ONLY 4 OUT OF 10 STUDENTS NOW IN FAVOR OF OUSTING USC PRES
by Spencer Osorio

THE STUDENT body is now divided over the possible impeachment of University Student Council (USC) President Priam Torres, according to The Herald's survey.

A recent poll reveals that only 4 out of 10 students support ousting the incumbent USC president. In contrast, 5 are now willing to retain him, while only 1 has no opinion about the matter.

Majority of the respondents cited the developments in the third hearing where USC Vice President Valeria Encarnacion took responsibility for coercing Chevy Serrano, the former chairperson of the College of Computer Studies' student council, into voting in favor of the Freedom of Information motion. This was in exchange for not exposing his involvement in the defamation campaign against Theater lead actress Fabienne Lucero.

"All we want is to hold someone accountable," said a student who spoke under the condition of anonymity. "The fact that the VP claimed responsibility and even resigned was enough for us. In a way, we believe what Fabienne [Lucero] said, that Priam [Torres] wouldn't have allowed such a move."

On the other hand, respondents who support the ousting said that Torres must still be held liable as the head of the student council, whether or not he was fully aware of his subordinates' actions. They even demanded the president's resignation.

"I feel like they used the VP as a scapegoat," said another student who also spoke under the condition of anonymity. "We can't let the president get away without him being held accountable."

Since the start of the impeachment rumors, Torres' approval rating has taken a hit, dropping from almost fifty percent to the mid-thirties.

The poll was conducted after the third hearing and the shocking resignation of Encarnacion. The USC is yet to issue an official statement.
