Chapter 8 – Goodbyes
Rein’s P.O.V.
Late na kami nakauwi ni Daniel from his friend’s birthday celebration so we both decided for him to sleep in my house again. Ayoko naman kasi talaga to risk his life dahil we both drank alcoholic drinks din.
“Babe, ang laki talaga nang bahay mo para sayo lang magisa. Why don’t you ask someone to live with you? Kahit yung brothers mo lang?” He asked while we were going up the staircase.
We decided to call each other Babe eversince the no-label-relationship thingy. It’s actually kind of cute since people around us react violently everytime we call each othe Babe. Ang I must say, I think I’m beginning to fall for him although, it’s not really a hundred percent. I just really can’t set a side about Michael and I.
“Ayoko. I’m contented with being alone. Nasanay na din ako.”
Since napakalaki naman din nang master’s bedroom ko, at hindi maayos yung ibang mga kwarto, doon ko nalang din papatulugin si Daniel. Yung master’s bedroom ko kasi sobrang laki. Meron siyang maliit na sala tapos may malaking balcony tapos meron ding dalawang walk-in closet. Basta malaki.
“This must be your bedroom?” He asked me pagkapasok namin. “Ang laki din. I wonder how you can survive here alone. It must be really quiet.” Hindi kasi siya nakapasok dito the first time he stayed overnight.
Nagpaalam muna ako sakanya na magsho-shower muna ako. Nanood muna siya ng TV while waiting for me. Pagkabalik ko, may dala na akong damit na ipapahiram ko sakanya.
“Daniel. Babe.” Pumunta ako sa sofa at nakita kong nakatulog na siya. Ang cute cute niya. Ang sarap pisilin ng ilong. Haha. “Gising ka muna, Babe. Palit ka muna ng damit.”
Gumising naman siya and pumunta sa CR para makapagshower na din at makapagpalit nang damit. Inayos ko muna yung bed. Tabi nalang kami. Ang laki laki naman nang kama ko eh. Pagkalabas niya nang CR, dumiretso agad siya sa sofa at humiga.
“Oi. Bakit ka jan humiga? Dito ka na.”
“Ayoko. Nakakahiya naman sayo.” He told me while his eyes were closed. Antok na antok na talaga ‘to.
“Sige na. Wag na maarte. Babe, lika na dito.”
“Okay lang.” Tapos nag two thumbs-up na sign pa siya. He really is a gentleman.
30 minutes na ang nakakalipas at hindi padin ako makatulog. Si Daniel din halata mong hirap na sa sofa pero ayaw parin tumabi saakin. Haha. Wawa naman.
Pumunta ako sakanya at hinug siya. “Babe, tabi na tayo doon. Hindi ako makatulog. Halata ko naman na nahihirapan ka na jan eh. Okay lang naman na magkatabi tayo, I trust you. Bilis na. Please?”
“Sige na nga. Sabi mo eh.” Then ninakawan niya pa ako nang halik. Binuhat niya pa ako papunta sa bed. How sweet.
Siya unang humiga and then sumandal ako sakanya. He was playing with my hair at wala pa yata siyang balak matulog despite sa kapaguran namin.
“Babe, may sasabihin sana ako eh.”
“Hmmm?”
“Hindi. Wag nalang.” He told me while burying his face in my neck.
Lumayo ako sakanya and nagkunyaring nagalit. “Daniel Mondragon, ano ba yung gusto mong sabihin ha?”
He pulled me closer to him again and he kissed my forehead. “Just promise you’ll listen first. And don’t cry. Okay?”
Nag-nod naman ako as a sign of aproval. “Babe, ayoko ko sana pero my parents are going to send me to the US next week. They want me to study and continue our business there.” He hugged me tighter.
It was then when I realized that my eyes were starting to fill with tears. “K-kelan ka babalik?” Bigla nalang din nag break yung voice ko. I didn’t know why I acted like this. Hindi naman tama.
“Kaya ayoko sabihin sayo eh. Shhh. Don’t cry.”
I placed my hands behind his neck and rested my head on his chest. “You’re coming back r-right? H-how long are you going to stay there?”
“I don’t know how long. Pero it might take a couple of years or I might not come back. I’m really sorry.”
Napaiyak ako lalo nung sinabi niya na pwedeng hindi na siya bumalik. Aminado ako na I don’t have the right to react negatively since we’re not really together.
Bakit ganon? Kung kelan I gave a chance on trusting my heart to someone again, it just ended up into a sad ending. The first time I loved, he died. Now, he’s going to have to leave me.
He was trying to stop me from crying pero hindi ko maexplain kung bakit tuloy tuloy parin yung luha ko. Parang nung sinabi niya saakin yun, bigla nalang na-feel ko na magisa nanaman ako.
I just felt… hurt.
Daniel’s P.O.V.
She just cried herself to sleep habang nakahug parin saakin. I understand that she doesn’t want me to go. Kahit naman ako, ayoko eh. But there’s just somethings I really need to do.
She was hugging me like she doesn’t want me to let go. I was really hurt to see her cry. Based on the Tita Erika’s story, Rein is afraid that she might be forgotten by the people around her. She even tried to kill herself before.
Sabi ni Tita Erika, ngayon niya lang daw ulit nakita si Rein na masaya. I know na pag umalis ako, there might be a possibility na bumalik yung dating siya. Pero as much as possible, I don’t want that to happen to the girl I love.
