Blade

I had never been one to give much thought to matters of the heart. As an ancient vampire, I'd walked this earth for centuries, my existence characterized by solitude and indifference to the affairs of the living. No one had ever managed to capture my attention, let alone stir any romantic inclinations within me. Yet, here I was, on the precipice of an unexpected encounter that would challenge my solitary nature.

We had departed from the room where Luna's family and the other slayers had gathered, seeking the solace of an adjacent chamber. The transition from a crowded space to this newfound seclusion was well needed.

In this dimly lit chamber, it was just Luna and me. Her presence was a puzzle I couldn't help but contemplate, the richness of her dark skin and the elegant afro that framed her face captivating in a way that defied my centuries of detachment.

Addressing the unspoken complexity of our situation, I broke the silence. "Luna," I began, my voice steady and deliberate, "you should be aware that while emotions may stir within you after I mark you, it's highly unlikely for me. I have centuries of experience in these matters."

Luna met my words with a scoff, her expressive eyes narrowing as she rolled them in a gesture that combined audacity and a subtle undercurrent of nervousness. "Whatever, Mr. Confident," she retorted, her posture revealing a hint of apprehension despite her attempt to appear undaunted.

My faint, enigmatic smile remained, a testament to my stoic composure honed over millennia.

"You think centuries make you immune to feelings?" Luna challenged, her voice laced with defiance.

I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow in response, her spirited banter both intriguing and irksome. "Not immune, Luna," I replied, my tone carrying a hint of amusement, "just highly resistant."

She huffed, the sound a mixture of annoyance and nervous energy. "Well, don't worry, ancient one," Luna shot back, "I don't plan on stealing your heart and I damn sure know you're not stealing mine."

Luna's determination was admirable, and it sparked a playful yet heated exchange between us. "You seem rather sure of yourself," I remarked, a subtle twinkle of amusement in my eyes.

Her lips curled into a wry smile, her confidence unwavering. "Well, Mr. Immune-to-Feelings," she teased, "I have a way of surprising people."

I chuckled softly, appreciating her spirited nature. I was shocked at how easily laughter escaped my lips. What the hell was going on with me?

"I don't doubt that," I admitted, my tone shifting to a more serious note. "But understand, Luna, that my hesitance isn't a matter of choice. It's a consequence of time and survival."

With an air of newfound confidence, Luna advanced a step. Her voice was resolute, almost commanding.

"Shut up, Blade. And let's begin," she declared.

A fiery rage ignited within me, my eyes blazing. Such insolence from anyone else would have provoked a swift and ruthless consequence. Yet, here I was, restraining myself, my fury simmering just below the surface.

In response, I deliberately encroached upon Luna's personal space, my presence looming and intimidating. The thought crossed my mind, how effortlessly I could snap her fragile human neck. But Luna was no ordinary human; she was the Night Huntress, reputed for her resilience.

My gaze fixated on her neck, torn between inflicting pain or pleasure in retaliation for her brazen words. After a moment's contemplation, I opted for the latter, choosing to unleash a toxin that would bring delight rather than distress.

As I drew nearer, the scent of her blood, laced with a hint of my brother, filled my senses. Her sweet, intoxicating aroma pulsed just beneath her smooth, brown skin.

Luna remained motionless, her fists clenched at her sides, as I finally sank my fangs into her neck. The rush of pleasure that ensued was unlike anything I had ever experienced. Overwhelmed by ecstasy, I delved deeper, utterly consumed by the sensation.

Luna's gasp, intermingled with a soft moan, signaled her surrender to the moment's intensity. Her hands, previously restrained, began to explore beneath my shirt, taking liberties that I rarely allowed.

"Fuck, Blade... I need you, completely," she breathed, her voice laced with desire, a product of the euphoria I had induced.

I continued to draw from her, savoring each drop of her intoxicating blood. My vampiric instincts surged through my body, urging me to claim her entirely. It was a deep seated ache, that I was fighting against.

The sensation of Luna's hands on my body sent electric shocks through me. Despite my ancient origins and the responsibility to restrain myself, I found myself in an internal struggle; warring with right and wrong. I wanted to consume her fully but I knew that wasn't the deal.

Yielding to the moment, I hoisted Luna into my arms. Her legs instinctively wrapped around my waist as she bit into my shoulder, her actions mirroring my primal vampiric instincts now coursing through her. In response, my hands instinctively grasped her ass and squeezed it roughly, causing Luna to moan unabashedly. It was an acknowledgment of our waning control.

Pulling away, I sought to regain some semblance of restraint. "You taste incredible, Luna," I muttered. "Is this some sort of spell?" I yearned for more, yet reminded myself this was meant to be only a partial bonding.

Still lost in pleasure, Luna's eyes remained closed as she spoke. "You little bastard, you can't just leave a girl wanting more," she chided with a sly smirk.

I gently set Luna down, distancing myself to regain control. The unique flavor of her blood haunted my senses, confusing me on why it was so much more intoxicating than expected; almost like it was meant solely for me.

"Remember my earlier warning about not falling for me? Seems like your feeble human emotions couldn't handle but to succumb to me." I teased, anticipating her irritation.

Luna's demeanor shifted like a wave of cold water, her hands on her hips, her expression scornful. "It was good, Blade, but don't overestimate yourself. I've known greater pleasures."

Her words, intended to provoke me, triggered a primal reaction within me. My fangs unsheathed, and my eyes darkened as I reached out, gripping her face. "Be careful, Luna. You're mine now," I hissed.

She brushed my hand away, standing her ground. "Jealous and possessive much?" she mocked, mimicking my tone.

The urge to demonstrate my claim was strong, but that path led to a full bonding, something I was determined to avoid. My emotions were in turmoil, but I knew I had to think clearly, beyond the confusion of our partial bond.

I bit my tongue, not wanting to get into a sparring match with this girl.

After the intense partial bonding, an uneasy tension hung between Luna and me. The air was charged with unspoken words and unresolved emotions.

Luna broke the silence first. Her voice was softer, almost reflective. "So, this is it? We're partially bonded now. What does that even mean for us?"

I exhaled slowly, feeling the weight of her question. "It means we're connected, more deeply than before. Our senses, emotions, strength, and perhaps even thoughts will be more intertwined."

Luna nodded, her gaze was distant. "And what about... us?" she ventured cautiously. "Does this bonding change anything between us personally?"

I looked at her, the enigmatic Night Huntress, now inextricably linked to me. "It changes nothing between us. We are both predators who are sworn enemies. Don't be fooled by this partial bond. Tomorrow we will head out. The quicker we figure out the prophecy, the sooner we can go our separate ways."

We exchanged few words for the rest of the night. Luna, worn out from the day's events, retired to rest, while I was compelled to leave the compound until dawn. Unlike most vampires who roam the night, age has brought upon me the need for rest. Our ancient lineage functions differently from the newer generation of vampires. Settling into my truck, I succumbed to a fitful slumber.

As dawn approached, with the sun still below the horizon, my acute vampiric hearing picked up the distant cry of a woman within the compound. Something was amiss, I realized instinctively. I hurried back to investigate, only to discover a scene that unsettled even someone of my experienced and hardened disposition.
