Chapter 35

Sam

We were walking towards the car with Xander holding the groceries in his arms, Adriana and Liam trailing behind us. Suddenly, I saw Xander freeze mid-step, his eyes glaze over and a blank look masking his face. I glanced behind me and saw Liam looking at Xander with an alert expression.

Xander's blank look broke before he looked back at me with an apologetic expression. He leaned down and gave my forehead a kiss.

"Sam, listen. A guard who was patrolling the perimeter of the land just told me that he caught a scent of a few rogues about five miles away from the pack, and I can't have that so I need to go investigate. I'll mind-link five guards to take you back to the house along with the groceries. I'm really sorry.

Mind-link me if there's any trouble. Please stay here until the guards arrive. They should be here in five minutes." Xander said, throwing a brief glance at Adriana who didn't seem to notice.

I nodded and gave him a hug. Xander smiled down at me before nodding at Liam and heading to the car. The car doors slammed shut before speeding down the road and disappearing out of my sight. A sigh escaped me as a feeling of longing filled my whole being. I shook my head at my ridiculous thought.

'I'm just missing him, that's all.' I thought to myself.

"Hey Sam, do you mind coming with me? I need to go meet my brother, he just contacted me a few minutes ago saying to meet him because he misses "his little sister." Ugh, I can't believe I'm related to that guy." Adriana said, shaking her head in feigned annoyance, but her face saying the complete opposite.

I looked at her skeptically. I don't want to come with her because every time I'm out with her, trouble seems to always find their way to me, and I don't want that. I don't want to worry Xander and the rest of our pack members anymore. I shook my head at her and gave her a small glare.

"Sorry Adriana, but Xander said that the guards will be arriving soon. I wouldn't want them to think that someone kidnapped us and cause a panic in the pack, right?" I asked her raising an eyebrow.

Adriana pouted and looked at me pleadingly.

"Please Sam, I miss my big brother, and plus I really want you to meet him. He's the best, a little annoying, but still a loving brother." Adriana said with a big smile.

I shook my head at her.

"No Adriana, please respect my decision," I told her firmly.

"Oh don't be a party pooper, Sam. You really need to be more independent and stop following your mate like a lost puppy. It gets really annoying sometimes." Adriana said, rolling her eyes and grabbing a hold of my wrist before dragging me into the forest.

I struggled against her hold and tried to remove her fingers that were wrapped tightly around my wrist. Her hold seemed to tighten making me grow frustrated.

"Adriana stop!" I shouted at her.

"You really need to quiet down a little, girl. Otherwise, people will think that I'm kidnapping you or something." Adriana said jokingly, but I could hear the little irritation in her tone.

"Technically, you are kidnapping me because you are dragging me to someplace against my will, but sure go ahead. I mean it's not like I'm stopping you or anything, even though I tried to tell you to stop two minutes ago." I told her sarcastically, frustration visible in my features as I glared at the hand that was holding me.

"Oh shush, you just got to trust me on this okay? It's not like I'm taking you to the enemy or something, I just want you to meet my brother that's all. And then after that, we'll come back right away, I promise." She said, continuing to drag me.

"Adriana, please just let me go," I told her quietly.

"Not happening, so sorry mate. It's just— I just really want you to meet a family member of mine. After all, I am your friend, aren't I?" She asked softly, looking back at me with a soft smile.

I looked at her for a moment. It's true that we became pretty close these past few weeks, she was the first person who really got to know me, and was my first friend in my entire life. I don't want to lose my first friend because I'm afraid that I won't be able to find another. I could always befriend another pack member, but they all seem to shy away from me because I'm their Alpha's mate.

I sighed and nodded, giving her a soft smile. Adriana beamed back at me and gave me a hug. I hugged her back awkwardly before she released me from her grip and started dragging me once more.

After a few minutes, we arrived at the edge of the forest where a few men were waiting for us.

"Dylan!" Adriana exclaimed, dropping the things she was holding before running to the big man in the middle of the group.

The unknown man wrapped his arms around Adriana and gave her a bone crushing hug.

"Adri! I missed you. How's pack life treating you? I hope they're treating you well or else I'm going to beat the crap out of your mate." The man "Dylan" said while looking at Adriana with a loving expression.

"They're treating me well Dylan, the Alpha doesn't seem to like me that much but oh well. Nothing I can do about that" Adriana said, shrugging her shoulders.

"Oh really?" Dylan said, raising an eyebrow. Amusement covering his features.

"Yep. I don't know why though. I must have done something he didn't like." Adriana said, looking thoughtful.

Dylan laughed before engulfing Adriana in a hug.

"I missed you so much, little sister," Dylan said.

"I missed you too big bro," Adriana replied, resting her head on her brothers' chest.

I stood awkwardly to the side not knowing what to do. I like seeing the brother and sister reunion and all, but why did Adriana had to drag me here if she wasn't going to introduce me to her brother like she said she would? As if reading my mind, Adriana looked at me and her smile grew larger if possible.

"Oh, right. I want you to meet my new friend, Dylan. Sam meet my big brother Dylan, and Dylan meet my friend Sam. She's also the Luna of this pack and the Alpha's mate." Adriana said gesturing to me.

Dylan looks exactly like Adriana except for the color of their eyes where Adriana has hazel, and Dylan has green. He's big and tall frame giving him an intimidating aura, almost like Xander's, but I know that no one can compare to Xander when it comes to power and intimidation.

I waved at Dylan, feeling slightly uncomfortable under his watchful gaze.

"Nice to meet you, Luna. I'm Dylan Adriana's older brother." Dylan said, putting his hand out to shake. I took his hand and shook it, feeling the hardness and dryness of it.

"Pleasure to meet you, and please call me Sam," I told him, forcing out a smile.

Dylan watched me again, a thoughtful look clouding his face.

"Well, as much as I would love to catch up with you, we really need to get going. I'll talk to you soon Dylan." Adriana said before giving her big brother another hug before waving him goodbye. Before we left, I saw Adriana and Dylan share a secret look before Dylan turned away and started heading deeper into the woods.

Adriana and I started walking back to the direction of the parking lot where the guards should be waiting for us. I feel worried because I have this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that's telling me that something wrong is about to happen. I want to ignore it and reassure myself that everything is fine, but it's not going away.

"So, what did you think of my brother?" Adriana asked and curiosity could be heard in her voice.

I looked at the ground before shrugging.

"He seems nice, a little intimidating, but he seems like a loving brother," I replied.

Adriana beamed at me.

"He is, isn't he?" She murmured.

I didn't reply. I feel drained after today's event. I just want nothing more than to rest and eat food to satisfy the stomach cramps that have been bugging me since this morning.

We walked back to the parking lot in silence.
