"I won't be held down by who I used to be.

She's nothing to me." -"Weight of the World" by Evanescence

"There it is!" Inigo breathed out, disbelief evident in his voice. Nova slapped his arm.

"You didn't even know if it was real!" she accused him. "You could have gotten us in trouble for some myth!" Inigo sent her a sheepish smile before grabbing her hand once again and darting towards the end of the city.

"I heard that the vampires don't go out of the city for any reason! We should be okay once we hit it!" Inigo rushed out, a big smile on his face.

Soon enough they crossed the barren expanse and stood in front of the hole. It was a lot bigger than it appeared from farther away. It stood at least fifty feet tall and was at least fifty feet wide. They gaped at its enormousness, dwarfed in its presence.

"Let's go!" Inigo said excitedly. Nova stood in place as he started forward.

"I don't know, Ini... I don't think this is a good idea..." she drifted off, having second thoughts. Inigo stopped, turning around to give her an exasperated look.

"We snuck out after curfew, walked across half the city, and avoided Overseers all for you to turn back now? I don't think so!" Inigo told her, beckoning her towards him once again. "What's the worst that could happen?" Nova made an indecisive noise in the back of her throat before taking a hesitant step onto the steep pitch inside the hole.

"I hope you know what you're doing..." she muttered out, continuing to walk past him as she started into the darkness. She peered up to the top, and a medium sized speck of white-ish-blue light shone.

"Is that your 'other world' up there?" she asked Inigo who was now a few steps ahead of her. He grinned back at her.

"I don't know, but I hope it is!" They continued to climb, and the light continued to grow in size until it opened up into a room. It was floored with white marble. The walls were white, and wrought iron chandeliers hung from the ceiling with dozens of candles lit. Even the furniture off to the side was white, accented with blood red rugs. On the other side was another compacted dirt road, much less steeped than the first, with light illuminating the ground.

There only problem was that in between the two of them and the outside world, was a vampire. The black uniform was decorated with silver colored buttons. The vampires shoulder length platinum color hair was pulled back, a braid from either side meeting at the back of his hair. His cheekbones were prominent, and his blood red eyes shone with hostility. The problem was, the more powerful a vampire was, the more ethereal and angelic looking their appearances became. And this vampire was gorgeous.

"Master!" Nova cried out in surprise. His condescending eyes met hers, a flicker of disapproval in them. She lowered her gaze instantly, knowing it was considered impolite to keep eye contact.

"What are you doing out here, Milord?" she asked, trying to sound pleasant, but her voice quivered with fear.

"Yes, what are you doing out here? Vampires aren't supposed to go past the barren line around the city!" Inigo called out angrily. Nova gasped quietly, shooting her friend a dirty look.

"Inigo!" she warned, daring a glance up to her master. A displeased grimace was on his lip, his fangs fully on display. In a blink of an eye, Quintavius stood toe to toe with Inigo. Inigo refused to break eye contact, swallowing harshly as he did so. Nova stepped back horrified, watching the scene play out before as a thin, wooden stake was revealed from Inigo's sleeve. Without a moment of hesitation, he plunged it into Quintavius' chest.

Her master slowly glanced down at it, before his gazed rolled back up to Inigo. His hand reached up, and retracted the weapon from his chest, the blood seeping into his uniform, giving it a sticky, wet look.

"Please, forgive him, Master! Inigo is no where in his right mind! Please, do not kill him!" she pleaded, tears threatening her eyes. She didn't dare move closer, knowing only to come when beckoned. Quintavius' eyes didn't leave Inigo, seeming to ignore Nova's cries.

"Pitiful human, vampires go where ever they please." And with that, Inigo was thrown against a nearby wall with a sickening crack. Nova let out a terrified scream, staring in horror at her best friend's limp body. Her chin was suddenly grabbed by a white glove, and her gaze was torn from Inigo to land on furious red eyes.

"Little lamb, what are you doing out here?" Quintavius asked her sternly. She swallowed back a lump in her throat, trying to glance over towards Inigo. "Nova," his voice dropped an octave, taking on a dangerous tone. Her eyes snapped back up to his. "What are you doing out here?"

"I was woken up after I went home by Inigo. He told me about the uprising that was occurring, and that he was going to use that as a distraction to escape from here. He wanted me to come with him," she blabbed, feeling their bond tug and compel her to tell. Her eyes rocketed back down to the ground. Tears welled at her confession, spilling over and down her cheeks. Quintavius' grip tightened on her jaw to a painful point, but he gently wiped away her tears.

"And did you want to leave? Did you want to leave me and go with this human?" he questioned her. She felt the bond tug again, and she shook her head within his grip. It loosened slightly.

"No, he promised me I could see the sky. I just wanted to see what he was talking about, but I told him I wasn't going with him, and that after I saw it, I was returning back!" she told the truth. A pleased smile graced Quintavius' lips, and he leaned down so he was only a breath away from her lips.

"Good girl," he whispered against them. He tilted her head to the side, stroking the crisp white bandage that covered his favorite spot to drink from. Nova's eyes slid close as she relished in the feeling.

"I shouldn't have taken so much. I would have been able to get a little more to taste before setting you free for a bit," he murmured. Her eyes snapped open, and she looked at him in confusion.

"Set me free, My lord?" she asked. "Have I not been suitable enough for you? If you don't mind me asking, what have I done wrong that is causing you to do this?" A tightness in her chest built up, worried she had displeased her master.

"No, my little lamb, you've done nothing wrong. I simply have a task for you. You see, a resistance has built up outside the city. The vampires are feeling threatened by it. I simply want you to go into it, win over people's trust, and report to me their plans," he said to her, running a thumb over her bottom lip. "You've pleased me with your services past satisfactory, in fact," he added. She felt a chill run up her spine, and she couldn't help the shy smile that lit up her face. His gaze remained impassive, before it hardened once again.

"You will not remember the conversation we just had. You will not remember your objective. You will leave the city and join the outside world. You will join the resistance. You will not have a moment of hesitation because you realize this is what you want to do," he said in a monotone voice. Her eyes went slack, loosing all of their expression.

When she snapped to a moment later, she was in an empty room. She only remembered that she had snuck out to escape the tyranny of the vampires. Feeling a fabric around her neck, she gripped it, ripping it away, revealing her collar. She gave it a disgusted look before tossing it across the room. She turned back to stare at the next slope which led her to freedom. She sprinted for it, not wanting to be caught at the last moment. Light blinded her eyes as she stepped out of the cavern.

The world opened up around her. Trees swayed in the wind, and wildlife infested the area. Down below in a valley was a decimated city. Building were collapsed with giant holes leaving their mark in the skyline. The sky... Nova glanced up, taking in the pallet of colors that melted into each other, creating a beautiful piece of art right before her eyes. It stretched on further than her eyes could see.

It was breathtaking.
