I think I learnt how to love from my father...
... he too, loves so hard it nearly kills him.
Tears him apart from the inside,
till he's covered in blood, and guts, and shame.
Unknowing how to help.
I love like plants love the rain,
Seeking more and more of you till I'm drowning.
I love like a farmer tending to crops, constantly, tenderly, respectfully.
I like to take my time with things,
like peeling an orange perfectly clean,
or carefully opening a pomegranate,
trying my best not to crush any seeds with gentle fingers,
completely enamoured by this crimson bomb.
Some people hate pomegranates,
they say "it's too much work! They stain my hands and always leave this bitter taste in my mouth"
But I see myself in this undesirable fruit,
I too am turning bitter, sour, wrinkled, waiting here..
.. for someone to take the time,
open up my heart - slowly - patiently discovering my inner most self,
every pitiful and relentless thing about me - an undesirable fruit - and choosing to love me anyway.