[Flashback]
“You know Daniel, I’ve never seen my daughter that happy simula nung nawala si Michael sa buhay niya.”
“Tita, your daughter is really easy to love. She’s more than what every guy wants. She’s smart, beautiful, kind, understanding, loving. What more can I ask for?”
“Well, that’s because you brought her back. I just hope na magpatuloy na yan. Daniel, can I trust you?”
“Sure po Tita. Ano po ba yon?”
“My daughter’s heart has been broken before. She tried to kill herself kasi she was afraid that all of us would leave her. As you know, her father and I are not together anymore. Yes, your Tito Matteo loves her na parang totoong anak, but she won’t take that as her source of security. Your Tito Enzo naman, Rein’s dad, has been telling her na hindi mangyayari yon.”
She paused for a while and took a sip of coffee.
“My daughter’s weak Daniel. Hindi lang mukha, pero kapag may nawala pa sakanya, she might try suicide or get major depression again. And sa nakikita ko, you’re one of the major source of Rein’s happiness. Please promise me, that you won’t let her cry.”
[End of flashback]
That promise was a few weeks ago nung hindi ko pa alam na aalis ako.
I tried to convince my parents na hindi na ako umalis pero ayaw nila. As much as I don’t want to leave her, I have no choice.
I felt guilty. Naisip ko naman na if we’re going to continue this relationship, masasaktan lang siya kasi hindi ko talaga sure kung makakabalik pa ako.
Kakaisip ko nakatulog na ako…
Rein’s P.O.V.
Nagulat kami ni Daniel nung bigla nalang may nahulog sa may TV.
It took a while for me to open my eyes. Hapdi kasi namamaga. -.-
When I opened my eyes, I was surprised to see my two brothers and my sister na kinukuha yung Ps3 sa may TV at nahulog nila yung mga remote.
“Nice move, Bliss.” Seth said while rolling his eyes.
“Anong ako? Eh kayo kaya ni Kuya Safe ang nagutos sa akin na kunin ko ‘to!” Namumula na sa inis si Bliss pero she still faced us. “Hi Kuya Daniel! Hi Ate! Sorry.”
Tapos lumabas na sila sa room dala-dala yung Ps3 ko. Pag hindi nila binalik saakin yun! T.T
“Good morning, sweetheart.” He told me then he kissed my cheek and he held my face with both of his hands “Sorry if I hadn’t told you earlier about sa alis ko.” He said then he kissed the tip of my nose.
Umiwas naman ako nang tingin and just told him that I’m hungry. Ayoko muna isipin na aalis siya. Baka lalo lang ako ma-depressed.

“Daniel, B-babe, wag ka na umalis. P-please.” We’re already on our way papunta sa airport. Ihahatid ko si Daniel. Kahit last minute na ‘to, I’ll still try na pigilan siya kasi alam ko na once he steps in the airport, our no-strings-attached-relationship will end.
He just hugged me and didn’t reply. Nasa backseat kami nang car while si Manong driver lang yung nasa harap.
“Sir, nandito na po tayo.”
Nauna na bumaba si Manong driver tapos kinuha niya na yung mga luggage ni Daniel. He was just hugging me habang nakapikit yung mga mata niya. I’ll really miss him.
Hard, but I have to understand.
Bumaba na din siya nang car ang helped me to go out of the car nadin. Pumunta na kami sa may entrance nung airport and we were still holding each other’s hand.
Hinarap niya ako sakanya and held my shoulders. Nakatungo lang ako para hindi niya mahalata na lungkot na lungkot ako dahil sa pagalis niya. “Babe, I guess this is it. I’m really sorry if I haven’t told you earlier.”
“I-I understand.”
“Babe. Oh come on, look at me.” Hinawakan niya yung baba ko and forced me to look at him. “Yan na nga ba sinasabi ko eh. Don’t cry.” Tapos hinug niya na ako. Hindi ko na mapigilang umiyak.
“K-kasi naman. Can’t you just cancel your flight? A-alam mo naman nang ayoko na iniiwan ako eh.”
“Babe, I’m doing this for my future, and who know’s, baka nga future natin eh. I may not be back for a couple of years, pero pagbumalik ako and your still single, I promise you, tayo lang. Tayo lang talaga.”
Tapos bumitaw siya sa hug at tinanggal yung dogtag niya. The dogtag na napaka-importante sakanila. Yung pag nawala nila, super big deal na. I saw Tito David yelling at Paolo before just because he lost his.
Sinuot niya saakin yung dogtag. “Diba hindi mo ‘to pwede mawala? Magagalit si Tito sayo.” I told him while I was supposed to give it back to him.
“No. This will serve as my promise, okay? Promise na when I go back here, and your still single, it means we’re going to be officially together.” He kissed my forehead. “I need to go. For now, I’m going to let you go para naman hindi ka matali saakin while I’m gone. I promise you, babalik ako.”
He gave me a long passionate kiss. “Bye. I love you, Rein. I will come back. I promise.” Tapos he gave me again a long and passionate kiss on the lips tapos pumasok na siya sa airport.
Ang sakit sa pakiramdam na nakikita mo yung taong nagbigay sayo happiness sa second life na lumalakad palayo sayo and you can’t do anything to stop him.
I’ll just have to wait until he comes back.
