'' Jade!'' Louis joins me and grabs me by the shoulders making me spinning so that now we're eyes to eyes. I don't meet his gaze though, focusing on the floor and biting my lower lip.
'' What's wrong? What's going on? Did something happen?'' Louis inquires and I shake my head still not speaking.
'' Are you okay, Jade?''
'' Everything is fine..'' I lie. '' I have work to do, I'll call you after I've finished. Don't worry about me Louis, it's fine. I swear.'' I lift on my toes and kiss his cheek. I smile at him again and slowly stroll to the top of the stairs. I don't know where Harry is, however he is the only person who knows and can help me. He must be hurt and I know he's hiding from me, I would not bother him if it wasn't an important matter.
It takes a lifetime to get on the other side of the maze and finally reaching his tiny little shelter. I knock on the door, hearing the barking of Roy soon after. Maybe I am wrong and Harry is not here. Maybe he went out. I feel adrift, hopeless and scared, until I hear a noise and I instantly know the house is not uninhabited. Harry is in, he just doesn't want to open up. Not that I can blame him.
'' Harry. I know you're there.'' I lick my dry lips, not ready to see him again at all.
''Please let me in. I know I don't have any right to be here after the things I've said to you and I'll understand if you don't want to see me, but I have to try. I need your help, please Harry. I promise I'll let you be, I just-''The lump in my throat is so tight I can barely open my mouth to let out the words. I can't stop though; I need to persuade him. I knock repentantly on the door, trying to wake him up but nothing seems to work.
'' Harry, I beg you. I need your help. Please.'' I close my eyes to keep myself in control of the situation.'' I need you.'' I whisper, focusing on the sound in the room. Nothing can be heard though.
'' Jade?'' Harry's voice questions from behind me and I jump crushing against the door in surprise. He's holding a Starbuck in his long fingers and his green eyes are staring at me with a puzzled expression that makes me think he hasn't heard a single word of what I've said.
'' Harry..'' I murmur like this was the most beautiful word in the world causing him to raise an eyebrow at me in confusion.
'' What are you even doing here?'' He inquires and I pace till I'm in front of him, my heart racing for the closeness.
'' I need to ask you a favour-'' His loud laugh catches me off of guard and I shut up immediately. I shouldn't be surprised by his reaction, but I am. He looks so heartless, I feel like a fool holding on into a blind hope.
'' I'm sorry, you lost that privilege the second you told me to fuck off and leave you alone for good!" I sigh and bow my head. He's right, I know he is.
He sips his coffee and nonchalantly walks past me, I cringe and sense my brain fuming with ideas, scenarios or excuses. I can't find anything that could make him changing his mind.
'' Harry!'' He stops by the door and turns his head eyeing me from his shoulder with the straw still in his lips. I don't need to say a word, he just drops his hand from the knob and stares into me.
'' Please.'' I add really in need.
'' Why would I want to help you? Do enlighten me Jade. Why do I have to swallow all the bad things you have said to me and just give you a hand. You don't deserve it, you wanted me out of your life only two hours ago and now that I finally complied your request, you're back knocking at my fucking door. You even have the guts to say that I'm the one who's fucked up?'' My chest spasms under the trueness of his speech and I simply stay there watching my feet.
'' If I help you, then yes, I'm the most stupid asshole living on this earth and I have no intention to be used like this, are you not even ashamed of yourself?'' I cringe and feel my hands trembling hard. I shut my eyes, my feet start to move till I'm only inches away from him.
So once again, I ignore that noisy voice that is screaming at me to find another solution and raise on the tip of my feet, throwing my arms around Harry's neck.
'' Please, Harry.'' I hide my face in the crook of his neck and breathe his scent as I try desperately not to fell in love with his exquisite smell. '' He threatened my mum, I wouldn't ever forgive myself if something bad happens to her.''
I feel Harry's muscles tense as he shies away from me. He strolls back hitting the door with an astonished expression that he hides immediately. He gives me a quick glare before shaking his head and running inside, far, far away from me. I look around to find a way out, nothing pops to my mind and I massage my temples trying to think harder.
The door of Harry's house opens again moments later and Harry walks out with Roy on his side. He paces in my direction, grabs me by the hand and drags me away. I blink my eyes surprised, but fasten my steps to keep up with him.
We get to his car and he makes Roy jump in his BMW. I give him directions and once we get to my house's driveway, I ask Harry to stop a bit further down so no one will see him. I hop off and hurry to the front door, rushing with my key to get in.
'' Mum?'' I yell throwing the keys into the bowl and start adventuring.
'' Mum, I'm home!''
'' Jade?'' She finally answers me from upstairs and I relax my shoulders noticeably.
'' What's all this noise about?
'' Mum!'' I exhale, hugging her.
'' What are you doing here so early? Something happened?'' I shake my head and just thank whoever helped to keep her safe.
'' You're strange, Jade. You're acting like you haven't see me in ages!'' She giggles and I smile back.
'' I'm just happy, missed you so much.'' My mum laughs again, I must look silly right now.
'' Well, next time you go to a party, just come back home once you're finished okay? So you won't miss me that much. I was worried sick about you girl.'' I giggle at that and let her petting my hair. I don't want to let her go, ever.
My mum raises her head then out of the blue, addresses Harry.
'' And who are you?''
I peek at his direction and see he has his head down, his hands crossed behind his back and red cheeks fuming for the embarrassment.
'' Is this the boy Louis was telling me about yesterday?'' I advert a note of resentment in her voice while her protective side surfaces. I get down the stairs and move next to Harry.
'' Yes, Harry.'' I lock my gaze with his for a quick moment. '' Harry took good care of me yesterday. I don't know what I would have done without him.'' I say then dart my eyes away.
'' In this case..'' my mum comes down to greet Harry. Harry extends a hand, but she ignores it and gives him one big hug. Harry's wide eyes and stony body tell me he's not used to this kind of treatment and I almost cackle at how shocked he looks.
'' You're welcome here Harry anytime you want. Thank you for helping my Jade.'' She warmly pads his back then lets him go. I've never saw Harry so silent and embarrassed, nevertheless it's kind of nice.
'' No problem.'' he murmurs and rubs the back of his head to dissimulate the fact that he's terribly unconformable.
'' Are you hungry Harry? I was making Jade's favourite cookies and-'' as if someone just hit her on the head, my mum face palms herself and, excusing her clumsiness, disappears into the kitchen. She forgot the cookies in the oven, typical.
'' Is everything okay?'' Harry whispers once we're alone and I nod so that he can calm down and relax. But Roy doesn't seem on the same page as I hear him growling, his snout pointed to the kitchen.
Harry's face darkens and orders me to stay put while he walks to the kitchen door.
'' What, Roy?'' I kneel down, trying to pet him to make him calm dow but he doesn't stop barking. He crawls to the kitchen door and howls as if he's trying to warn us.
I don't get the time to process what he's warning us about though, because I hear a loud explosion coming from the kitchen and the house shakes, starting to fill up with dark smoke.
'' No!'' I just have the time to say as I bolt into the room not caring about the sting in my eyes caused by the smoke.
