Tema, Aurora and Yumi, accompanied by Lea and Seje, were on the hovercraft heading to the next stage. The next stage laid before them in the form of a land covered in endless green. Yumi looked fascinated by this land "wow...look at it. It's so green"
"then this land is more than likely Terra" said Lea "Terra is said to be poorest in both terms of wealth and development"
"but from what I've heard" said Seje walking to the edge of the hovercraft "it might be in the dumps but it has plenty of plants and flowers"
"Seje...that was harsh and girly at the same time" said Aurora
"I'm only repeating what Master has told me"
Everyone turned to Lea who turned red and coughed "well...It's rather boring really. There have practically no electronics there" Yumi then walked over to Tema
"So Tema. Will we be able to look around this place?" Tema was in thought "Tema?" Tema then reacted "is something wrong?"
"No sorry Yumi" Aurora looked worried at Tema "I was just thinking. Well from the looks of things there's not much to look at. But it does make a change from plain stone" Aurora looked at Tema putting on a brave face
"Master....please...remain strong"
As the hovercraft landed on the country a man was walking towards them. The man was fairly aged, a little short, with grey hair and moustache. He wore a tidy, but old fashion brown button jacket covering his whole torso with neat brown pants. The man had in his jacket pocket a metal canteen which he took out and drunk from for a moment "so...you lot are the latest to arrive on this continent...and the last" the man seemed to have a tone of agitation about him while from nowhere a second man appeared
"Master...you should speak with more mannerism in your voice" this made everyone react a little
"he's a sentinel. He looks similar to Violeona" commented Tema looking at this second man
This second man was average height and also had dull grey hair. His grey hair was in a short ponytail which spiked outwards. The sentinel wore a long sleeve red top which draped far down his front and back. His arms and legs appeared to be covered in yellow armour plating and he wore gloves on his hands.
The sentinel bowed "I apologize on the behalf of my master. He's rather tired of constantly meeting guests"
"Understandable" said Tema "the mistress of aqua city said the same thing"
"At least someone understands me" said the old looking man "well I might as well introduce myself. I am Shao the ruler of Terra" this made everyone react "and this here is my sentinel Lars" Lars bowed.
Lea narrowed her eyes "Lars must be incredibly strong but for him to be your sole guard" Shao smirked a bit
"Well Lars here is very strong and diligent" said Shao but then he sighed "but he is all that's really required" Shao then rubbed his head "we don't often get much attacks here" Shao then turned round "so welcome to Terra...or whatever" everyone was rather taken aback by Shao's attitude
"Compared to...Shinji and Alana" said Lea "this guy...is a bit laidback" Lars bowed again
"Please excuse my Master. It terms of activity not a lot happens here. This land is very peaceful and the citizens live in harmony. Even the sentinels here are mostly homebodies or use their powers to just help the land"
"Then that does explain his boredom to a degree" said Tema
"I'm afraid we don't have much. We do have an inn for your stay. The fights will be later this afternoon. The line-ups are posted on the board next to the inn. I'll see you later"
With that Lars left the group. Seje rubbed his head "ahh...so it's exactly as Lea said. If the leader of a country...is like this...he must be bored out of his mind"
"yeah...from the sounds of it" said Tema looking round "this land is more for either farmers or people in their retirement"
"I think it looks rather neat" said Yumi looking round "seeing the land so full of green like this. Come on Tema let us see who fights who" Tema smiled...but Aurora and Lea saw Tema's hands clench as he followed after her.
