So how was everyone's Halloween? Mine was great. My mom's birthday is on Halloween so we had a bash and all. :)

Anyway enough of that! Enjoy!

Chapter 6

ADDIE’S POV

I woke up the next morning to a loud knocking on my front door. It was so loud or rather firm that I could hear it from my newly painted bedroom.

Wait.

How could I be in my bedroom when we were painting it last night and I didn’t remember putting everything back in place? The last thing I remembered was falling asleep on my sofa waiting for Julian to finish the painting.

I looked around. My bed was in exactly the same place it was since yesterday.  So was my dressing table with the mirror and seat. The small cream sofa in the corner of my room was in its place as well. Even my alarm clock and side table was in its place. Did Julian do all this last night? Plus he had obviously carried me to the bed.

Oh my gosh. I looked down abruptly and sighed in relief. I was still in the same clothes as last night. At least he didn’t change me into my pajamas. THAT would be too embarrassing.

I remembered the knocking and shuffled to the door in my post-wake-up haze.

My eyes met Julian’s as I pulled the door open. I momentarily cursed him for looking so good in the morning. His hair was messed up tactfully, in that bed hair but much neater kind of way. He was wearing tight blue jeans and a blue grey shirt that made his eyes look bottomless. He was carrying a brown bag on top of a white rectangular box.

“Morning! I brought breakfast,” he greeted cautiously holding up the white box and brown bag in his hands.

“Morning… why are you awake so early?” I groaned and let him in putting my hands through my hair. I must have looked like a train wreck. I was still wearing yesterday’s painting clothes meaning I still had yesterday’s paint from fooling around.

“Sorry I had to wake you Addie, I thought you’d already be awake since its almost 10:30…” he reasoned with me.

“Ten-thirty?!” I almost shrieked. “Is it okay if I go wash up before we have breakfast? Just make yourself comfortable,” I said running off into my bedroom bathroom.

“And thank you for doing the furniture!” I shouted from my room as I turned back towards him before I entered the bathroom.

I took a short but soothing shower and quickly dried my hair. I put on a pair of khaki shorts and a white razor back shirt. I paired my outfit with a pair of low cut converse and a hoodie.

I applied a tiny bit of eyeliner and pink lip gloss. I left my hair down in golden brown waves since I didn’t have time to straighten it with Julian out there waiting. It would be rude to keep him there alone for too long. I hadn’t even said thank you properly.

Why was he here anyway? The room looked finished and we hadn’t even talked of meeting today? Or had I forgotten yesterday during our conversation? Shit. I must have forgotten. Poor Julian. Doing all the hard work last night then tucking me for bed and now I have to be a jerk and forget our plans? If only I could just remember.

I closed my eyes and tapped the fingers of my right hand in quick succession on top of the dresser. I let out a deep breath, I just couldn’t remember any Saturday plan I had agreed to. Damn it.

I walked out of the room to see that the white box he had brought was half a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts while the brown bag was from Starbucks. He had already spread the food on the small dining table. There were two glazed doughnuts on a plate next to a Venti Green Tea Frappuccino. Glazed doughnuts and a green tea Frap. Those were my both favorites!

He was sitting in the same chair as last night across from the food sipping his coffee while staring out into space. I walked towards him slowly still surprised.

“How did you know?”I asked curiously.

“Know what?” he asked back with a confused face as I went to take the seat in from of him while picking up a donut.

“That I love green tea frappuccinos and glazed doughnuts?”

“Oh. Uhm, lucky guess, I guess.” He chuckled. Yeah right. How did he know?

“Really Julian,” I said taking a sip of my frappuccino while rolling my eyes.

“Well, the truth is, when we’ve carpooled, you’ve ordered a green tea frappuccino everytime except for twice when you ordered Chocolate Chip. And every time the gang buys doughnuts you don’t care for them unless there are glazed ones,” he explained as if I was asking why one plus one equals two.

