" PROLOGUE "

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Dear [y/n],

I hope everything is okay
on your end. You promised
to write to me every day, yet
it has been three months since
your last letter. I turned thirteen
yesterday (unlucky number, yuck.)
and was hoping to receive a birthday
letter from you. But it looks like you
have forgotten. Are you that busy
with your new life that you couldn't
even wish your little sister a happy
birthday? Just kidding! I am sure you
have your reasons. Though I cannot
help but notice you have been
quieter than usual. Did something
happen? It's Ryotaka, isn't it? Is he
being mean to you? I knew that man
was too good to be true. You know,
right after you left, I heard mom
and dad talking and found out that
the reason they forced you to marry
him was because he's from a really
really really rich family. Is that true?
If so, could you give me some money
the next time we meet? Just kidding!
(not really) Anyway! I miss you so
much. Hurry up and tell me when
you're free, so we can hang out
together again! (I've got so much to
tell you!)

Lots of love,

Reya ♡

SENTIMENTAL
( akaza x fem!reader )

" A TALE SPUN FOR THOSE WHO YEARN,
FOR LOVE THAT IN DREAMS THEY DISCERN.
A FANTASY WOVEN TO FLEE REALITY'S TETHER,
WHERE 'HAPPILY EVER AFTER' ISN'T THE END,
BUT RATHER. "

Dear Reya,

...

The scratching sound emitting from the tip of your fountain pen scraping against the paper filled the quiet room as you wrote your response. Your handwriting was not as neat as you wanted it to be, but you had no time to waste on such a trivial matter.

Your husband would be home soon, and you hoped to finish writing this letter before his return. Your pace quickened as you recalled the last time he caught you writing a letter to your younger sister. You shuddered just thinking about what had happened that night.

As you reached the end of your letter, signing off with your name, you heard the front door open and a familiar voice echoing through the hallway.

Tossing the pen aside, you hastily folded the piece of paper, not bothering to ensure the folds were even. You snatched an envelope you had prepared beforehand, off the side of your desk, and shoved the letter inside before sliding it beneath your pillow.

The door to your room bursts open just as you laid the pillow back down, successfully hiding it from him.

"I think we should normalize knocking in this house." You spoke in a monotonous voice, concealing the surge of panic coursing through your veins.

"Enough with the smart-talking." His voice was stern and unwavering when he spoke. "What are you up to now?" His gaze travelled from your face to your hand resting on the pillow.

"What does it look like I'm doing?" You scowled, resisting the urge to roll your eyes. "I'm simply getting ready for bed," you answered. "You wouldn't have to ask such an unnecessary question if you had stopped and used that brain of yours to think for once."

"You dare speak to me like-"

A soft knock on the door interrupted your husband as a familiar girl entered the room, a heap of folded clothes in her arms. "Excuse me," she bowed, careful not to drop the clothes.

"Idiot. Did you not hear me speaking?" The older man fumed, glaring at the young girl. "I do not like repeating myself." He spoke through gritted teeth as he approached her. "Did. You. Hear. Me?" With every word he said, he jabbed the side of her head with his index finger, causing the poor girl to wince.

"Yes, Jinshoku-sama." The girl quickly bowed again, lower than before. She kept her eyes glued to the floor, not daring to look up.

Jinshoku Ryotaka redirected his attention to you, perhaps to continue the argument. You met his gaze with your own, refusing to look away. Exhausted from standing, you sat down on the edge of your bed, tilting your head in question as you waited for him to speak.

"Christ, I am in no mood to argue with you tonight," he scoffed, breaking eye contact as he turned to leave. "You best get rid of that attitude before I see you tomorrow." Without another word, you watch your husband leave the room, slamming the door shut behind him.

"Immature as always," you rolled your eyes.

"You alright, Mika?"

The fifteen-year-old girl shifted uncomfortably in her spot, subtly nodding her head.

"Come, I need your help with something." You pat the empty space next to you, signalling for her to sit down.

The blonde girl made her way over to you, setting the pile of clothes next to her as she took a seat.

"Were you two arguing again?" She asked as she watched you take the envelope out from beneath your pillow.

"Nothing new," you shrugged, smoothing out the creased corner of the envelope.

"You're really worrying me," Mika placed a hand over her chest as she let out a sigh. "You have to be careful, I mean, what if he h-"

"No Mika, you cannot keep letting him abuse you like that. Don't you see? He's taking advantage of your kindness."

You stared at the girl next to you, her expression full of worry as she scratched her wrist raw — a nervous tic.

"Anyway," you gently wrapped a hand around hers, pulling it away from her irritated wrist. "Do me a favour?"

You placed the envelope in her hand, requesting her to deliver it for you.

You and Mika spent the rest of the night talking while she kept your clothes in their respective drawers. It was almost midnight when she left your room and sealed behind the envelope hidden in the sleeves of her kimono was your letter of lies.

As much as you hate lying to your sister, you just couldn't bring yourself to tell her the truth. You could never let her know how miserable your life is. She shouldn't have to worry about her older sister. As far as she's concerned, you're living a perfect fairytale life, one that will end with a happily ever after.

That night, as you lay in bed with your own thoughts, you slipped into a dream where you were some other character in a completely different story. Of course, it was not perfect, but it was new, unlike the one you have been living in — and that was more than enough for you.
