear your voice, I know it's greedy of me to ask such request. Moreover, after all the hurt and pain I caused you. I want to say I'm sorry and explain everything, please pick up
Ring...ring...ring...
Tears were threatening to flow out but I wiped it instantly. Ignoring his call, I slid my phone back into my pocket and grabbed my coat
I need a walk, a very long walk along the beach
The beach at dawn was always so beautiful, it clears out my mind from unnecessary thoughts as I admired the view. I wanted to have an enjoyable walk, but it was disturbed by the constant ringing from my phone
I furrowed my eyebrows at the caller ID. Why did he keep on calling me?
"Andwae (no way)! Be strong Aira, don't answer him", I firmly reminded myself and stomped my feet on the sand
Ring...ring...ring..
"I'm a strong girl. I can't be weak"
Ring...ring...ring...
"Not falling for it", I crossed my arms
Ring..ring...ring...
"I will throw this phone to the ocean if it rang once again", I dumbly threatened my non-living gadget and surprisingly it stopped
"Oh, it worked?" I flipped my phone and looked at it thoroughly, "It stopped", it came out like a disappointment in my tone but no one except me was there to hear
I walked towards the empty main road, having enough of the walk as the weather got really cold
Suddenly I had goosebumps, I thought it was because of the cold breeze, but it felt more like someone's watching me. But I might be paranoid.
Shivering, I hugged myself and hurriedly walked towards the guest house. My eyes kept looking everywhere for some reason, but there's not many people around. Only a couple of employees in a convenience store and a black audi car parked around the corner. This felt more creepier since I was currently alone but-
Ring...ring..ring...
"Shoot that scared me!" I held my chest out of surprise and looked at my phone
It's Hyungwon again.
My instinct was supposed to be ignoring him, but this time, I had this urge to answer him. Like my heart was telling me to press the green button.
"Should I..?" I bit my lip hard and thought hard about it. My finger pressed the button in a fast manner, making the time showed indicating we're connected
Pressing the phone to my ear, I didn't utter a single word and the voice I had been longing for was heard from the other line
"Oh sh- she picked up! Aira? Can you hear me?!" I bit my lip hard so I won't laugh at his over-excited voice
"Aira", he softly called and it made me tear up, "Baek Aira"
I felt like suffocating when he called my full name which such tone, I missed him so much.
Staying silent, I can hear his deep sigh before saying, "Aira, I perfectly understand if you don't want to speak to me, but can you please let me know if you're listening?"
Again I remained still, "Tap the screen twice for me, Aira", My fingers were heavily trembling but I managed to do it
Tap...tap...
I can feel his smile from the other line as he breathed out in relief, "Hello baby"
Covering my mouth immediately before I let out a sound, I was caught off guard by the way he greeted me. I could hear my heart pounding so loud already
"I know you must be mad, angry, confused and distraught right now. You probably hate me right now", he sadly chuckled
I don't, I can't hate you...
"Life has been a rollercoaster for us, hasn't it? Ah why am I talking like this? You hate people who stall yet look at me doing it. To simply say I'm sorry would be an understatement. The way I treated you, pushed you away and hurt you didn't deserve to be easily forgiven. I was a coward, Aira. I was too afraid to take risks that I ended up hurting you. I can't imagine living without you, but living in a world where you don't exist made me numb. That's why I said those awful words to you, to keep you away so that you will be safe from Mr. Han or anyone that has any intention of hurting you"
My eyes were watering and it caused my vision to be blurry, but I kept on walking very slowly as his enchanting voice was heard
"I didn't mean any word I said to you at the park. I loathed myself after that, I barely slept and no it's not just a cheesy dramatic way to please you. It's the way I felt. I felt restless, you know? I-", he paused, "I miss you so freaking much, Aira. I feel like going crazy"
Me too, Hyungwon
"I keep on thinking why this world won't let me love you? Why can't I be with the one I love? Call me selfish, but I know what my heart wants and it's you. I can't imagine being with anyone else, even on the wedding day, you know what's funny? I kept on imagining you, how beautiful you must be in a white wedding dress, walking towards the altar while I was standing there, waiting for you to be beside me. I'm such an idiot, aren't I?"
A silent sob escaped my mouth, making him gasped. He must've heard it, but he didn't know how hard it was for me to hold these tears. I covered my mouth tightly
"Aira, after everything we've been through, the obstacles we faced, the people we met, yet here we are now. This time, I won't run away again. I won't choose the easy way, I will fight for you with my life. Give me one last chance and I'll prove it to you. I'm sorry-"
The world slowed down at this moment as my knees felt weak
"I love you, Baek Aira. It was you and it has always been you. It will only be you"
I love you too, Chae Hyungwon. You idiot.
Tears fall rapidly from my eyes, nothing can describe the way I'm feeling right now. Every inch of my muscles became numb because of his confession. I wanted to call his name so badly, but I feel like choking on my own tears
"H-Hyung-"
Something made me turned to the left and my eyes were blinded by the bright light coming towards me. Faint screaming was heard from across the street but my body froze,
closing my eyes,
I let the darkness take over.
• Hyungwon's pov •
"I love you, Baek Aira. It was you and it has always been you. It will only be you"
After I said that, a huge relief washed over my nervousness. Finally being able to utter my true feelings to her, I felt relieved, but at the same time anxious because she has been silence all this while. I could hear her silent sobbing but it could be interpreted into many different meanings. She could be overwhelmed with joy or she could be crying because she was terribly upset with me and could hate me even more.
Pressing my phone hard to my ear, I braced myself for everything. There was a long pause and I cursed at how far the guest house was from the hotel I stayed at
"H-Hyung-"
My heart was beating extremely fast when my ear caught her angelic voice. How I missed her voice, I want to have her in my arms again...
"Aira, you...", I was cut off by the sudden disturbing voice from the other line
Clang..clang..
Holding back negative thoughts, I called out her name out of desperation, "A-Aira... answer me pl-"
Suddenly the sound of crashing and tire abruptly frictioned with the road was heard and it made me stopped my car. Tears were falling endlessly as a very bad scenario crossed my mind
No, it can't be. It's not happening, I'm not losing my Aira again.
"Aira-"
