Jessie's P.O.V

I stared at the soon to be alpha shocked.

He was my mate? Cameron was my mate?!

I couldn't believe it my mate was an alpha! The corners of my mouth started to twitch as I tried to fight a smile but I couldn't resist. Soon I was smiling, a full on smile teeth and all.

I stared into his beautiful forest green eyes getting completely lost as he kept our gazes locked. When I looked into his eyes I couldn't help but feel complete, like we were the only two in the room. We continued to stare at each other but then his face turned sour, his eyes turning darker with rage. I winced at the sudden change in the air. It was now full of tension and a mixture of my anticipation.

Cameron stormed over to me. His body was shaking, his fingernails digging into his palms and his jaw clenched. He looked like he was about to murder someone.

We stood only inches apart and I could feel his hot breath fanning across my face. My body shivered on its own accord, this made my sexy mate smirk. My mouth had gone dry from being so nervous. What was he going to do to me? Would he accept me or reject me?

A throat being cleared interrupted my internal battle. I looked up and saw 'the' smirk. This was not a good sign and I had seen it many times before. So had the whole school. This smirk was Cameron's most famous weapon. When you saw it, you knew you were in for it.

I broke eye contact and glanced around me. What I saw made me jump and my eyes widened. What looked like the whole student body were staring at Cameron and I. They all had puzzled faces, no doubt wondering what was going on.

I faced Cameron again. He still had rage burning in his eyes. Why was he looking at me like that? I thought to myself. I only knew a little about mates and I was positive that he should not be looking at me like that.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked quietly.

"You disgust me." He replied blunt to the point. I internally winced as I heard my heart start to break.

"But your mate," gasps and murmurs erupted from the crowd surrounding us.

"Listen to my words carefully loser. We are not mates. There is no way that the moon goddess would pair me the future alpha with a none shifter like you. I mean look at you." I glanced down at myself. "You're disgusting, ugly, weak. I can't run a pack with someone who can't shift. If I was your mate I'd feel sorry for him. And I would say the words I reject you Jessica Brown."

As soon as those words left his mouth my heart broke into a million pieces. I held back the tears that were threatening to escape. I would not show them that I was weak.

Cameron's smirk was still plastered on his face. I searched his eyes for some kind of sign that he was joking but all I found was satisfaction and happiness. I was clearly not wanted around here. I thought they would change. Grow to accept me but I was wrong. Without looking I whispered so only he could hear me "I accept your rejection." With that said I swiftly pushed my way through the crowd trying to blank out their insults.

"What a freak."

"I can't believe she said they were mates!"

"She's so delusional if she thought they could be together. What a joke."

I walked out of the front doors that I had only just recently entered and made my way to the forest. It was here that I let the tears fall down my face and allowed myself to wallow in my own self-pity. I aimlessly wondered around the forest, not worrying about where I was going or what time it was.

I looked up at the sky and noticed that the sun had started to set, the sky was a deep blue with little white lights glistening and the night air sent a chill down my body. I knew I should have started to head back home, if I could even call it that, but I didn't feel like it so I continued deeper into the forest.

My feet began to ache and my throat was burning from thirst. I surveyed my surroundings and my eyes found a small lake surrounded by colourful flowers and trees with pink blossoms. This place was breath taking. I walked closer to the lake, my eyes looking around in awe. I sat down near the edge of the lake and scooped up some water and brought it to my lips. I drank greedily and immediately my throat felt better. I lied down and stared up at the stars wishing I could feel this calm and at ease every minute of every day. This small area made me forget about my troubles, even him.

I was lost in thought, my eyes glazed over and dreaming about what my life would have been like if I did shift. Would have Cameron the future alpha of the pack accept me as his mate? Would my family love me?

I was brought out of my days dreams by a snap of a stick. I shoot up and looked around. I couldn't see anything it was too dark. Damn! Why couldn't I have werewolf sight! There was another snap that came from behind me, making me spin round. As soon as I steadied myself. I came face to face with a women with flaming, bright red hair and green eyes.

"Hello my dear." She said with a smile on her face.

"What do you want?" I asked slowly backing away from her. My body was shaking from my fear. I scolded myself for being so weak but I couldn't stop myself from trembling.

"We want you my dear." She took slow steps towards me.

"We?"

"Yes we."

"Who's we? Why do you want me?"

"I can not tell you that yet. You're special my dear. More powerful than anyone. We want to help you."

I laughed. I laughed so hard that tears started to roll down my face. "Special? You're joking right? Have you even looked at me? I'm weak, pathetic and a disgrace."

"That is where you are wrong. You are going to a very powerful wolf, my dear."

"I can't even shift!" I shouted.

"Not yet. But you will and when you do it's going to be magnificent."

I was utterly and completely confused. This women standing before me was a part of something that I didn't know of and they wanted me of all people to join them? And what did she mean by when I shift? I thought I lost my chance to shift over a year ago on the sixteenth birthday? I stared at the women before me puzzled then I remembered the small print in the book. Disappear... No one knows where or why.

Everything seemed to click into place. These people were here to take me away and the ironic thing is I had turned seventeen only two weeks ago. The book was right.

I was now sat in the back of a van with the women who's name I found out to be was Penny and three other guys. They were all quite something to look at. They all looked like each other I was starting to think that they were brothers. They all had dark brown hair, blue eyes and well built. I had to stop myself from drooling. I know I had a mate but there's nothing wrong with a bit of window shopping now is there? Wow, that made me sound like a player.

It turned out they were all hiding in the forest, so even if I ran one of them would have caught me and brought back to Penny. I still hadn't gotten any answers from these people but they seem nice enough. I mean they are taking me away from that hell home that I called my home and pack.

"Penny, can I ask you a question?"

"What's wrong Jessica?"

"How did you find me?"

"Honestly?" I nodded.

"We've been keeping tabs on you since you were born." She smiled at me sheepishly. "You worried us when you found the book. I thought we were going to have to change our plan."

"And what was that exactly?"

"To bring you with us. Where you belong."

"But how did you know I wasn't going to shift?" I pushed.

"I can't tell you much. Yet. But an elder had a vision about you. You are destined for great things Jessica."

I absorbed her words, letting them sink in. This was great! I was finally allowed to start a fresh and have a purpose for living again. And I knew the first step of my new life.

I grinned at Penny and the boys who grinned back. "Call me Jay."
