The few children ran to look for their fathers to brag about the candies they've got.
Lu Jianguo and Lu Aiguo are currently busy taking out foods from the cellar.
"Shen Zhiqing, milk candies are quite precious, don't just give it away. You have to keep it for yourself."
Although Li Guilan was happy that Shen Yuying seems generous, she still feels distressed about the milk candy. Each of her grandchildren got one.

She had good feelings towards the village Captain's family.

She turned to look at the other educated youths and asked.
"Are you done picking baskets?"
Gu Kai didn't pick much, just a bamboo hat and a back basket while Wang Meiyun and Wang Xiayun picked almost the same as hers.

Gu Kai immediately understood what was she trying to ask and explained.
"We actually have relatives here. They're probably still in the fields right now, so we are waiting for them to see us. Until then, I don't know what I I'll need so I'll just have these for now"
Their family was met with setbacks so their parents decided to send them all here.
Rather than blindly follow the instructions, their parents used their last connections with some powerful people to send all three of them here.
Lushan village was his father's hometown. Although he had not come here to visit, he heard about this place from his father countless times.
Although they were saddened by the sudden news of being separated by their parents, he thought it was atleast good that they could live with his father's relatives.
He and his siblings are doing much better compared with the other educated youth.

"You, do you have a relative here? We didn't hear about it."

"Actually our father is from here, and that's why all three of us was sent here as an Educated youth."
According to Gu Kai his father's family are here. And they have a house in this village. That's why his father thought it would be best to send his children in his hometown, to be taken care by his family.

Listening to our conversation, Aunt Lu suddenly interjected.
"Young man, do you have relatives here? The village is not that big. Not to brag but I know all the people that lives in this village. Do you mind if I ask who are your relatives?"
This young man is quite good at interacting with people, eventhough he's from the city he does not discriminate the people he met, so Li Guilan had a good impression of him.
"Auntie my surname is Gu, and my name is Gu Kai. My father's parents and siblings all live here."
He was also curious if Aunt Lu knew who his father is. So he replied enthusiastically.
Growing up, his father was always a figure he looked up to.
His father was from the countryside and was able to climb up ranks in the military.
After his father was discharge from the army he was sent to the city to work in a factory.
Because he had achieved merits in the military, he was given a good position when he started working in the factory.
Knowing his father's achievements, he was sure many people in the village know him.
He was one of the few who was able to leave the countryside to live a good life in the city.
While waiting for Lu Guilan's response he saw her thinking deeply.
Lu Guilan began to ponder.
"There are some families who are surnamed Gu in here. Gu who went to the city, let's see. Ah! Are you Gu Sanzhu's, son?" She suddenly inquired.
Gu Kai was taken aback. Who is Gu Sanzhu, he didn't know.

Finding out that Li Guilan recognized his father Gu Kai became excited.
"Yes, that's my father's name. Do you know my father Aunt Lu?"
Hearing his answer, Li Guilan's enthusiasm reduced alot.
"I see, so you're his son. Your family house is not far from here, but they should still be in the field right now. So you might as well wait until the work in the field is done."
Li Guilan looked at Gu Kai and said. "Now that I took a good look at you, you seem to resemble your father Gu Yongjun quite a bit."
"My husband the village captain grew up with your Father, they were actually really good friends then. They're also close in age. But its been a long time since your father came back, so I wasn't able to recognize your face right away. Anyway most of the people here knows your father, but not all knows him by the name Gu Yongjun, we only know because of how he was close friend with my husband back then." Li Guilan explained.
"Your father used to be called Gu Sanzhu, but he changed his name when he joined the military back in the days. Old people may still call him Sanzhu now but some of our generation, especially the one who grew up with him knew."
Gu Kai was shocked, he didn't know that his father changed his name. Everyone called him Gu Yongjun, at home. He had no idea.
"Aunt Lu, I've no idea he changed his name, he was always called Gu Yongjun at home. But thanks for telling me." He said politely.
Li Guilan looked at him and smile.
She didn't know anything about Gu Yongjun sending his kids in the countryside to be an educated youth. Whatever, it's none of her business, she thought.
So she just told him "your father's family might look for you later, so just wait for them."
"I understand Auntie, thank you very much."
Gu Kai didn't even notice the change in Li Guilan's expression. He was too excited to learn that people here still recognized his father.
But Shen Yuying did. When Gu Kai mentioned of having a relative here, she was quite enthusiastic. But after she learned the father's name, her face suddenly changed. Although it wasn't too obvious, but Shen Yuying could tell the subtle change.

