Bella knew how excited Mark had been that they were having a baby. He had been overprotective of her knowing he didn't want to risk anything happening to her or the baby.

They hadn't told anyone she was pregnant yet. Grace knew which Mark knew was expected. Bella and Grace told each other everything.

Mark was thrilled knowing he and Bella were having a baby. And he took delight in talking to her stomach every night. He wanted to be there every step of the way for the baby.

It wasn't easy. But Bella was scared of being a mom. She just knew she was going to do all she could to be a good mom. Knowing having a baby had been something she and Mark had talked about for a while.

Bella walked into the kitchen and grinned. She saw Mark who was trying to make waffles. "You don't need to do that," she said.

Mark rolled his eyes. "Sit down. Be quiet. And let me make my kid pancakes," he told her as he looked to her.

Bella nodded. She sat down and waited for Mark. He handed her a plate. "They're not the best. But you need to eat. The baby needs strength."

Bella smiled. "You're so sweet."

"I know."

****

Bella was sitting in the locker room at the hospital with Grace. Grace was thrilled that Bella was having a baby. It was something she knew her best friend had wanted

Cristina turned to look at her friends. "Owen washed my hair. And he told me to eat this grainy nut bar. And he booked me into surgery this morning. He is in charge of me. I'm a bride, and I'm going with it," she said.

Meredith shrugged. "But trauma guy didn't clear you."

"Yeah, but he said he'll figure that out."

Bella turned around. She looked at the staring people. "Yes. Okay, I am the crazy one. I am the one who freaks out and screams at people ... Like that," she mumbled. She was sick of the looks she was getting.

Grace turned to them. "Go gawk at each other for a while," she told them as the other pagers went off.

Meredith looked to Bella. "Are you okay?" She questioned.

Bella rolled her eyes. "Would everybody please just stop asking if I am okay? Okay?" She said as she grabbed her lab coat and walked off.

Grace stood and walked out after her. She smiled. "Bella. Is everything okay?" She asked.

Bella sighed and nodded. "Yeah. It's all fine."

"Is it the baby?"

Bella shook her head. "No. It's fine. I'm all good. The baby is good. Mark made waffles. Even though they looked more like pancakes. But he's trying. He's treating me like I'm vulnerable though. And I'm not," she said.

"Well Derek is still in jail. I had to leave him there. Because I'm scared that with how he's driving, he's going to wrap his car around a pole," Grace told her.

****

A police car had dropped off Derek in the ambulance bay. April looked to him. "Dr. Shepherd, the chief is looking for you," she said.

"I know."

"You missed the wedding last night," April told him as she looked to him.

"I know."

"You smell like pee."

"I know."

Derek walked onto the elevator. He saw Bella there who looked to him. "What's up jailbird?" Bella said.

"Funny Isabella," Derek said as Bella got off. He forced Grace to stay on the elevator with him. "Mm-hmm-hmm-hmm. How was the wedding?" He asked.

Grace shrugged. "It was fine. I'm sorry you missed it," she said as she looked to him.

Derek nodded. "Yeah, well, I was busy getting an incarceration record. Do you know what that means?"

"It means you drive too fast. Oh, God. Derek, you smell like..."

"yeah, I know what I smell like," Derek said as he rolled his eyes.

Grace got off the elevator and turned to him. "I have to go to the pit," she said.

"They cleared you for surgery?" Derek asked.

Grace shook her head. "No, but I can still do consults. So sorry. Bye."

"We're not done talking about this!"

****

Bella walked over to Callie and Arizona. "Okay, I'm not saying rip out walls. I'm saying throw some paint up on 'em. You know, soften it up. Yang decorated the place for her, and it's just a little harsh and frowny," Arizona said.

Callie frowned. "Okay. I'm gonna stop you right there, 'cause Yang doesn't decorate. I decorated that place. It's my frowny place," she told her.

