"How the hell?" Skylar yelled out after me and Bam had won 3 rounds of the battle of the sexes game with out even trying. He basically was on mute throughout the whole game except for when he had to speak.

"I know right. They ass didn't even want to play, but they kicking everybody ass."

I cackled softly before looking at the time. It was late and I had to work in the morning. When glancing up, I saw Brandon looking at me.

"Ready?" he practically whispered.

I nodded and he stood from the other side of the couch. "Where y'all going?" Brooklyn asked us with a glowing smile on her face. "Y'all just can't beat us and then disappear like that."

"He's giving me a ride home."

"I thought I was taking you home," Skylar said.

"No, you're not," Travis told her as he snatched the wine glass from his sister's hand. "I need to get you home too. Ol' drunk ass."

"Need me to take her?" Brandon offered with his hands placed in his pockets.

"Nah, bro. I know you gotta work tomorrow too. Just take Laurie and I'll handle my sister."

"Well, that was fun. See you guys later," I said while strolling to the front door behind Brandon.

"Yes, for sure. Good seeing you Lauren!" One of our older friends from high school yelled out as I started to walk out.

"Likewise!"

Brandon closed the door behind me and we walked to the elevator to get to his car. Of course, he did not say a word to me.

"So, that's your loft?" I asked, breaking the dry silence between us.

"Yeah," he responded with a nod before a cracking a small smile. It caught me off-guard.

"It's a really nice spot. I bet you pay a hefty price for it and what you smiling about?" I asked curiously since he doesn't show emotions about too much of anything.

"You just won't stop with the questions, like you don't stop. It reminds me of a old friend of mine in that regard."

"Oh," I said. "Um, is that good or bad thing?" I wondered with my arms crossed and my brows arched.

"That's subjective..." he mumbled as the elevator door opened.

When we reached outside he pointed to where his car was. "I'm over here." I followed beside him to the vehicle and suprisingly he opened my door. I chuckled lowly because I don't remember the last time that any man had done that for me.

"And what were you laughing about?" He questioned me while hopping in the driver's side of his car. I wasn't expecting him to pay any attention to any of what I was doing.

"Nothing, just thinking about something."

"Oh, cause I know you wasn't laughing at my Doc McStuffins wristband. My niece told me it's trendy." He spoke in a serious tone, but I knew he was joking. When peeking down at his right wrist, I smiled a bit. I hadn't noticed it at all before.

"Hmm, she's right. The pink and purple brings out your eyes too."

"Funny," he replied with a simple head nod. "Okay, so where am I going?"

Once I told him my mom's address, the car ride was silent as I expected--aside from the low music playing the background.

"You and your niece close?" I tried to make conversation when he approached a stop light and he looked over at me with a look that made me regret asking.

"Nevermind," I rebutted.

The last thing I wanted to do was to piss him off. Brandon reminded me a lot of myself when I going through my depression: irritable, spaced out, and cold.

"Uh, I haven't seen my sister in over a year, but I call her often to check on my niece though. T-That's my little rider," he stammered.

His eyes never left the road as he talked. I was surprised that he actually revealed anything personal. "What's her name?"

"Suri."

"Aww, that's so cute. She probably adores you..."

"I never tell her no, so that's likely," he said while shaking his head like he was under a spell of hers.

"So, you do care about something...interesting." I noticed that his jaw tightened when I said that and I playfully rolled my eyes. "Are you seriously taking that to heart? It's not that deep."

"I'm fine."

I figured he was lying because his face said otherwise, but I didn't push the issue with him. "Well, I apologize anyway."

"No need."

Just as we pulled in to my mom's driveway, the same car from yesterday was parked here once again next to mine and hers. I knew who it belonged to now and I didn't want to go inside.

"Hey, did you hear me?" I glanced over at Brandon to see him looking at me with concerned eyes. "What's wrong? I'm supposed to be the anti-social one."

I bit down on my tongue before replying. "He's here," I groaned and he looked around our surroundings in confusion.

"Who?"

"My husband."

Brandon sighed deeply and immediately pulled out his phone. I grabbed it from him. "I know what you're about to do. Don't call the police."

"Lauren, you have a restraining order against him and he's at your place of residence. That's a clear violation. Let me make the call." He tried to grab at his phone, but I took it out of his reach.

"You're an officer. Can't you just come in here and talk tough to him, so he can leave."