We were taken to a separate house just beside Carpenter Lu's house.
It seems to be a workroom and showroom in one. There are few furniture around, big and small.
"Look around and see what you like, if you want you can also order from me. It'll take about a month to finish."
Carpenter Lu talked and introduced his works one by one while walking around inside the workroom.
Shen Yuying looked around, she didn't want to wait long for the furnitures. So she plans to buy whatever is available here.
She didn't see a similar furniture they had in the Educated youth. But she found a tall cabinet with 4 doors.
Its slightly taller than her and the sizebis also good. They can put alot of stuff in there, she thought.
Since Gu Yao will live with her relatives, then she won't share with them. She can have 2 doors on top while Wang Yumei and Wang Xiayun can have one each at the bottom.
She nodded her head in approval and thought that its quite good.
She turned to face the Wang cousins and discuss with them what to buy.
"What do you think about this tall cabinet? You two can both have each of the doors at the bottom and I'll have 2 on the top. Of course I will also pay half of it."
Meiyun and Xiayun looked at each other to discuss, they don't have much money with them when they came here. But they can still take out a few yuan to buy the cabinet.
"Then let's buy it, we'll take the 2 at the bottom."
They're both shorter than her, and the cabinet is a little taller than Shen Yuying, its only right for them to choose the bottom.
Shen Yuying nodded at both of them, and turned to find carpenter Lu.
"Carpenter Lu, we really badly need a cabinet to out our things away. So I hope you can sell us that 4 door tall cabinet." Shen Yuying said while pointing at the cabinet.
Carpenter Lu also looked at the cabinet she wanted to buy. It was ordered by a newly married couple in the brigade but they haven't paid for it yet. And didn't even come back for 3 months after ordering the cabinet.
He was quite happy, he can finally get rid of that cabinet. So he quickly quoted the price to Shen Zhiqing.
"This cabinet is quite big and spacious inside, it can fit many things. This cabinet was originally ordered by someone from the village but have not come back to pay for it. So I'm gonna sell it it to you for 12 yuan. What do you think?"
Carpenter Lu looked at the young girl while quoting the price to see if the price is good.
For Shen Yuying 12 yuan is nothing, but she needs to ask the others for opinion, so she turned to look at the 2 young girls that are standing beside her.
"What do you think?"
"I'm ok with it" Wang Meiyun said, she can still afford 3 yuan.
I also think the price is good." Wang Meiyun said. Atleast they don't have to wait long, she thought.
Shen Yuying nodded her head, she was quite happy that they were not difficult to get along with. They're both kind and simple people.
"Then do you need anything else?" Shen Yuying asked them.
"Well, we'll buy 1 wooden basin to wash our clothes and were gonna share it between us." Wang Meiyun said.
"That's good, I'll get one for me too" Shen Yuying agreed.
Then she turned to look at Gu Kai and asked "how about you Comrade Gu Kai, do you need anything?"
He went with them so she should atleast talk to him to see if he needs anything.
Gu Kai shook his head "I don't know what do we need yet, but I'll come back here once we settle down at my grandparents house."
That's right, since he'll be staying with relatives, they might have all the things he needs there. So Shen Yuying just nodded her head at Gu Kai to show that she understood.
"Carpenter Lu, we'll take the cabinet. I'll also need a wooden bucket, wooden basin, wooden scooper, 1 stool and 2 storage chest."
Anyway there's alot of space in the female Educated youth room. Shebcan fit a cabinet, and 2 storage chest for her clothes and quilt and the other is for her stove, pot and pan.
She hasn't decided to cook alone yet, so she'll just store them for now.
"Good, the storage chest this big is 5 yuan, a stool and a scooper is 1 yuan and 2 yuan each for the bucket and basin and 12 yuan for the cabinet. A total of 28 yuan." Carpenter Lu said while rubbing both hos hands.
He was quite happy to have such generous customer. Not everyone in the village is willing to take out that much money at once just to buy furniture.
They'll only spend alot of money during weddings and some important occasions.
