My mother once said before she passed that love is a precious gift that you must protect at all costs.
That it's worth fighting for and when you find that person, the one that makes your heart soar, that makes the world seem brighter, keep them and never let them go.
If only I listened and tried harder then maybe I wouldn't be waking up every morning with my heart breaking and in pain, then maybe I wouldn't be trying to love someone my heart doesn't want because I know the woman I love, probably doesn't feel the same way about me.
(Nick's Pov)
The sound of people walking from one place to another surrounded me, conversing with friends, employees having a business lunch with their CEO and some were couples spending time with their significant others enjoying a pastry with their coffee.
With traffic as background noise.
I was leaning against my car waiting for Hank to exit the coffee shop with his usual caramel latte and donut with sprinkles when I heard something familiar.
Dog tags and the clanking of a bracelet, along with the soft thud of boots and paws meeting concrete in a steady rhythm.
Giving the pair an air of confidence.
'It can't be them.
Can it'?
My heart began rapidly beating as I stood up straight.
Looking at the area all around me, looking for the owners of the sounds and steps.
Trying to pick the face of the bravest woman I ever met and her sweet canine friend from the sea of people surrounding the street lined with popular store fronts.
'Come on, come on where are you'?
I was so busy looking for someone that probably wasn't even here, that I didn't notice Hank coming up beside me.
He said, his voice telling me he was smiling.
"Who you looking for Nick"?
I jumped, letting out a startled gasp.
Hank was laughing his butt off as I calmed down.
I then said, lightly annoyed.
"Don't do that Hank".
Hank was still laughing as he spoke.
"I'm sorry Nick, I couldn't resist.
I haven't been able to get the drop on you for two years.
(He calmed down and asked.)
So who were you looking for like a headless Chicken with his head cut off"?
I looked around me once more and I said, disappointed when the sounds I've been listening to stopped, the owners of those sounds were nowhere to be found in the sea of people.
"A person and a canine I haven't seen in four years".
Hank smiled and said teasingly.
"Is this someone a certain classmate from your days at the Police Academy"?
I didn't answer him and I said changing the subject.
"What toke you so long in there anyway?
(Hank handed me the coffee he got me, as I joked.)
You've been inside for over an hour".
Hank then smiled and said happily.
"Nothing, just met the most amazing woman I have ever seen in my whole life".
I smiled and now it was my turn to tease.
"So that's what kept you, future misses Griffin number Five".
Hank waved his finger at me as he smiled, speaking in a tone that's in-between friendly and teasing.
"You judge now, you won't be saying that when you meet the future misses Burkhart if it isn't Juliette.
(The sound of Juliette's name made my heart calm down, not speed up like it used to when her name was mentioned.
Hank taped the car roof of the car and then pointed to someone.)
That could even be her right now".
I shook my head and turned to look at who he was pointing at when my heart stopped for a minute, before restarting with a vengeance.
Everything around me stood still and the only person that was moving was her.
'Y/n'.
It was like she was moving in slow motion, like all those moments in movies where the guy falls in love with the female lead, taking note of everything about her.

The sun made Y/n's copper hair shine a golden orange, bringing out the natural highlights.
She wasn't wearing make up beside the light pink lip gloss, but she was still the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.
The red jacket she was wearing was her favorite, it made Y/n's pale skin pale as a porcelain doll and made her Blue/green eyes pop.
The outfit she was wearing complemented her looks and personality.
Making me fall for her harder than I fell when I first saw her.
I then looked down to see the familiar giant canine standing beside her, who she had since he was a pup.
I smiled lightly, recognizing the big lug of a dog.
'She never goes anywhere without Dimitri'.
Hank made a wincing noise when he saw the dog, and he said, not noticing my my look.
"Holy smokes that's one big ass dog,
(He then teased looking at me, seeing my expression.)
Maybe that's not the future Misses Burkhart, that dog won't let you go near her".
'You be surprised'.
I thought with a smile and I said turning to Hank.
"That's Y/n's canine partner Dimitri".
Hank looked at me shocked, his eye balls bugging out of his head and he said as he pointed at Y/n.
"That's Y/n?
(I nodded.)
