Chrissy's P.O.V

"Come on! Quickly! We're going to be late for the carnival!" I cried out, looking up the staircase.

"I'm coming! I'm coming!" Alex said, as he rushes down the stairs in a maroon collar shirt and jeans. "Sheesh, stop getting so hyped up over carnivals."

Since I was young, I have always loved carnivals! I loved the games and food there. Not to mention the joyous atmosphere there makes me smile every time. The carnival is my favourite place to be, partially because my dad used to bring me there when I was like 5. It was the one place I could always enjoy myself together with my dad. It was my happy place.

"You're always so slow! Stop being so slow!" I said, as I crossed my arms and tapped on my feet urgently. I was clearly peeved.

I could feel irritation just boiling inside of me as I looked at Alex taking his own sweet time trying to tie his shoe laces. I wonder why I even try to put up with him.

"I know you're super irritated right now, I can sense it through that death glare of yours" Alex chuckled with a smirk on his face, making him look undeniably cute. "Just chill okay?"

"I would've just left you here if you weren't my best friend" I said, rolling my eyes.

"Awww, how sweet." Alex laughed as he grabbed my arms and looked at me with his golden chocolate eyes. "Let's go."

-----------------------------------

The carnival looked perfect!

It was overflowing with people. Children, adults, even the elderlies! I could smell the sweet aroma of popcorn and candy floss nearby. I could hear the deafening screams and cries of those on the roller coaster. I could even see people barfing their lunch and dinner away in the trash bins. Oh, how I love the carnival!

"Hey, let's go buy some candy floss!" I squealed.

"Alright! Don't get too excited!" Alex said, trying to calm me down.

Alex and I were inseparable. Literally, since we were still in our diapers. Our parents were good friends, so I spent a lot of time with Alex. He was my best guy friend, a loving brother to me. He would never fail to make me happy. He would never get annoyed with me. For instance, he has been to many carnivals, and it gets boring for him. But he never fails to miss it for me! That's my best friend.

"Where should we go next?" I asked, holding a big black bear soft toy Alex won for me.

"How about..." He replied, startled for a moment, then continuing his sentence, "...that stall over there? I've never seen it before."

Alex pointed his finger at a stall, beside the corn dog stand. It was a stall with Chinese and English words on it.

Fortune Stall? I've never seen that stall before.

Alex and I walked over to the Fortune Stall. We saw a lady, back facing us, with dark black hair tied into a bun. She seems to be wearing a traditional Chinese dress. A long red dress donned with golden and blue flower patterns on it. It was a beautiful dress.

"Hi welcome." Said the woman, smiling.

She's beautiful...

I finally snapped out of my gaze from her and said, "H-hi! We just wanted to try out your stall. We've never seen it before." I could feel my cheeks burning, embarrassment for staring at her too long.

I looked at Alex, thinking that he would be gazing and drooling at her too. But apparently he was looking at me! Well, he was laughing at me. I would've hit him immediately for laughing at me, but I felt more embarrassed as the woman began giggling too.

"Hi, my name is Kim. I sells fortune cookies. Would like to get one each?" She said smiling.

"Sure" I replied.

Alex and I took one cookie each. Both of us broke it at the same time and a piece of paper appeared from inside the cookie.

"Mine says 'Stop looking so far away. The one is nearby'" Alex said. "So what does yours say, Chriss?"

I froze.

"Chriss?" Alex said, worriedly.

"A-A-Alex.. Mine is blank.." I replied, staring at the piece of paper.

What does this mean? I have no fortune? I'm unlucky??

A laughter soon broke the silence.

"Oh my, you've got it all wrong!" Kim laughed. "That piece of fortune you got there is the best! One of a kind!"

I just stared at her in disbelief. "R-really?"

Kim walked over and took the paper away from me. She looked at me, smiling, and said "This fortune will only show itself when you need it. I don't know when, but it will show itself one day."

"Wow, Thank you." I replied, amazed. I took the piece of paper and stuffed it into one of my pockets.

Alex asked, "This Fortune Stall is really cool. But why aren't there any customers here?"

The carnival was filled with lots of people. But no one seemed to notice the fortune stall. Or maybe they just didn't want to go to it.

"My stall isn't very popular. The corn dog stall over there is getting the one attracting all the attention. I don't know how to get customers here." Kim said, smiling. She was feeling disappointed, anyone could tell.

"Hey! How about me & Alex help you promote your cookies?" I asked.

"Sounds wonderful! Thank you!" Kim said, cheerfully.