Lea then looked at Aurora "Aurora...Tema. Something happened didn't it? Something that has brought him...a lot of pain"
"how do you know?" said Aurora
"Whenever Tema...looks at Yumi...his hand would clench. He was angry...but I don't think towards her" Aurora hung her head
"yeah...he has good reason to be" Seje then spoke
"You saw anger? I just saw fear in Tema" said Seje making them both "Tema's hand...was shaking...terribly" Aurora gasped a little and gripped her hands "just what happened?" Aurora then spoke
"I can't say it..." Aurora was mildly shaking "it's...too painful to really even think about. Just please...support my master" Seje looked serious
"of course...he's my mate. I'll make sure to help him out"
"count me in too" said Lea also determined "he's...been through enough pain as it is" Seje was in thought
"her words 'it was too painful to even think about'. What did...Aurora mean by that? Did she mean...too painful for her"
A little further along from the land the group were walking along a simple dirt road. It came to a sort of plaza where the inn stood before them. In-front of the inn was a board which Yumi ran too. Yumi was checking it over but look puzzled "Tema, Tema come look there's two sets of matches"
"there is" Tema looked at the match-ups "oh yeah there is" Seje, Aurora and Lea was just approaching "hey guys they've got the line-up posted"
Seje, Aurora and Lea walked over and examined the board. Lea looked at it "so the sixteen fights are broken up in sets of two. The first half of fights are this morning with the second half in the afternoon"
"So let's see" said Seje putting his finger on the board "it looks like Blaze and Jo are in the first match"
"Me and Aurora are in the second. With you and Lea in third" said Tema following "and in the fourth..." his hand shook a little
"Mas...ter" said Yumi slowly seeing Zack's name on the fourth match "Master is last"
Aurora quickly tried to break the mood "so where's Kairi on the board?"
"I'm the second match of the second half" they turned left to see Kairi quite happy "so I can come watch your matches and then you can come to watch mine"
"yeah okay Kairi" said Yumi happily which Kairi noted
"You look quite happy today" Kairi rubbed her head "and I think it's all to do with the person you're hanging out with" Yumi nodded while Tema looked worried "what's the matter?"
"no it's nothing"
Tema looked at the board for the time "well...it's says 11AM, that's about an hour and a half from now"
"Really...that long?" said Lea before making a heavy sigh "if they had at least some books I could read"
"well, they do have some great chicken" Lea then brightened up
"wait...chicken? You said Chicken!? Seje let's go...now!" Seje then grabbed Lea's chair "chicken awaits" Lea was pushed along at a fast pace
"alright I'm moving, I'm moving
Tema was left a bit bewildered "I guess...Lea...is a chicken fan"
"What...gave you...that idea?" said Kairi "well nevermind. Come on let's go get some tea and just relax for a bit"
"Sounds good" said Aurora "shall we go?" as they about to walk a presence could be felt
"Actually would you mind waiting a moment?" it was Violeona
"oh...Violeona?" said Tema surprised "what are you doing here?"
"I'm here to watch over the tournaments as added security. But I'd also like to talk with you Tema for a moment?"
"Okay sure. Aurora, Yumi you go on ahead and check out the food"
"Alright" said Yumi waving "we'll see you in a minute"
Tema watched them go with a sense of sadness while Violeona spoke "that girls spirit...has been significantly improved"
"Violeona" said Tema quietly "when you said...to protect Yumi...what did you mean?" Violeona saw the uneasiness in his eyes
"You learnt of her fate...haven't you? What I'm here to tell you is this. The possibility...it's completely true" Tema's recoiled and then clenched his hands
"Dam...Dam..." said Tema quietly but angrily "so that means...he really will...do it?" Violeona put her hand on his shoulder
"Tema...take this to heart. As cruel as it sounds...it means...you can save her"
Violeona then began to walk away but Tema spoke "How do you know...I'm the only one who can save her?"
"the strength of your heart...is mighty indeed. That much...I can tell" Violeona continued walking "believe in yourself...just I do in you" Violeona with a jump disappeared from sight. Tema was just stood
"so...there really isn't anything I can do?" Tema then smashed the board with his hand "no-one...should have to go through that" from behind a nearby building Eve was watching
"Jeez. Whatever it is surrounding that Yumi sentinel...has made the boy very mad" Eve went round the corner "It's...strange" Eve put a hand on her heart "When I watch that boy...I felt something...almost pleasant"
At least an hour and a bit later the group of eight, for the first half, were gathered at a large but yet simple arena. The arena was also simple with only a couple of people coming to watch. Tema, Aurora and Yumi who had just arrived looked round. Tema looked round "this...is the arena?"
"Yeah...we're a bit underwhelmed ourselves" Tema turned to see Jo and Blaze. Jo waved to them "hey there everyone"
"hello there Jo and Blaze" said Yumi happily which made Blaze frown "what's wrong mister Blaze?" Jo waved out her hands
"no it's just lunch didn't agree with him that's all" said Jo faking a small tone of laughter which Tema noticed Blaze met eye-contact with him showing his great anger.