The classmate Y/n you won't shut up about Y/n"?
I nodded and said smiling.
"That's her".
I then walked away from the car, I intended to walk straight to her but she and a female companion walked to her car.
She handed Y/n a pinkish smoothie with a hint of purple and a brown paper bag.
They passed by a blond wearing an Armani suit that screamed lawyer when I stopped. Waiting for her to pass through when she looked at me.
Smiling as I watch her face change.
It made me freeze in confusion.
'What the'?
Her face looked hollowed out in the cheek, strips of skin attacking her cheek bones to her jaw line.
Her skin is gray and purple, her hair pale white as snow and her jaw expand like Hemotep in the Mummy when she opened her mouth, her teeth rotten.
She returned to normal and she looked at me scared and walked away.
I shook my head and rubbed my eyes and looked back to where I last saw Y/n and Dimitri and the third member of their group.
Y/n opened the back seat for Dimitri and he jumped in.
Y/n then went in the driver side and got in as their friend got in the passenger side.
I remained where I was as I watched Y/n drive away.
My heart was tugged by an invisible force, pleading me to follow her.
It broke when I didn't, instead I walked back to my car where Hank was waiting.
Hank then said reassuringly as he patted the roof of my car.
"Cheer up man, you'll catch sight of her again.
Now,
(He moved to the passenger side of my car.)
We got to go, Sean said we caught a case,
(I started the engine and Hank added.)
He also says the new detectives will meet us at the crime scene, one of them apparently wants to get to work".
I then said as I got in the driver set.
"You know what they say, crime never sleeps.
The best way to prevent future criminal activity-".
Hank then said along side with me.
"Is to catch the suspect before they strike again I know".
I then said.
"Nothing like a fresh case to start the day".
Y/n's pov) * A few hours Earlier *
I was jostled awake, my head slipping forward.
When I felt I was going to fall forward, the feeling of dread, fear and the sense of darkness swallowed me as I instantly opened my eyes.
I immediately slammed my back into the chair and held the arm rests in a death grip as my eyes remained widened like a dear in head lights as I exclaimed slightly loud.
"Fudge Sickles"!
I heard Aria laughing beside me and I looked at her, still tensed up.
She then said lightly snickering at my panicked face.
"Morning sun shine. You sleep okay"?
I then said softly, my eyes darting around me, my heart pounding in my chest from the sudden rush of adrenaline, the feelings of fear and dread were fading along with the sense of darkness receding to the back of my mind.
"I'm never falling asleep on a plane again".
Dimitri groaned below us and I looked to see that he looked a little green around the gillz.
I then said relaxing a little, forcing myself to ignore my senses as I focused on my overgrown puppy
"I'm so sorry Dimitri, I'll make it up to you when we land I promise".
He groaned and whined, poor baby never handled plan rides well, even when he was little.
'My poor Baby'.
Once my body realized the danger wasn't on the plane with me and that I wasn't going to fall off the chair while semi unconscious, I reached down and scratched Dimitri behind the ears as I said to him, looking around me to see some of the other passengers in coach that were still asleep or were already awake before I was
"I'll get you pup cups for a month".
Aria then said as I leaned back into my chair.
"Speaking of pup cups,
(Aria pulled a tourist map of Portland she got from the gift shop in one of LA's airports and held it out in front of us both.)
Six Beans is still their, only now it next to a Jewelry store that I've been dying to check out".
I then said lightly smiling.
"You sure it's the store you want to check out or the Jaguar necklace that you saw in the catalogue you were browsing last week"?
She stuck her tongue out at me and said pulling out said catalogue.
"I mean come on look at it,
(I did and I nodded, to be honest I was kind of thinking of getting it to.)
It's in my favorite color purple, and it brings out my,
(She whispered the last part in my ear, quickly Volgaing to reveal her Balam Face, a human jaguar like face with a peace center over her nose lead up to her forehead and blending into the vivid violet fur, that leaned more to the blue color family, that surrounded her face and down her neck.
Black spots of all shapes in a unique pattern can be spotted all over her face and her hands, but they were faded on the column of her throat and the inside of her palms.
Her eyes were vivid green.
