I realize that I made a wrong turn during the walk to get home and I don't know where I am. A blue mustang pulls up from behind me and blocks my only escape. Four men get out of the car and the first one pushes me over. The second kicks me repeatedly in the side until I hear it crack. They stomp on my stomach and I grown in fear and in pain. They etch the word greaser into my arm and I scream, then hear footsteps, knowing that a gang is there to help. Tim Shepard walks over and picks me up, and I pass out in one of their cars. When I wake up I'm in the hospital surrounded by my gang. Two-bit is holding my hand and crying, while the rest sit in their chairs in shock. I reach over with my good hand and ruffle his hair. "Della, your awake," he says and Darry's head snaps up. He walks over to my bedside and pulls up a chair. "Hey kiddo, how you feelin," he asks. "I'd be doin a lot better if the Soc left us alone," I mumble. Dary smooths down my hair and I look back over at Two-bit. "It's gone," he says and I lift my eyebrow. "What is?" I question and his eyes water again. "our little Minnie Mouse," he starts crying again and I rest my hand in his shoulder. "Hey listen, we have an eternity together, there will be another one," I say and he nods, wiping at his eyes. He tries his arms around me to the best of his ability and cries into my hair. "I'm sorry Mickey," I mumble and fall back asleep