"I'm on not even on-duty. That's tricky grounds for me to be walki--"

"My son is inside. I can't have his father get arrested in front of him. Please, Bam..." I snapped, forgetting that he didn't want to be called that. His face gradually softened and he nodded.

"Okay, I'll go play mediator."

I sighed in relief and opened the car door to get out. When I turned around, he was putting a pistol on his waistband.

"Um, is the gun necessary?" I questioned him, nervous about him even bringing it in the house.

"Fine, I'll play by your rules," he commented while putting it back in his car and coming back beside me. He signaled for me to lead the way inside and I did.

We walked in to see my son downstairs in the media room watching TV. "Hey, mama," he waved me off, so focused on whatever show was being played.

"Nas, get your feet off that coffee table. Now, where's your grandma?"

"Upstairs, I think she sleep. Oh, and dad's here. He went to wait for you in your room."

Brandon gave me a irritated glance and shook his head. "You know, this wouldn't be a problem if you pressed char--"

"Don't start," I interrupted him. "I already heard your speech at the station last night. Can we please go handle this...my way, like you said."

"Okay, lead the way."

I walked up the stairs with him not too far behind me. "You hear that?" Brandon inquired with his brows arched. I turned back to him and shook my head.

"Hear what?" I asked.

"Nevermind. Let's get this over with."

When finally arriving to my room, I heard weird noises. "Is that the noise you're talking about?" I questioned him.

"Yeah. Don't it sound like something dying?" Just as I opened my room door, my eyes burned from what I saw. I couldn't believe it, but who was I kidding. I wasn't even shocked I was hurt.

"Are you fucking kidding me!" I became enraged at this point. I started charging the bed, not knowing what I would do. I just had to get a punch in, but I was being held back.

"You fucking assholes!" I spat with tears roaming down my face.

"Laurie, it was an accident." My whore of a mother had the nerve to speak like she wasn't in the bed that I grew up in with my estranged husband.

"You know your mom always been thirsty, Lauren. I only came here to talk to you and she came on to me like she wanted it."

"Fuck both of y'all. I'm gone. I hope this shit was worth it because I'm done with you both. Stay the fuck away from me!" I quickly grabbed some of my shit and ignored whatever else they were saying.

When I was nearly finished packing, Christian tried to approach me but Brandon stood in front of me.

"You shouldn't be here. Should I remind you what that restraining order say or you want me to make that call?"

He looked him up and down, laughing. "Baby, who is this nigga? You got a bodyguard now..."

Christian tried grabbing for my hand, but Brandon pushed him back. "I'm not gone warn you again." He was so calm when he said it, that even I was nervous.

"Oh, so you wanna play rough L? Bad move, but don't worry...I'll hurt your gold digging ass where hurts you most."

I was taken aback by the accusation that I'm a gold digger. Christian knew for a fact that it was never about his money to begin with. He was the one who threw money around like it was trash.

"You got all your things, Lauren?"

"Yeah," I uttered and Brandon turned around to pick up the two suitcases for me.

"Let's get y'all out of here," still he was so calm, but stern. I followed behind him down the stairs.

"Nas, put your shoes on. We're leaving."

My son looked at me like he was lost. "But mama thi--"

"Nasir! Do what I said! I'm not playing with you," I scolded him, still shaking from what I had witnessed just moments ago.

"Mama, are you okay?" Nas asked me as he put his sneakers on. He looked concerned. I just nodded at him with a false smile.

"Then, why are you crying?" I hadn't even realized that I had a endless supply of tears rushing down my face. I tried wiping them away, but they were steady coming down.

"I'm fine, Nas. Come on."

When we got outside, Brandon was leaning on his car with his eyes to the ground. I didn't expect him to stay at this point, I had been embarrassed more than enough tonight.

"Where you think you're going?" He asked when I got to my car.

"Driving elsewhere."

"Nah, you're not in the right mindset to drive right now. Not with your water works. Plus, I already put y'all bags in my trunk."

"Thanks, but--" He raised his hand in my face, not wanting to hear the rest of my statement.

"I don't want to hear it. If something happens to y'all while you're driving and I could've stopped it, Sky and Trav will eat me alive."

I sighed while wiping my face again. "You're not giving me an option, are you?"

"No, I'm not. I'll take you wherever you trying to go. Just give me the address."

"Fine, the Four Seasons it is."

Vote, comment, and whatever else ;)
