New Hair
Violet woke up with a smile as her alarm had went off which read 11:45 am, today was finally the day, her birthday which also happened to be Valentine's Day. She found it cliche that she was born on the day of love as she didn't have love herself, but that didn't matter as she was finally 15. Her eyes gazed around the room thinking about what she should do as it a Saturday which meant no school and nobody really knew her birthday aside from Lucas, Cory, Topanga and Katy, she thought of telling Shawn but decided to make him guess. What she didn't know was that Shawn was informed by Cory and Topanga and was out planning her a surprise birthday party. She checked her phone and smiled at the birthday wishes before she decided to make herself some breakfast, Shawn left her a note 'Happy Birthday my partner in crime! I'll try to be back before nightfall, don't get into too much trouble without me ❤️' and that made her smile even more.
Ever since he stayed over that one night on Maya's birthday (January 16), they've been closer than ever and it scared her to think she let him in so quickly as she had offered him to stay with her whenever he was in town and didn't care about how long it'd be as she enjoyed the company. Violet didn't know what to think or how to feel about allowing herself to be vulnerable with someone other than Lucas or even the Matthews (Cory and Topanga). Violet decided to eat an apple and made Eclipse her own special peanut butter pancakes as she sat down at the table to eat "What should I do today?" she hummed to herself as she's never really use to having free time of any sense. She looked at her hair that seemed to have grown down to her middle back over the course of months since she did her big chop.
"Hmm maybe I should dye it. Blue and white is starting to become a bore" Violet hummed and decided that it was time for a change as she finished her apple and turned on some music as she pulled out what she needed for the transformation. Violet was lucky that she had an assortment of colors and treatments whenever she wanted to dye her hair as cosmetology was her life. After choosing her colors, she started the process and managed to finish her hair within a hour and a half and as she was drying her hair, the familiar sounds of "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy" played and immediately she knew who it was as she answered it "Howdy Cowboy" she greeted as she placed him on speaker.
"Happy birthday Darling! What's on your agenda today?" Lucas asked her as he was part of her secret birthday surprise and he couldn't stop his grin when he heard her say "Thank you! And absolutely nothing surprisingly. I just dyed my hair but that's about it and that's insane especially with it being my birthday I thought I'd have a plan but I guess I've been too caught up with school and Shawn that I forgot to plan anything." "Well it's your lucky day! I'm taking you out for your birthday and I want to see your hair so I'm coming over" he told her and with that he hung up before she could even speak. Violet shook her head with a smile as she finished drying her hair and decided to do small curls and by the time she finished she heard her room door open knowing it was Lucas as the only other person with a key to her house was Shawn.
"There's the birthday girl" Lucas announced as he came into the room scanning the room and saw his beautiful best friend and he couldn't help but to admire her new hair "Woah." Violet giggled as she looked at him with a smirk twirling her hair with her fingers "You like" she teased and she didn't even need to know the answer as he was basically gawking at her as he nodded his head. She walked over to him and gave him a twirl so that he could see all of it "I'm glad you like it now let me get dressed" she told him as she stripped out of her pajamas and into her birthday outfit. She went into the bathroom and did her make up which was a Valentine's Day inspired look and once she finished she looked over at Lucas who seemed to be watching her every move. Lucas couldn't help his stare as Violet was one of the most beautiful women ever in existence, but he knew he couldn't be weird so he shook of the stare "You took your medicine today right" he asked.
"Thanks for the reminder, sheesh I almost forgot" Violet told him as she went to her dresser and took her anxiety and antidepressant pills "Okay so what did you have in mind?" she questioned him as she wondered what he had planned for them to do and she hoped it was fun. "Well for starters, we need to head to the diner. Don't question it" Lucas told her as he grabbed her hand when she was ready to go and placed on Eclipse's vest for her. Violet nodded as she listened to him and didn't question him as they left the house and headed to the diner. Her eyes brightened when they made it as she saw Katy and even Eclipse could feel her happiness as she let out a small bark wagging her tail. Once they made it to the counter, Katy smiled "Happy birthday my little sparky! I absolutely love what you did what your hair and this outfit wow" she told her as she came around the register and gave her a hug which Violet returned as she found it easier to hug the same sex than it was the opposite sex.
