Troye ha vinto il suo primo ARIA award la notte del 23 Novembre, nella categoria Song of the Year con il suo singolo Youth.
Troye ha dedicato il premio a tutti i giovani membri della LGBTI community, dicendo: “Questo è per ogni gay australiano che vuole fare musica, ogni ragazzino della LGBTQ comunity che vuole fare musica- puoi farlo e vincere un ARIS anche tu.”

It’s Troye Sivan’s night to shine having been nominated for an impressive five ARIA awards, but it seems the Youth singer has bigger things on his mind.
After bagging an award for Apple Music Song of the Year - which was presented to him by Robbie Williams - Troye headed backstage into the media room to discuss the same-sex marriage debate in Australia.
“To me, this is an issue,” the openly gay star said. “It feels like it’s no longer an issue of the people, more of the politicians.
“It’s only a matter of time [before it happens] but we can’t get complacent. We have to keep going. It feels like Australia is a progressive open and safe country, and it is just sad that doesn’t feel like it’s being portrayed that way politically.”
The 21-year-old South-African-born star, who is openly gay, also talked about the demands of being a gay role model.
"It’s a lot of pressure but it’s role that it would be irresponsible of me to not embrace it as much as I can,” he continued.
“I’ve learnt more in this year about music and myself and about people than I have in the whole of my life.”
