Chapter 39- The Company.

"Wake up. Michael, wake up." Brooke whispered while trying to shake me awake. I shrugged her hand off of my shoulder, hoping she'd leave me alone.

"Leave me be." I grumbled with my eyes still closed.

"Your parents are coming soon to see Lexi, come on, get up, look lively." Brooke demanded. I cracked my eyes open and groaned.

"Seriously?"

"Yes. Stop being so grouchy and get a move on." Brooke scowled.

"You can't blame me. I've hardly had any sleep on this God damn chair. All I keep thinking about is Lexi and throughout the three hours I've had asleep, I woke up numerous times after having nightmares of my dead baby and the love of my life in a coma. And then to wake up and realise its not just a nightmare, but a reality aswell, you've got to give me a break." I stated bluntly. Brooke looked at me with sympathy.

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay, you mean well." I smiled. "And look, I'm getting up and getting ready just for you." I said. Brooke smiled before hitting me across the head softly.

"Sarcastic fu-" Brooke was suddenly cut off by the door opening and the sound of my mothers shrill voice cutting through the air.

"Michael." My mother gasped before speeding her way to me and capturing me in her arms. "Are you okay, darling?" My mother asked. I nodded my head against hers, hoping I wouldn't break down in front of her.

"It's okay, pal." My father came up and clapped my back, like he could sense how much I was trying to keep the tears in. I parted from my mother to give my dad a tight smile.

"Go and get yourself cleaned up, you look a mess." My mother stated. I gave her a glare before going up to Lexi and giving her a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Morning, beautiful. I would talk to you for longer this morning but the witch is here telling me I need to clean myself up because I look a mess." I chuckled while my mother gasped. "I love you." I stated before making my way into the next room to get cleaned up.

About ten minutes later, I was ready and feeling more refreshed. My eyes were red, puffy and bloodshot and the bags under my eyes didn't go unnoticed. I needed to shave and my hair was a mess.

I pushed open the door. My parents were around the bed holding each of Lexi's hand whispering sweet nothing's in her ear. She was still as white and lifeless as she was yesterday, which I hated to know. I was happy my parents were here, helping Lexi just as much as me.

Today, my heart felt heavier. Waking up and knowing nothing had improved with Lexi made my hopes disperse just a little. I know it was stupid, of course she wasn't going to improve over night, and I knew no change was better than anything worse happening.

"Come over here, love." My mother waved me over with tears in her eyes. Her eyes were red, so I knew she must have been crying. She was even dabbing her nose with a tissue.

As soon as I stepped across the room, the door opened, and this time it wasn't Brooke, it was Daniel. My body began shaking in anger, and before I could stop myself, I went up to his face in an instant. He was Jake's best friend. I hated my own brother for that.

"Were you a part of this?" I said, my voice cold, distant and deathly. I pointed to Lexi.

"No!" Daniel gasped. "Why the hell would I have been involved in Jake's crazy ideas. I never knew he was doing this, if I did I would have stopped him, you know I wouldn't have done anything like this!" Daniel continued while pointing to Lexi frantically.

"Don't you ever let that man near you, or us, or Lexi, ever again." My mother hissed. Daniel nodded with an innocent face. I looked away in disgust.

"I don't know whether I believe you or not." I whispered.

"I am your brother, Michael. Please believe me, I wouldn't have done a thing like this, never would I have done this!"

"Did you know anything about this? Anything at all?" I asked. Daniel looked to the ceiling for a second, I assumed he was thinking.

"I don't...Wait, I knew his girlfriend left him and he was trying to find her. I don't know if that girl was Lexi." Daniel explained. I looked away as I couldn't stand to look into his eyes. He knew something. "Please, Michael. I wasn't a part of this." Daniel pleaded.

"You may not have been, but I still can't stand to look at you. After all that's happened, you know." I stated.

"Michael, please. You can't do this to me, you know I didn't do anything and I would never do anything to hurt Lexi. I hate Jake for what he did."

"I don't care anymore, Daniel. Please just leave." I demanded.

"Michael-"

"Leave." Daniel sighed before throwing his hands in the air and making his way to the door.

"I just wanted to tell you Jake is in critical condition. He may not survive." Daniel said before opening the door and making his way out of the room. I let out a long breath as soon as he was gone.

As soon as he mentioned Jake, as soon as anyone mentioned Jake I just wanted to go up to him and smash him in the face. Atleast I knew he may not even make it. I didn't want to wish death upon anybody, but Jake ruined everything I wanted and needed, and it was his time to pay. I wanted him dead, I wanted karma to come around and fuck him up, like he fucked everything of mine up.

"Don't let it get to you, son. I'll talk to Daniel later." My father, Dave, reassured. I nodded and let out a frustrated sigh before making my way to Lexi.

"Did you hear that, love? Jake may not survive. You can be free forever. We can be free forever." I stated. After staring at Lexi and knowing she wasn't going to show any signs of life, I turned away.

"Michael, she isn't going to wake up right away. This is going to take time, she was in a nasty accident. She's fighting for her life, not peacefully sleeping. Give her some time, patience is a virtue." My mother explained. I closed my eyes briefly before looking into her eyes. My eyes watered with tears and my lip began to tremble.

I felt like a four year old boy when he lost his favourite toy. I felt like an emotional girl. But I knew this was completely different, this was love, heartbreak and despair, which was much more deadly. More pain was involved, everything seemed to change before my eyes and I couldn't keep up with it, up with life.

"I just want her to wake up, mum. What if she never wakes up?" I croaked. My mother sighed before pulling me into her arms.

"In all things, it is better to hope than to be living in despair. Don't think like that, Michael. You know her more than anyone, and out of all people, I thought you would be the one to know she can fight for her life. As long as you're beside her, she can wake up, I know she can."

"Why do I feel like the only one in pain?"

"There are people in every country, every town and every city, in every house and hut and slum and park bench, on every road and street all over the earth who are in despair or heart break because they've lost the person they loved the most. You haven't lost that, you've still got hope, which is more than what other people have." Mum whispered in my ear.

"She's right. You've got to have hope, not just for Lexi, but for yourself too." Dave explained. I didn't even know how he heard my mother.

"Now, don't cry, darling."

"Sorry." I sniffed.

"Don't be silly. We all need to let go once in a while. That's the first time I've ever seen you cry since you were ten years old when you fell of a curb and knocked one of your molars out." My mother memorised. I glared at her before chuckling slightly.

"I remember." I stated.

"I know you love her more than anything. I'm so happy you've found someone to love." My mother softly explained.

"Thanks, mum."

"Are you going home tonight to get a few things? We can look after Lexi?" Dad suggested.

"No. I'm not leaving her, dad." My father sighed before nodding. He knew he wasn't going to change my mind.

"Atleast go and get breakfast."

"I will later." I lied. I wasn't hungry at all, and I wasn't going to leave Lexi.

"Okay. We'll be back tomorrow." My mother promised before retrieving her bag and making her way to the door, with my father trailing behind, hot on her tail.

"Are you sure you'll be okay?" My mother asked with a worried expression on her face.

"I'll be fine, I promise, I'm a big boy." I stated, exasperated. Mum didn't look too convinced.

"He's fine, dear. Come on, lets go, I'm hungry." My dad whined before pulling her away. He winked my way before they were both out of site.

Soon, I was alone again, just how I liked it. I made my way over to Lexi.

"I'm not leaving you, babe. People will visit you, people will leave afterwards but I'm going to stay until you wake up. I have hope for you, I have hope you're going to wake up. Maybe-maybe we can try for a family again. We can get married. Everything will be okay, I'll wait for you."
