On our flight back home I wanted to work the details of our visit to Karev with Calum but I knew if I asked Luke to trade seats with him, my new boyfriend would suspect we're up to something. And the last thing we all need is suspicious Luke.
When we landed at LAX I felt so tired and very homesick. And by home I mean LA, Canada stopped being my home in the minute I ran away with my problems. I got a new home and a new family, from the bottom of my heart I'm so glad Ashton stopped Tay and I at UCLA parking lot to help us, the boys mean the world to me, I love 3/4 of them like brothers and Luke has my heart.
"So we have a little situation" Ashton says after we get out baggages and wait for a cab. "Since Mikey dropped out he lost his spot at the dorms, and probably until the end of this week all four of us will be homeless"
"Mike stays with us" I say right away. "And you guys have this week to find a new place"
"And we could put a bed in our living room so all four of you stay with us until you find something" Taylor says with a smile, I nod agreeing
"I'm glad I have room privilege" Luke smirks and kisses my cheek, he and Ash high five each other with a big smile
"So that's settle!" I smile when two cabs park in front of us
Tay, Mikey and I got in one and Cal, Luke and Ash took the other. They said they'll drop by later to have dinner.
Mike barely spoke during the way to my flat and that really bothered me
"Are you okay, Mikey?" I ask bumping my shoulder on his
"Yeah, just tired from the trip" he smirks and turns his attention to the street
We remain in silence until the cab drop us by my flat. Mike makes himself comfortable on the couch with the video game and beer. Tay and I go unpack, my phone buzzes as soon as I take it out of my purse and turn it on. I have a voice mail from Jonah. I press play.
"Hey Alaska! So um, what's up? We haven't talked in days, I tried to call but your phone was off. Wanna catch a movie tonight? Call me back, bye babe" he sounds happy and cheerful. And called me babe. Oh boy
I dial his number back and bite my lip. Its sucks to break up over the phone but theres no other way, if I meet him I'll go soft.
"Jonah?" I say right after he accepts the call "hi, its Alaska"
"Oh, Hi!" His voice is joyful
"Sorry about disappearing" I look down "I went back to Canada for the weekend, you know visiting my family and stuff"
"Alright, that makes sense" he giggles. This will be hard "So, if you're not tired from the trip we could catch a movie"
"Thats not a good idea" I frown my face. I hate doing this. "Listen, Jonah... we can't see each other anymore" I say it all at once before I chicken out
"why not?" His voice is so sad "Was it something I did?"
"No no no" I rush to say "You've been nothing but great, its just that I'm not sure we're a good match" I already hate myself
"But I thought we were getting along so well"
"We were! But I have a feeling that we might get stuck in the friend zone" I twitch my jaw "I gotta go now, I'm really sorry. Bye" I hang up before he says anything
I lie in bed feeling bad about myself. Am I the kind of person that breaks other's heart that easily? My head hurts from thinking, I take an aspirin and go to sleep.
My phone buzzes right after I closed my eyes, there's no way I'm checking that.
I wake up feeling numb and lost in time. I tip toe my bed looking for my phone and find a body laying next to me. My first instinct is to open my eyes but I use my fingertips to identify the body, I'm far too tired to scare away this creep. The human being next to me giggles and snores and I know is Calum.
"Hi pretty" he says and I open my eyes "You're weird sleeping" he frowns his face
"Shut your face" I roll my eyes and sit down "Why do I own the pleasure of your visit?"
"We need to see Karev" he bites his lips "He texted me saying he knows we got home then I drove here and Taylor let me in. I texted you but you didn't reply""
"Shit" I mutter and unlock my phone to figure out where Luke is "How are we gonna do this? I need to distract Luke"
"He's at the dorms, asleep" Calum says and I get up
"He's sleeping since when?" I take my pajamas off not minding Calum seeing me in my underwear and put on some jeans and a shirt
"Since we got there"
I look to the clock and it's 4pm, we got home at 1pm.
"We have to be fast" I take the necklace and put into my bag "And we leave our phones here" he frowns his forehead "Luke usually tracks my phone to figure out where I am, we can't run the risk"
I drop my phone at the night stand and tell Cal to leave his on the kitchen. We leave the flat and he drives as fast as he can to Karev's laundry place. Cal parks his car and we leave walking quickly to the front door. When we enter the crappy place Karev is waiting for us drinking scotch.
"China! Little Girl!" He smiles "So nice seeing you guys"
"Hi Karev" I smile and we approach his way
"I hope you two crickets are here to pay me" he stands up and I stay still next to Calum "I'm not in a very good mood today" his accent is so deep and rough, scaring the shit out of me
"Calum will pay you" I say and take the necklace out of my purse "There's more than enough" Cal takes the necklace and hands it to Karev
The Russian mobster opens the box and sees the jewelry, his eyes glow.
"Nice" he smiles and puts away the necklace "All good"
"And Calum won't do more drugs so you can't sell him anymore" I stand on the tip of my toes and try to demand something I have no power over
"Ballsy" Karev says "Calum, could you wait outside, Little Girl and I need to have a word in particular"
"I would like him to stay" I say standing strong but not really.