Bella grinned. She shrugged. "Well... it is kinda dark and depressing. Where's the colour?"

"I meant modern and edgy. If it's gonna be our place, I just need it to be a little more smiley."

"Ugh. My God. I ... frowny?"

Arizona smiled and kissed Callie's cheek as she walked off. "Edgy."

****

Bella and Grace were with Callie who looked to them. "Okay, multiple burn victims. Two with paralysis, three with vision loss, one, uh, blown eardrums, and one dislocated hip," she told them.

Grace frowned. "House fire? Explosion? Car wreck?" She questioned.

"Uh, act of God."

Bella tilted her head. "Act of God? The hell you talking about?" She asked.

Callie nodded. "Yeah, lightning strike."

Bailey shook her head in disbelief. "All that from one lightning strike? One lightning strike, eight victims," she said.

Callie nodded. "Took out a whole flag football team."

Bailey looked around at all the patients. She smiled. "God was in a mood today."

April frowned as she looked to them. "How did it strike all of 'em?" She asked.

Mark walked over. "Well, they're mostly flash burns, so it probably hit one of them then conducted off onto the rest. Bella. T.M. Rupture, trauma one. I'll see you in there," he said.

Bella walked to the trauma room. Mark walked over to Grace and Callie. "Tell me something. When a person gets out of the nut house, What's the appropriate amount of time to wait before you ask someone to get married? I proposed again and we were meant to have gotten married the day of the shooting. But she went a little nuts," he said.

Callie's eyes widened. "What? Long. Longer. Long ... a long time. Not now."

Grace nodded. She looked to him. "And given what she told you last week, let her get her mind round that first," she told him.

Callie frowned. "What did she tell you?"

"Nothing. Doesn't matter."

****

Bella and Mark are looking at her ear drums. Meredith walked in. "Hey, Kerry. A friend of yours, Russ Gammie, is asking about you."

Kerry, the patient frowned. "How's Warren Griffith? Is he okay? Did he ask about me?" She asked.

Meredith frowned an and looked to her. "Which one is Warren?" She questioned.

A boy, Mitch, walked in. He looked around. "Excuse me. Excuse me. I ..."

"Who's this, Russ or Warren?"

Kerry smiled slightly. "Mitch? Mitch now? Hey, have you seen Warren? Is he okay?" She asked.

Mitch sighed as she looked to her. "Kerry, I gotta say this. We both could've died out there. That lightning bolt was like a one-in-a-million shot, so I gotta take one, too. I love you, Kerry, and if we get through this, I want you to know, I will love you forever," he said.

It was obvious that Kerry was pretending to Mitch that she couldn't hear. Bella looked to him. "Sir, I'm sorry. If you're not being treated, then you're gonna have to go to the waiting room. Well ... we'll keep you posted," she told him as she took him outside.

Callie looked to Kerry and frowned. "Kerry, can you hear me?" She asked.

Kerry nodded. "Yeah, I can hear you fine. I just didn't want him to know that I heard that."

"You're a popular girl," Grace said as she walked into the room with Bella. She wanted to keep an eye on her best friend.

Kerry shook her head. She smiled. "No. I'm sure he's just overexcited. It is like a one-in-a-million thing," she told them.

"Actually, it's more like a 1-in-6, 250 kind of thing. Lightning kills between 150 to 300 people every year in the U.S. alone," Bella said with a shrug.

"Bella."

"Well, no, I mean, it's ... it's still rare. I mean, it's not, like, say, handgun death. I mean, that's ... that's 1 in 325," Bella told them.

Mark frowned. He looked to the love of his life. "Bella. You okay?" He asked. Knowing he was worried about her.

Bella nodded. "Yeah. No, I'm saying- I'm saying she's lucky. That's ... you know, hey, yay, you."

Kerry turned to Callie and Mark. "Can someone just please check on Warren for me? I need to know if he's okay," she said.