Alex and I grabbed a bunch those fortune cookies and began walking around the carnival.

Alex's P.O.V.

"Hi! Do you want to know your fortune? Visit the Fortune Stall over there now!" Chrissy said, gleaming with cheerfulness as she directed a little girl and her mother to the Fortune Stall.

I can't help but smile. She's so happy. With eyes as blue as the carribean sea, long wavy brown hair with tints of golden highlights in them, in her light blue tank top and black jeans. I cannot imagine anyone more beautiful than her.

"Alex! ALEX!" Chrissy shouted.

I snapped back to reality. I realised I've been daydreaming.

"Come on Alex! You're not helping at all! I haven't seen any customers from your side!" Chrissy said, with furrowed brows. Did I mention how cute she looked when she's frustrated?

"Alright! I'm sorry, your highness. I'll get back to work." I chuckled, giving her a smirk.

However, as I turned around, I heard a short scream behind me. Without a doubt, I knew the scream came from Chrissy.

Chrissy's P.O.V.

Ouch.. My butt hurts.. I feel as I I've just hit a huge rock. Why can't that person just watch where he's going. Urgh, I'm going to give him a piece of my mind!

I could feel heat rising in my body as I kept thinking about the stranger who bumped into me, making me fall and land on my bum. I rubbed my my bum as I sit on the ground floor with cookies surrounding me. I slowly opened my eyes, ready to give the stranger a piece of my mind when I realised an angel was in front of me.

Dark blue eyes which was filled with concern and apology stared straight into mine. He was slightly tanned. He wore a white shirt, not too tight, but his muscles can still be seen slightly. His smile was so angelic. Immediately i knew, he was Nathan Miller, the school's football captain.

"Umm, are you alright?" He asked as he stretched out his hand towards me.

My anger completely subsided. I held onto his hand as he helped me back to my feet. Our eyes still in gazing at each other.

"Chriss!" Alex shouted, snapping me away from Nathan's eyes. Gosh, why am I blushing so hard?!

"Chriss, are you okay? Are you hurt?" Alex asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry about it." I reassured Alex.

"Umm, Chriss, is it?" Nathan asked.

"It's Chrissy. This is my best friend Alex." I said as Alex gave a smile and nodded.

"I'm terribly sorry for bumping into you and making you fall, Chrissy." Nathan apologised, giving a slight bow.

Hearing him say my name made me blush even harder. I wish I could hear it again.

"Let me help you pick these up." Nathan said before picking up the fallen cookies on the floor. "I saw the both of you trying to promote these cookies. Can I help? As an apology."

"Don't you have anything else to do?" Alex asked, immediately.

"Nah my friends ditched me, so I'm completely free." Nathan said smiling.

"Alright! You can help us!" I said cheerfully.

From the corner of my eye I could see Alex's face changed. He's sulking. He gets jealous easily when another guy joins us. I don't know why he's jealous though, but I find it cute.

About an hour has gone by, and long queues were forming at the Fortune Stall. We said our goodbyes to Kim and went away.

"Nathan! Do you want to join me and Alex to watch the fireworks?" I asked.

"Sure, sounds fun" Nathan replied, smiling with his angelic smile.

"Alex will bring us there!" I said, pushing Alex. "Righhhhhht?"

"Yeah yeah yeah. Just follow me." Alex said, rolling his eyes.

We walked through a rocky path in the dark forest with only the moon light as our light source. Alex was leading the way, while I walked behind Alex and Nathan walked behind me.

"Uh, Chrissy, where are we going?" Nathan asked, looking around worriedly.

"Don't worry! We go through this path all the time!" I replied.

"But if you don't like it you may leave." Alex mumbled.

"Sorry, what was that, Alex?" Nathan shouted to Alex.

"I-I meant, hey look we're reaching" Alex replied back.

We arrived at the tip of the hill, where a tiny viewing point was. The entire town could be seen!

"Wow!" Nathan exclaimed in amazement.

Yeah, that was how me and Alex reacted as well when we first found this viewing point. Nobody ever came up here as they all thought the path up the hill was haunted. Thank god for brave kids like me and Alex.

"This isn't even the best part. Wait till you see what happens at midnight." Alex said, gazing at the sky.

I stood between Nathan and Alex and said "You ready?"

5...4....3....2....1

Soon, colours filled the night sky. Explosions of blue, green, red were everywhere. The booming bright sparkles contrasted the starry night. No matter how many times I look at it, I will never fail to be amazed by the beauty of the fireworks.
