A kid at school asked me
why do you read so much?
My simplest answer is
that I wished to be such
I could meet my lover
and have real friends
I'd make bad choices
and still have happy ends
I could be a warrior
and prove all of them wrong
or be a soft compassionate
writing poetry and song
I could be a princess
draped in gold and jewel
never a reason to cry
and never used like a tool
I'd have some challenges
But I'd overcome
Villain's wouldn't catch me
their simply too dumb
Good guys always win
in a storybook or tale
despite the stacked odds
they hardly ever fail
My pen's ink wouldn't run out
the stories pages wouldn't burn
No one would judge the cover
and each page would make them turn
Perhaps they'd learn a lesson
or walk away with nothing
but it wouldn't matter to me
because I would be somebody
