Rose’s P.O.V

Kaolin stared off at Carter before his gaze switched to me. “What was Carter speaking to you about?”

I smiled. “Are we jealous?” I mocked. He scoffed and gave me a horrified look.

“Why would I be?” He said as if it weren’t obvious that I was Health’s stupid little sister.

I rolled my eyes. “Right.” I said calmly before getting up.

Kaolin frowned. “Why are you getting up? I just got us a bottle of sparkling cider.” He pouted

I studied him for a moment before I laughed. “Why would you do that? Madison is gone and there’s no one else to convince.” I said gathering my bag.

He nudged me back down. “That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t thank you.” He said softly.

I squinted. “Don’t tell me you’re trying to keep me here because Heath’s having sex with Sam.” I said coiling my face in disgust.

He laughed loudly. “I actually hadn’t thought of that, but maybe we should stay out late for them.”

I smiled, resting back against the patio’s deck. I watched the night’s sky as Kaolin settled back down. “What are you thinking?” He asked me.

I looked back down at him. He was pouring a cup for me. “Nothing in particular.” I answered.

He gawked at me. “I’m having a hard time believing you.” He smirked.

I giggled. “Can I ask you something?” I said grasping the cup.

He smirked. “You just did.”

I rolled my eyes. “Did you ever feel anything for Madison?” I asked.

Shocked by my question, Kaolin choked on his cider. He studied me as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “What?” He asked, his face curtly twisted.

“Did you ever feel anything for Madison?” I repeated.

He sighed, setting the glass down on the table. “Not really, I guess. I mean, I was attracted to her.” His green eyes seemed sharper than usual. I tried to shift my gaze somewhere else, but the wind made his brown hair blow. I wish I could run my fingers through it. “Not the answer you expected?” He guessed after the moments of silence.

I shook my head laughing lightly. “I wouldn’t expect otherwise from you, Kaolin.” I sipped some cider.

He scowled. “What are you trying to say?” He said spitefully.

“Nothing. It’s just that you have a tendency to be a slut.” I said flatly.

He roared into a fit of laughter. “How could you say that to me?” He questioned, placing a hand over his heart, pretending he was hurt.

“Well, it’s true.” I said drinking cider.

He smiled crookedly. “I have needs.” He said defensively.

I snorted. “Even then that doesn’t give you the right to sleep with anything that moves.”

He laughed. “Firstly, I don’t sleep. I fuck. And secondly, I don’t fuck everything that moves.”

“Oh yeah, I’d like to see the proof!” I bantered.

“Well, we haven’t hooked up, have we?” He quirked a teasing eyebrow. I felt the blood rush to my cheeks as the anger boiled in me.

“That’s because I wouldn’t let you in my pants.” I rebuffed.

He chuckled. “If I really wanted to, Rose, I would’ve down you a long time ago.” He said uninterested.

“Oh, so what’s stopping you?” I challenged.

He gave me a seductive grin. “You’d like that wouldn’t you?” He said sneakily seething his way over to me.

I raised an eyebrow. “Like what exactly?”

He sat in front of me. I moved back. He moved closer, forcing me to the corner of the booth seat. The other end way blocked off by the railing of the stairs. He slide his knee in between my thighs and chuckled. I sucked in a breath. He leaned forward and kissed my neck and his hand slide up my right thigh. “Do you like this?” He teased as he bit my earlobe.

“Is this how you seduce your little girlfriends?” I asked, surprised at how confident my voice sounded.

He laughed sexily in my ear. “Sure it isn’t turning you on?” He tried to tempt me.

I heard my phone ring and I sighed thankfully. “Hello?”

“Is the date done?” Ashley asked.

“Uh, no. I’m still on it.” I said watching Kaolin. He smirked at me as he raised his hand on my thigh. I slapped it away, he grunted in response.

“Oh, Heath’s is waiting up for you, so make it quick.”

“No problem.” I said hanging up. I stood up, pushing Kaolin back. “Time to take me home.”

He winked. “’So urgent to get me into bed, sweetheart?” He asked sarcastically.

I sighed, refusing to answer him. I stormed off to the car.

“Slow down.” He laughed, chasing after me. He caught up and grabbed my hand.

“What are you-” He interrupted me by pressing his lips to mine. I stood stunned for a moment, but responded after. He brought my body closer to his until we were pressed together.

He pulled away from me after a few seconds and I opened my eyes dazed. He grinned crookedly. “Were you in to that, babe?” He teased.

“Why did you kiss me?” I whispered.

“Madison’s watching us.” He said softly.

“How do you know?” I questioned as he rested his forehead on mine.

