"I thought you would have forgotten about me," I mumbled quietly as Chloe and I laid on her bed in her dimly lit room, she began to laugh,
"You're fucking kidding me right?" She scoffed, "The only thing I forgot is how fucking crazy you were," A moment of silence fell upon us as we passed the joint between us, "Are you taking your meds yet?" I laughed,
"No. I don't need to," I smiled softly, "I'm better now," Chloe shook her head,
"Your fists would say otherwise, Elizabeth. What the fuck happened?" She sat up and looked down at me, "And that's the biggest bruise I've ever seen on your face," I looked away from her burning eyes and quickly sat up, my back facing her.
"I should get going," I sighed standing up off her bed, she grabbed onto my wrist,
"Not until you tell me what the fuck is going on with you!" She yelled as she stood up in front of me, "I've never seen you smoke so fucking much, you're off your meds, and you're going to Vortex Club parties,"
"I was like this before, Chloe," I sighed, "I was normal. I smoked, I didn't take medication and I went to parties,"
"Did you ever stop to think that maybe that's what sent you to the hospital?" She bargained,
"My dad sent me there. Not my state of well being," I retaliated, she sighed and sat down, placing her head in her hands,
"I did." She mumbled,
"What?" I asked, raising my eyebrows as I looked down at her,
"I sent you there."
"Fuck off," I laughed softly, trying not to believe what was coming out of her mouth,
"I did!" She shouted, "I paid your dad to send you there because it wasn't safe for you here, that's why I owe Frank so much money. I wanted you to get the help you needed before I paid my debts. I thought that if you were in hospital you would stop hanging out with those people at Blackwell. I sent you there because I cared," I stared at her, speechless, "Say something, Beth."
"It's clear you never cared." I collected my things and placed them into my bag before I stormed out of her house, slamming the door being me.
I had spent the afternoon walking up and down the stretch of beach that Arcadia Bay offered, the sand melting between my toes and the rough waves crashing before my feet reminded me of my mother. She would take me down here when I was younger and we would spend hours walking up and down the shore line, collecting anything from shells to rocks to interesting leaves of seaweed. My hands were continuously sweating and the pounding in my head felt like it was never going to end. My knees began to feel week so I decided to sit down in the sand, brushing my hands off on my knees as I watched the waves rolled in.
"Elizabeth?" I turned around and saw Frank standing behind me and Pompidou sitting at his feet, I weakly smiled up at him, his face dropped once he saw me, "The fuck happened to your face, kid?" I turned back to the ocean as Frank came to sit down next to me, his dog following.
"Nothing," I nodded looking back out at the ocean, "Just an accident,"
"If anyone hurt you, Beth I swear to God," Frank rambled,
"Frank. I'm fine," I reassured him "What are you doing here?"
"Pompidou was pissing me off with his extra energy so I'm burning it," He explained while patting the dog on his head, "What are you doing here?" My mind wandered to Chloe and I felt tears brim my eyes and fall softly down my cheek,
"Chloe paid my dad to send me to hospital," Frank's fists clenched,
"I fucking knew she was up to no good, Elizabeth," His voice rose, "I'll sort her out if you want," I shook my head quickly,
"No. No it's okay Frank," I sighed, "I cant loose another one."