"Is Warren your boyfriend?" Grace asked. She was worried about Bella too. She knew she was pregnant. But she also knew that she was still struggling with the whole being committed.

Kerry shook her head. "No. He's ... No."

Mark nodded. "Okay. Well, you've got two burdrums, but they will heal themselves, too."

"Great. Thank you."

Bella turned to Mark. "Does that mean there's no surgery? Can I go? 'Cause Dr. Shepherd's here, so he might have something," she said.

Mark shook his head. "Maybe you should stick with me. Kerry will need a workup."

Bella sighed. She knew Mark was doing it again. Treating her like she was vulnerable.

****

Back on the trauma room, Bella was still there with Mark. He wasn't letting her leave his side.

"Oh, my God. Thank you," Kerry said. Thankful she was going to be okay in time.

Callie nodded and smiled. "Yep, C.T. looks clear. No damage to your spine."

Bella smiled. "Which means I can go?" She asked as she looked between her and Mark.

Mark shook his head. "It means you should observe her."

Bella groaned. Knowing how Mark and his protectiveness was starting to get to her. She knew she didn't want him fussing over her just because she was pregnant.

****

Bella was now with Bailey in Warren's room. "Warren, you have a perforation ... a hole ... somewhere in your bowel. We're gonna have to take you up to surgery," Bailey told him.

Warren nodded and sighed. "Tell Kerry I'm sorry. Tell her I'm sorry I hit her with lightning."

Bailey shook her head and smiled. "Hey, don't you worry."

"No, she's just the sweetest, funniest ... she's just ... just please make sure she's okay."

Bailey nodded. "Okay. We will. We're gonna take care of you now. All right, who do I have? Who's free?" She asked.

Alex raised his hand. "I'm free. I'm good. I'll go. He's my patient. I'll take him. Ow!" He said as Bailey touched the bullet in his chest.

Bailey shook her head. "Book an O.R. you can observe."

Bella smiled and looked to Bailey. "I'm fine, and I'm free."

Mark heavily shook his head behind her back. Bella turned to him. She frowned. "B... what are you doing?" She asked.

Mark shrugged. "Nothing."

Bailey looked over to Meredith. "Other Grey, are you free to scrub in?" She asked.

Meredith nodded and smiled. "Absolutely."

April came running over. "I ... I'm available, 'cause you haven't been cleared for surgery, right?" She asked as she looked to Meredith.

Meredith rolled her eyes. "April, if we're gonna be friends ... You have to stop doing that," she said.

April smiled. "Sorry. Habit."

Bella frowned. "I'm standing right here," she said as she rolled her eyes.

Bailey looked to April. "Kepner, go prep him."

"Okay."

"I'll see you up there."

Bella turned to look at Mark. She sighed. "Look. I know you want to protect me. And look out for me. But I'm pregnant. I'm fine. I had a blip. I broke down. I'm honestly really okay," she told him.

"Great. Then you can keep an eye on Kerry."

"Fine."

****

Bella looked up as Grace walked over to her. She smiled. "Hey. You okay?" She asked as she sat with her.

Bella shook her head. "No. Mark is treating me like I'm going to crack at any moment. I'm not. I know he's looking out for me and the baby. But it's driving me insane. I don't think I can do it. This is so hard. Everyone looks at me like I'm going to snap and scream at them. When I'm not. I'm just not in the mood for all of this anymore," she told her.

"Course you're crazy. You're my best friend and sister. You have to be crazy to be in with me," Grace said as she took her hand. "It's gonna be okay."

"You think?"

"Duh. Just think though. We're pregnant together. How weird?" Grace said.

Bella grinned. "It's gonna be fine. I hope."

****

Mark walked over to Derek and smirked. "Hey, how was your night in jail? You shank someone right off the b? You gotta let the other cons know not to mess with you," he said.

Derek rolled his eyes. "That's not funny. They almost charged me with reckless endangerment."

