Tessa returned to their stone prison in tears, clutching on to Evan whose own tears only just tried.

"I'm sorry." Evan said as they sat on the bed again, under the covers.

Tessa wrapped her in an embrace.

Evan swallowed. "The village?"

"Destroyed."

Evan nodded and let her head fall on Tessa's shoulder. Hours later, when Tessa had fallen asleep, Evan was still up.

Up, and waiting for Will Herondale to sneak through the stone doorway even though he'd promised he wouldn't come. Evan wasn't sure if she was relieved or devastated when she finally fell asleep, that Will never came.
