Paul and John lay on the grass by the parking lot waiting for Dot to show up with her little friend. It was a sunny day, a bit chilly when the wind would blow. Paul was laying next to John, but not too close. They stared up at the sky while others were walikng past, in a hurry to get home.

Paul scooted closer to John and wrapped his hand his. Their shoulders were pressed against each other, their jackets covering their hands. Hopefully no one could tell what they were doing.

"John?"

"Yeah?"

"Why were you so quick with agreeing to...be my boyfriend?" Paul whispered the last part incase anyone was listening.

"Why do you think?" John asked, turning to look at Paul. Paul pretended to think for a moment.

"Mmm....free guitar lessons?" Paul teased, trying to stifle a smile. John laughed. He loved when Paul would joke like this, which happened rarely; him being a perfectionist and all, he was usually whiny. John didn't mind that too much, though.

"Well...that's part of it." John giggled in a mock girl way as Paul elbowed him in the ribs.

A few minutes later Dot and Cynthia walked up to two boys wrestling on the grass, dirt getting all over their uniforms. Cynthia giggled slightly at the scene, but Dot was more than annoyed.

"Paul!!" she yelled.

The two lads stopped wrestling, but didn't look at the girls standing before them. Paul was straddling John, looking into his brown eyes, trying to catch his breath. They sat there for what seemed like a century, just smiling at each other.

John could see from the corner of his eye that the girls were starting to get confused and frustrated, waiting for them to get the hell up from the ground. He ruffled Paul's hair and pushed him to the ground quickly before running over to the girls.

"You bastard!" Paul yelled, hurrying to fix his hair.

John chuckled softly, walking over to help Paul up. Dot sighed and rolled her eyes.

"Look at you! You're filthy!" she nagged, starting to wipe the dirt off of Paul. Cynthia stood there awkwardly, waiting to be introduced to these two strangers. She guessed the auburn haired one was John, considering Dot called the other one 'Paul'.

"Ello, I'm John," John introduced himself. He offered her his hand and she shook it, smiling warmly. 'He is quite good looking,' Cynthia thought.

"Cynthia," she replied.

Dot had finished wiping the dirt off of Paul and turned toward Cynthia and John, noticing they had already introduced themselves.

"Alright...well Cynthia this is my boyfriend Paul," she said taking his hand in hers. "Let's go."

----------------------------------------------------

They made it to Dot's house in one piece. She told everyone to sit on her porch while she made some tea. Cynthia sat next to John on the porch swing. Paul sat in a separate chair, eyeing Cynthia with a hint of jealousy.

She noticed the weird look Paul was giving her, shifting uncomfortably on the bench.

"So Paul, where did you meet Dot?"

"Hell," John mumbled under his breath.

"School," Paul replied. Cynthia nodded her head as if to say "ah, of course."

"You've been going together for a while, then?"

"Two years."

"And you don't have a girlfriend?" she asked looking over at John. He shook his head in response, not daring to say anything for fear he might slip up and say something about him and Paul.

"Why not? You're a good looking guy. The girls should be all over you." John cocked an eyebrow.

"You're beginning to sound like me mum."

"Sorry," she apologized, blushing slightly.

"No its alrigh', I like my mum," John chuckled and winked at her.

Paul was filling with jealousy. John was his and he was Johns. Why was he flirting with her?

Suddenly Dot walked out with a tray of tea and biscuits, setting them on the table beside Paul. She sat down in the other chair beside the table, smiling politely at everyone. John rested his head on his hand, already bored out of his mind.

"So the dance. What are you going to wear Cyn?" Dot asked in a hurry to make conversation.

"Oh, I was just thinking something simple like a red dress." Cynthia replied. "So John, you could wear a regular tuxedo." she added quickly.

"That's what I was going to wear anyway," he smiled cheekily. Cynthia laughed slightly, not knowing what else to do. Dot just rolled her eyes and turned to Paul who looked quite disinterested in this whole thing.

"Well, I was thinking we should color coordinate. I'm going to wear a light blue dress. You should wear a white tux with a blue bow-tie. Does that sound fine?"

Paul shrugged. He really wanted to leave. He didn't care about 'color coordinating' or any of that jazz. He just wanted to have a double date and be close to John so it could be like they went together.

"Paul don't be difficult. Are you fine with the idea or not?!"

"I don't care. Whatever you want, dear." he said almost sarcastically.

"Do you even want to go to the dance with me?!" Dot asked frustrated. Why was he acting like that?

"Of course I do," he lied. "Don't be dramatic."

"I'm sorry, it's just... sometimes I feel like you don't really like me very much anymore."

"Maybe he doesn't." John commented. Dot stared at him wide eyed, a tear about to spill from her eye. She couldn't believe he just said that.

"'E's just joking, of course I like you. I wouldn't be going to this dance with you if I didn't." Paul laughed nervously, hoping she wouldn't see right through his lies.

He intertwined his fingers with hers, giving her a reassuring look.

"I think we're done here. You two can go home if you'd like," Dot offered not making eye contact with anyone. She felt like crying and there were still tears in her eyes. She didn't want anyone to see.

"I think that's a brilliant idea," John said as he stood up. He looked over at Cynthia. "I'll see you at the dance on Friday, then." She nodded smiling widely at him.

"Bye."

Paul and Dot stood up- not on purpose- and Paul gave her a small kiss on the lips.

"Bye, luv."

Dot didn't respond. Instead she took the tea tray and went to sit next to Cynthia. Paul waved goodbye to Cyn and ran to catch up with John.

John was waiting for paul at the end of the walkway. He was happy to be finally leaving. Dot annoyed the hell out of him.

--------------------------------------------------------

The two young lads were walking down the sidewalk, not knowing where they were headed to. John didn't care where they went as long as Paul was with him.

He and Paul had only been going together for two days, but it felt like years. John suddenly realized that he had always had a thing for Paul. He had always ignored it though, for fear Paul might hate him. How long had Paul liked him?

"Hey Paulie?"

"Hm?"

"How long have you liked me? More than a friend I mean."

Paul raised an eyebrow. He was expecting that question.

"I don't know, really. A long time."

John nodded, taking in this information. Paul had had feelings for him for a while. And he didn't say anything. At least they were together now.

"You were good at hiding it."

"I know." Paul smiled proudly. John smiled, shaking his head.

"So, what do you want to do now?" he asked.

"I have to go find a white suit to wear to the dance." Paul sighed heavily.

"I could help you pick one out," John said smirking a bit. Paul laughed and rolled his eyes. He didn't mind this suggestion, but he had to stop home and get money to buy the tux, and his dad wouldn't be happy about John waiting for him outside.

"That's a lovely idea and all, but I have to go get money from home and me dad...." his voice trailed off. He didn't like bringing up the fact that he wasn't allowed to be seen with John around his dad.

"Right." John frowned. "I'll see ya around, then."

Paul watched as John walked He really loathed his dad at that moment. towards his house. He felt bad.