The kind where when you look at them, you think of the jungles of Amazon.
She volga'ed back to reveal a face that makes you doubt what you saw hidden beneath her disarming human features.
Her vivid green eyes were now dull, but a beautiful shade of Dark Green.)

I smiled and I said whispering.
"It also complements your violet fur".
She looks back at the catalogue and says smiling softly.
"You think so"?
I nodded and I said.
"We'll stop by the store,
(I then added as I looked at her.)
After checking in with Captain Sean at the station.
(I then layed my head against the head of the rest of the plane's coach passenger seat.)
Just to see when we need to report in for work".
Aria put the catalogue and map away, her face suddenly turned worried as she said softly.
"You weren't panicked because you almost fell out of your seat semi asleep,
(She then whispered to me, concerned, watching my face carefully.)
Your senses are telling you something wicked is on the horizon".
I nodded and I whispered to her while shrugging my shoulders.
"It could be that they're just acting up because Portland is one of the places heavily populated by all kinds of Wessen like LA.
(I then said opening my eyes.)
But there's something different,
(I shook my head and said.)
Something wicked this way comes indeed".
Dimitri looked up and then sat up, placing his head and right paw on my lap.
I immediately felt a sense of peace and could truly relax.
Dimitri always knew when I needed comfort from the shadows of the world we live in, ever since he was a little puppy.
It's why the sense of dread was the feeling that persisted to be at the forefront of my mind along with worry for Dimitri.
If something happened to him because he was protecting me from the evils that lurked in the Wessen world, I would never forgive myself.
He's not just my partner, he's my best friend.
Well, my canine best friend.
Aria took hold of my hand as she said .
"Y/n look at me,
(I did and she said )
I won't let anything happen to you,
(She looked at Dimitri.)
Either of you.
(She then looked back at me and Said.)
I'm not just your guys partner, I'm your best friend,
(She then corrected herself as Dimitri lifted his head and looked in her direction.)
Wessen friend, you'll always be her canine best friend Dimitri.
(He hummed and layed his head back on my lap.
Aria looked back at me and patted my hand.)
I promise okay".
I nodded and I said, looking out the window.
The sky was lightened up but the sun revealed that the sky was cloudy and it was raining.
"Looks like we're going to get our coats on.
(I then looked at my clothes and grimaced at the smell.)
And change outfits, I ran in this outfit and it's ripe".
Aria then said waving her hand.
"You go first, I'll get Dimitri in his coat".
I then said smiling as I stood up, grabbing my go bag that had a change of clothes, deodorant, and Dimitri's customized rain coat.
"You're a life saver".
I pulled out Dimitri's rain coat and handed it to her.
Then went to the bathroom, on the way I bumped into someone and nearly fell over.
I was going to call him out when the sudden sense of darkness and dread overwhelmed me again.
I turned back to see who it was, but all I got was the back of the guy's head and I looked at his bag.
I could sense the dark energy coming off like a furnace.
Aria looked up and I signed with my hands.
'Tell me what he looks like when I get back, that sense of darkness, it's coming from him'.
Aria quickly nods and looks down.
The guy kept his gaze ahead so he didn't see her response, thank goodness.
I walked calmly and slowly into the bathroom and changed.
Doing my hair in my regular multiple ball pony tail, and applying my deodorant.
Then I found my bracelet and clasped it to my wrist, a simple gold chain with an all-see eye.
A pulse of blue mist appeared with the bracelet that came in contact with my skin.
Immediately feeling a little bit safer as I exited the bathroom.
I went to my seat and Aria whispered looking back at a curtained entrance leading to other coach passengers.
Dimitri stayed close to me, lowered to the floor, eyes on the curtains.
"That wasn't just any Wessen you saw.
That was a reaper,
(She almost sounded scared when she looked away.)
I only heard stories about them".
I then said, eyes trained on the curtains, taking a deep breath.
"If he's heading to Portland, it's safe to say it's not to check out the water falls and springs".
Dimitri growled and I pet him on the head, and he stopped.
Aria then said, relieved when she saw I still had my ring on my right pointer finger and now my bracelet.
"Thank God, you are still wearing your ring".