“Oh,” I said dumbly leaving my mouth hanging open. He had noticed what I ordered?  “Th-Thanks Julian. And for last night too. You definitely did more work than I did.”

“That was nothing. Besides, you’re going to pay me back one of these days,” he declared chuckling.

“Pay you back how?” I replied suspiciously raising an eyebrow. Just wondering what embarrassing thing he might make me do made me cringe internally.

“I don’t know…yet.” And he flashed me a peculiar smile. Something between devilish and angelic. Is that even possible?

After eating I was planning on doing some grocery shopping after dropping off my laundry at the cleaners. But I was honestly enjoying Julian’s company and didn’t want to just send him away after he was thoughtful enough to bring breakfast. Plus there was the whole I might have forgotten our plans thing.

“Can I ask you a question? And will you promise not to be mad at me.” I asked cautiously.

“Sure. Shoot.” He said after taking a sip of his coffee.

“Did we..make plans today?” I inquired staring at my plate.

He looked confused for a minute before his eyes cleared up as understanding washed over.

“Uhm, no but I thought you’d wake up late and I thought I’d thank you for last night’s dinner.” He explained. His cheeks developed a pinkish color. Was he actually blushing?

“Plus, I’m sure that if you miss more than a single meal, the wind will be able to sweep you away or something,” he added with a smirk.

 My eyes narrowed.

“Haha,” I said without humor while rolling my eyes. “Anyway, are you busy today?” I questioned him.

“No, aside from the normal school work, I don’t have anything for the weekend. Why’d you ask?” he inquired.

“Uhm..I was planning on doing some grocery shopping this morning. Do you want to come? Maybe you might want to pick up some things too?” I asked him shyly. Boy if he said no, I would be so embarrassed.

“Actually, that would be great. I’d love to come. And my refrigerator is sort of empty anyway.” He answered.

I was relieved he said yes. And then there was this other emotion…I just couldn’t but my finger on it.

“Great.” I replied smiling at him.

JULIAN’S POV

We were at the dairy section. I had already dropped a carton of full cream milk into my cart. Adrienne was a few feet away staring at the Nutrition Facts section of two different cartons. Her eyes were narrowed in concentration and probably having an internal conversation about which one would be more beneficial.

Talk about being a perfectionist. I chuckled.

“What?” she said frowning. I decided it would be better if I didn’t reply.

She finally chose one and we moved on to the cheeses.

Then I got the best idea. She said her favorite food was lasagna! Maybe I could cook that for her sometime. Like one night sometime this week. I picked up a pack of shredded mozzarella for the lasagna.

I hoped she’d like it.

After we had paid for our groceries, we had to go home and load them into our respective fridges immediately because someone decided to load up on the mint chocolate chip ice cream.

I offered to carry her stuff upstairs for her but she refused and I resigned to following her cute back with my eyes.

Cute back? No Julian. No. I couldn’t get started on this again. We can’t be together. And its not as if she likes me that way. Or rather the way I think I’m starting to like her.

Damn it.

“Adrienne!” I called. “Dinner at my place, eight o’clock, I’m making lasagna.” I smiled cockily trying to put on a confident front when all I really wanted to do was cross my fingers, hoping she’d agree to it.

“Sure, I’ll bring a movie, ” she replied, much to my relief.

She winked and continued upstairs. I just stood there in place for a while.

Dinner for the second consecutive night wasn’t that bad, right?

I mean, if it was so bad, why does it feel so right?

Song for this chapter: Taking Chances by Celine Dion (Glee Cover)

You don't know about my past, and

I don't have a future figured out.

And maybe this is going too fast.

And maybe it's not meant to last,

But what do you say to taking chances,

What do you say to jumping off the edge?

Never knowing if there's solid ground below

Or hand to hold, or hell to pay,

What do you say,

What do you say?

I just want to start again,

And maybe you could show me how to try,

And maybe you could take me in,

Somewhere underneath your skin?