The contestants began rolling with Lea and Seje and even Kairi rolling in with them. Lea and Seje gave a friendly wave to them. Tema waved them hello "hey there guys you made it"
"Hi there Tema" said Kairi in a friendly manner
"yeah hey there" said Seje in a friendly motion "Once we win this set, we're off to the semi-finals" it was then they heard two claps alerting them all to Lars who stood on the arena.
"Attention everyone. The matches for the first-half of the quarter-finals...will begin shortly. The rules are the same as before, you lose if you surrender of fall out of the ring. Allow me to introduce the judge Violeona" Violeona emerged with a friendly smile "she will make sure no foul play is involved" Lars then took out a piece of paper "Now for the first match can the sentinels of Jo and a lucy step up"
Blaze stepped up to the ring while a young man opponent stepped up. This was rather muscular like Blaze and wore a blue vest, with the name Boxer, and shorts. The man also wore thick red, gloves covering his palm but he oddly had long white hair braided. Blaze observed the name "Boxer...is that really your name? They do need to come up with some better names"
"I don't mind it" said Boxer "it's very easy to remember. I'm guessing they call you something original" Blaze's arms ignited
"the names Blaze" Boxer looked a bit surprised
"there's goes my theory. Although a question, how is it your arms are on fire but your shirt is perfectly fine?" Blaze looked at his clothes, shrugged his arms and smirked
"Fire proof I guess" Blaze then shot out a beam of flame which Boxer avoided and then rushed forward.
From the ceiling of the arena, through a large hole, were Rafiel and Eve. Rafiel watched the fight "this is rather interesting. These two are polar opposites in fighting styles. The fire sentinel requires a distance but the fist type requires close-range"
"This does work just in-case we fight the fire sentinel" said Eve "it seems everyone is gathered here...including the Cirrus boy"
"yes...he is here" said Rafiel "I'll be keeping a careful eye on him"
The fight was quite even for the most part. Boxer was vest and arms were burnt while Blaze held his chest from a strong right hook. Boxer then rushed in, Blaze surrounded himself in flames "that won't work" Boxer punched right through the flames but saw Blaze had disappeared
"Made you look" then Boxer felt a strong blow sending him off his feet and out of the ring. The flames then died down to see Blaze with his leg swung out "and the game is mine"
Blazes then began to struggle which prompted Jo to go to him and help him up. Lars then spoke "a splendid first fight. With that Blaze wins the match and advances to the next round of the competition" Boxer got up off the ground
"I commend you on your victory. Let us meet again" Blaze gave a nod as Boxer then walked out with his master. Jo then supported Blaze back to the group with Kairi giving Blaze a round of applause
"That was amazing Blaze. You were really great" Jo0 remarked
"thanks for that..." Blaze then cringed "ow, ow..." Yumi looked worried as she asjed
"are you okay mister Blaze?" Jo helped him sit down
"it's alright Yumi. That Boxer guy hurt a couple of my ribs that's all"
"Don't worry the big guy is fine" said Jo encouragingly "just give him a bit of rest" Yumi then nodded
Lars then spoke up "can the sentinels of Tema and Brian step up please?" Aurora looked at Blaze
"Sorry about this Blaze. If I wasn't next I would've healed your injuries" said Aurora "just wait until after the match please"
"Don't worry about it" said Blaze with an appreciative smile "you just concentrate on the fight. I'll be fine"
"good luck Aurora" said Seje waving to her and with that Aurora stepped up.
Aurora's opponent came in the form of a mature looking woman with short blue hair but with a long fringe. The girl looked to be wearing a blue, short sleeved hooded jacket with ¾ quarter pants. The girl looked rather confident "the names Rayne. And I'm going to be your opponent today"Rayne then took out what appeared to be a machine gun "now let's get going" Aurora immediately began dodging the endless energy bullets that Rayne seemed to be firing.
Aurora seemed to make it look easy as she continuously evaded the bullets before running up to the unaware Rayne. Aurora spun round and kicked Rayne in the gut making her stagger backwards. It appeared that Rayne was in a great deal of pain because Aurora simply walked to her, pushed her over sending her outside the ring.