I nodded and I said softly, my eyes still on the curtains separating the other coach passengers.
"We need to keep an eye on him,
(I put my go bag on my lap, holding my old clothes and something that I always bring with me in case we needed to track someone in danger, or find a suspect.)
I think we're going to have an errand to run before heading to the station".
Aria then said looking back.
"Yeah, we do".
Dimitri barked softly in agreement and then the captain of the planes voice spoke when the seat belt lights lit up.
"Good morning everyone this is your captain speaking.
(Everyone began putting their seat belts on.
I buckled in and wrapped my arms around Dimitri, he began whimpering, already sensing the plane's descent as he put his upper half on my lap, making it easier to bring him closer to me.)
We're preparing to make our final descent into Portland Oregon.
So please return to your seats and buckle in, we are experiencing a little turbulence from the rain storm so sit back and thank you for choosing to fly LA air".
(Time skip)
After the plan landed at 2:30 am, Aria, Dimitri and I drove to a spice and tea shop where I needed one ingredient to perform the tracking spell.
Aria and I parked across from the store, we saw a guy, most likely the owner, walk towards the establishment.
She volga'ed and took a deep breath, closing her eyes as I watched the shop keeper go in, saying softly as I saw his Wessen face when he looked out the shop window.
Lucky we were huddled down our seats and Dimitri layed low in the back.
"He's a Fuchsbau".
'I won't be able to go in, I can't Volga, he'll tell all the Wessen community that a Haven'ier has come to Portland'.
Aria volga'ed back and said to me.
"You want me to go in"?
I dug through my bag and looked at the baggy containing the ingredient I needed for my tracking spell.
Barley one finger width remained of the yarrow flower, it won't be enough, not for it to work right away anyway.
I layed my head against the head rest and I said.
"Only if you want to, but I have a feeling he reads the paper".
Aria then said, her thinking face on as she looked at me.
"Doesn't your new house have Yarrow flowers going in the back yard?
Trunks of ingredients and books passed down by your ancestors packed into boxes and loaded on the moving truck"?
I smiled and I said looking at her.
"I completely forgot".
Aria smiled as she rolled her eyes and I started the car again.
I drove to my new house and I said to Aria.
"Let's get to work".
(Time skip) * Two Hours Later *
Aria said as I grinded the yarrow flowers I picked from my new backyard, then poured in the other ingredients.
"How long do you think it would take for the spell to track the Reaper"?
I looked at the book one of my ancestors left for later generations of Haven'iers to use when protecting innocent Wessen, and hunting the bad ones.
I then said when I reread the journal entry made by Briar Roads.
"I don't know, if it were a normal Wessen, then it would be instantaneous.
Biar Roads doesn't say anything about how long it would take,
(I then poured the contents of the grounding bowl onto the crystal balltheb putting the shirt I was wearing when I bumped into the Reaper beside the crystal ball.)
To track a reaper".
We watched as the ground powder swirled around the crystal ball instead of falling onto the table.
Aria then said, one eye on me as we watched the crystal ball change colors.
"Your ancestors of Haven'iers and Grimms alike found security measures to help keep later generations safe from Reapers, Royals and evil Wessen in order to stay below their radar yet not one of them created a spell specific for tracking reapers ".
I then said as I looked at Aria, stating what the time was like for my parents.
"My guess is none of them crossed paths with one on a plane before me".
Aria nods as she added.
"True, but still would be nice to have that in our evil Wessen hunting arsenal".
I then said, staring intently at the crystal ball, my ears listening to all the noise going on around us.
Just in case someone comes over to say hi and I can fide the crystal ball.
"Agreed, I think my ancestors saw no need to go looking for trouble when they found ways to hide.
The crusades and years after that were a bit dangerous for them to even leave the house".
Aria then asked.
"Did your mother tell you what happened back then that made Haven'iers go into hiding"?
I then said softly.
"All she can say was that the royals tortured one of my ancestors soulmates and he was forced to give up everything.
Trying to find what they hidden".
Aria then said as she looked at me.
"Is that why you won't take Nick's calls since your grandmother died"?
I then said softly, my eyes intent on the glass ball, my voice low.
"It's the only way he can be safe".