"Thanks Katy! I wanted to do something different for my birthday" Violet told her as she released the hug and stepped back to get her mind back in order as she watched Lucas go up to Katy whispering in her ear but she couldn't hear what it was. "Oh right someone left this here for you" Katy told her as she handed her envelope which Violet took confused as she opened it saw a piece of paper "Happy Birthday Sky! Come find me and you'll have the time of your life, starting where you find the most comfort" she read the note out loud as she looked at Lucas. Lucas shrugged innocently "Seems as though we have to find this person. Where do you find the most comfort" he asked and she thought about it before answering "Library." And with that they were off, but not before Violet gave another hug to Katy who gave her a slice of pie to go which she appreciated and ate on their walk to the library that wasn't too far from the diner.
Once they made it to the library, Violet started to look around for anybody who she could deem familiar to her and saw none as she walked past her bay window and saw a book sitting against one the pillows. She thought it was strange as she picked it up and noticed she knew the book well, it was one of her favorites, "The Color Purple". Her eyes glazed over the book to see if had any clues and not many people knew it was one of her favorite books of all time, she noticed that there a note sticking out as she pulled it out "Congrats you found your first clue! This book is now apart of your collection (meaning you can keep it. Danielle, the librarian says it's your birthday gift for being her favorite customer). Don't worry there's only 3 more to go before you can find me. For your next clue, if you're hungry then this clue is for you. Is my-krainian bakery" she read out loud and she immediately knew where they had to go next.
"You got the answer already?" Lucas asked in shock as he knew she was smart but he didn't think she'd get the riddle this quickly "Yes I did we are going to Svorski's one of my favorite places to eat" she answered him as she gave Eclipse a treat for being patient and placed the book into her bag. They soon left and headed towards the subway as the bakery was on the other side of a town, once off the train they made their way over to the bakery and Violet immediately took in the atmosphere missing the Ukrainian bakery. Violet immediately walked over to Mrs. Svorski greeting her "Hi Nana how are you doing I haven't seen you in about a month" she said to older lady who smiled "Ah my beloved little sun happy birthday" she told her and carefully hugged her and Violet immediately hugged back feeling the tears prick at her eyes but calmed them down.
Violet released the older woman and ordered her usual which consisted of two cinnamon rolls, a piece of chocolate cake, three donuts and a hot chocolate before looking over a Lucas "You want anything? she asked him as he seemed to be in shock at her order. "You're gonna eat all that by yourself" Lucas questioned her before he remembered how she liked to eat "Never mind don't answer that. I'll take a cinnamon roll" he told her as he flinched at her glare when he had mentioned her eating habits. Violet smiled when he flinched as she looked back to Mrs. Svorski who got their things together and handed them their order on a tray which Lucas took as Violet grabbed her hot chocolate and made her way to her personal favorite booth. "You know I've never done a scavenger hunt before but this is actually fun" she admitted before she immediately started eating her food humming in delight.
Lucas smiled "I'm glad that you're having fun and enjoying this little adventure" he told her as he ate his cinnamon bun melting at the taste. Mrs. Svorski came over and handed Eclipse a biscuit as she rubbed her head "You good dog" she praised her and Eclipse loved every bit of it before left the two to finish their food. Once she noticed that they finished, she walked back over with a box in her hand "Riddle?" she asked Violet who looked at her and nodded "Is not Ukrainian bakery" she said as Mrs. Svorski finished it "Is my-krainian bakery". Mrs. Svorski looked at her proud as she handed her the box, kissing her hand before she resumed back to work and Violet smiled at her as she looked at the box in confusion as she unwrapped it and opened it revealing a beautiful amethyst ring.
Violet looked at it in shock as she bit her lip, it was the ring she's been wanting from the local jewelry shop but when she went to finally pay for it, it was already sold "I- How did they know" she asked softly as the tears threatened to pour out of her eyes again. She was so grateful for whoever put together the scavenger hunt and giving her gifts as she never really was good at receiving them but she loved giving them. Lucas eyes softened as he could tell how appreciative Violet was of the scavenger hunt as he held her hand "Put it on" he suggested to her and watched as she did just that and placed the ring into her right ring finger "Perfect fit" Violet said as she stared at it. She still couldn't believe that she was wearing the ring she's been wanting, who would know that she wanted it, she doesn't remember speaking about it.