Seje looked a bit underwhelmed "well...that was a bit short. I don't know I was expecting some fireworks"
"well" said Lea as Aurora stepped down "these stages are designed to weed out the competition. Don't worry the real competition will soon begin" Aurora walked over to the group
"Nice one Aurora" said Seje
"thanks Seje. It was over rather quickly really" said Aurora happily "Now Blaze, to see to you" Aurora knelt down to Blaze and began bathing his chest in green light. Blaze felt a velvet like feeling spread through his chest
"oohhh...this is definitely very soothing" said Blaze closing his eyes
Lars called out for the third time "can the sentinels of Lea and Christopher please step up to the ring?" Seje walked up to the arena flexing his arms
"let's see who my opponent is" as his opponent stepped up "and it's a lovely lady?" the sentinel looked like a mature teenage girl with an average build. The sentinel wore a white and red striped t-shirt with a red bow on the shoulder and small black camouflage shorts. The sentinel had blue eyes and short blonde hair.
Seje had a friendly smile "you look like a pretty thing. I'm Seje. What's your name?"
"Erm...it's a cloud sir" said the sentinel in a high pitched young male voice "please...don't go too hard on me" everyone was caught by surprise
"You're a...dude? How come...you're wearing girls clothes?"
"Well...these are comfortable that's all" Cloud then raised his hands to which a long weapon launcher appeared in his hands "fire!" a large orange rocket blasted out. Seje responded by making a wall of earth to block it
"this...is just strange"
Back in the audience everyone was quite bewildered. Jo then spoke "a...girl sentinel...that's actually a boy"
"Every sentinel to their own...I guess" said Tema a little bewildered "I wouldn't actually be surprised if there's a tomboy like him wandering around" Kairi then spoke
"so...well done on passing everyone" said Kairi happily "I hope I can make it through too"
"I'm sure you will" said Lea "that sentinel of yours is not who'd I'd like to fight in a match" Kairi then made the observation
"so after this...is the fourth match. But I don't see anyone else. Who's in the final match"
The look of anger filled the air which Kairi noticed "what's the matter everyone? Who's the last one?"
"that would be me" said a familiar mocking voice. They turned to the doorway to see Zack walking through "the best always comes last"
"Zack" said Tema in bitterness "you sure took your time"
"I know, I know" said Zack smugly "but I'm here now. You may stare in awe" Kairi then looked very annoyed
"so you're Zack" said Kairi very cross "why did you leave Yumi in Aqua city?"
"Who?" said Zack picking his ear "wait...wait...oh yes" Zack turned to Yumi who had an unhappy face "it's you isn't it. I thought I ordered you to stay in Aqua city"
Yumi looked quite fearful to which Tema shielded her with his arm "how about you rephrase that. You didn't order her...you abandoned her! You jerk!"
"What I do is none of your business" said Zack smugly "In-fact you may all just go home. I'm going to win this after all"
"Zack" said Tema holding back his anger "why didn't you tell her?" Yumi turned to Tema while Zack walked away from them shrugging out his arms
"I don't know what you're talking about"
Eve from her position was quite disgusted "no wonder the group of humans are appalled with him"
"And...we know who the Cirrus boy is angry with" said Rafiel looking at Tema's clenched fist "and no wonder. That boy abandoned his own sentinel"
"So...the Cirrus boy has been looking after the young girl?" said Eve
"yes...and it appears he fears for her safety...greatly" said Rafiel "he stood against me...for a sentinel which doesn't belong to him"
"That's...odd" said Eve to which she heard a beep "huh...I got a message" Eve took out a small device "it's from Violeona. It says...if you want to witness the strength of heart...watch Tema very carefully" Rafiel looked at Violeona's eyes
"She's serious alright...just what is going to..." Rafiel then stopped "Eve...can you...feel that?"
"Yes...a power...a very strong power. I felt it before..." with a nod they turned back to the arena.
Seje had beaten Cloud by knocking him out of the ring with a solid wall of earth. Cloud looked happy though "I had a lot of fun" Cloud then waved frantically "thanks for the fight" Seje awkwardly waved
"well that was a weird fight" Seje turned to the group "well I made it. Through to the next round guys" he felt the heavy mood amongst everyone "what did I miss?"
"nothing" said Lea "just him" Seje looked at Zack and narrowed his eyes
"oh that's why. No wonder I want to punch something. The sight of this guy makes my stomach turn" Tema looked at Yumi who looked unsure and very conflicted
"Yumi..." said Tema reaching out to Yumi "I...have to tell you...something" he was cut off as Lars called out
"The final match will now begin" Violeona looked up at Eve and Rafiel and nodded with a serious look "can the sentinels of Zack and Larry please step forward?"