I looked at her and she didn't press the matter.
That's when there was a nock on my door.
I jumped from where I sat on the floor and Aria grabbed the table cloth to cover the crystal ball as she said, looking spooked .
"Who's up at five in the morning"?
I looked at the clock and corrected her as I stood up, Dimitri came down the hall, growling at the door.
"It's actually 6".
I went to the door and I looked through the peep hole to see a woman with red hair and green eyes.
I couldn't see anything hidden underneath her human face so I relaxed.
I looked to Aria to see she volga'ed to protect me.
I then said softly.
"She's human, not Wessen.
(Aria volga'ed back and she held Dimitri's police vest as I opened the door smiling at the stranger and I said normally.)
Hi, can I help you with anything miss-"?
She held her hand out and said smiling.
"Juliette Silverton, but please call me Juliette.
I just saw you pull up and thought.
(She picked up a welcome basket full of fruit, a giant Lilly pop, a few pieces of bread, a mug and a giant dog bone and canine medicine.)
Why not welcome you to the neighborhood".
I smiled and I said take careful hold of it.
"Oh thank you Juliette.
(I held my hand to her and I said.)
I'm Y/n Havemann,
(I moved out of the way and said.)
Why don't you come in, I was just going to brew coffee.
(I walked past the boxes in my living room and headed to the kitchen.
Setting the box down on the counter.
I then said, seeing she stayed still in front of Dimitri and Aria.
"Juliette, meet my canine partner Dimitri and my other partner Detective Aria Milton.
(I turned on the coffee machine, put the grounds in the paper cup and filled the pot with hot water.
Pouring it in the open space compartment behind where the paper cups go before putting in the coffee grounds.)
We just transferred to Portland PD from LA".
Juliette then said, smiling as she looked at me.
"I saw the canine vest, my boyfriend's a cop, he would be here to welcome you to the neighborhood as well but he went out earlier to grab coffee and donuts before heading to the station.
(She held her hand out to Dimitri and he stepped towards her and she said softly.)
Hi buddy".
He sniffed her and his tail waged, and licked her palm.
Aria then said looking at me.
"He sounds a lot like you".
I then said pointing.
"You know what they say, crime never sleeps.
The best way to prevent future criminal activity is to catch the suspect before they strike again". The coffee was done and I walked back to them with three coffee mugs, two in my right hand, one in my left.
Juliette held her hand out to Aria as she said.
"Nice to meet you".
Aria shook Juliette's hand and said.
"You too Juliette ".
I held a cup of coffee to Juliette and I Said.
"I'm sorry that I don't have any creamer yet, but it's a French roast".
Juliette hummed and said looking at all the boxes that littered almost every surface of my new house.
"Wow, it looks like you have a lot of unpacking to do".
I nodded and I said.
"Yeah, I collect a lot of stuff".
Aria then said to Juliette, teasing as she looked at me.
"You should see her Funko Pop and pony corn collection.
It's ridiculous".
I then said pointing smiling, stating what we do casually but secretly, it was like we were on an inside joke Juliet doesn't know about yet.
"I have my own way to decompress as you do".
Juliet then said smiling.
"Maybe after you guys settle in we can hang out".
I nodded and Aria said.
"Yeah I'm down".
I looked at the clock and said, finishing my coffee, setting the mug on top of the box.
"It might be after work today, the precinct should be open".
Juliette finished the coffee and said as we all walked out the door, Dimitri waited beside me as I locked up behind us.
"Oh by the way I'm a vet, if Dimitri has any medical issues or eats something he shouldn't come straight to me.
Great danes are my specialty".
I smiled and said scratching Dimitri's head.
"I might take you up on it,
(I then said.)
And he's part German Shepard, not just a great Dane.
(I lightly brushed his furry ears that stood up straight.)
It's why his ears are furry and straight".
Juliette then said smiling.
"How long have you had him"?
I smiled and said.
"He's turning four this year, I had him since he was a pup".
Juliette then said petting Dimitri on the head.
"Well happy early birthday,
(She walked to her house and said waving.)
See you guys Later ".
Me and Aria waved back, Dimitri raised his paw repeatedly.
