LOVING OR LIKING

Hyunjin packed up his things, hair falling into his eyes as he leaned down to pick up his fanny pack. He pocketed his phone in his loose-fitting jeans and walked up to the counter, greeting the other barista already at work. "I'll be going then, Noona."

"Alright, see you tomorrow," She smiled, her perfectly straight teeth hiding behind her lips. The older girl's grin always reminded him of Jeongin, and his boyfriend Jisung.

The pink-haired wasn't necessarily surprised the two were going out, they were always so lovey-dovey with each other, but he was shocked by how quickly they had grown so close. Only last year, the two stumbled into another—literally—and they managed to bond so well,

And honestly, the boy was jealous of what they had.

He wanted to hold someone just as close, get stared at with love and just, have someone that liked him—loved him, even.

The boy was a hopeless romantic, and he knew it, but he just couldn't help himself.

Hyunjin looked over at the freckled boy he met last week, or well, talked to for a couple of seconds, and couldn't help but long for his touch.

His eyes fell onto his hands, which were softly playing with the fingers of the boy in front of him—Seungmin, if he remembered correctly. Now that he thought about the brunette, wasn't he on a double day with the regulars? Didn't he have a girlfriend?

The tall male looked over at the two boys again, the bright smiles displayed on their faces and the endless small touches. Something about it didn't sit right with him but was it the jealousy he felt in the far back of his stomach, or the fact that something just seemed off?

With a shake of his head, Hyunjin decided to pay no mind to it, in the end, it wasn't his business. He bowed again at his coworker, receiving yet another smile before she disappeared into the back to wash some dishes, and slowly made his way out through the front door.

Even though his steps were quick and it didn't take him long to get outside, it felt like forever. The eyes falling onto the back of his figure didn't go unnoticed by him, and as he stepped outside, turning left, he just couldn't hold himself back—he let his eyes find their way inside, and surely, the blond was watching.

Jeongin stared at one of the many paintings hung on the museum walls, and couldn't help but think to himself. The colours, shapes and just everything about this abstract art, made him think—think about him and Jisung, their story and their love.

It made him think about all the adventures, all the pain and all the happiness they've had experienced, together. Yang let his eyes wander over the canvas, the background was a cold, dark blue, mixed with greens and purples—he immediately thought of the betrayal he felt just a day ago, and how stupid he had been of even thinking the older would ever love someone else.

Right in the middle of the canvas, various bright colours flooded their way and broke away from the darkness trying to consume them, Jeongin continued to stare, his eyes not being able to peel away from the work of art in front of him.

   Something was pulling him in.

A smile broke out on his lips, "What you smiling at?" His lover asked, now letting his eyes look at the painting, rather than the other boy—who was too beautiful to be real. "See that brown spot right there?" The raven responded, asking the older a question in return.

Jisung hummed, "Yeah, I do. What about it?" Jeongin grinned, "It looks like spilled coffee."

With a light shake of his head, the older burst out laughing, earning weird looks from all the strangers in the museum, but right now, he didn't mind. He didn't mind the mean glares and disgusted looks as he took hold of the other's hand, he didn't mind because Jeongin was all that mattered to him.

The softness of his skin on his own, the warmth, his incredibly cute smile and laugh, the way he got so excited over a small brown dot on this random painting—that neither of the two knew the artist from.

He didn't mind, didn't care, because the love of his life was with him.

Needless to say, that day—as well as all the others following—the two had the time of their lives. Yet something, as simple as a thought, kept Jeongin away from smiling forever.

"Hannie Hyung," He reached out to the older as they were leaving, walking down the stone stairs outside—the river visible in the distance. "Yeah?" "Let's take a walk at the river, okay? I have something for you."

Without waiting for an answer, a yes or a no, he dragged the older boy down the set of stairs, running with a grin on his face—a grin that didn't leave, just at the thought of what was to come.

After a couple minutes of running, Jeongin slowed down in his steps, coming to a complete halt. Han crashed into him from behind, not expecting the sudden stop as he was focusing on his legs not giving up.

"Innie~" The boy whined out, "You know I'm not made for sports. Ough, I'm tired!" He let his head fall onto the taller's shoulder, who only laughed before taking the other's hand in his, making him walk yet again. But Han couldn't complain, at least they weren't running anymore.

The sun was already setting, casting a beautiful golden hue on all of the city and the two lovers. The sky was decorated with pink and purple clouds, playing catch up in the sky as the wind pushed them around.