The first sentinel was a muscular looking woman. The woman had short dark hair and wore a purple tank top with blue bottoms. For a moment nothing happened. Lars spoke "Can the sentinel of Zack please step forward?" everyone and Tema turned to Yumi who began slowly moving forward
"It's...my turn...now" Yumi then felt a grip at her arm "Tema..." as Yumi turned around...she gasped. Tema's face was hidden...but his arm shook...very horribly.
Everyone watched carefully as Yumi looked at Tema "Tema...let me go" Yumi tried shaking him off...but Tema didn't let go "Tema...it's...my turn" just then a presence could be felt. Everyone turned...to see a new person stood before them. This person from behind had long silver hair and wore only dark leather pants with red curved stripes. Lars then spoke
"Excuse sir" talking to the silver haired person "you're not meant to be here"
"No this is exactly where's he meant to be" said Zack making everyone turn to him "now Tsume...deal with the sentinel woman please" Tsume turned round to show a young man's face. Tsume then simply flexed his arm...and in an instant he disappeared.
Tsume then reappeared then appeared in the same spot...but his sentinel woman opponent was sent off her feet...with blood flying off her. The sentinel woman landed heavily with three cut marks across her torso. The sentinel was quickly carried out while Lars looked a bit perturbed "I don't know what place you have here...Tsume is it? But you have to..." Lars then turned to his right and caught a tablet thrown at him from Violeona "what's this?" the tablet was already on and as Lars read it... "what?" Lars then turned to Zack "you may have qualified for the next stage...but you've got some explaining to do"
Seje and Kairi were bewildered while Yumi looked very confused "what's going on? How did...he win? How did...Mas-"
"Don't Yumi" said Tema hiding a great pit of anger in his voice "Don't...call him...that word" Tema then looked at Zack as he approached closer
"What's...going on?" asked Yumi looking very scared while Zack sighed
"fine since he won't tell you...I will. The person you see before you...is Tsume...my sentinel"
This brought great anger amongst everyone especially Tema but poor Yumi...looked destroyed "no...no...it can't be" Yumi then fell to her knees which Tema went down with her "but...you're my... we performed...the process"
"you're right" said Zack "I did grab your band...but here's the thing. You have to willing to make the bond" Yumi's eyes widened "but...just in-case" Tema then looked at him as he moved his hand to his chest
"Zack...don't do it" said Tema "the damage has already been done" Zack however simply continued his motion. Zack put his hand on his heart
"I hereby" Zack then crossed his heart "perform this rite" Zack then opened his hand "to unbind my soul" Zack then placed his palm on his heart "from yours" Yumi then appeared to freeze on the spot...and simply collapsed to the ground.
Tema quickly rushed to her "Yumi...Yumi come on" Tema then picked her up "wake up...ah" Tema's face looked horrified "no...no" Yumi's eyes were vacant and empty. Jo and Kairi were fair to say rather confused
"What happened to Yumi? Why did she just...freeze?" asked Kairi to which Seje spoke in sheer bitterness
"To us sentinels...nothing is more important...than the bond between sentinel and master" said Seje looking unnaturally angry "what...he just performed...was the sentinel...severing process" Kairi and Jo gasped "and for poor Yumi...she just couldn't bare it"
"but...that's not...the main problem" said Tema "what really...ticks me off...is Yumi...wasn't even his sentinel"
Tema rested Yumi down and then walked to Zack "you...how...could you?"
"what's that...I can't hear you" Zack said mockingly with his hand over his ear
"Yumi...wasn't even your sentinel. You treated her like a tool...and exploited her. You didn't give a single dam about her...but she still saw you as her master."
"I know...and that's the pathetic thing about her" Tema's anger soared to an all-time high as he walked to Zack "she was so weak...she couldn't even see that. What a sad thing" Tema stopped in-front of Zack "awww...are you angry?"
"You...how could you!?" Tema then clenched his hand "BASSSTTTAAARRRDDDD!!!!" Tema exploded with rage and smashed Zack's face with every fibre of his strength. Zack was sent tumbling along the floor with great force almost smashing into the wall.
