CHAPTER 12:
Escape
“I never intended this to happen. If I have known it from the start then I shouldn’t have helped Luka before.” This is what’s Gakupo been thinking over and over again. He is currently locked inside his own room with guards blocking his own doors. His room is located on the 5th storey so he can’t even escape from the windows. While sitting in the corner thinking of what he have done, he also thought of taking his own life.
But will that give him positive results? He is a scholar and knows better that his brain is useless if his dead. He can’t change anything if he tried killing himself so he ended up reminiscing his past.
What’s your problem?
“No mother, I just wanted to end this Gypsy era so that no more sacrifices will be done.”
Are you regretting your choices now?
“I chose this path. I’ll end this myself until I die.”
Don’t over excel yourself. Remember you can’t do jobs alone. You’ll need help to accomplish everything at ease.
“Who would help someone like me?”
Just trust yourself son and the fate.
Gakupo looked at the ceiling with a regret face. “I’m being delusional now? Talking to myself; this is the worst case I never think of.” He sighed while thinking of his own mother. “I need to get out from here. I want to know more on what’s really happening. If fate really roots for me then this is the right time for a help.”
As he was about to lose hope, the doors from his room opened that made him surprise. What made him more shock was seeing a person he didn’t expect to see.
“I see you're doing great there my friend.” Kaito greeted Gakupo with a smile while holding the knock out guard and some keys; “We don’t have much time, this is a great opportunity for an escape. What do you think?”
Gakupo suddenly smiled and stood up to where his sitting; “Fate really responded to me faster than I expected hehehe…”
“Huh?” – Kaito
“Never mind, I’ll tag along.” He walked along side with Kaito going to where Len is.
Meanwhile Meiko and Len keep knocking out some guards surrounding at them.
“Heh! You’ll never win in a fight with this number of guards! Hahaha!” Luka laughs as she watches both of them still fighting at the guards and couldn’t get close to even Ruko.
“If this continues we will lose stamina for sure!” Meiko clashes her sword to some guards while shouting at Len; “We should retreat!”
“But I need to find my sister!” Len is struggling to maintain his defense, but worrying at Rin’s sake is making him loose focus.
Both Meiko and Len met in the middle facing their back to each other.
“We need a distraction to escape; your sister was already sent at the Dragon’s Lair so I can assure you she’s no longer here..!” Meiko whispered at Len while they look at the guards surrounding them.
“Then you’ll need our help?!” a voice suddenly echoed throughout the hallway. It was Kaito’s voice with Gakupo supporting him at the back.
Kaito rushes to the scene and throw some smoke bombs that made everyone’s vision blurry.
“Don’t let them escape!! Stand firm and arrest them!!!” Luka made a final order. The guards tried looking everywhere but they couldn’t see a thing.
“Come now this way!!” Kaito gave the sign to where they need to go. They all run towards the gates at the end of the hallway. The rest tried to capture them but it’salready too late.
“Bastards!! How dare they ruin the sanctuary of this sacred palace of Draconic Faith?! They will pay for this!!!” Luka was so furious that she yelled and was heard throughout the palace.
All four successfully escaped from the Draconic Faith’s hand, for now. Len looked at his tracks to where he was before. He knew it will take him a long journey before he could see his mother but he also knew by the time he return his sister is already with him and they will live peacefully starting from scratch.
“Have you left something behind?” Meiko looked at Len who’s looking at their back tracks.
“I’m just saying goodbye for now. Starting this day the real journey begans.” Len looked up the sky and walks forward with Kaito and Gakupo waiting at the side.
“Where’s your mask Kaito” Gakupo noticed that Kaito’s not wearing his mask like before.
“Oh that? I reserved it to someone special.” Kaito smiled and runs towards Len who’s leading the way.
“Hey Len, do you have a plan on how to kill a dragon?” Kaito asked a question out of blue. Meiko stopped from her tracks and looked at the three.
“Hey now, can somebody please explain to me what’s the plan? I don’t want to be entangled in a group that thinks random plans.” Meiko gives a cold stare to everyone waiting for someone to explain. Len smiled and scratches his own head.
“Actually, our plan was to kill the elder dragon so that this gypsy era will be stop.” Len maintains his own position. Everyone looked at each other after hearing Len’s plan.
“I’ll take care of the route. I know how to get there with my eyes close. But I’ll warn you all that this is not an easy quest.” Gakupo looks at everyone thinking someone might not agree, but thankfully everyone agreed to it.
“I fully trust you Sir Gakupo.” Len smiled.
“Then I’ll help protecting our front lines.” Meiko courageously steps forwards knowing she is a well-educated knight.
“Excuse me everyone.” Kaito rises his hand asking for a question; “I would like to know your reasons why we have business with the dragons if you don’t mind so that we could get to know each other more.” Kaito smiled while eating an apple.
“Well I like to rescue my sister and stop the gypsy plan” Len said.
“I like to know what Luka’s plan because she used me on that purpose. I also wanted to remove the Gypsy plan too due to my past.” Gakupo said.
“What past?” Meiko got curious
“My mother was also a scholar that I respected the most. But when she was chosen as the next gypsy, she killed herself rather than be killed by a dragon. If it’s not for that stupid belief my mother should still be living up until now…” Gakupo made a sad expression which made everyone sad.
“I am also seeking for justice and wanting to remove the Gypsy plan just like what happened to Gakupo’s mother but a bit different. I wanted to revenge Teto’s death and I will not be satisfied if I don’t kill that Dragon!” Meiko made a swear sign and looked at the sky. Kaito was amazed to everyone’s resolution that he applause.
“Nice everyone! I think that helps us work together more starting today. Now off we go!” Kaito was about to walk when Meiko pulled his shirt.
“You’re forgetting someone..” Meiko looked at Kaito, Kaito also looked at all of them and they are waiting for his speech. He smiled and touch his face that has a metal mask before.
“Ah, my plan is not as complicated as that. I think you’ll be angry if you heard my reason.” He smiled to everyone while they still waits for his story; “Ok fine, I’ll tell it sheesh… I wanted to rescue someone important there, a friend that I grew up with and was force to work there forever.”
“That’s more horrible!” Len said.
“You said forever. What do you mean by that?” Gakupo got curious to Kaito’s choice of words.
“Like I said you’ll be angry at me. What I wanted to rescue was not a human but a dragon.” Kaito broke everyone’s silence.
“WHAT??!” –Gakupo, Meiko and Len
“I’m sorry guys. I know you all hated dragons but I promise that not all of them are bad.”
“How can you know that?!” Meiko got angry that she pulled Kaito’s collar.
“Let him be Miss Meiko.” Len responded; “I don’t intend to mingle with other’s problems but I appreciated all your efforts. It’s because of us working together that we successfully escaped from the palace. I don’t mind what reasons you have as long as we can manage to get there is enough.” Len sighed and thinks. “We also need a leader just in case for planning and such.”
“They all looked at each other and then looked at Len. Len pointed his finger at himself and said; “Huh?Why?”
“I think you’re suitable for becoming a leader.” Kaito smiled.
“I don’t mind Len to be the leader. He is the one who made me change my mind.” Meiko nods.
“Len also has a good heart. I know he’ll manage the position somehow.” Gakupo also nodded.
Len looked at everyone and smiled; “Thank you for trusting me even though I’m still a kid. I do hope you’ll all lend me your strength so that we can finish this as soon as possible.”
They happily shake hands and starts walking towards east. They have a long journey ahead but they knew this time they are all not working alone.
