Quick Authors Note: some of these won't follow the path of the series, some will. This one has a few bit that don't align with the show but make sense to the one shot. If that ain't your thing, then maybe this one shots book isn't for you.

Carls POV

I left the note folded carefully on Y/N's doorstep in Alexandria, my quiet knock on the door causing a light inside to come on. I hopped down off the porch and into the tree line, watching as the door opened slowly.

Y/N stepped out slowly, looking around cautiously as her bare foot stepped on to the paper. She stopped and looked down it, confusion washing over her. I felt my own excitement rise as she reached down and picked it up, looking around and then going back into her house.

I'd known her for nearly 4 months now and hadn't spoken more than two sentences to her. Dad didn't trust her mother or sister, he tried to keep us as separated from them as he could, while still keeping the peace in town. I'd seen her off on runs before, she was fast and strong, stronger than anyone else I knew. And she was damn good shot. Took out two walkers from 200 feet away when I met her, she saved my life that day.

Since then I'd wanted to know her, I'd admired her from a distance for long enough. But I never knew what to say when I did try to approach her, so I'd usually walk past her pretending I hadn't seen her. So, the note was my next option.

My confession was within, and if she even felt a sliver of similar feelings towards me, than she would leave on the porch with her reply inside.

My excitement started to turn to anxiousness when the light inside the house turned off, the sudden though if her ignoring it enter my mind, along with many other thoughts.

I was about to move out of the tree line when the front door opened, a hand placing the re folded paper down on the ground came through before it closed without a sound. I waited a few moments before retrieving it.

I moved back to my place in the tree line and opened it, and my excitement only grew. The side door to Y/N's house opened and closed quickly.

Y/N's POV

I moved out of the house quietly, closing the side door loud enough for Carl to hear in the tree line. I'd seen him peek out when u turned the light inside off, I had to be sure it was him.

I'd waited weeks for him to so much as look at me, say something, even just stand near me without needing to take a few steps away. I'd craved his attention, wished he'd be put in a run with me, but it never came and I do ever mentioned him, my mother would have a hissy fit.

I stepped outside and took a look around, seeing no one I ran quickly into the tree line behind the house, and through the fencing that had yet to be properly reinforced. The wind was warm, as the mid summer night carried me towards the small abandoned barn I'd frequented on my days without chores.

Amongst the moss and overgrown trees, I moved up the old wooden ladder and into the hayloft, checking for any walkers inside before hopping down into one of the old stalls.

The small cot and chest is left in the stall were dust covered from my lack of return. I hadn't been back in nearly two weeks, I'd become so busy after proving my speed and agility on a run with Michonne, that u was our nearly everyday.

I sat down and waited quietly, remembering what I'd written in my reply to Carl.

'I've been hoping you felt something for me, anything at all, but I want to speak to you in person, not on paper.
Meet me in the abandon barn on the outskirts of town, the one you and Daryl found me and my family in during the winter. I'll be there as soon as you hear the side door close, please come, I need to see you.'

I reread my words in my mind over and over, trying my best not to let my anxiety and excitement get the better of me. The sudden sound of feet on the wooden ladder outside brought me back to reality, my excitement growing even more.

I stood and walked out into the hall, looking up into the loft to see Carl in window, looking back outside before turning around and seeing me.

We stood silently for a moment, staring longingly at one another like we'd hadn't seen each other in months. His hair moved in wind the pushed through the broken roof, the white bandages over his eye almost glowing in the moonlight.

I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. I was at a loos of words, after all this time spent thinking of what I would say in this moment, all the days I spent doing chores with only this scenario playing through my mind like an old song you can't quite forget. I had so many things I wanted to say, but none of it would come out.

Carl looked down at his feet, fiddling with something in his hands that i couldn't see. He looked back towards me and towards the ground below the loft.

"I was scared it wasn't you." He mumbled.

"What?"

"I was scared it wasn't you who would find the note, let alone that you would reply to it." He walked towards the edge of the loft and stepped down onto the edge of one of the stalls.
"I thought that maybe when I opened it, it would be a reply telling me to fuck off or something." He breathed a laugh.

He hopped down into the dirt, and the item he had in his hand came into view, the note.

"I wasn't sure if it was you who'd really left it, so I guess we both had our own fears." I said, my voice a bit shaky from my excitement.

Outside the barn I could hear the trees swaying in the breeze, a few walkers moving through them in the distance. The silence of the barn was louder than anything I'd ever heard, it felt suffocating.

Carl sighed as he opened the paper, his fingers moving carefully over the words we'd written. "I was scared that  you would ignore it, or give this to my dad. I debated on this note for nearly a week, I even had to pace outside your house in the tree line for nearly a half hour before I placed it there."

His sweet blue eye looked up at me, I could feel the need to fill the space between us, reach out to him and bring him close to me. Feel the warmth of his body, the strength of his arms around me, I desired it more and more with every passing second.

"How long have you been hoping I would confess to you?" He asked quietly, almost whispering.

"Since about three weeks after we'd been brought in by you guys, three weeks after I saved you." I replied and looked down, embarrassed by the amount of time I'd spent wanting him.

"Guess I win then." He laughed. "I think I'd been in love with you since I met you."

I smiled. "Really?"

He stepped forward, loosing about of foot and a half of space between us. He smiled.

"There was some other things I wanted to do, if you ended replying to my note."

"And what was that." I stepped forward, another foot between us gone. We had less than 4 feet between us, but I wanted to lose more.

"Things I'd seen others do, my parents, Glen and Maggie, your mom and Daryl." He took a small step forward. "When they'd get really close, I'd always wondered what it felt like." I took at step.

"When they'd press their lips together, and hold each other tight you mean." I small step forwards came from both of us, and my chest brushed his.

I could feel the heat of his breath on my face as he looked down a me, the warmth radiating off of him.

"Yes, when they'd kiss each other they always seemed so happy to do it, like it was perfectly natural to them." His gaze soften suddenly, his eyes moving across my face and stopping on my lips.

"I'd asked Enid once if it was nice, being able to kiss someone." I said quietly. "She said that it was the most pleasant feeling, to have soft lips on your own, but I never quite believed her."

He looked into my eyes and I could tell we were thinking the same thing. To fill that final space and close our eyes, let whatever happens happen.

"Y/N?" He looked into my eyes as the wind rustled the trees outside.

"Yes Carl?"

"Can I kiss you?" He whispered, his head inching closer to mine.

I took his hand and mine and filled the space before I could answer, letting my eyes close and lips meet his.

When my lips touched his, there was a small moment of hesitation between us, the unsure notion that maybe we were doing it wrong, but there was only one way to know if it truly is. I let myself give into him, his mouth moving over mine in soft, hungry kisses.

Our finger intertwined and the paper landed on the floor. He rapped one arm around my waist and I moved my own into his hair, the soft locks twirling around my fingers.

I the air around us was growing hot, stuffy, and I could feel my lungs needing more air. I pushed back for a moment, placing my forehead onto his and breathing in deeply. His grip on my waist tightened as I looked into his eyes, a smile creeping onto both our faces. I giggled at him, and chuckled back.

"I think we might've done that wrong." I said, wiping a bit of saliva off my bottom lip.

"I think your right." Carl laughed, nuzzling his nose against my cheek.

First one, I honestly like it but I would truly appreciate any feedback from y'all. Can't wait to make more of these.