Violet's Ring
She noticed that this time she wasn't given a note or clue but she was soon mistaken as Mrs. Svorski comes over "My mistake little Sun" she told her as she handed her the note with an apologetic smile. Violet smiled back at the woman as she read the note "I hope the pastries were die for as I know how much you love them and I hope the ring gave you a big smile as it symbolizes happiness and sincerity. Two more and you'll find me. For your next clue: Alex" and looked at Lucas for a hint as she shook his head. She thought about it thinking where has she heard the name or why would it be significant to her. Violet blew a raspberry as she couldn't think of any Alex that came to mind and that made her upset as she was on a roll and decided to look around to see if anything would help her figure it out. Nothing in the bakery seemed to help Violet as she looked at every single inch of the bakery and still didn't see anything.
Violet looked defeated as she couldn't think before she remembered her favorite cartoon lion "Oh gosh I got it. Alex the lion! The Central Park zoo" she said in realization as she rubbed her temples and Lucas nods. "Isn't he your favorite lion from the movie Madagascar?" he asked her causing her to nod excitedly "Yeah I use to do his dance every time" she told him as they got up and headed for the zoo and she was excited as she loved the zoo. Her eyes glanced at the time and saw that it was already 2:56 pm, they've been out and about for 3 hours already and she couldn't believe it as they took the subway once again. Her brain shifted to Shawn as she wondered what job he had to do today and she couldn't wait to hear about it. Once they made it to the zoo, Violet looked around in awe at all the animals that were in her sights as she tried her best not to fangirl too hard and you could see that she was excited as she was shaking.
Lucas watched her look around and he has never seen her so happy while being in a public area as she was normally cautious about her surroundings, but right now at this moment she seemed so carefree. "To the lions I'm assuming?" he had suggested to Violet who nodded as she had secured Eclipse's leash not trusting to let her roam free to avoid any confrontation. She began to lead the way and hummed to herself as she reached her free hand back to Lucas who walked up to hold it as if she was Thor and he was her hammer. Reaching the lions, Violet's excitement went through the roof as her inner child was very happy to be at the zoo as she jumped up and down "Lucas look" she said pointing at the lions and Lucas nods laughing "I see them darling."
Violet watched some lions play and run around as others laid and rest in their enclosure, after a good few minutes she got it out of her system and calmed down and pulled Lucas so that they could look at some other animals before they start looking for the next clue. They saw all kinds of animals and she made sure to take pictures and videos as she was taking a picture of the zebras, Lucas snuck away to call Cory. "We're about to be making our way there soon. She's really have a lot of fun" he told him as he sent the pictures of her that he took the birthday group chat that they had created before hanging up when he saw the note in Violet's hand "How'd you find that?" he had asked as he was too preoccupied on the phone and Violet grinned "You wouldn't believe me if I told you" she said as he responded "Try me". Violet simply grinned even more "A zebra gave it me. I couldn't believe it either but I was taking my picture when I noticed one of the zebras kind of looking at me with something in its mouth. I will say there was a zookeeper behind the fence so it was probably trained to do it but still it was so cool" she ranted.
She took a deep breath as she calmed herself and looked at the note that was surprisingly not ripped from being in the animal's mouth and began to read it "Congrats on finding your clue from Marty, Alex's best friend. You have one more clue before you can find me and this time I'll make the clue easy. Your next clue: Winnie and Tigger". Violet grinned as she knew where their next stop "To the Matthews' thank god this was easy. I'm glad I get to see Panga and Cory" she told Lucas who nods in agreement "Me too. It wouldn't be a birthday without them" he responded as they got water from a concession stand to cool down as they had been walking the park for a while. Violet made sure to share her water with Eclipse before they once again took the subway as she shook in excitement. After a good while on the subway, they finally reached their destination as they got off and headed to the Matthews' for the final clue.
