A/N: as stated on my Instagram account wattpad_e.rose, I said I was going to update in the next 24 hours and here it is. Enjoy!

Over the many months without his 'mate', his wolf had been fighting against Xavier. Not letting him shift, angry that his human side was not accepting the gift that was sent by the moon goddess above.

Xavier could feel the cold shrug that his wolf would give when ever he tried to tap into his wolfs abilities or to shift. The little vixen he had met over a year ago has left Xavier to deal with an uprising. His pack angry that he won't get over what had happened with Erikah.

They knew the female alpha was his mate. They'd see every time he tried to shift he would get stuck in a half shift. Half man, half beast. How could he be so blind to what this female alpha could bring to his pack. He was still in denial, but was wondering if he should maybe accept the mate bond to satisfy his wolf and his pack members who are outraged.

He was endangering them for another attack because of his wolf not allowing him to shift. His pack was going against many of his orders.

"Xavier, I know your wolf is hurting and maybe you are too, but this is what I meant. When you first met Isla you knew there was something different about her, your wolf felt a connection to her. He didn't feel a connection to Erikah and he knew that Erikah was not your mate." When Damien said Isla's name Xavier couldn't help but flinch. He kept a blank face but his body would go against him, he couldn't resist much longer, could he?

"You and Isla are both just going to hurt yourselves and everyone else in the process. Your mate bond could be a beautiful thing and bring light into the bleakness of this pack, but instead you're going to curse us into a dystopian world. We as a pack need an alpha that can find a way to bring a new world, a better world for this pack." His beta would constantly scold him, if he wasn't his cousin, and a great pack doctor to his pack, then he would probably kill him for the way he speaks to him.

"Damien, go and tend to your patients. You're irritating me greatly, whilst I'm trying to complete this load of pack work. I know my pack isn't happy with the current situation, but I'm not going to give them another reason." His hands paling at his knuckles as they clenched, trying to hold himself back. His beta was loved dearly, any other normal day it would be fine. Before Isla, his pack believed they would just play roughhouse.

"Fine." Damien opened the door to walk out.
"Just keep denying everything and see what happens, then we'll see whose fit to be Alpha." He slammed the door on his way out, leaving Xavier to grit his teeth and slam his hand into the plaster of the wall. His wolf was agitated too, which caused Xavier to curse out at his wolf, as his wolf left him in half shift once again.

He saw his reflection in the window, the white laced curtains that was picked out by his mother flowing from the soft wind. Xavier felt like they were mocking him so he ripped them off with his elongated claws.

"Fuck".

The teared pieces slipped through his fingers, his heart aching. He wished his mother was still alive so he could be consoled by her, but instead he had no one. In his moment of silence, he stood there staring out at the window. Rain spitting against the glass panel, before it started to get heavier. He closed the window before turning around, he swiped at his desk causing papers to fall from the original spots.

His eyes catching in the brief moment, Isla's hand writing. It was neat to an extent but being a rogue from young age had left it to be slightly messy. Looking at the pieces of the decrypted codes, he felt his heart tug in a painful needless way. Then he saw it. She placed hearts above her i's.

He rushed up, opening the draw to see the recent coded letter. On the top right corner was the letter i with the same heart stamped above it. What could it mean? His wolf shuffled in the back of his mind, peaking out at Xavier's realisation.

His moment was interrupted as the warning alarm blasted throughout his pack. Chaos was incurring and he couldn't even shift. His wolf completely shutting him out from being able to shift. He was furthermore alone without his wolf to even help him.

He jumped down the stairs and ran through the door shouting for the pack mothers and children to follow the protocol as planned. This time they listened to him, his growl was guttural, stuck half in beast form made it hard to speak as he commanded his wolves into safety or to fight.

He saw Kelly's wolf, a reminder of Isla, her pack smell was more distinct now, she refused to join his pack. It had occurred during a full moon awhile back, he never questioned it but now he wondered, did Isla get more pack members. His thought trailing off momentarily, before he saw what was causing this pack to be alarmed. A group of rogues were piling in from the thick forestry that surrounded them.

Clothes and flesh tearing, were the noises that were filling the air and Xavier was stuck. His wolf wouldn't let him shift. Never before in his life had Xavier felt so stressed out.

Was his wolf suicidal without his mate?

He was able to injure some of the wolves that came at him, in return he had a few slashes and the rain had the blood trailing down his body. He was trying to force his shift, his body covered in patches of fur, but in the moment his senses were dulled making him unaware of the attack that was coming from behind.

"Get away from him!" He heard that voice that his wolf longed to hear.

He looked straight at where it came from. His chest pounding as he panted. All of a sudden she appeared in a muddied long t-shirt. Her growl thunderous, following her was a group of white wolves, grey and brown. A mixed group with many being hybrids.

Xavier smiled, he was thankful for when his wolf returned, a couple of bones shifting and then all at once.

That quick few seconds saved his life as he saw a dirty rogue fly above him, that was meant to go for the neck of his human side.

The muscles of his wolf flexing as he tore chunks from the rogues. Lightening came crashing down, too close to the comfort of his wolves. His wolf commanded for his to not attack the wolves that smelt like a pack. They were Isla's pack. It made sense to why Kelly's pack smell was becoming stronger. Isla was fending off many rogues and was incapacitating, making his wolf proud. His wolf would show a grin if it could, she became alpha.

His wolf was smug about his mate and Xavier let his wolf have this moment.

He saw Isla in her wolf form, stumbling before shifting back. He wondered what had happened. His wolf ran to her shrugging off rogues that went to attack him. One rogue went for Isla's throat, but Xavier quickly locked his jaws on the rogues hind leg before ripping him off giving the wolf some air time before his wolf chomped on the rogues neck.

"My male." Was choked out by the alpha female that laid there, in another males arms, however Xavier realised she was grasping for him. He let out a breath of relief that she hadn't mated with another male. He saw this male once before.

Matías stared at Xavier in the eyes, challenging him. He flicked his hand and a male that fitted Isla's description of the man that infiltrated his pack rose his hand. A drowsiness filling his mind as his wolf paced trying to stay awake for his female. He succumbed to the bitter darkness. Xavier's human form fell to the muddied ground.
.................................

A pain filled her chest, but she didn't take much notice of it.

No, she was more focused on something else that crowded her mind and that was the fighting and the death that surrounded her before she passed out. She wasn't sure what had happened, but She felt drained. She knew Xavier saved her. It made her wolf happy. Even if he hadn't accepted her yet, it was baby steps.

She opened her eyes to the dark walls and the white roof. She could feel the silkiness of the sheets against her body. She was content. The bed was comfy, something she hadn't slept in for a long time. She could feel a source of warmth next to her, but then it stilled suddenly. She felt the sheets start to move which made her open her eyes and turn her head to see what the movement was.

It was her male.

They had never been this close before, but she was loving every second of it. She could see the small freckles that dotted across his nose. It wasn't many but they were there.

His dark hair and grey eyes stayed the same whilst she was gone. He had a 5'o clock stubble shade. She felt her wolf longing. She wished everything could be different, but she was going to wait.

Hope is a dangerous flame to play with but she was willing to be consumed by it. It may burn her, but she knew if she was lucky enough it would become a source of warmth against the cold. A source of life for her to live with. She continued to look at him whilst wondering why he was laying next to her so willingly.

"Hello," His deep raspy voice paused, it sent shivers down her spine, goosebumps forming along the skin of her arms as she felt the mate bond had thickened as time went by, "mate."