Shen Yuying collected 6 yuan from Meiyun and Xiayunand paid 22 yuan herself and gave it all to Carpenter Lu.
Meiyun and Xiayun also settled their own bill for the basin.
After Carpenter Lu counted the money he looked at them more happily and said "okay good I received the exact amount and you can take your things away."
"Carpenter Lu, can you lend us your wooden cart to help us carry these things?"
Shen Yuying saw a wooden cart parked outside and she wonder if she could borrow it from Carpenter Lu for easy transportation.
He immediately nodded his head "Go ahead, and make sure to return it after."
And he didn't forget to add "I will need this to transport my things, so be sure to return it right away". He kindly reminded them.
Just in time for the Lu brothers with a cart with their foods in it.
Seeing as they are done picking up furnitures, the Lu brothers helped them load the things into Carpenter Lu's cart.
"It's quite heavy, let us brothers push this cart" Lu Jianguo suddenly said.
The pathway to the educated youth house is uneven and full of potholes. It wont be easy to maneuver a cart loaded with furnitures and other things.
"Then we'll pull the cart with foods on it" Shen Yuying suggested.
"Are you sure? We can always come back later." Lu Aiguo asked.
This Shen Zhiqing is white and thin, he looked at the 2 other girls and they're even thinner than Shen Zhiqing. He wasn't sure they'll be able to pull this cart.
"Don't worry comrade Lu, I'm also here. I will pull the cart and will let the girls push them from the back" Gu Kai said while patting his chest.
The girls giggle "Comrade Gu Kai, you seem reliable like this." Wang Xiayun said while trying to stop herself from laughing loudly.
Gu Kai face turned red.
"Okay! Okay! Let's stop teasing comrade Gu Kai. Although comrade Gu Kai is young, he seems dependable and strong." Shen Yuying said.
She turned to look at Gu Kai and said "thank you for staying and helping us."
She was happy that Gu Kai stayed to help them. Even if he didn't have to because he really didn't need to buy anything. But he stayed to help and protect the girls.
She was quite happy with him. He was so different than his brother.
Gu Kai smile warmly at her.
Although he could stay home with his siblings, he chose to accompany his new friends.
He like these new friends he found, they'll be staying here for a long time and he wasn't even sure if they can come back to the city. It's better to get along well with other people.
The Lu brothers pulled the cart with furnitures and rest of us followed.
As Gu Kai said, he pulled the cart while the 3 girls pushed from the back.
Gu Kai, Wang Meiyun and Wang Xiayun also placed their food in the cart so their hands will be free and it will be easier to transport.
The travel was long and slow because of the potholes but we arrived at the educated youth house after few minutes.
Lu Jianguo and Lu Aiguo helped them carry things inside the house. Furnitures was placed in the bedroom while the foods was placed in the kitchen.
After carrying everything, Shen Yuying gave her thanks to the 2 brothers. They even volunteered to return Carpenter Lu's wooden cart.
They quickly left, afraid that Shen Yuying would stuff another thing in their hands again.
When the brothers left, Gu Kai decided to go to the males bedroom to rest. Gu Yan was already sleeping when he came in.
In the female bedroom, Gu Yao was also sleeping in the kang bed.
The three girls then proceeded to tidy up their things. Meiyun and Xiayun only brought a few things so they finished rather quickly.
But they found out that they forgotten to bring a lock so they decided to go out and buy.
Shen Yuying brought a bunch of lock with her so she doesn't need to buy one. She can also spare 2 for the girls but she didn't want them to get used to relying on her.
"I brought locks with me, so I don't need to buy. Do you want to borrow locks from me? I have a few extra, I can spare 2 for you but you'll have to return it to me once you purchase one for yourself " Shen Yuying told them.
"No, since we're free today, we might as well go and buy now. We'll be fine, we'll ask the Captain where can we get the lock." Wang Meiyun said while waving her hand.
They seem serious so Shen Yuying let them go "okay, then I'll wait for you here."
The 2 immediately left and Shen Yuying just carry on with arranging her stuff.