Violet realized she would have to see the golden duo but with how great her day was going she could careless if they said anything to her or even looked in her direction. She took a deep breath as they made it and knocked on the door before entering when she realized the door was unlocked like usual. "Happy birthday Eeyore!" Auggie shouted as he was the first to notice her and Violet smiled as she picked him up in a hug when he came barreling at her. She held him on her hip as she couldn't stop her smile from growing when she saw Topanga and Cory as they held arms out for her causing her to set Auggie down and come running into their arms "Happy birthday Sky" they said in unison as they hugged her. Topanga took in Violet's new appearance and immediately approved "That purple and black really suits you. Dark colors are your thing" she complimented as Cory took in Violet's new look as well before agreeing with his wife as he snapped his finger sassily "You are working it!"
Violet couldn't help but feel so much serotonin as she blushed at the praise "Thank you guys so much" she told as she looked at them both. She noticed that Shawn wasn't here with them and decided to ask about it "Is he still working?" and Topanga being the stronger liar of the two answered for them "Yes honey unfortunately but he should be done pretty soon. He said it was taking a little longer than it normally does". Violet was disappointed that he might miss her birthday entirely but shook the thought as she trusted him "What's my final clue?" she asked as she remembered that they had her final clue before she could find out who planned all this. "Oh yeah" Topanga said as Cory pulled the clue out of his pocket "Congratulations on finding all the clues, I hope you had tons of fun and now it's time for you to find me with this last clue. Your day has been long with you being outside now it's time to go back to where you reside" he read.
Violet furrowed her brow "They want me to go back home? I don't see how that'll help me find them but I guess if that's what I got to do, but first I need a bathroom break" she said as she left to the bathroom. While Violet was in the bathroom what she didn't know was that everyone had left the apartment leaving her there alone with Lucas and Eclipse, with the latter being confused on why everybody left in a hurry. She did her business and freshened up before she walked out "Alright I'm ready to go" she announced before she stopped in her tracks as she realized there was nobody there but Lucas. "Where'd the Matthews go" she had asked Lucas as she tried to think of why they would leave in such a hurry, but couldn't think of any reasoning. "They got a call from Ms. Hart regarding Riley and Maya and took Auggie with them" Lucas had lied through his teeth as he had said what Topanga coached him to say and Violet sighed "Of course they somehow have to be involved somehow. Well let's go."
To say she was a bit frustrated was an understatement, but she had an overall fantastic birthday and she gets to find out who planned it all. Violet smiled at Lucas as he grabbed her hand which helped her snap out of her thoughts as they headed to her house with Eclipse following beside them happily as they rode the subway for the last time. She leaned against Lucas as they rode the train "You've been an amazing scavenger partner" she told him causing him to look at her with a smile of his own. "Any time darling. I guess it's now or never to give you my present" he told her as he reached into his cargo pants pocket pulling out a box and handed to her nervously as she took the box gracefully. "You didn't have to get me anything Cowboy" Violet told him as she opened what seemed to be a jewelry box and gasped as she saw a beautiful silver butterfly necklace.

"Lucas what the fuck it's beautiful. I love it" Violet said with a smile and handed the necklace over to him to place on her as she turned around lifting her hair up so that it didn't get caught in the mix. Lucas carefully wrapped the necklace around her neck and clipped it closed watching as Violet turned back around to show him what it looked like and he couldn't help but to smile. "It looks beautiful on you Sky, I know how much you love butterflies" he told her as he looked out the window and noticed it was their stop, they got off the subway and headed straight to her place telling jokes on the way. Once they reached her door, Lucas quickly texted the group chat that they were outside as he put his phone away just in time for her not see it "Well we're here might as well go inside" Lucas suggested as he put the key in unlocking the door.
Violet pushed the door open noticing that it was darker in her house than normal and before she could even register anything, lights flickered on and all she heard was "Surprise!" causing her to jump on Lucas in fear who caught her without hesitation. "It's okay Sky look" he reassured her as he gently placed her down and pointed at their group of friends which consisted of: Farkle, Cory, Topanga, Josh, Auggie, Katy, Maya, Riley and of course Shawn. Her eyes widened at the people in the house as she never had this many people in her house since her parents died and she didn't know how to react. She walked to the group before her eyes finally registered that Shawn was there, "You liars" Violet said to Cory and Topanga who laughed watching her jump on Shawn who gracefully caught her.