"Well" Karev smirks "I don't, Calum wait outside" and he doesn't ask again. My best mate walks away and thats just Karev and I.
My legs shake and I'm sure this won't end up well. I regret leaving my phone home, now would be the perfect time to Luke bursts into the room to rescue me, actually cross that because he would be so pissed off at me, probable would go weeks avoiding me after yelling at me. We're weird.
"Who do you think you are?" His voice is low but sharp "Thinking you can boss me around" he walks around me, I try to look strong "You're just a little girl, you cannot tell me what to do"
I nod
"Calum is an addict" My little voice fades away "Someone needs to help him get out of this hole he dug himself into" I clear my throat "I'm here for him, so please" I use my sweet voice "Don't sell him anymore drugs"
"I see" Karev says "I understand that. But the thing is, the Chinese boy owed me more than just money" fuck, what the hell "He owed me favors"
"Put it on my tab" My voice is hoarse, there's not going back cause I'm not going to let Cal walk anywhere near drugs anymore "Whatever kind of favor you would ask Calum now you ask me, now I owe you" I stare into his eyes, I'm drowning myself in trouble. Now more than never Luke can't never know about this.
"China boy doesn't deserve you as a friend" Karev sits down on his table and drink more scotch "Alright then, we have a deal" he offers me his hand
"Wait" I remember one important detail "Ashton, Mike, Calum and mostly Luke can never know about this deal" he smiles "Luke can't know about the whole thing, promise me Karev" he nods and smiles "Give me your word"
"I promise you as long as you hold your half of the deal" he's smart
"I will" I shake his hand
"Then off you go" he points to the door and one of his hound men open the front door
I walk out with my legs shaking, Calum rushes to hug me
"What the fuck?!" He holds my shoulders "What happened in there?"
"We just talked, he didn't like the way I spoke to him" I rush my words "I promise I'll behave from now on and you are officially forbidden to buy more drugs" I kiss his cheek
"Yes ma'am" he smiles with a giggle
"Now lets go home before Luke shows up there"
On the drive back home I think about what have I done. Maybe Karev will go easy on me because I'm just a little girl, after all.
"Cal we need to be very careful" I say when he parked outside my building "Luke can absolutely never know about this, he doesn't want me anywhere near Karev and will be so pissed of at us if he finds out"
"I know, we'll match our stories and lie when necessary" We walk into the building, his voice gives me strength "He won't find out" Calum assures me
"He better not" I bite the inside of my cheek "And you can't do more drugs, I'm risking my relationship with Luke to save your ass, so please don't fuck up" I love Calum like my own brother but sometimes he needs some tough love
"Yes, I know it" we walk to my door and he takes his keys out of his pocket to unlock my front door. By this point I think the whole UCLA has keys to my house. "I won't fuck up, I promise you pretty"
"Thanks, you're like a brother to me you know this" I hug him and we enter my flat
Mike is asleep at the couch so Cal and I tip toe to my bedroom but first we stop by the kitchen to get some ice cream and pizza that we bought for lunch. I check my phone, Luke hasn't called so that means he's still asleep.
Cal and I jump on my bed and I turn the TV on and log into Netflix, he chooses Daredevil which makes me miss Andrew. My brother loves Daredevil. We watch the first 4 episodes in a row, only stopping to go to the bathroom or take more food. Cal is so easy to talk to and we get along so well, he's a lighter version of my brother. Andrew's temper is pretty much Luke, but his kind and warm heart is 100% Calum, that's why Cal and I are such great friends.
We were about to start episode 5 when Luke walks in my room
"Hi guys" he rubs his eyes "So cute you two looking like kindergarten friends" he lies in bed,pulling me into his arms
"Hi baby" I smile and kiss his lips, Cal pauses the tv
"Hey mate" he smirks "You look like a bus ran over you"
"I slept far too much it just made me more tired" he yawns which makes Cal and I yawn too "Why didn't you call to wake me up? You're kinda sloppy for a girlfriend"
I roll my eyes, I didn't call because Cal and I were paying our drug dealer. Yes, it has been a few weeks but I started to buy things from Karev. Don't judge me, I had a hard time.
"We lost track of time, you know watching Daredevil non stopping" Calum says quickly, thats good because Luke always knows when I'm lying.
"For how long you two are tucked in?" Luke asks Calum so I turn on my side and lay my head on his shoulder
"So long" Cal says and I giggle "I drove here after I napped because I was starving, when I got here Mike was asleep so as the girls so I ate pizza and cereal and woke up Alaska to watch Netflix" he chews his 4th bowl of cereal
"Anyways" he nods "How about we hit the club tonight?" Luke asks
"Yes!" Calum replies immediately "Gosh yes!"
Luke's phone buzzes and he stands up to take the call. I sit on the bed
"I'm not very excited to go clubbing" I rub my eyes
"Oh, c'mon! It'll be fun" Cal cheers me up "We could all use some fun"
"Fine" I roll my eyes and stand up when I hear my phone bip.
I take it from the night stand and check my new message
*I need to collect one favor tonight* It's a block number but I know far too well who is it
What am I gonna do? Because Karev is not the kind of person that likes to listen to "no"