Rafiel reacted in shock "Eve...Eve. Did you...feel that?" Rafiel turned to Eve "Eve..." Eve was shaking "I'll take that as a yes"
"no...it was...his eyes. Look at his eyes" said Eve mildly trembling and as Rafiel looked...he too recoiled "I never felt...anything so...strong. Ever"
"is this...what Violeona wants to show us?" they made Violeona's gaze and she shook her head "no...there's more" Violeona nodded
"Rafiel...this human" said Eve slowly "...there's something different about this one" Zack began to pick himself up "despite...Tema's appearance. There wasn't a shred of anger...in his body" Zack was bleeding from his cheek while he clung to his arm
"and all...from his feelings towards the girl sentinel" said Rafiel "I...don't want to turn away"
Zack cringed and flinched in pain very angry "you...little git" Zack then got off the wall marching to Tema "how dare you strike me"
"if you ask me" said Tema "you got off lucky. Because there's plenty here...who'd do a lot more than this"
"All I'm doing is what I want" said Zack annoyed running at Tema "you little pest!" Zack then struck back at Tema...but stopped an inch from his face. Zack was rooted to the spot his legs shaking like jelly "you...didn't even flinch"
"Why would I?" said Tema glaring at him "from a coward like you" Zack retreated backwards
"you little!" Zack turned to Tsume "Tsume take care of this git now!"
Tsume simply disappeared and reappeared before Tema. Tsume then flexed his arms and thrust a punch forward but...Violeona suddenly appeared in-front of Tsume. Violeona partially took out her sword, struck Tsume with the handle, deflecting Tsume backwards. Zack now looked more annoyed "oh great. Another one? Are you pissed as well?" Zack then saw Violeona's sword, literally, an inch from his face making him freeze in fear
"the greatest disgrace for any sentinel...is to be severed from their master" Violeona with reluctance retracted her sword "and what's worse...Yumi still believed you were her master" Violeona put down her sword "now...you are in the next stage. But your position...and life are hanging by a thread. Now get out of oue sight!" Zack looked defeated and marched out of the arena

The feeling of disgust and anger filled the air. Seje clenched his hands "so...that's why. Aurora couldn't speak of it" Kairi was crying
"how could...anyone...do something...so cruel?" said Kairi tearfully "She was...only a girl"
"What's worse" said Blaze "we knew it was going to bad" Blaze's arms ignited "but we hope...it wouldn't come to this" Aurora then walked to Tema
"Master...let's take her back to the inn" Aurora put a hand on his shoulder "it's better than letter lie here" Tema gave a silent nod. Tema then simply turned around and began carrying Yumi silently out of the area.
Jo just watched Tema go "Blaze...should we...follow him?"
"I..." said Lea slowly "I...don't know"
"yes...you should. All of you" said Violeona seriously "if you wish to witness his strength of will...then follow him and be his reminder...that's he not alone"
"yeah...I think we should go" said Kairi "he's our friend...and we can't leave him. So let's go" with nods all round, everyone began to follow...Violeona also joining the group.
Rafiel looked a bit down "such a heartless fate. Not satisfied with destroying the girls spirit. That guy...more-or-less shattered her to a mere shell"
"this is why...I joined the S.L.F" said Eve angrily "to protect sentinels from humans like him" Eve's anger then dropped "but saying that...something isn't right?" Rafiel turned to her
"what do you mean Eve?"
Eve looked to the group was they leaving "We assume that humans are Zack, uncaring people who use sentinels as tools. But then...there's Tema. What does make him?" Rafiel crossed his arms and thought
"yeah...I get what you're saying" said Rafiel "Tema...is unlike anyone I've seen before" a beeping occurred in Rafiel's pocket "what's this?" he took out a device "we've been summoned back to HQ" Eve then stood up but began to walk after Tema and friends "Eve?"
"Rafiel...I must go. I have to know...what this strength of heart is. And whenever is it I look at Tema" Eve put a hand on her heart "I feel this...odd sensation" Rafiel put a hand on her shoulder
"then go Eve. I will lie about your absence to leader. Tell me what you find out" Eve nodded as Rafiel took out a green sphere on a pad "I'll see you later" with that Rafiel left.
Eve was left by herself watching Tema in the far distance "that attack...was full of rage and anger...but his eyes. Were full...of only pain" Tema's glare from before had tears emerging "Tema...what will you do now?"