We watched as Juliette drove away and Aria said smiling.
"I like her".
I nodded and said.
"Me too,
(I looked back at my house and I said.)
After we check in to see when we need to report in.
We need to come back to check the crystal ball".
Aria nods as she says.
"I know".
We went to my car and drove to the precinct and we walked in, cops in uniforms looked at us shocked, giving us a wide berth as we walked into the bull pen outside of Sean Renard's office.
A uniform came to us and he said smiling.
"Hello there I'm officer Drew Wu.
Can I help you lady's"?
I pulled out my new badge and said.
"I'm Detective Y/n Havemann,
(I patted Dimitri on the head.)
This is my canine partner Dimitri,
(I then pointed to Aria, who had her new badge out while putting my badge away.)
And this is detective Aria Milton, my other partner".
Henry then said smiling.
"Ah yes, Detective Havemann I heard about you from my friends in the LA PD,
(He looked at Dimitri and I saw his eyes widen a bit.)
You and your partners are legends around here".
I then said lightly smiling.
"We're just all doing our part to make the world safer".
I then said seeing Drew was still staring at Dimitri.
"You can pet him, he likes meeting new people when not pursuing suspects".
Drew smiled and scratched Dimitri behind his ears and said to me.
"He's a big dog".
I nodded and I said.
"You be surprised that he was the tiniest puppy of the litter.
(I looked at the office and I saw Captain Sean at his desk looking over paper work.)
Is Captain Sean Renard available?
I like to speak with him".
Drew nodded and said, gesturing us to follow him.
"Yeah he's been expecting you".
Aria then asked Henry as she spotted someone holding a donut.
"Where's the break room"?
Drew then gave her directions as we walked.
"Down the hall to your right.
(He knocked on the office door and he said.)
If you want to have a donut, we're sadly out, try the Six Bean Cafe a few blocks away, they have the best".
I nodded at him and said.
"Thank you officer Drew".
He then said.
"Oh please call me Wu, everyone does".
He knocked again and Sean called out after looking up.
"Come in".
Wu opened the door and I said walking in with Dimitri beside me.
"Captain Sean, my name is Y/n Havemann,
(I patted Dimitri.)
My canine partner Dimitri and,
(I patted Aria on the shoulder.)
Our partner Aria Milton.
We're ready to report for duty sir".
Sean smiled and stood up from the desk and said.
"Tina wasn't kidding when she said you're all work and no play Detective Havemann".
He held his hand out and we shook hands.
I felt something odd dread up in my stomach when his skin met mine.
But I schooled my features to keep them from changing, keeping the friendly smile on my face.
He was definitely a Wessen, but something was different, something that screamed 'Stay under his radar'.
Something I'll need to look into later.
I then said.
"Just doing my duty in protecting the citizens of LA and now Portland Captain".
Sean nodded and said.
"Please, call me Sean.
(He shook hands with Aria and after they pulled back he sat down turning to me.)
I was reading over your police file, Detective .
You, Dimitri and Detective Milton have the highest closer rate in LA.
All three of you used to live in Portland before being stationed in LA".
I nodded and said.
"Yes sir that's correct".
Sean then said, eyes focused on mine.
"Is Portland as you remember detective"?
I had my thinking face on as I looked away, keeping my eyes under control.
"A little Rainier but all in all,
(I looked into his eyes and I felt my powers fighting to identify what he is, it made me clench my hand behind my back to keep my gifts at bay.)
It's still the same".
Sean then said nodding.
"Well, you, Dimitri and Detective Milton can start work next week.
Get you settled in first".
I then said smiling.
"I'm sure that captain Tina told you that I like to start work straight away, crime never sleeps sir".
Sean then said nodding.
"Yes she did, right now we don't currently have any active cases.
But I'll call you in when we do,
(He smiled and leaned back.)
But right now, relax, enjoy the day and see some sights.
Portland has changed a little bit since you moved three years ago".
I nodded and said.
"Of course Sean, understood".
Me, Aria and Dimitri left the office and walked out of the station, waved bye to Wu when we saw him.
Aria then said, once we were outside the station.
"Okay what happened?
(I looked at her and she said.)