Webber overheard the conversation. "I'm sorry. What? You mean that's where you've been all morning, in jail for reckless endangerment?"

Derek rolled his eyes. "Nobody was endangered."

"I can't have this, Derek. I won't. Now...

Derek turned to him. "Have you ever been over 120 miles an hour before? Richard, have you ever been over 80? It's fun. It's really fun. I mean, especially when you go through a corner like that at that speed, and ... and you're not sure if the rear end's gonna stick or not, and you lose control, and then you put the throttle down, and the car corrects a little bit, and you take it to the limit and you don't lose control, you just grab it. Have you ever done it?" He said.

Webber shook his head. "Uh, uh, no, Derek, no."

Derek nodded. "You want to? I'll take you," he told him.

Mark smirked knowing he had done it too. "You should. It's ... really great. Let's go right now. Let's do it. Come on."

"I'd like that."

"Yeah? Right? Good. We're going."

Bella came running over. "Oh. You need to help me. I need your help. Hey!"

Derek frowned. "What?" He asked looking to his little sister. He had been worried about her too.

Bella shook her head. "Okay. She's paralyzed, and it's not gonna go away. She's not gonna get any better."

Mark looked to her. "Bella, hold on. You're all right," he told her. He was worried and knew she shouldn't have been cleared yet.

"No, n-not me. It's Kerry Schultz. She got hit outta nowhere, and it's not gonna get any better. I need you to listen to me," Bella said. Frustrated that no one would listen to her.

Derek sighed. "Look, this has nothing to do with that."

Bella shook her head. "She's ... no, just shut up and please listen to me. Make sure she's all right."

"I'm trying."

****

Bella was showing Kerry the videos of the lightning strike. "See? You went down before the lightning even struck," she said.

Kerry was in disbelief. "Oh, my God. Warren. I never even saw him coming. Is he okay?" She asked.

Bella nodded. "He's in surgery now."

Derek walked in and sighed. "Kerry, your new scan shows an epidural hematoma. It's blood in your spine that's compressing your spinal cord."

Bella frowned. "We didn't see that before?" She asked.

Derek sighed. He looked to Kerry. "Probably too small to see, and it's been bleeding for hours. It's an easy procedure to relieve the pressure," he told her.

Kerry nodded. "And I'll walk again?" She questioned.

Derek nodded and smiled. "You'll be out on the field in no time. Book an O.R. I'll see you in there," he said as he turned to Bella.

Bella's eyes widened. "F-for an actual surgery?"

Derek nodded. "Yes."

"Thank you," Bella said as she left with Derek.

Kerry turned to Mark. "Oh, so stupid. All this time ... I never told him. And I-I had all these reasons, you know? And ... they seemed like good reasons until we all almost died. I was worried about, what, about shaking up the team? It's flag football. We play once a week. God, I'm an idiot," she said.

Mark looked to Bella's retreating figure. He knew he was being overprotective. But he didn't want to risk anything happening to the baby. Or to Bella.

****

Derek smiled to Cassie through his mask. "The dura is pulsatile. Good catch, Dr. Shepherd."

Bella smiled. "Thank you, and, um, thank you for listening to me and for not being afraid of me," she said.

Derek looked to her. "Nobody's afraid of you. You went through a lot. But no one is afraid of you," he told her. He smiled. "You're also my sister. So I have to say nice stuff to you now and then."

Bella sighed. "Mark's keeping me chained to his service. He's keeping me out of surgeries," she mumbled.

"Because he's afraid for you. So he hovers. Other people might lock you in a cell overnight to be urinated on by a meth head. But it all comes from the same place," Derek said.

Bella grinned. "You got peed on? Is they why you stunk of pee?" She asked.

Derek nodded. "Yeah."

"Go Grace."

****

Callie found Grace with Mark. Mark looked to them both. "You're both wrong," he said.

Grace turned to her friend and shared a look with Callie. "Sorry?"

