What is a dream?

A mere figment of our imagination? A way for our subconscious to tell you something you don't know?

Or is it a way to show you forgotten memories?

When I woke up an hour or so later, I was shocked. I felt like a bitch. The only words I could utter after witnessing my forgotten past were: "I'm sorry"

Why?

I'll tell you why.

~Flashback~

...eleven years ago...

"Mommy? When will I meet Daddy?" five-year old (y/n) said.

"Soon, my dear. In fact, he wanted to meet you today!" (mother's name~ M/n) said.

"*gasp* Really?!" (y/n) said

"Yes. C'mon, let's go find him!"

(y/n) was jumping excitedly around her mother, cheering and singing while they made their way to the edge of the forest. Her mother could hear static, but it didn't seem to bother little (y/n).

"Slender!" her mother exclaimed and ran to the faceless being, giving him a tight hug.

"It's good to see you too, (M/n)" the being said.

"Mommy, who's that?"

"It's your father, (y/n)! Come say hi!" (M/n) said enthusiastically.

"Hello, little (y/n)."

"H-hi, daddy." she said, hugging his leg, because she's too short.

"She reminds me of Splendor. He was short when we were young as well."

"Daddy! Want to see my pictures? Look! I want to show you my room, too!"

The being followed the little girl into her small home. Her drawings, ones she drew since she was two, three in total, were of her father. With words scrawled over it.

"Mommy said you'll always watch me and keep me safe, but you don't have eyes, so I drew this one! Every year, on my birthday, I would draw a picture for daddy!"

"That's a very pretty picture, little (y/n)"

~ Every year, her father would visit. Frequently, actually. He'd visit at least once a week. He once saved her from the Rake, but it was unnecessary, for the girl befriended it.

They would play games, draw, tell stories. (y/n) loved her father, but every time he was gone, she would forget. Slender had that affect on people. It's both a gift and a curse. He has no control over what humans remember unless he has something specific he wants forgotten.

Until the year (y/n)'s mother died~

~ seven years from now, 2009~

(Y/n), now nine years old, just finished her eighth picture, which was just a big sketch of Slender.  She hard a loud cracking sound and scream from outside, which sounded way too much like her mother. She rushed outside and surveyed the scene. Her mother was buried beneath a large tree, which had fallen over.

"MOM!" she shrieked and ran over. There was a large puddle of blood and tissue surrounding the tree, where her mother had been. Crushed.

It was too late.

The little girl sobbed and ran inside the house, the scene too gruesome for such a young girl. Sobbing, she spotted the picture of her father, and scrawled the word 'no' over and over on the sides of the pictures.

The being appeared behind her.

"(y/n), what's wrong?"

"M-mom..."

The being stayed quiet. Then he picked her up.

"Will I be living with you now, daddy?" she asked

"No, It's not safe for you. I don't want you getting hurt. But I'll come for you, I promise."

"O-okay"

Years passed, and her father barely returned, because she was almost always accompanied by her fellow orphans. He cannot be seen. He wanted to help, so much. He didn't like seeing her taunted and teased by her 'siblings'. They called her a witch, a freak. When she was thirteen, she snapped, and killed them all. She ran and searched for shelter. Slender wanted her by then, but it was too open. He tried, of course, and she'd forget every time.

Years later, on her fifteenth birthday, she managed to remember their meet-up, but it didn't end well.

It was the only memory she managed too keep in her head, and she was convinced he abandoned her.

Which bring us to now.

~End of Flashback~

"I feel like an idiot..." I was lying on a soft bed, my new rom, I guessed, where Hoodie kept watch over me. He carried me here when I passed out, and when I woke up, he called Slender.

"It's not your fault. Slender has that effect on everyone. I just don't know why you blacked out. Or managed to remember."

"Because she's more... Slender-being now. The black-out was caused by exhaustion. She used too much of her powers at once, and after years of neglect, teleporting and sending energy waves could be bad. You need to practice more, (y/n)."

I looked at my hands. I felt guilty for not giving him a chance to explain.

I noticed something and frowned. I held my hands up and studied them, a confused frown still plastered on my face.

"What? What's wrong?" Hoodie asked. I still don't know where the others are.

"I'm... not twitching" I said, not taking my eyes off my hands.

"That's... good, right?"

"I... don't know."

"The twitching as well as the multiple personalities weren't actual disorders. They were side affects from repressing your powers."

"So... now that I'm using them again... I won't twitch? Or switch my personalities?"

"Unless you stop using your powers again, no, you won't"

"Weird..."

Toby and Masky suddenly came crashing through  the door. Yes, through. As in, they broke the door.

"There you are! We thought you and Hoodie were abducted or something!" Masky said

I snickered.

"Nah, I'm fine. Turns out I don't actually have disorders" I said. They gave me a weird look, and I explained to them about the whole powers-thing.

"So... now what?" I said after a while of annoying silence.

"Now, I think you should meet the rest of the household" Hoodie said.

"Yes! Then we make waffles!" Toby said and ran over to me, scooping me up and running away.

I laughed at him

"I can walk, y'know" I said.

"I know, but I like carrying you!"

"Good! You're gonna have to get used to it! Onwards, Toby!" I said.

We went downstairs, where Smiley and Elfy still were, and I jumped out of Toby's arms.

"Hello, strange people working for my father! Guess who's moving in!" I said.

Smiley looked at me. "The name's Jeff. Jeff the Killer. This is Benjamin Drowned."

"It's BEN! Don't call me Benjamin!" Elfy said.

I laughed at them.

"Well, I'm (y/n) (l/n), daughter of Slenderman."

The both stared at me. Well, Smiley didn't have a choice.

"Ya heard meh! Toby! Who else is there?" I said

"Oh, plenty! Let's go!" He said.

"Onwards!" I yelled and pointed to a door leading to the corridor.

We ran through the halls, greeting random people who happened to be passing by. Some returned my sudden cheerfulness, others gave me a strange look that said "And I thought I was crazy". I liked it.

Y'know... I think I'll like living here.