I saw you clench your hand behind your back, were your powers acting up again"?
I nodded and I said.
"Captain Sean is a Wessen, but something is different about him, something I can't place my finger on.
So I had to fight my identity and judge powers so my secret isn't exposed".
Aria nodded and said looking at me.
"He kept his gaze on your eyes so that means he suspects you aren't a normal Kehrseite".
Then I said as we walked to my car.
"Then we got to make him think so, until we know what he is, me being a Haven'ier stays between us".
Aria nodded as she got in the passenger side and I opened the back for Dimitri to get in.
Then heading to the driver side and got in.
Heading to the cafe, the Six Bean.
A place I used to go to after or between class when I was training to be a cop.
Thankfully that it hasn't changed, but I would have missed it if Aria was giving me directions from the tourist map.
Two new stores on either side of the building almost blocked it from view.
Aria then said exiting, looking back in to see I wasn't moving.
"You coming in"?
I shook my head and said as I looked back at Dimitri.
"No, I got a promise to hold up".
Aria smiled, knowing the Six Beans staff would kick Dimitri out because his giant size would most likely scare the customers.
She then said patting the roof.
"Okay, you want your usual pomegranate smoothie and slice of Lemon Cake"?
I nodded and I said, handing her the money to pay for my order so she didn't have to use her money, along with extra cash.
"And maybe something for Dimitri as well,
(Dimitri's tail began waging as I said )
Can you see if they still have those giant foot long peanut butter cookies he loves"?
Aria nodded and said, reaching back to pet Dimitri.
"Of course, I can't forget the giant foot long peanut butter cookies.
(She then closed the door and said, moving a little bit back she didn't get nudged while I pulled out.)
You two have fun".
I waved and drove away and I said, looking at Dimitri in the back through the rear view mirror.
"So after your pup cup, where do we go afterwards "?
He barked in a pattern and I nodded, not needing to speak doggy tongue to know his choice of where where going next.
I then said as I waited at a red light, spotting the pet store where I adopted him and got his stuff when he was a puppy a few kilometers down the street, across from it was Starbucks.
"I was thinking the exact same thing".
(Aria's Pov)
I was waiting at a table for my order to be done when I heard the door open.
I was just looking up to see who was coming in when my heart began beating like a jungle cat in the hunt for wild boar.
'No it can't be'.
But it was, he was my soulmate.
I looked away, pretending to be focused on my phone when he turned to look at who was staring at him
I caught a glimpse of his badge and gun before my eyes were glued to my phone screen.
'Don't look at him, don't look at him'.
My name was called by the barista.
"Aria Milton".
I looked up and I went straight to pick up my order, I was so focused on making sure my eyes didn't wander to the man that I ended up bumping into him.
Spilling the drink he was holding.
I then said looking at him, and to the floor where a puddle of water formed.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry,
(I then said looking at him, then the floor and back at him.)
I'm so clumsy sometimes, I'll pay you back ".
He then said, smiling speaking calmly as he held his hand up.
"It's my bad, don't worry about it.
(He held his hand out to me and said.)
I'm Hank, Hank Griffin".
I then said smiling, shaking his hand.
"Aria, Aria Milton".
My phone beeped and I pulled my hand out of his grip dispute wanting to have his hand around mine a little longer.
I saw the text Y/n sent me and mentally groaned.
Y/n🐕🦺: 'Sean called us in, were on our way to pick you up'.
I texted a quick okay and I said to Hank.
"Well it's nice to meet you Hank,
But I got to go,
(I quickly walked away, waving him goodbye as I exited.)
Have a nice day".
I didn't need to use my Balam hearing and sight to pick Y/n and Dimitri out of the crowd.
Since Dimitri was a giant, and wearing his police vest, people gave him a wide berth along with Y/n.
But since they were trying to not get near the dangerous looking dog who's actually the sweetest giant I know, I was blocked and surrounded.
Making it that much harder to get to them.
When I did, I said as I handed her the brown paper bag holding her lemon cake and handing her her pomegranate smoothie.
"What's the situation"?
(Y/n's pov)
When I approached Aria, I felt eyes on me, not the kind that burns holes into your school.