Shawn smiled as he held her in his arms "Happy birthday Gem. How'd you enjoy my scavenger hunt" he asked and Violet buried her face into his neck happy that he actually made it to her birthday, she couldn't believe she didn't suspect him to be the one who made hunt when it was blatantly obvious. She realized what he called her and it made her beam as she liked it "Thank you Shawn it was loads of fun! But what I want to know is how'd you find out about the ring? I've never told anyone about it" she had asked him as she wiggled out of his arms remembering that there was guests other than just them. Maya and Riley who saw the scene inwardly frowned as Riley realized she would have to work harder on her plan to make Shawn Maya's dad. Shawn glanced at her realizing her hair was different "Wait woah new hair? I love it. But to answer your question I had Lucas tail you and it had just so happened that Farkle heard you mumble about it at some point and boom I bought it for you" he explained.
Violet smiled liking that Shawn approved of her hair color before she squinted "You spied on your own partner how rude but I guess thank you" she said as she showed him what it looked like on her. Shawn grinned as he made the right choice in ring size before he examined her "That necklace is new" he said and Violet nodded "Birthday present from Lucas" she told him and he nodded as he thought it suited her "He chose well. Now enough about me mingle" he shooed her off. Violet giggled as she looked around before she saw her target "Tigger!" she exclaimed throwing herself at him and thankfully Josh caught her "Hey Eeyore. I didn't know that we are birthday twins" he said to her which made her eyes widened "It's your birthday too? What are the odds of that?" Violet giggled. "How old did you turn?" she asked him as she knew he wasn't that much older than her, "I turned 16 how about you 14?" Josh had guessed which caused her to wack him "No I'm 15 I'm a 2000s baby" she told him as she got out of his arms.
"Oh cool I'm a 1990s baby I was born in 1999" he had told her and she nodded as she had did the math as soon as he said his age, Violet found it cool that they were both born on the same day just a year apart which she also found crazy because what were the odds of that. The two seemed to catch up quickly before it was time for the party to actually start as they played games and ate food which thankfully Topanga and Katy cooked the food. Violet was having the time of her life as this was the first time she has celebrated her birthday in 7-8 years and she actually enjoyed every bit of it as she took pictures and as if Shawn had the same idea he had whipped out his digital camera and made sure to get every moment that he could. Soon enough, it was cake time as Violet watch Shawn take out a custom made cow cake just for her causing her to shake and stim her hands in excitement.
She stood in front of the beautifully decorated cake trying to ease her excitement as she loves cows and Shawn understood how much she loved them enough to get her a cake that was a cow. Violet eyes widened when she realized they had took out a second cake as well but it was sunflowers and that made her squeal softly, she absolutely adores sunflowers. Her mind tried to make sense of the 2 cakes as she realized the cow cake was her personal cake and the sunflower cake was the cake that was going to be shared and she felt honored enough to have both. She managed to calm down her excitement which the adults found adorable as they counted everyone in and started to sing happy birthday to her. Once the song ended, she closed her eyes and blew out the candles making a wish.
Violet cut the cake evenly enough as she distributed a slice to everyone as she sat with Lucas, Farkle and the golden duo. "Happy birthday spitfire how does it feel being older? I never realized that you are a year ahead of us yet you're in the same grade as us" Farkle said to her as she smiled taking a bite of cake humming in delight "Oh well I started a year late due to my health but I do plan on catching up during the summer break" she explained. Her eyes went to Riley and Maya who seemed to already be staring at her "I do not want my happiness ruined tonight so if you have a complaint or an issue you can take it up with me when it's not my birthday" she told them before she leaned against Lucas as she ate the rest of her cake. After an hour, Violet was starting to get sleepy and as if Shawn had spidey senses his eyes looked over to her watching her start to deteriorate socially.