Mark sighed. "There's no time to wait. People get struck by lightning. People die. My best friend got shot, Torres. Why are you telling me to give it time when there's no guarantee that time is gonna be there? I'm ... not gonna wait around to be happy anymore," he told them.

"All right. Listen, this is something that you and I do. We skip steps. Okay, I pushed Arizona to have a baby, and I almost lost her because I skipped a bunch of steps. But then I went back, and now she's moving in ... And ruining my apartment. Look, I'm saying, proposing might be too much, especially if she's not herself right now."

Mark looked to them both. He sighed. "I know who she is. And if she's going through her worst right now, I wanna go through it with her. She makes me happier than ... Anything I've ever known. And if I can have a part in ... in making her happy again, that's all I want to do. That's all I want to do for the rest of my life," he said.

Grace smiled. She knew how much Mark cared about her best friend. She nodded. "All right. All right. Go. Go. Tell her that. But just like that," she told her brother.

****

Derek found Grace who was avoiding him. He sighed. "Gracie. You're ignoring me. And avoiding me. Why?" He asked.

"You know why."

"Don't worry about it. I'm fine," Derek said.

Grace turned to him. She shook her head. "Don't worry about it? All I do is worry all the time. I spend every minute of every day worrying that I'm gonna get a phone call that you've wrapped your car around a pole. That's why I left you jail, so that just for a little while, I would know that you weren't dying like you were dying on that table. That's what I think about every time you pull out of the driveway," she said.

Derek pulled her close. "I'm right here. I'm okay. We're okay."

"I'm pregnant ... that day, I found out. And I wanted to tell you that night. But you got shot. And I kept it to myself because you're driving too fast. And you could die again," Grace sobbed.

"You didn't say anything. I could have helped you," Derek said.

"If you want to help me, your driving is something you can control. Just do that. Just do that. Okay? So that our baby isn't left without a dad. Like I was. So please, do that for me and for them. Control your driving," she said.

"Okay."

****

Mark walked over to Bella. "Bella

Bella turned to him and sighed. "Did I forget to clean something?" She asked.

Mark shook his head. "No. I just need to talk to you."

"No ... you don't, though. You just want to keep me close. I'm pregnant. And I know that you want to be here, but you don't have to. I went through a rough patch, and you helped me, and I appreciate that. But I am moving out of it, and you won't let me. You know, you're treating me like I am a basket case. And ... and ... and everyone is watching you, and they're believing you. I had a good day today. I saved a girl today. I did that. I am a good doctor, and I don't deserve for people to think that I am anything less than that. So could you please just stop treating me like I'm going to blow at any time. I love you and I'm excited for us to have this baby. But can you just stop acting like this. Please?" She said.

Mark had no idea how he had been acting with Bella. And he felt bad. He took her hand and pulled her close. "I'm sorry. Okay?"

Bella nodded. "I know you're worried about the baby. But I'm fine. The baby is fine too. We're both okay. We just need to take it one day at a time," she told him.

"I'm worried. I know that. We almost had a baby before. But you lost it," Mark said.

Bella placed a hand on his cheek. "It's going to be fine. Next week I have an appointment. We can hear the baby's heartbeat. And you can relax," she told him.

Mark nodded. He kissed her lips and smiled. "I love you."

"Love you too. Now stop stressing. It's gonna be fine."

****

Derek looked up as Bella walked into the house. She smiled a little. "Hi jailbird. How are you?" She asked.

"Isabella. What can I do for you?" Derek asked his sister.

Bella smiled. Mark was asleep in bed so Bella had come to tell her brother she was pregnant. She took out a copy of the ultrasound and handed it to him.

Derek frowned. "What's this?"

"This is your niece or nephew. I'm pregnant," Bella said as she smiled. She saw the look on his face. "Mark's before you ask."

Derek nodded. He pulled his sister close and held her. Hoping that things were going to be okay.