“Wait for it.” As if on cue I heard someone push out of the bushes near the parking lot. He chuckled, darkly. He hugged me tighter as her footsteps faded away, kissing my neck. I giggled helplessly. “Hm, I love you so much, Rose.”

“What?” I whispered. He squeezed me as if he were telling me to play along. “I love you too?” It sounded like a question to me. I heard someone sigh behind us and then Carter appeared.

“Guess the date went well after all.” Carter mumbled as he passed us. I heard Kaolin chuckle before he pressed his lips against mine. I bit his lower lip retaliation. He growled in response and only kissed me harder. I shoved him off of me.

“Take me home.” I said sternly, but I felt my the tears on the verge of spilling over.

He laughed. “Are you going to cry?” He teased.

“This isn’t funny, Kaolin. You’re an asshole and I want nothing to do with you after tonight.” I said walking toward the car.

He followed after me. “Well too bad, gorgeous. Because from now on you’re my girl friend to lug around.” He said wrapping his arm around my shoulders. I push it off and spun around, pointing my finger at him.

“Let’s get one thing straight. If I’m going to do anything you will listen to me. And stop trying to ruin my life.” I said before walking off the rest of the way to the car.

Kaolin drove me to school because Heath convinced him it would be good to state our relationship as soon as possible. Kaolin and I were silent the entire ride to school. When we pulled into the parking lot he turned to me. “Look about last night…” He began. I studied him trying to figure out what he would say. “I didn’t mean to be such a complete asshole.” He said.

I laughed. “Oh, just half of one?” I mocked.

He laughed. “Yeah, I guess.” He lowered his eyes. “So are we okay?” He glanced up giving me an innocent look.

“Why does it matter?” I challenged.

He smirked. “Not really, but I’d like you to be comfortable while I make you uncomfortable.” He said smoothly. I smiled. He leaned over to me reaching with his hand for my neck. I leaned over and kissed him first. “Impatient?” He murmured against my lips.

“I’m only in a rush to get out of this car.” I said pulling on his hair. He moaned.

“Hm, baby don’t be so rough!” He said in a high pitched voice.

I laughed, pushing him away a bit. He grinned. “You always have to ruin everything.” I rolled my eyes.

He winked. “Alright, for real, come over here.” He gestured for me to kiss him. I hook my head.

“People already saw us. Let’s just get inside.” I said before I flung my door open. As soon as my feet hit the ground I noticed everyone was staring at me. Kaolin came around the car and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. I earned some death glares from other girls and Kaolin earned some congratulatory nods, but no one said anything. Kaolin walked me to my locker and waited for me. People were still staring at us. He played with my hair while I got my books and kissed me before he went off to class. I stared after him for a moment trying to configure how I felt about the entire situation. I guess, I was happy about us “being together”, but I couldn’t shake the feeling of guilt that we were lying.

“So I guess you aren’t burdening him?” Carter asked. I turned to face him. He was smiling, but it hadn’t reached his eyes.

“Look, I can explain-” He cut me off.

“Explain what? You’re in love with Kaolin, it’s cool.” He said softly.

I looked around before I dragged him into the supply closet. “We aren’t really together, okay.” I whispered.

“What?” He laughed.

“We aren’t really together!” I said. “He needed to get away from Madison, so he asked me to help out.”

Carter nodded as if he were scheming. “I see, so you don’t have feelings for him?” He inquired.

“Yeah.” I said without thinking. I knew I had feelings for Kaolin, but I couldn’t admit that to Carter. I felt like he liked me. And if anything, I owed it to myself to at least try to move on from Kaolin.

“Well, do you like anyone?” He squinted nervously.

I smiled. “Depends who’s asking.”

He smirked. “I’ll be in touch, Rose.” He said before he pressed his lips lightly against mine and walked away.

I touched my lips trying to process what had just happened, but I realized something. I had always felt a spark whenever Kaolin kissed me, but I felt absolutely nothing when Carter did. Is it because I didn’t know him? I mean, I thought I was interested in him…maybe I’m not.

I ran out of the room into the hall and ran straight into Kaolin. He gave me a knowing smirk. “Aw, cheating on me already, baby?” He said holding my shoulders.

“What?” I tried to ask nonchalantly.

He laughed. “Don’t worry. I told Carter you were lying because you knew that he liked you and you felt bad. He’s upset, but he should be fine.” Kaolin said pinning me in a tight hug. “You’re mine, Rose. And don’t you forget. And if you try anything to get away, I will get you.”

I gulped surprised by his tone. “Can you let me go?” I whimpered.

He pulled bad with a smile. “Anything for you, sweetheart.” He said before he smothered me with a harsh kiss and walked off.

Hey everyone! So tell me what you think of the story so far? Do you like Kaolin more or would you like to get to know more of Carter? Who do you think Rose will go for?