The kind where you feel someone you know spots you from a distance.
I answered Aria as we walked to my car.
"We got a body.
(I showed her the picture Sean sent.
Body parts with different degrees of mauling.)
Captain Sean wants us to go to the trail and be briefed by park security".
Aria then said, whispering to me as we passed a blond wearing an Armani suit that fit her perfectly while screaming 'I'm a lawyer, don't mess with me'.
"You think it's a Wessen"?
I nodded, my eyes on the blond when I saw her face change.
'Oh great, she's a hexian beast, perfect'.
I then said, voice love enough for only Aria to hear me.
"Isn't it always,
(I then stated, while looking at her.)
Present company excluded.
(Aria nodded and smiled.)
we have to check it out".
We got to my car and I opened the back seat and said to Dimitri.
"Innen.
(I then said the rest in English as I closed the door.)
I have a bad feeling this case is going to be a Grimm one".
I got in my driver seat, buckled in while Aria was doing so as I drove off.
I rubbed my neck and Aria said as I looked at the road, well what little I can get since Dimitri was sitting up blocking most of the road fading behind us in the rear view mirror.
"Hey you okay"?
I nodded and said, putting my hand back on the wheel.
"Yeah, I'm fine.
It's nothing, just felt someone's eyes on me that's all".
Aria said smiling.
"You are smoking hot y/n, you don't think that men won't stare".
I rolled my eyes and I mumbled.
"I wish they didn't, I feel like I'm being sized up".
Aria then nodded and said.
"Yeah I know men can be pigs sometimes".
I then said, remembering when I met Nick.
How he looked at me.
"Not all of them,
(I then smiled as I looked at Aria.)
Unless they're Bower Swine,
(I turned my eyes back into the road.)
then they're definitely pigs".
Aria laughed, as I drove my way to the hiking trail that is a few feet away from Portland University.
I then parked at the university, Aria was outside the car and said.
"I'll let park security know where here".
I nodded and then I opened the back door and looked at Dimitri and I said softly as I pet him.
"We might have a Wessen killer responsible for the body you're going to scent okay?
(He lightly groaned and I said petting him.)
I know I don't like it either,
(I then looked to the trail entrance a couple feet away.)
Some of the park security guards might Be Wessen okay, so behave".
He stood up and nodded, I got the leash and attached it to the best and I said.
"Let's catch this Wessen before he or she kills anyone else".
He growled as we jogged to the trail, the Park Security Ranger was waiting with Aria.
I then asked Aria.
"What we got"?
Aria said as we walked down the trail.
"A hiker flagged down Mister Hanson here saying he found something horrible".
Mister Hanson then Said.
"I had no idea what he was talking about,
(We stopped in front of a torn up arm and a bush holding a torn piece of pink fabric.)
Till I saw this".
I recognized the marks on the torn arm.
'Definitely Blutbaden'.
Mister Hanson then said, gestured to the area off the trail.
"The rest of her is off trail".
I nodded and I tugged Dimitri's leash and he followed me, Mister Hanson said as he followed me, Dimitri and Aria.
"Detective Milton said your Canine was big, I just never thought he would be ginormous".
I then said as we got closer to the cluster of body parts.
"That he is,
(I turned to hanson.)
and he can catch scents more than 8 miles off".
Hanson was called by another Park Security Ranger.
He then said.
"I don't doubt it, Detective Havemann.
(He then said.)
I'll be right back".
Aria then said looking at the body parts.
"Thinking what I'm thinking"?
I nodded and said.
"Yes, Blutbaden".
Then I heard my name being called by a familiar voice.
"Y/n,
(Me and Aria turned around with Dimitri whimpering excited to see the man that was around us for a year when I adopted him.)
Dimitri,
(He smiled as he got closer.)
What are you guys doing here"?
I then said smiling.
"Same as you Nick, working the crime scene.
(I gestured to the body parts surrounding me).
Trying to figure out what caused this poor girl's death".
When my eyes met Nicks again I felt my heart being tugged to him, and I felt the happiness overwhelm me that he's here in Portland.
But also great sadness when I knew I wasn't going to act on my feelings for him.
'This is going to be a long case'.