He took charge as he knew that this was a lot for her socially and he felt bad that he surprised with so many people in her own home especially without getting permission, but she looked like she had fun and that was all that mattered to him. "Alrighty people it's starting to get late, I'm sure it's bed time for a few of you guys" he said to the group as he made a joke, Cory looked at the time and noticed how late it was "Oh gee he's right Topanga, clean up time" he said helping Shawn try to clear house. Within a few minutes everything was cleaned and put away just like they found it, Violet yawned repeatedly as she stood up almost falling if it wasn't for Lucas "Hey now Sky it's okay. Everybody is leaving" he reassured her but she was stubborn even when sleep was calling her name.
"Sshhhhhhh cowboy I need to say my goodbyes to my peoples" she said as she pushed her fingers to his lips and stumbled to hug her guests goodbye, Shawn looked at Violet and without hesitation picked her up taking her to her room "Wheeeee" she said as she yawned. Shawn knew better than to allow Violet to expose her vulnerability even if she did trust those present, he preferred it to be when she was fully functional "Stay here Gem. I'm going to go thank everyone for coming okay" he said to her causing her to nod repeatedly with a sleepy smile. He thought it was adorable as he walked out of her room and walked up to the Matthews "Thank you guys for helping me plan all of this. I know it's not really my style but when I heard she's never had a birthday I just had to do something" he said to them as his best friend, Cory hugged him "I'm proud of you Shawny you guys have a nice night" he said as him and Topanga took their children with them with Auggie having to be held by Josh due to him falling asleep.
Shawn thanked Katy and the boys for showing up and helping with everything as well and Katy simply smiled at him. "That's my girl, anything regarding her I'm always down to help her as she's helped me a lot" she told him as Maya stared at him "Nice seeing you Shawn I guess" she told him before she left with her mother with Lucas and Farkle following close behind. Shawn sighed as he looked around the house making sure everything was okay and checked on the animals before he locked the house down. "Shawnnnnn!" Violet yelled for him with a pout as she didn't like that he was gone for so long, hearing her yell Shawn came jogging in "Hey I'm here. I was just making sure everything was okay in the house" he reassured causing her to nod.
"I need bath I stinky" Violet whined as she just wanted to go to bed as she struggled to take off her shoes and fell back on the bed, Shawn shook his head at the scene as he bent down and took off her shoes followed by her garter that was on her left thigh. Shawn went to the bathroom and grabbed a makeup wipe as he remembered that she needed to take her makeup off "Sit up Gem I need to take off your make up" he told her as she complied sleepily as she leaned against him allowing him to take off her eye makeup. Once he was done, Violet practically crawled to the bathroom closing the door as she stripped and took a shower, cleaning off all the dirt and sweat from the day. While she was showering, Shawn went to the other bathroom and took one of his own putting on his sleeping clothes as he grabbed one of his shirts for her to wear. Shawn made it back into the room to see Violet with a towel wrapped around her body "I didn't know what to put on" she told him as she looked at him for help with a pout.
He chuckled shaking his head as he carefully placed the shirt that he had over her head helping her put it on "Now go put on shorts I'll turn around" he told her as he turned around so that she could drop the towel and place on shorts and when she did, she tugged at his shirt. "Alright Gem now we can go to sleep" he told her as he turned on the TV knowing that needs background sound and allowed her to get in bed first before he followed after her. Violet turned over and rested her head on his chest as she wrapped an arm around him "Thank you for everything" she mumbled before completely dozing off as Shawn kissed her head "I'd give you the world Gem, if you only knew" he said softly knowing that she couldn't hear him. Even though they haven't known each other long, Shawn felt tied to her and he wanted to do nothing more than to protect her from the world and with that thought, he too dozed off to sleep.

Disclaimer: hope you guys enjoy! I thought it would be cute to have a chapter where Violet celebrated her birthday, being that Maya's birthday was the last chapter it kind of gave me the freedom to do so being that Maya birthday was January 16th. Violet's ring is an amethyst because of her birth stone and it's also the reason why I decided to have Shawn give Violet her own personal nickname from him, Gem and it's funny as I now realized that I just made her hair purple and her name is light purple and her birth stone is also purple lol. But anyways I should have the next chapter up by later today I already started writing it but stopped mid chapter to make this chapter lol but yeah. Tell me what you guys think?
