Proof Of Your Love by For King &Country

"So let my life be the proof,

The proof of Your love

Let my love look like You and what You're made of

How You lived, how You died

Love is sacrifice

So let my life be the proof,

The proof of Your love"

Chapter 20

Isabelle’s POV

“This is a really nice truck you have.” Oliver beamed at Daphne in Greek from my right side. She answered something back in her language, causing Oliver to chuckle. I rolled my eyes at the display.

I was sitting between them in the front while Mandy and Seb sat in the back. I glanced through the rearview mirror and caught them smacking in the back. I don’t think all of this will ever stop. I turned back to the front and watched the road pass in front of us. This was the most boring ride ever. It’s hard to sit still for even another second.

“How long until we get to Athens?” I asked to anyone who was listening.

“Πόσο καιρόμέχρι ναφτάσουμεστην Αθήνα?” Oliver asked Daphne. I looked at him like he was crazy, hoping he asking her what I asked.

“Μια άλληώρα ή έτσι.” Daphne said, keeping her eyes on the road.

“She said another hour.” Oliver told me.

I let out a groan and pinched my nose with my fingers. “Holy crap on a popsicle stick. I’m going to be in here forever.”

Right when we stopped in front of Belle Vu S.A. hotel, I climbed over Oliver and shot out of the car. I stumbled to my feet, catching the eyes of some curious bystanders. I even saw a mother tug pretty hard at her child’s arm to get him away from me.

Man, where was the hospitality in this place?

I looked up at the hotel before us and noticed how ancient it looked. It must have been here since the beginning of time.

I could hear Oliver thanking Daphne for the ride for us, but I ventured forward. When I pushed through the double doors, the sight was just magnificent. The floor was tiled white and the walls were a creamy color. I looked up and could see the floors from here. There were a lot of them.

I moved towards the front wooden front desk where a young blond woman stood behind. “Μπορώ νασας βοηθήσω?”

“Oh for fuck’s sake.” I rolled my eyes. “Does everyone here speak Greek? No one knows English? Greek is not the only fucking language in the world!”

“Izzy, why are you screaming?” Mandy asked from behind me.

“Because no one here knows a goddamn lick of English!” I told her and glanced at the blond girl with a fake smile. “Do you understand the words that are coming of my mouth?” I enunciated, with the best Chris Tucker accent I could muster up.

The girl looked at me for a second before smiling widely. “Είστεαστείο!Τιδάπεδοθα θέλατε?”

I slapped my forehead and turned to Oliver for some assistance. “What the hell did this chick just say Oliver?”

“She said you’re funny and asked what floor would you like.” He told me.

I rolled my eyes. How the hell would she know if I was funny or not if she didn’t understand what I said? “Okay, tell her we’re looking for a Lisa and Joe Johnson.”

“Uh, ΨάχνουμεγιαέναLisaκαιJoe Johnson?”

The lady frowned. Well, that didn’t look good. “Δεν μπορώ να δώσωπροσωπικές πληροφορίες.”

“Εντάξει, σας ευχαριστώ.” Oliver grabbed my arm and pulled me further away from the counter. I glanced back, now noticing that we were holding up the line. “She said she’s not allowed to give out info like that.”

I leaned against the wall beside us. “What the heck do they think we’d do with the information? Kill them?”

He let out a laugh. “Not exactly. It’s that customer confidentiality thing. Don’t you watch movies?”

“Apparently not as much as you do.” I said flatly.

“Well, I have a plan. Thanks to those movies I watch so much. Just get what you need whenever she leaves. Scream, ‘James Bond’ when you do. I want to feel cool.” He said, strutting towards Mandy and Seb.

What? James Bond? He wanted to feel cool? He seriously needs to stop watching those Bond movies.

I rolled my eyes for like the hundredth time today and leaned back over the counter to the receptionist lady. There wasn’t a line anymore, so when I caught her attention she turned to me with a bright smile. I returned it and said, “I’m going to kick your ass, I’m going to kick your parent’s ass, I’m going to kick your kid’s ass. Hell, I’ll even kick your kids’ kid’s asses while I’m at it. And I’m sure you have no idea what I’m saying, right?”

She paused a moment before giggling. “Είστεαστείο!”

“Ha, yeah. I’m a real hoot, huh?”

“Ah, it hurts! It hurts!”

I furrowed my brows at Oliver’s frantic voice. What the hell…

When I turned, I saw Oliver lying on the ground, his arms wrapped around his left leg. He was balling his eyes out, but without all the tears. He was screaming, practically wailing loud enough that a couple of cops and hotel workers came to help him. Even Mandy and Seb were by his side, oblivious that it was all a trick.

I swear, this guy…

I glanced back at the receptionist lady and stuck my thumb out at Oliver’s hilarious display. “I think he needs your help. You better hurry over there.”

She looked at me confused before making her way to the crowd around Oliver that just seemed to get bigger and bigger. Laughing to myself, I moved around her desk and stared at the computer.

Fuck. I probably should have assumed it was in Greek too. Why didn’t I do the distraction and Oliver get the information?

I pursed my lips. Okay. It kind of looks like the computers back at home, but just in Greek. I noticed a little magnifying glass and clicked it. I just hoped it meant search. I typed in Johnson and about ten Johnsons appeared.

Oh come on!

I looked up at the crowd. Oliver was still going strong with the act, still screaming like a baby. I’m in the clear.

I directed my attention back at the screen. There were two Joe Johnsons and I wondered what the hell kind of coincidence is that in Greece. Rolling my eyes, I quickly memorized the room numbers and turned around and plucked out their keycards.

I clicked escape on the keyboard and moved towards the elevator. My mind blanked for a second, trying to remember what he told me to say, but the words had already tumbled out. “Olly olly oxen free!”

Just as suddenly as he started, Oliver jumped to his feet, squeezing through the crowd and towards me. I laughed out loud as I watched the faces on everyone’s faces as they saw the person that was nearly dying just jump on his feet and leave.

Mandy and Seb looked at us in surprise. I pointed upward and stuck four fingers out. It meant fourth floor and I hoped they understood. Seb looked dumbfounded, but Mandy caught my drift as she grinned and shook her head.

“I thought I said to say ‘James Bond’?” He said as he slipped beside me in the elevator and we watched as the doors closed.

“Yeah, but I just felt like ‘Olly olly oxen free’ was a more perfect fit.” I admitted, lifting my shoulders. “Besides, you’re not as cool as James anyways.”