Walking up another few steps, the two stood right next to the sparkling, shining water of the river, reflecting what was above. Jeongin took a moment to collect his thoughts, just staring into nothing, while the older of the two adored the sight.

With smiles on both their lips, they spoke up, "Hyung-" "It's so-" And just as quickly broke out into laughter, "Alright, you go first Hyung." The older smiled again, "It's beautiful," He said softly, looking away from his loved one into the distance again.

   "You're right, it looks amazing."

A small breeze picked up and ruffled the boys' hair, letting them fly into their eyes. Jisung giggled, as he combed through his hair, "What did you want to say, Innie?"

The younger smiled sheepishly, "You know, I never really answered you." A puzzled look adored Han's face, "What are you talking about?"

Smile not leaving his face, Jeongin took hold of both of the older's hands, stepping closer to rest his forehead against the brunette's. "Yesterday, I never gave you an answer," He evaporated, closing his eyes and smiling yet again.

"You don't need to answer," Jisung whispered, not feeling the need to talk loudly if they were this close. "I want to, Hyung. And you know why?" The older hummed, "Because, I love you."

Sweetly and softly, he connected their lips into a quick kiss, letting his lips linger for just a mere few seconds before pulling away. "I love you too, I love you so much."

Perhaps finally being able to say the words, let something loose in Jeongin because, that whole evening, the rest of the day and the following morning, he couldn't stop speaking out his love for the older.

"I- ...I just really like you, as more than a friend that is. I'm sorry."

Seungmin looked around the café, shortly ignoring the other's statement, "Where are the cameras? Lix, there is no way in hell you like- or liked me. Dude, nu-uh." He continued turning his head, like a lost puppy, feeling as if this was all a sick joke, a prank.

The blond sighed, "I want to be with you forever, Min. I really do, this isn't like- a prank, or anything, this is me being truthful," He inhaled sharply, "I really just needed to get it off my chest... because, well.."

Slowly he reached his hands across the table, softly taking the other's in his to caress them, "I think, I'm starting to like someone else. I just- I just needed to tell you, so I can fully move on. I know this won't ever work between us. No offence, but you just don't seem like a relationship typa guy and you're so busy with work! So really, I know what I'm doing and I knew you'd react like this all along-" "Felix,"

"Stop rambling damn it, you've been going on for minutes." He shut up, lips pressed in a thin line before he broke out into a bright smile. "Sorry sorry," He shook his hand in the air, before placing it back down on the other's, feeling the warmth again.

Seungmin shook his head with a soft grin, not surprised by the older's behaviour. Typical.

He looked across the table, seeing the other boy stare away into the distance, his mouth open and eyes round. Seungmin loved this sight, he looked incredible, just like this—or any other way. The brunette sighed to himself, catching the other's attention.

In a questioning manner, Felix hummed, in a way of asking what was wrong. Seungmin again shook his head but after a few seconds, he decided he should speak up, "Actually, Lix, I think you.. might want to know this."

"What is it, Min?" He asked softly, his voice deep as always yet more sweet and slightly sugarcoated. "So, you remember me telling you about Aki Noona, right?"

Furruring his eyebrows, Felix nodded. "Well, she's- she.. Aki's my girlfriend." His smile dropped and millions of thoughts came rushing through his head, just how stupid had he been, thinking he might have the chance to be his?

To think Seungmin was single? Of course, he wasn't, just look at him! And he had the guts to say he doesn't look like a relationship kinda guy! Way to go, Felix, way to go. Now he definitely doesn't want anything to do with you!

Pushing the thoughts to his side, at least for a few seconds, the blond spoke up shortly, his mind still too cloudy to form a proper sentence, "Ah.. I see."

Just as quickly as his smile had dropped, he picked it back up again, "That's fine, I'm sorry though, I didn't know and just bombarded you with all this! I shouldn't've, I'm sorry Mi- S-Seungmin."

The brunette had wanted nothing more but for the older to be okay, for everything to go back to normal. He preferred it that way, not talking about the things that actually mattered and just pretending everything was okay, yet he knew that wouldn't happen anymore.

He knew he had messed up when even Felix was too scared or nervous to say his nickname—the name he loved hearing roll past the older's lips. If only he could tell him the whole truth, maybe things would've played out differently.

   Maybe they'd still be okay.

"Don't be sorry, ...Lix. I should've told you earlier, you're one of my best friends, you deserve to know. I just.. I- you know.." Fuck!

But he couldn't, he couldn't tell the truth.
